Ragazza Prevale, 4 year old 16+ h chestnut filly: Placed!

This elegant young girl has a beautiful face with such a kind and intelligent eye. Her movement left us saying “Wow” — she showed off a floaty big strided trot with suspension and reach that spoke of huge potential for dressage or eventing.  She posed quietly, with a regal alert presence. Even when horses turned out next to her started whinnying and running during her jog video, she remained well behaved. Her handler says this girl is not showing enough racing ability, so it is time to find her a new career — and we see huge potential here. Imagine how impressive she will be once she fills out!  She is described as sound with no vices, and her handler says she settles well on the farm.   Lightly raced, she is also well bred, by a multiple graded stakes winning son of Unbridled, out of a Not for Love mare; her second dam is a multiple stakes producer from the Private Account/Damascus sire line that has produced so many great jumpers/sport horses. Huge upside potential here for a bargain price — please give her a chance soon, as her trainer is anxious to move her quickly.

Cyber Romance 3 year old 16h bay filly

Where else would a girl go looking for a new equine mate than the internet with a name like Cyber Romance?  If you look through the furry winter coat, and the sweat marks you will see that this daughter of Friendly Island is a well proportioned solid bodied filly with a deep hip and solid chest and shoulder on her.  She was incredibly well behaved while horses carried on around her.  Her intelligent eyes took in everything, but didn’t react.  She jogged with a big even stride, showing impressive suspension and cadence that made us think dressage could be her forte. We were told that she is sound and racing on an old bow that we could not evaluate because she was already wrapped up for the day.  She has an excellent pedigree for jumping. Her sire Friendly Island is producing beautiful movers who are already showing aptitude in the hunter ring. Sire lines known for producing good jumpers such as Damascus, Blushing Groom, Fappiano, In Reality, and Prince John are prominent in her pedigree.  She looks like she would make a nice broodmare for warmblood or QH crosses as well. This diamond in the rough is a serious bargain for her potential.

Big Apple Lady 4 year old 16.2 hand bay filly

Looking for a big bay show hunter with chrome?  Here she is!  Beautifully proportioned, elegant, and a very nice mover, she has that air of class and quality about her that excels in the show ring. This big dappled girl walked quietly on the end of her lead showing off a big stride and then she jogged big and evenly for us across the pavement with a floaty toe pointing trot despite the fact that she had just raced 3 days before.  A well behaved lady, she posed for us in a way that would make you believe that she would be at home on the stage in the Big Apple. Her groom kept raving about what a good girl she is, very nice to handle and work around, sweet and without any vices. Along with an athletic build that would make her an ideal sport horse, she is very well bred and should be seriously considered for her broodmare potential.  She is by the very hot young sire Artie Schiller, who is from the El Prado/Sadler’s Wells line, and her dam is by Deputy Minister out of a multiple stakes winning and producing mare. Her pedigree tilts towards turf racing, and she has run much better on the grass than the dirt track at Finger Lakes, so her owner/trainer wants to find her a new career where she can consistently excel.

Shesa Barbi Doll, 5 year old 16.1 hand bay mare: video added!

This uphill girl with a deep chest and strong sloping shoulder is described by her trainer as a “morning glory” that trains well in the morning, but then wants to gossip with the girls when it comes race time.  While she may not be much of a race horse, she sure is pretty enough to capture hearts in other disciplines. She was very patient and well behaved for her photo session and is described as easy to get along with, with no vices, by her trainer.  He says that she is stiff for a few days after a race, but then is fine with a few days off.  When she jogged for her video she showed off a beautiful light  flat kneed and big strided trot. Her legs are nice and clean. There are some great jumping bloodlines in her pedigree. Her sire is from the Gone West sire line and the Relaunch/In Reality damsire line, and her dam brings in Nijinsky, Secretariat, and Grey Dawn.

M’dearheart 4yr old 16.2 h Dark bay (nearly black) filly

This very elegant black beauty is sound and clean legged, but she is showing signs that she just isn’t into racing this year, and is looking for a new career path.  No white on her to mar her perfectly good looks, she stood well for her photo session despite the fact that the wind had picked up and she was entered to race later in the day.  She is a very elegant mare, but her owner says she is anything but ladylike when it comes to dinnertime!  She says that M’dearheart likes to dunk her grain in her water bucket, but then she slurps everything up when she’s done.

Quite a Feat, 6 year old 16.3 h bay mare

Quite a solid beauty underneath her furry winter coat! Great bone, great shoulder, uphill build, very nice mover, young and sound – there’s a lot of potential for any discipline here.  Last year she was a winning machine, but this year she is not racing as well, and she is letting her trainer know it is time to find her a new career. She was a perfect lady for her photos and seemed to enjoy posing for us to admire. We were told she is very sensible and good to handle, and that she is great on the farm in turnout with other horses. She showed off a light floaty trot that had us thinking this lovely mare could shine in the hunter ring or in eventing and the dressage arena.  She also has excellent breeding for sport, with names on her dam side such as Quiet American, Fappiano, In Reality, Prince John, Noholme.

T C H Warrior, 5 year old true black 15.2 h colt

This beautiful Seattle Slew grandson is indeed a registered pure black!  He is very striking looking, with a balanced build, kind eye, and lovely light movement with a toe pointing reach to his trot. Excellent hunter/jumper or dressage prospect. His trainer says he is very good to handle, and to ride, and she should know since he gallops him. He says he is sound, but his ankles get slightly puffy for a day or two after a race and then he is fine. Since he has not shown much racing ability, and has yet to win, it sounds like a new career is just what he wants. He is not at all studdish, and should transition quickly to life as a gelding. He was very level headed and posed perfectly for his photos and jogged quietly even though horses on the walking machine next to him were bucking and twirling around.  He does have a sunken cheek on the left side of his face, but it hardly mars his beauty or potential; it was an injury incurred as a foal.  This boy is much loved and a very good home is essential.

Cat’s Playmate, 6 year old, 16.1 h dark chestnut mare with chrome:

Update Dec. 2: she disappeared off the track on Dec. 1, without being signed out, and an investigation is underway. A national search is underwy to try to find her, but it is feared that she met an unfortunate fate.

Update November 2013:  We have been informed that this lovely big mare urgently needs a new home.  She is an oustanding broodmare prospect for racing or a sport horse breeding program.

Cat is a big impressive girl, a flashy dark chestnut color with lots of chrome and dapples. She is by Catienus, a son of Storm Cat, who is known as a good broodmare sire, and as siring good sport horses with good minds, as well. She was very quiet and easy to handle during her photo session. You can see from her video she’s a nice mover but very relaxed. Her trainer said this girl is done racing and needs a new career. She said she is sound on an old arthritic left ankle and so her trainer feels she would be a good pleasure or trail horse but not for jumping. She would be very flashy under tack and might make a lovely dressage prospect. Cat would love to have someone to share mints and quiet times under saddle with. We bet you’ll love her too.

Virging on Stardom, 5 year old, 15.3 dark bay gelding

Another handsome solid bodied nice moving young sound guy with great potential for a new sporting career.  His handler had only the best things to say about him, stating that he is easy to work around and is generally pretty quiet. He is described as sound and without vices.  We admired his balanced build and good shoulder — all good signs for jumping potential. He had a nice light cadence to his jog, so we think he will do just fine in the dressage or hunter arena too. He has been a durable race horse with many in the money finishes and over $73,000 in earnings, but he has not won often enough for his trainer to justify continuing to race him, so it is a good time to find him a new career while he is still  young and sound. He is by the sire Ten Most Wanted, from the Deputy Minister line known for producing good jumpers, out of a Forestry mare.

What a feminine girl walked into the sparkling sunlight, all shiny and pretty! Her trainer describes her as a horse with a lot of heart, a true racehorse who knows her job and gives her all every time she’s asked. She has tailed off this year and is looking to be retired from racing while still sound. The trainer states that she is an easy keeper and is very sweet and even tempered. The trainer is a bit lame himself, but her jog showed a toe pointing reach with nice suspension. We think this pretty gal could be a diamond in the rough.

Runningforthemoney 4 year old, 16.2 hand chestnut gelding

This big solid grandson of AP Indy is a beautiful mover!  He is a big guy who looks like he might have some more filling out to do, but once he is let down from racing he is going to make a dressage or eventing star.  Very well behaved for his jog session, he had a large reaching stride with a little action and suspension that will make make an eventer or dressage rider very happy.  He is also fancy enough for the show hunter ring. He was very friendly and interested in what the people around him were doing, but isn’t that interested in running any longer now that he is facing a tougher level of competition.  He is described as sound with no vices. He has an excellent pedigree for jumping, stamina, and durability. His sire Friends lake is by AP Indy out of a mare who is a Buckpasser grandaughter. His dam is a daughter of Key to the Mint, a grandon of Ribot and Princequillo, and her dam is from the Copelan/Tri jet family. Big handsome sound young horses with outstanding sport potential go fast, so don’t hesitate to call on this stunner!

Nutz on the River, 2 year old, 15.3h gelding

This gorgeous solid bodied unraced young guy has a lot of room to grow, and huge athletic potential. We spent a lot of time with this young man and his trainer. He has been training well and putting on the miles, but the trainer feels that he is just too big to hold up to the rigors of racing. This writer has known the trainer for many years and respects the vast experience and knowledge she has and has known her to always do right by her horses.

Nutz (we thought he looked like a Baby Huey) was pretty laid back for his photo shoot and we oohed and aa-hed at his solid good looks. Considering he is a late foal (May) and is already 15.3, we predict this guy is going to get bigger. He has an ulcer on his right eye that impairs his vision to about 40% but it has not been an issue for him while in race training. His trainer is his regular rider and states that he is easy to ride and very smooth. She further states that he is very smart and relaxed by nature. We think this guy has tons of potential and we’ll be eager to follow him in future years. he is currently located on a farm very close to Finger Lakes Race track, where you can even ride him. The trainer will be vetting prospective homes very carefully, to make sure this boy goes to the best situation.

Miss Directed, 4 year old, 16h dark bay filly

How about another shiny dark bay filly to offer for your consideration? Miss Directed is just not cut out for the racetrack. The trainer states that she is sound but not at all happy with the business of racing. A true “morning glory”, racing’s loss is your gain as we saw a beautifully conformed filly with a large, deep shoulder and powerful engine. She sports a pretty, reaching jog and was very quiet and sweet during her interview. She is by a son of the great race sire A. P. Indy, ahd her dam is a granddaughter of Secretariat. Lightning Lu, 3 year old, 16.1-16.2, dark bay filly

This flashy young lady with a beautiful dark coat and blaze already has some height on her and will grow some more. She broke her maiden her first time out but has since flattened out. Her trainer reports that she is sound but “track sour”, which is fixable with turnout and down time and a new career. She is a bit butt high now, which is typical of three year olds, but we think she will be a beautiful package when she achieves full height and fills out. She was positively gleaming in the morning sun and was very quiet, almost statuesque, for her pictures. The bandages are standard operating procedure after training for many barns. She looked sound and quite lovely at the jog. She is by Unbridled Song’s son Eurosilver out of a Louis Quatorze mare.

This handsome devil falls into the warhorse category with over 70 starts and close to $100,000 in earnings. Horses like him are hardy and still have a lot of life and miles in the saddle to give. On the same token, he has been well cared for and appreciated by his connections and has an air of wisdom that comes from years of doing his job, and doing it well. He is described by his trainer as 100% sound and has never set a foot wrong. He’s an easy keeper, easy and quiet to work with, has never even required bandages. He is by the hot New York sire Catienus out of a Mr. Greeley mare. Flashy chrome alert! What a great prospect for eventing, dressage or hunter/jumper — with some groceries and TLC this young guy will be stunning with his big good boned uphill build and beautiful movement.  Even though his trainer can barely jog himself, we could still see that this horse has light movement with suspension and flat kneed reach to his trot. Trainer describes the horse as sound with no vices, just not a good enough race horse. But we sure think he can be more than good enough for another discipline. His pedigree is filled with distance loving turf runners and good jumping lines, which bodes well for eventing, His sire is turf champion Johar, who is by Gone West from turf champion mare Windsharp. Bustin Chops, 3yr old Bay Gelding 15.3 hands: New Price!

This sweet boy is not showing much promise on the track, but his cute bay looks make him perfect for the show ring!  He looks like he has quite a bit of growing and filling out to do, but you can see the potential for a well balanced sturdy boy when he is finished.  The groom says that he gives her two year old son kisses and is a really good boy to deal with on the ground.  He is lightly raced, with only six starts, and two wins. He came back from his last race with a little filling in his left front, but his legs are now clean and he jogged fine for his listing, even demonstrating his jumping potential when he jumped a puddle!  We also watched a race video to see more of his movement, and he has a nice balanced gallop with flat knee action and a big ground covering trot.  Definite hunter/jumper or eventing potential here! This one could be quite the bargain. He needs to find his new home as soon as possible.

Four Reds, 4 year old 17.2 h chestnut gelding

A beautiful gentle giant, much loved by his trainer and groom.  He has raced well in his 14 starts, but with his huge size and big boned frame he did not hold up to the physical demands. He recently strained his front suspensory ligament, which has necessitated his retirement from racing. We were told that he will need eight to nine months off in the care of an experienced person who knows how to rehab suspensory injuries. Ultrasounds are available and that the vet who did them will be willing to consult about rehabilitation.  Big Red loved our attention, and we could tell he knows how gorgeous and impressive he is. He struck as a friendly and intelligent horse. Even with the recent injury he jogged well for his video and showed off good movement with reach and suspension that should be dazzling once he is sound. While jumping will most likely not be in his future, he could excel in dressage or any kind of flat work, including pleasure riding. If you are willing to give this young handsome hunk of horse the time, care and attention he needs, we think you can be richly rewarded.

Update: This beautiful mare had a placement lined up but it fell through due to transporation problems and she is now in urgent neeed of a great home. She has had such a good racing career, giving so much of her heart to people, and she deserves the best of new homes!

This dainty girl is only about 15.2 hh but has a much larger presence. She is very nicely put together and was full of dapples on this dreary day. She impressed us as being very regal and willingly obliged our efforts to get the best pictures and video of her. She has proven herself to be a consistent runner, honest and sound. Racemares like her have a ton of heart and do everything asked of them. She remains sound and running but her connections will not bring her back next year. Two years ago she won the distinction of being awarded Claimer of the Year at the racetrack’s end-of-year awards banquet, which is laudable on a racetrack with MANY claimers running! The Cuff Shooter, 7 year old 16.2h dark bay gelding

We were really taken with this big handsome solid bodied guy!  He ended his racing career a year ago, and was retrained as a pony horse and has learned to go in western tack.  Earlier this summer he got cut up by an unruly  horse during a ponying session, and while he has fully recovered he wants no more part of ponying race horses. He would much rather have a new career where he can be the center of attention for his forever person to enjoy!  He is described as sound, with no vices, and friendly.  When he was brought outside for his photo session on a cold windy morning, it was the first time in several months he had done anything but be handwalked inside the shedrow. He was so happy to be outside, but he stood attentively for his photo session, showing great interest in us and in his surroundings. While his exuberance at finally being out of the shedrow came out when jogged, we could tell that he has lovely suspension, and once he gets some turn out and loving attention, his sensible good nature and desire to please will prevail. He has excellent bloodlines for jumping and sport. His sire is a son of Gone West out of a mare with Majestic Light and Buckpasser close up,  and his dam is from the Deputy Minister sire line. City Genius, 5 year old 15.3+h bay gelding – Retained for racing

We walked by his stall, saw his beautiful kind eyed face begging for attention and his solid build and said “ooh, we like that one!” And we were hardly disappointed when the groom said he was the next one to list — this well conformed horse with great balance and solid bone was even more impressive out of his stall.  Pretty enough to stand out in the hunter ring, he also has the athleticism for eventing. He was perfectly behaved for his photo session on a cold blustery day that had other horses riled up, and he seemed to eat up the attention as he posed and jogged quietly. The groom described him as a nice horse, no vices, sound and durable.  His legs are still clean and tight after 60 races, and he has been successful enough to win 7 and hit the board in half his races, with winnings of almost $150,000. Because he is now limited in the race conditions he is still eligible for, his trainer thinks it is a good time to find him a new career while he is still young and sound. This handsome guy could go in many directions for his new career. He will likely be raced at least one more time before the end of the meet and then he will be ready to go home with you.

This big athletic, clean legged and sound guy has been a good race horse, but he is letting his trainer know he would now prefer a new career.  He is a good mover, friendly, sturdy, and with a noble air about him.  While he may have a roman nose, we think he will indeed look noble and elegant in a dressage or eventing bridle. His groom describes him as easy to handle, no vices, but he has become nervous in the track environment.  She said he settles right down in a farm setting where he can enjoy turnout. He is described as quiet with kids, and sane and sensible enough to be potentially suitable as a pleasure horse. But we see eventing or dressage in his future too!  He is priced to be quite the bargain for a big, young, sound, good moving gelding with a good brain!

Lakota Freud, 5 year old 16 h gray gelding

Gorgeous, sound, lovely mover, and with the sweetest personality — no wonder this horse is his owner/groom’s all time favorite!  Lightly raced and clean legged, he has done well for them this year and just broke his maiden. But that means he will have to step up to a tougher level of competition, so they think now is a good time to find him a new career in a loving home where he can show off new talents. His groom couldn’t say enough great things about Lakota — she described him as perfect, easy to handle, groom and tack up, like a puppy dog who follows her around, so kid friendly that her toddler crawls under his belly. She never has to use a chain shank on him. He was so friendly and curious he kept sticking his nose in our pockets looking for treats, and seemed to try to help write our notes to make sure we did him justice! He showed off beautiful movement for his jog video, with a light toe pointing trot with suspension. He had just raced a couple of days before his photo session, so the poultice remnants on his legs are standard post race care.  This is a very special horse who could excel in any discipline, he is bargain priced for his quality, and only the best of homes will do for him.

Blue Ledges, 3 year old 15.2h chestnut filly

This very pretty girl has a compact uphill build, with a good sloping shoulder, suggesting athleticism and jumping ability. She is lightly raced, with only 7 starts, but after breaking her maiden she has not fared well in the next level of competition, so her trainer wants to find her a new career.  With her smaller size and build, she looks like an excellent polo prospect, but we also think she could go in any direction, from the hunter ring to western barrels or pleasure. Her trainer says she is sound with no vices.  Although we were not able to get a video on the day of her photo session, we watched the video of her winning race to assess her movement, and we observed a very nice mover with a flat kneed gallop and trot. Her young sire, Utopia, has already produced horses who were placed from our listings last year that have started to show excellent promise as show hunters. The pedigree on her dam side is also very good for jumping, with Damascus, Roberto, and Bold Ruler among the prominent names.

Jump Johnny Jive, 3 year old 16.1+h dark bay gelding

This  flashy young guy was bred to be a star, and while he hasn’t been one on the racetrack, we think he might shine as an eventer or in the H/J ring. He is by AP Indy’s son Jump Start, out of a multiple stakes winning mare by Fappiano’s son AP Jet. These are excellent bloodlines for jumping. His trainer says he is sound, good to handle and work around, but just too slow to be a good racehorse.  We admired his beautiful face with its cute star and snip, his kind eye, good shoulder and uphill build, and once he fully matures and fills out he will be quite the impressive looking horse. Since he is only three he will probably grow some more. He was very well behaved for his photos and jog video, and showed very good movement.  This young boy is an excellent sport prospect!

Jaracat, 6 year old dk. bay (almost black) 16.2 h gelding

Jaracat is still available.

This flashy black beauty could be a great prospect for a very experienced rider!  He has been a good race horse, winning 9 of his 39 starts, with many placings, but he is slowing down this year, so it is time to find him a new career where his athleticism will enable him to excel. We see great potential as an eventer here.  He has been getting very anxious in the stress of the track environment,  although his trainer says he is quieter at the farm and he is nice to ride in that calmer environment.    Jaracat is very well bred, a grandson of Storm Cat, and his dam has produced two stakes winners. While he did not inherit his siblings’ racing prowess, that class can surely prevail in a new discipline. His trainer says he is sound but he has some ankle rounding from racing that does not cause any problems.

Homeland Express, 5 year old, 16 h bay gelding

Good things come in plain brown wrappers!  This sweet and quiet guy impressed us with his kind eye, good shoulder and hind end, and balanced build.  With his build and demeanor he should be able to go in many directions, from sport to loving best friend. He trainer said he is good to handle and sound, just not running well anymore.  He was beautifully behaved for his photos and jog.  Other than slight ankle rounding that comes from racing, his legs are clean, and they were cold and tight. He is a nice mover, and all around nice guy.  He has a very interesting pedigree for jumping potential, by a son of Indian Charlie and a Halo mare, by a dam who is a daughter of Dixieland Band. A real bargain and diamond in the rough here.

Suprise Fever, 4 year old, 16h chestnut filly

I was in the barn speaking with the trainer while pretty girl was out having her pics and video taken. As an unraced four year old approaching the end of the meet, the trainer is just not willing to retain her for the winter and try to get her to the races next year as a five year old maiden. When she returned to her stall in the barn we got a chance to give her scritches, which she accepted sweetly, and get a closer look at her. We were impressed with her broad, deep chest, huge sloping shoulder and powerful engine. We also saw a cute face and very kind eye. This gal is a blank slate who awaits your finishing.

Sidesplitting, 4 year old 15.1 h dark bay gelding

Wonderful things can come in smaller packages, and we all fell in love with Sidesplitting while taking his glamor shots. He is a trainer favorite, described as “so cool” and a friendly and sweet “peppermint junkie.” He was indeed loveable as we fussed over him and gave him mints. His trainer says kids can pet him and feed him, and he thinks with proper retraining he could be a kids horse. He is a very nice mover, with bloodlines known for jumping, soundness and durability, so perhaps he will be a star in the children’s hunter ring or pony club. The trainer says he is sound and has no vices; he just isn’t competitive any longer in racing, so he wants to find him a great new home; indeed insuring an excellent home is very important to him.

Stout Hope, 6 year old 16.3 h dark bay gelding

This solid big guy jogged right out on the pavement in a gorgeous ground eating trot despite having raced only four days prior.  Adding to the fancy movement, he is workman like and easy to handle on the ground, and has plenty of tail to spare!  He has a great solid build with a deep chest and huge shoulder. He does have old set osselets that have not caused him any problems.  A big kind eye rounds this guy out as a great partner for someone looking for a kind horse that is easy to handle.  His only vice is he cribs lightly, but it is totally controlled with a collar.  With over a $104,000 in earnings this guy has proven his durability! He also comes from good sport horse bloodlines, as he is a grandson of Grand Slam from the Gone West sire line, and under his dam there are Majestic Light, Halo, and Secretariat.

My Shaolin, 5 year old 16h chestnut gelding: retained for racing

This beautiful young guy is solidly built, and while he has shown absolutely no aptitude for racing we think he has excellent jumping potential, and then when we saw him trot we could easily see him excelling in dressage as well. His video shows a lovely collected trot, with neck arched, that says dressage horse here, and no matter how many times the groom trotted him by us he just tracked right up and moved forward in that lovely cadence. He is by Orville n Wilburs who is a son of Cox’s Ridge, so great jumping lines there too. SInce he is only four this guy is still likely to grow. Can you even imagine what he will be like all filled out and when he levels off his topline? If you’re looking for a great prospect to bring along that looks like a warmblood this is your guy. His trainer says he is sound with no vices.

FLF Mystician, 5 year old, chestnut 16h gelding

Update: December 8 2013:  FLF has taken in the oh so sweet Mystician because we love him and want to work to make sure he gets the perfect home.  He is being fotered by an FLF volunteer, who is falling in love… and just may not be able to part with him!

This sweet guy was brought out for us to see by the trainer’s young son. He was very sweet and friendly for his pictures. His son said he is very quiet and his rider said he is good to ride. He had just raced 2 days ago and was still a bit stiff, so we did not get a video. The trainer said he is fine a few more days after a race. We were so impressed by his gentle sweet nature we think he would make a great mount for a mature rider or child’s horse with some additional training. His trainer says he would be a wonderful kid’s horse. The rainy day was so drab his pictures just don’t  him justice. This nice boy is really looking for someone to love him and let him finish growing and mature into the wonderful horse he can become. He may need to move soon.

Dancing Winner, 4 year old, 15.2 h chestnut filly: video added!

A flashy well bred beauty with lots of athletic potential. Compact and well put together, she is described as sound but not racing well enough in tougher conditions to keep her in race training. Young and forward, she will be suitable for an experienced rider, and we can see her eventing, foxhunting, or in other sport disciplines. Her jog video shows her to be a very nice mover. And we watched some race videos to further assess her movement. We observed a lovely balanced fluid gallop and a big strided flat kneed trot with nice reach — movement that would definitely cut it in the hunter ring. This filly is also well bred enough to have quality broodmare potential. She is by Forestry, out of a stakes winning mare, and her second dam is also a stakes winner and multiple stakes producer with stakes producing daughters, and her third dam was a Grade I winning champion in South America.

Lovin the Blues, 6 year old, 16.3 dark bay/br gelding – Video Added!

A son of Dance with Ravens, known to produce great jumpers with great brains. Outstanding sport potential here! The connections of Lovin The Blues report that the jockeys who gallop him in the morning have him at the top of their roster as a great mover and generally easy to get along with guy. He has been running well all year and his trainer states he is sound, but, like so many on the listings, the racing competition forces an early retirement from racing. We loved his thick, long tail and his groom said that she loves to brush it out! We think he can fill just about any niche of your desire.

This cute girl looks like she is auditioning to be the velveteen rabbit!  She is nicely balanced and jogged in a nice even balance with a ground covering stride despite missing a front shoe.  Richbelle looks like she has some filling out to do, and will grow up to be a stunner.  She has kind eyes, and was very well behaved for her listing.  The trainer states that she is good to handle and crossties.  Richbelle looks like she might make a fabulous local hunter or 4-H project. Cox’s Ridge and Wild Again on her dam side are certainly excellent bloodlines for jumping. She has no vices and is sound according to the trainer.

Your Tune Anytime, 3 year old 15h Grey Filly

Your Tune Anytime looks like her tune might be a nursery rhyme- she wants to be a kid’s best friend!  Cuddly and cute, the volunteers couldn’t help giving her a squeeze around her barrel when they stood next to her to measure her height.  Snowball as she is known around the barn, is a nice mover, and with her well built hindquarters might be able to sneak her way into a QH show with no one noticing.  She has no vices, and travels sound on soft feet that could use sometime to harden up away from the track.  This adorable girl has only 7 starts, and has yet to hit the board.

Crafty N P 8yr old 16.3 hand Chestnut Mare

You know you are looking at perfection when the trainer talks about a horse saying things like “she’s just something special.”   Crafty N P is a queen and she knows it, the way she surveys her surroundings with a calm knowing look.  We think this lovely mare is one of the highest quality horses we have listed! She is A Circuit quality, in our opinion. Her trainer who couldn’t say enough great things about her, says she is a push button ride in the morning, and is a big powerful mare.  She was incredibly well behaved for her listing, and we were impressed with her beautiful movement, even muscling, and strong topline, already looking like a horse who is in the show ring.  She has unique white spots on one side, and chestnut spots on her white sock behind — these markings will certainly bring her attention!  She is reported sound, with no vices, with nice strong big feet. Her legs are very clean, and she is relatively lightly raced for her age, so she has not been over used. Excellent jumping lines on her dam side, with Alydar and Hail to Reason close up. A truly special girl!

She’s just not interested in being a racehorse so they would like to find a good home for this pretty girl. She’s a pretty bright chestnut with lots of gorgeous dapples. Tell Me First 8 yo 15.3 h chestnut gelding

AKA Frenchie, this beautiful horse is a barn favorite. This guy started his racing career in France and then returned to the US. He raced well, made well over $100,000 and is retiring sound. For his jog video, he showed off gorgeous movement, with lightness and suspension. Another mint hound, this sweet guy just loves lots of attention and lots of turn out. His handler says he frequently gets ridden around the barn and at the farm and loves it. He had surgery for colic in 2012 and had a year off with a full recovery. He returned to racing and and has had no further problems, but he just didn’t show his previous racing ability. We noticed that he has a nice topline and lovely suspension. What a beauty – wouldn’t you love to have this face greet you every day in your barn? With her uphill build, deep chest, sloping shoulder, strong hind end, and balanced build, this mare looks like she could excel in any discipline.  And she’s a lovely mover to boot! Kyla is described as a good girl, easy to handle, no vices, and sound.  She has run often this year, but without the success she enjoyed in the past, so it is time to find her a new career where she can excel.  She has the quality of looks and movement to be a show hunter, or the athleticism and build for eventing or dressage.  Her pedigree is excellent for jumping potential, as she comes from the Wild Again/Icecapade sire line, and her dam is by Dixieland Band.  There is no Storm Cat or Mr. Prospector blood in her pedigree. Nearly There, 7 year old 16.3 h bay gelding: retained for racing

Stunning big flashy blood bay, and a gorgeous mover. His trot is light and lofty with a lovely cadence and reach. We see serious potential for dressage, eventing or show hunters here.  Although he is currently running well – indeed he won the day before we took his photos – Nearly There’s owner knows it is time to move him on to a new career while he is still sound. Note that one hind leg was wrapped simply because he had a small scrape from the race the day before, but it did not affect his soundness at all. Nearly There is relatively lightly raced for a horse of his age, so there is not a lot of wear and tear on him. He is described as sound and good to handle with no vices. He was very well behaved for his photo session despite a cold and blustery day that set many other horses on edge, and our jaws just dropped when he trotted off for his jog video.  We were all looking at each other saying “Wow, what a mover!” Excellent jumping potential in his sire’s pedigree, with Halo, Stop the Music and Hail to Reason close up.

Silverado, 9 year old paint 15.2 h gelding

Silverado has been used this year as a race horse pony horse at the track (i.e. a horse who accompanies race horses to the track for morning exercise or racing, to keep them calm) but he did not like the commotion of people jumping around in his face and shouting, so he has recently spent more time in the pasture than working. His owner wants to make some room and knows he is happiest when he has a job. She has told us she got him from a boy scout camp program, so he is obviously kid friendly. But he is also a big powerful flashy mover with an amazing trot and we even think he could be a dressage horse! He’s a nice, solid guy, and will take a bigger rider than his size might lead you to think,  and he is also described as great on trails. This eye catching fellow also has some miles in the ring at w/t/c and doubles as the trainer’s lead line horse for a small child. Because he has not done much work for a while, he will need some retraining by an experienced person but then he should be kid or pleasure trail riding ready.

Adorable – we all fell for the sweet and cute Mr. Reese.  His owner and groom attested to what a nice boy he is, but he is just not cut out to be a race horse. Well put together, clean legged, sound, and a nice mover, surely he will excel in many other disciplines.  He was very friendly and quiet for his photo session and jog video, and was eagerly looking around for treats.  He is described as sound with no vices. This is a horse you can fall in love with and take in any direction. He is likely to grow a bit more before he fully matures, and he is solid bodied enough to take up the leg of a taller rider.

Majestic One 5 year old 17 h. chestnut gelding

:Maj, aka “Big Red”, is an impressive fellow. He is easily 17 hh, and very big boned.  We refer to him as the Gentle Giant.
Update 10/28/13 – Available once again after his connections are finally convinced that this big boy is not suited to racing. Horses of this size don’t come around often. By Raffie’s Majesty, Maj has been his owner’s pet project since he was a yearling. Maj is nicely proportioned, easy to work around and, in his owner’s words, “wants to be a good boy and do everything asked of him”. Lest you think he is too big to get out of his own way, Maj is a truly beautiful mover. He is agile, athletic and surprisingly light on his feet. This writer’s daughter had started retraining him on a local farm and attests that he is wonderful to ride and a quick learner. The possibilities with this guy are endless.

Gee’s Money Boy, 8 year old 16.2h dark bay gelding

This handsome solid bodied guy is a much loved homebred, raised by and always in the care of his trainer. He has a dignified elegant demeanor, and is described as quiet and excellent to handle.  He has been ridden on trails and in a western saddle all around the farm, and should make an excellent pleasure and trail horse.  He has an old knee injury, where a chip became calcified, but he has been racing on it regularly — and raced the day before his photo session. Because of this, his owner/trainer recommends that flat work, pleasure and trail riding rather than jumping would be best for his favorite boy. A very good home is essential!

A beautiful daughter of the great Holy Bull, who is known for producing horses who are good movers and jumpers with great temperaments. She has solid bodied well balanced conformation and a quiet friendly personality. She was described as a polite quiet ride with no vices. The trainer says she has old osselets in one ankle, but it has been x-rayed and there are no chips or other issues. She had just raced two days before her photo session, and was still feeling some effects of the race, but despite that in her jog she showed the potential for very nide flat kneed trot movement.  This lovely gray girl could go in many directions, from broodmare to show hunter, or your all around pleasure horse.
