Salute America, 2011 16.1+h dark bay horse

Calling all patriots — Salute America needs a great person to step up for him and give him the time to become the stunning show or pleasure horse that we know he can be!  This gorgeous, solid bodied horse has such a kind, friendly expression to his face, and he loved the mints and attention that we gave him. He has won 2 out of 22 starts, and came out of his last race on Nov. 17 a bit banged up, with a sore shin and a cut on his left hind heel bulb. The shin quickly came around (and it was cold and tight on the day we took his photos), and we were told that earlier in the week Salute was soundly trotting in the shed row. Then they pulled his shoes a couple of days ago, and from walking outside barefoot on chunky pavement he had developed an abscess on the day we photographed him.  The cut and the abscess are easily fixable temporary issues, as is his current stallion status.  Geld him, give him some time, and he should be fine to go in any direction.  We were told that he is a kind and very well behaved horse, and is not studdish. Despite being ouchy from the abscess, he was very friendly with us, and was very well behaved for his handler.  We could not get a video due to the abscess, but we watched the videos of his winning races to assess his movement. We observed a big strided fluid gallop and a very nice ground covering big trot.  He is a son of Strong Hope, who is by Grand Slam, from the Gone West line, out of a mare by Deputy Minister with Halo/Hail to Reason and Buckpasser in her pedigree. Salute’s dam is by Harlan’s Holiday; we have placed several of his offspring, and they are beautiful movers and scopey jumpers.  In the right hands, an experienced person who knows how to rehab a horse, we think this guy might well turn out to be one of the great bargains of the season.   A very good home is essential, and references will be checked.
