The big, impressive Shamadaan is a very well bred horse who is described by several people we spoke to about him as a real gentleman, and a “really cool” horse with a winning personality. He was bred by Shadwell stud, owned by Sheik Hamdan, and he is sired by Shadwell’s international superstar Invasor, one of the greatest racehorses of all time. Shamadaan’s dam is by Elusive Quality out of Grade I winner Jersey Girl, and she is a half sister to Grade I winner and young sire Jersey Town. This is the direct female family of leading sire Valid Expectations, and Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure, and many other stakes winners. In light of his pedigree and impressive physique, Shamadaan’s owner would love to place him with someone who would like to use him for breeding, either for racing or sport horses or both; indeed, the owner would be willing to make special arrangements and provide some support to a breeding home, and also would like to be able to send three of his own mares to Shamadaan each year.
Shamadaan has old set but large osselets in one ankle; the trainer reports that the ankle was injured before Shamadaan began his racing career. He reports that even though the ankle has limited flexion, Shamadaan is sound on it and can gallop, has recently breezed in a timed workout, and indeed has raced with the ankle in this condition. He has finished in the money in 12 of his 16 races. While the ankle would likely rule out high level sporting careers, Shamadaan seems fine for lighter riding enjoyment. He did trot fine for his video.
Shamadaan is reported to be good to handle, friendly, good to turn out. But because he is big, and a stallion, he is not recommended for an inexperienced rider or neophyte horse owner. The owner and trainer really love this horse — they say he really grows on you, and whoever gets him will surely fall in love with him too. They very much want him to find a really good home where he can enjoy the good retirement he deserves.
