What a clever name for a daughter of Upstart out of a Not for Love mare! Her name reminds us of what so many of us OTTB lovers say when we are contemplating adding another lovely horse to our collection and hoping our spouse will not object. But how could they object to such a pretty and sweet filly! Start the Divorce is unraced but has published workouts so she is fully eligible for the 2025 RRP. She is not showing enough racing talent in her workouts to warrant persisting to try to make her into a racehorse. She is a big still growing young filly with an uphill build, and a great sport horse pedigree. Her handler stressed that she is very sweet and easy to handle and a pleasure to work around with no vices– but slow. We enjoyed snuggling with her on the multiple occasions we have seen her at the track – she is indeed very friendly and people oriented. Her trainer reports that she has always been very sound (and we observed clean legs), but that she had recently been dealing with an abscess from a tight nail when she got her last set of new shoes. He said that most of it had now drained, and we saw that she was jogging nicely for her video – quiet and polite on a loose lead and relaxed and responsive even though she had not done much for a few weeks due to the abscess. Start the Divorce has an upright front pastern, which suggests that lower level endeavors will be more suitable. But with her kindness and laid-back temperament, she could be a great project for local shows, trails, and pleasure riding. And she is offered at a bargain price!
