This flashy young guy is only two, and will need time to finish growing and mature, but wow do we see huge potential with this well built, floaty moving, fancy horse! Tommy has had five starts, and it is evident that he is just not interested in being a race horse. His trainer says that he is very sound, but is slow and just doesn’t try. We think that’s because he would rather show off his lofty movement in the dressage or hunter ring, or enjoy eventing! His trainer says he is a good horse to work with but he can have his high strung immature moments. We visited with Tommy standing just outside of his stall while we were waiting for the trainer, and Tommy was very friendly and enjoyed our attention and pats. The contact person has also galloped him, and she reports that he used to grab the bit, but then they discovered he had bad hooks in his mouth, they had his teeth done, and since then he has been much better and cooperative to ride. Tommy has an uphill build already at his young age, as well as a strong shoulder, and when he finishes growing and fills out we think he will be quite the stunning big horse. When his trainer trotted him for his video, he showed light, springy and floaty movement that impressed all of us. He is by Heavy Breathing, who is a full brother to Frost Giant, by Giant’s Causeway — who is well know for siring horses that can jump. His dam is by Red Bullet, who is by Unbridled out of a Caro mare – more great sporting lines. One of our volunteers happens to own Red Bullet’s half brother out of that same Caro mare, and he is a beautiful jumper, super tight with his knees, with a big stride and a wonderful brain. Because he is so young and such a powerful mover, Tommy is going to need an experience rider with professional guidance from someone who understands very young horses. But we think the right person’s patience will be well rewarded, and that in the right hands Tommy is going to dazzle in a sporting discipline.
