Our volunteers fell over our heads in love with this beautiful sweet dappled beauty. She is so kind, quiet, friendly, and eager to please that her trainer thinks she could be a great horse for a kid or a first time OTTB owner.  Even on a cloudy day with her winter coat coming in, we could see her dapples shining through –a sign of a happy and healthy and well cared for horse! Over My Head has paid her dues on the race track, with most of her starts on the tough New York circuit at Belmont and Aqueduct. While she has managed only 2 wins, she has garnered 7 seconds and 12 thirds with over $126,000 in earnings in her race career — a record that shows she is a hard trying horse with a big heart.  Her trainer says she is sound, friendly, good to ride and to handle, but she just isn’t into the racing game any more.   When we met Over My Head for her photo session, she had done  nothing for the past two days, at a time when the temperature dropped from over 80 degrees to the high ’40’s and most horses at the track, even those that had worked that morning,  were quite frisky from the weather change. But despite her days off, Over My Head posed like a model, and jogged on a loose lead, quiet and perfectly behaved. As we remarked how astonishing it was that she was this well behaved, her trainer laughed that this was her at her “wildest” — in other words, she is always a quiet perfect sweetheart!   She is by Greeley’s Galaxy, who is from the Gone West, Danzig, and Deputy Minister sire lines; her dam is by Expllit out of a Colonial Affair mare. This beautiful mare can go in any direction for a new career, from pleasure horse to pony club, to hunters, jumpers, trails, hunter paces… with her sensible brain and soundness and durability, we think she will do anything you want her to do in her new post racing life.   Come see her and you too will be over your head in love!
