Bluff Road, 2009 16.2 h dark bay gelding

Our volunteers were smitten by this big wise soul with a big lofty trot.  We admired his leggy uphill build, great shoulder, and alert intelligent expression.  We first listed Bluff two years ago, when he was with another trainer, and we like him just as much now as we did then. He is still so handsome, sound, a wise gentleman, and such a big lofty mover… we can see him excelling in eventing or dressage! But we also think he would love hunter paces or fox hunting. His trainer raved about what a wonderful personality Bluff has, and she says he is sound, and always a sensible well behaved gentleman. She kept stressing what good manners he has, and how intelligent he is.  He is one of those durable, worth their weight in gold, grand war horses. He has had 80 starts, with 7 wins, 8 seconds, and 10 thirds.  The fact that he is still clean legged and sound, and happy and kind, speaks volumes about him, and shows that he still has a lot of life and spring in him for a new career.  We think that anyone who would let Bluff’s age deter them would be foolish not to seriously consider such a big, handsome, great brained, great moving horse. He is by Hook and Ladder, by Dixieland Band out of a Cox’s Ridge mare; we know of  Hook and Ladder offspring who are successfully competing in eventing and dressage and Hunter/jumpers.  His dam, a sister or half sister to several graded stakes winners, is by Gulch, who is known for producing sturdy, nice moving, good brained horses with good feet. One of our volunteers has two horses by Gulch, and another who is a Gulch grandson, and they are all athletic great jumpers and very good movers. Bluff is from a top Paul Mellon/Rokeby Stables female family, tracing to Ribot and Amerigo, and the quality in his genes certainly shows in this grand horse.
