We were wowed by this handsome beefcake of a horse- one of our volunteers even described him as a “stupidly beautiful creature”. He’s gorgeous… and he knows it too. He is a solidly built, muscular horse, with depth through his heart girth, width through the chest, and with powerful hindquarters. He’s well balanced and appears to be a big, strong, and athletic.

We were told that he is generally a good egg to work around and is “tremendous” to ride. We were not informed of any vices or issues. His trainer said that he is simultaneously his favorite in the barn but is also frustrating in that he has so much potential- running like a superstar in training or for the start of a race, but failing to translate that to chalk up a recent win. But he has had a respectable career as a racehorse earning $128K in his 28 starts.

In the photos and video, you may notice a mish-mosh of shoes (or no shoes) on his feet…he is missing the LF and has a glue-on one on his right. His trainer is also his farrier and unfortunately was on crutches and therefore unable to do the traditional nail on shoes during Ira’s last reset. But this did not affect his jog video at all! Ira moved off displaying much spring, loft, and suspension. We were told that being barefoot hasn’t bothered him either. We observed a balanced, athletic, and clever horse who was affectionate with his trainer and also quietly grazed after his jog video.

This big, confident, and personable horse has some sport lineage chops too. He is by Laoban (a son of Uncle Mo) and out of a Graeme Hall mare. Blushing Groom and Gone West also appear in his pedigree.
