SHEER FINANCE, 2022, 15.3h+, bay gelding

If sweet, cute, and bay are your check boxes, then look no further than Sheer Finance! This young gentleman is a very sweet and in your pocket type of guy. He is reported to be easy to work around in the barn with no known vices. He is very good in turnout and even easier around the farm than at the track. He is reported to be sound with no previous injuries, just far too slow to be a racehorse. He is unraced, but does have one published work, making him eligible for the RRP Thoroughbred Makeover!

Sheer Finance is reported to be good to ride, very levelheaded, with no funny business. He proved this as cars went by while we were doing his photo shoot. While all the horses in the barn were amped up because of lunch time and an incoming storm, this guy stood perfectly to be photographed. While he needed some help posing, he didn’t mind his handler picking his legs up to put them exactly where the humans wanted them.

While Sheer Finance was a bit tender on a missing front shoe, he still demonstrated his level head and good manners, standing perfectly while his handler responded to an urgent message. Our volunteers could see the potential with a flat kneed trot and some natural suspension. Sheer Finance is by favorite NY stallion, Central Banker, known for offspring with very good brains, trainability, and movement, and is out of a mare by the coveted Frost Giant, known for throwing athleticism and movement. This blank slate of a typical bay gelding will fit in perfectly with just about any job!

MUDVILLE NINE, 2020, 17h , bay gelding

Tall, dark, and handsome? Check, check, check. Mudville Nine will check all those boxes and more. This very sweet guy is reported to be very easy to work around and a pleasure to have in the barn. The only not so perfect barn mannerism is that he gives nasty faces when he has his grain. His connections believe that this may be because he was so low in the pecking order while being turned out over the winter.

Mudville Nine is just as straight forward to ride as he is on the ground. Never offers a buck, rear, or bolt. He is just a sweet boy that likes to get down to business. He did come back from his last race a bit sore in his knee. Rads were taken and there are chips and arthritis started in the upper joint. These are available to serious parties. Because of this, Mudville is best suited to low level pursuits.

Despite the jewelry in Mudville’s knee and being currently barefoot behind, he demonstrated a natural suspension at the jog and natural over track at the walk. Mudville Nine is by Hard Spun, who is sought after for athletic ability and is out of an Elusive Quality Mare, sought after for trainability and their good brains. Here’s your chance

ROBIN’S GIANT, 2019, 16.0+h, bay, g

This “big ham” loves people and his trainer invited us to step into his stall and love on him because “you can do whatever you want” and he’ll just eat it up. We found this boy to be super cute and a very friendly snuggler. He definitely was more interested in engaging and interacting with all the people instead of posing for his photos! We were informed that he’s great in his stall, without any vices. His trainer tells us that he is very sound and a happy, well-adjusted horse. His only fault is his lackluster race record- in 13 starts, he has yet to be on the boards (but we think he’d much rather be a pampered show pony!) We liked his thick, sturdy, compact build and solid bone. He displayed cute movement and seemed happy to show off a little bit for our small group. His trainer told us that he has even thrown a western saddle on him, hopped aboard, and taken an impromptu trail ride around the backside! He thought that with a little time and training that this friendly, personable boy could even morph into the “biggest kid’s horse in the world”. Robin’s Giant has a nice pedigree for sport horses too- he’s by Giant Surprise, a Giant’s Causeway son with AP Indy and Twist Afleet also on his sire’s side and out a Colonel John mare with Tiznow, Storm Cat and Hoist the Flag appearing on his dam side. If you are looking for an ammy-friendly, happy-go-lucky, fun, curious, friendly, and versatile boy who is a game and willing partner for whatever you might want to try, this might be your perfect boy!

LEADERSHIP ABILITY, 2020, 16.1+ h., bay filly.

Like a good leader, Leadership Ability exudes a quiet, patient confidence. And why shouldn’t she? This dark, gorgeous filly by Laoban has previously sold at auction for $175K. So she should know she’s good! And she is perfectly lovely, cute, athletic, and refined. We loved her kind eye and pretty, very feminine face. She has a great build with a nice long shoulder and correct proportions. She looks solid and powerful. We were told that she is sound without any vices. We observed a classy, super sweet, and sensible girl during our photo shoot. Even though it was chilly and windy, she calmly stood as we admired her and got her history. She jogged politely and displayed a pretty, springy, lofty, toe-pointing trot giving the feel of a light, airy uphill front end. We liked her balance. This pretty girl is a clean slate without any limitations and we could see her having the ability to excel in a variety of disciplines. She is a nicely bred girl- by Laoban, out of a Best Reward mare. Leadership Ability broke her maiden at Saratoga and has had a respectable race record with three wins to her credit. She has an entry at Finger Lakes on 11/27 if you’d like to watch her run before you take her home!

HYPER SPEED, 16+h 2020 dark bay gelding

This gorgeous dappled hunk has to be seen to be fully appreciated — he is even more stunning in person than in his photos! His trainer couldn’t say enough great things about him. He’s so great about everything, she said: an all-around very good boy who is great to ride, great to load and trailer, great to handle, no vices, a pleasure to have in the barn. Hyper Speed started his racing career at the top tracks such as Belmont, Oaklawn, and Keeneland. He’s had a couple of wins at Finger Lakes, and three in the money finishes this year. His trainer says she wants to find him a great new home and career while he is still young and in great shape with unlimited potential to do anything. In addition to his gorgeous looks and his good boy temperament, Hyper Speed is also a beautiful mover. His trot that he displayed in his jog video is light and flowing. He should be a great prospect for any ring — the hunter ring, the dressage arena eventing. HIs trainer reports that he’s sound, but noted some slight old ankle rounding that hasn’t interfered with his racing efforts at all. Hyper Speed is sired by Tapwrit, a son of Tapit — but he hasn’t inherited any of the tough Tapit spice. Tapwrit’s dam comes from the Valid Appeal/In Reality sire line. Hyper Speed’s dam is by War Front, a son of Danzig. She also has Fappiano and Hoist the Flag — stout sport horse lines — in her pedigree. Don’t pass this exceptional horse by!

PRINCESS SONYA, 2018, 16.2 h., ch. m.

Her trainer reports that this ladylike mare is “a great filly” and we thoroughly agree with this assessment. Her handlers were not aware of any vices or injuries; she’s described as just a nice, well-handled, and polite mare in every way. Her pony rider tells us that she is very good in the afternoon and we’re inclined to extend this to her being good all the time! Princess Sonya certainly behaved like royalty for her photo shoot- she was polite, dignified, and agreeable. No stereo-typical chestnut mare attitude here, this regal girl stood and posed patiently even though she was brought out into the damp, chilly, windy day from the comfort of her blanket and nice, warm stall. We loved her pretty and feminine face, long shoulder, and well—balanced build and proportions. She jogged quietly for her handler, displaying cute and relaxed movement, with low, toe-pointing action. This athletic mare was no slouch as a racehorse either, in her 17 starts she has a respectable 3-3-1 record with $70K in earnings. Princess Sonya is nicely bred; selling as a $55K yearling, she is by Effinex, a son of Mineshaft, and out of a Distorted Humor mare with Danzig and Hoist the Flag also on her distaff side. We think this lovely princess, who could be aimed towards hunters or dressage / eventing is also the perfect age to transition into being the queen of your barn and heart. And she’s priced to sell; a bargain for such a big, athletic, young, well-mannered mare.

COMFORTABLE CAT, 2014 15.2+h bay mare

Comfortable Cat has been a good consistent successful racehorse, accumulating 8 wins, 26 top three finishes, and earnings of $173,000 in her career. And her trainer says she is still as sound as they come, and she is lovely light mover! Surely this girl deserves a great new home, where she will give her new person as much as she has given to her racing connections over the years. Those of you who overlook her just because she’s not huge and not a silly youngster will come to regret it. Her trainer kept saying “this is one nice little mare!” as he extolled how good she is to handle, what a big heart she has, how she “does everything right” — loads easily, stands politely for the farrier, is good to ride and does whatever her rider asks. We admired her pretty head, alert kind eye, clean legs, and balanced compact build. For her video she displayed a big swinging walk and a lovely light and even toe flicking trot. As we watched her trot we were hardly surprised that she is a light and efficient mover, because horses who have been this durable and sound over a multi-year racing career are usually very good and efficient movers. She has an exceptional pedigree for jumping aptitude. Her sire Discreet Cat has sired several horses that we have placed over the years, and they all turned out to be exceptional jumpers. Her dam is by Dixie Union, who is by Dixieland Band, and is out of a Seattle Slew mare. With her racing success and her pedigree, Comfortable Cat is also a good candidate for a broodmare career, either for racing or for sport horses. Please open your heart to this beautiful deserving mare!

HORN OF PLENTY, 2018 16.3+h chestnut gedling

This kind wise soul has been a well traveled, successful hard knocking race horse who is so deserving of a great new home. He has 8 wins in his career with over $219,000 in earnings, and has raced all over the country — NY, California, Texas, Pennsylvania. This year his racing performance has tailed off, and he is telling his connections it is time to let him move on to a new career. He came to his current trainer earlier this fall, and she reports that throughout his successful career he has never had any injuries, that he is a good boy who is easy to handle, good for farrier, good to load, — good for everything she says! She gallops her own horses and she also praised Horn of Plenty as very good to ride, easy to gallop, a professional who does just what you want. She says that in his many travels for his racing career he hasn’t had a real break to just enjoy being a horse, and that he would benefit from, and greatly appreciate the opportunity to enjoy turnout and let down time. And then he will show you his big heart and hard trying durability for whatever new direction you want to take him in. He has sold bone, clean legs, a very kind eye, and a kind temperament. For his video he walked and jogged politely, showing a nice swinging walk and an even light trot with a nice hint of spring. Horn of Plenty is sired by Emcee, a son of Unbridled’s Song. Over the past several years we have placed several Emcee offspring who are now doing well in new careers ranging from eventing to dressage to pleasure riding. Horn of Plenty’s dam is by Lemon Drop Kid, a sire who has produced many successful eventing horses, jumpers, and hunters. Wouldn’t you like to be the person who takes Horn of Plenty on the next chapter of success in his new career?

SEATIGER, 2018 16.3-17h bay gelding

If a big, flashy, kind, sound, quiet, a friendly in our pocket type, very good moving gelding with great sport horse potential available at an enticing “end of the racing season” price is what you are looking for then Seatiger is the horse for you! Seatiger was very well behaved for his photo session on a cold blustery day that had many other horses doing twirlies in the wind… But not this sensible guy. He just went out into the cold wind gusts and stood politely to let us take his photos, and then oh so quietly walked and jogged, displaying a very good movement. His trainer reports that Seatiger is very friendly, likes his peppermints, is easy to handle and work around, has no vices, and has always been very sound the entire time he has had him. We certainly got to experience the quiet friendly aspect of Seatiger’s personality, as he just wanted to get into our volunteer’s pocket looking for treats and loved the pets and attention he got. Seatiger has an uphill build and great strong shoulder that suggests jumping ability. While Seatiger has two wins and 8 additional in the money finishes in his 27 races, this year he has yet to find the winner’s circle, so his trainer realizes that his best career is something other than racing. But he has unlimited potential for any new disciple you want to do. Since Seatiger was very laid back for his jog video, we also watched some videos of his winning races, and we observed a lovely fluid gallop back to the winner’s circle — an efficiency of very good movement that should excel in a sport horse career. Seatiger is sired by Central Banker, a son of the great Speightstown who is quickly becoming well known for great brained very friendly athletic horses with excellent aptitude for jumping/eventing/dressage. Everyone we know who had a Central Banker offspring wants more! Seatiger’s dam is by Alydeed, and she is the dam of two other horses we previously listed on FLF who are doing well in new careers, one as a trail and pleasure horses and the other in jumping.

MIAMI TWOFER, 2021 15.3h dark bay filly

This flashy young filly with lots of chrome is described by her trainer as a good girl who is easy to handle, sound, good in her stall, with no vices, but just not proving to be fast enough to continue on with her in racing. She broke her maiden earlier this year, and since that lone win she has found the tougher racing conditions against other winners more challenging. Miami Chrome was very well behaved for her photo session on a cold windy day that had many other horses we saw acting up in the cold wind gusts — but not this lovely girl. For her jog video she displayed higher kneed movement and a strong hind end engagement that should transfer will to dressage and related disciplines. Given her smaller stature, build, and good push from behind we could also see her excelling as a barrel racer or in polo. She is sired by Disco Partner, and was his first winner! Disco Partner was a top turf sprinter who won over a million on the track racing against the best of the best. We think he has transferred his heart and try and athleticism on to his lovely daughter. Disco Partner is from the desirable Dixieland Band sire line. Miami Twofer’s dam is by Archarcharch from the very desirable ammy friendly sport horse sire line of Arch, and with the Saint Ballado/Halo sire lines on her dam side. This pedigree suggests a good work ethic, athleticism, and durability. Miami Twofer can go in any direction you want — she has no limitations for a new career.

LIGHTFOOT JAMES, 2019 16.1h bay gelding

This super sweet and lovely moving gelding is affectionately known as Gordo, and he has been a barn favorite because of his kind and willing personality. Gordo is unraced, because his breeder started him late, and he did not come to the track until last fall. He was working well this summer, showing some talent in his published workouts, but in August he came up with a slight tendon tear. We were told that the vet said he could be ridden as a pony horse without any time off, and could race with some time off. But because he was already 5 and unraced, his connections decided it was best to give Gordo some time and then let him find a new career, where he has no limitations. His track trainer reports that he was never lame on the very slight tendon injury — and you an see that in the videos that were taken at the track after the injury was diagnosed. He is a lovely mover with a big flowing trot with nice reach from the shoulders that could do well in the hunter ring, or in dressage or eventing. Gordo’s track trainer says he is a kind and humble horse who is a sweet people lover. The trainer’s young teenage son handled him easily in the videos, as you can see. They think Gordo could easily become a kid’s horse or work in a lesson program once he has had a retraining foundation. Gordo has been at his owner’s farm enjoying turnout and he is now fully healed and ready to find a job and his own people who will love him as much as his track connections do. Because he has published workouts this summer, Gordo is fully eligible for the 2025 RRP. Gordo is sired by Master James, a son of Bertrando from the Relaunch/In Reality sire line which is well known as a great sport horse sire line. His dam is from Hennessy and Devil HIs Due/Halo sire lines, also known for good brains, durability, and jumping aptitude.

GAMBLING MAN, 2018, 16.3h, bay gelding

If you’re looking for a safe bet on a fantastic prospect, then Gambling Man is the one for you! “Kenny” is known as the joker in the barn and is loaded with personality. His favorite pastime is playing with his water. He is reported to have no vices and to be a pleasure to have in the barn. Kenny certainly showed our volunteers some of his adorable personality, offering smooches to his nose when we were estimating his height.

Kenny is reported to be sound with no previous injuries. While Kenny is still competitive, he prefers the surface at Presque Isle than Finger Lakes and transporting him back and forth is tough for his connections, so they feel it is better to let him go on to a new career. Kenny was a bit playful coming right off the walker but settled immediately. He showed off a natural over track with good swing through at the walk. His connections told us that Kenny has a jog “to die for”, and he certainly didn’t disappoint. Kenny displayed a naturally uphill, lofty jog that is sure to get you great scores in dressage.

Kenny is by the highly desireable Seville, known for producing offspring that excel in Eventing. On the bottom he has Valley Crossing, His Majesty, and Piccolino. Kenny will come with a strong no racing/auction contract. Don’t let this tall, dark, and handsome guy pass you by!

AMERICAN DAY, 2019, 16.2+h, dk bay, g.

This “cool dude” has only been with his current connections for only a few months, but they told us that he has been very enjoyable to be around and that he “is the perfect horse to train” because he “makes it easy”. He’s described as being very mature for his age (only five!) and that he has an “old soul”. We observed a perfect gentleman who was quiet, polite, curious, and sensible. His trainer told us that he is good in his stall without any vices, clean-legged, and sound, without any issues. American Day has an extremely kind, intelligent, and gorgeous face. We felt his legs and found them to be clean, cold and tight. He’s campaigned hard this past year, so his trainer thinks that he will be gorgeous once he gets a chance to have a little downtime to fill out. And we totally agree! American Day is described as being more of a turf horse and “not a dirt guy”. He’s described by his trainer (who gallops his own horses) as being a nicely forward to ride with tons of stamina. Sounds like a potential cross-country machine to us! During his video, we saw a relaxed, swinging walk and he jogged along on a looser lead with reach and push from behind. Although he’s had a respectable race resume, he has yet to score his first win so his connections feel that it is now time to move him along on to his second career. We think, given his endurance, this turf-loving boy could have a bright and happy future as an eventer or perhaps a field hunter. American Day is by New Year’s Day and out of a Dixie Union mare (with Dixie Union on his sire’s side as well).

GINNSU WARRIOR, 2019, 16.1+h, chestnut gelding

If you’re looking for a big, solid, ham of a horse, then look no farther than Ginnsu Warrior! Ginnsu’s connections describe as “perfect in every way”. Ginnsu is reported to have no vices, easy to work around, and just an all-around pleasure in the barn. He stood perfectly, posing happily for his photo shoot, despite being breezy with a recent drop in temps.

While he can be a bit “tough” at the track, he comes back beautifully at the farm and is a low man in turnout. Under saddle Ginnsu can be a bit strong while at the track but offers no funny business. While Ginnsu isn’t super tall, he is definitely wide and will likely take up even the tallest rider’s leg. He showed off a huge natural over track with lovely swing at the walk, and a polite, quiet jog with good push from behind.

Ginnsu Warrior is by First Samurai, who is by the coveted Giant’s Causeway, know for throwing babies with jumping ability and gorgeous movement. His Dam is by Candy Ride with Indian Charlie on the bottom, suggesting this tank of a horse will be very trainable with an amateur friendly personality. If big, thick, and red is on your list, then Ginnsu Warrior is the one for you!

BOLD FORCE, 2021 15.3h dark bay gelding

If you are looking for a young horse with exceptional potential for jumping disciplines, then you should give serious consideration to this handsome guy. Since he is only three, he is likely to grow a bit more. His dam is a sister to the horse who won the show hunter division at the 2023 RRP, and placed very high in the jumpers as well, displaying a beautiful scopey jump. The jumping genes are certainly there for Bold Force! With his pretty elegant head, compact build, strong sloping shoulder, quiet temperament, and very nice movement, we think he could fit right into the show hunter ring, but he also has unlimited potential for any discipline. Bold Force’s handler described him as a good boy, nice to handle, with no vices. His trainer said he is sound and hasn’t had any issues — he just isn’t racing well in tougher competition since he broke his maiden, so it is time to let him find a new career. He has 11 career races, with one win, but no wins this year. Bold Force was very friendly for his photo shoot, nuzzling our volunteer in the hope that her camera might be a treat for him! He jogged politely on a loose lead, with a nice swinging walk and an even balanced trot with good hind end engagement and nice flat kneed reach from the shoulders. He is sired by Hard Spun, who is a son of Danzig. His dam is by Scat Daddy out of a Meadowlake mare who not only produced the RRP winner, but also produced some graded stakes winners. We would love to see him in the RRP next year to find out if he can emulate the success of his close relative! This is a quality young gelding offered at a bargain price!

POLLY, 2022, 15.1h+ chestnut filly

We are happy to report that Polly is now enjoyng turnout and down time on a farm approximately 15 minutes away from the Finger Lakes Race Track. This farm downtime will ideally set her up for transitioning to retraining for a new career. When she was still at the track we visited this very pretty baby with the lovely deep rich copper coat shortly after her morning training gallop. We found her to be super cute and were quite surprised to discover that she was only two years old- she’s very solid and with nicely balanced proportions and a lovely, long neck. She’s not yet fully registered with the Jockey CLub — equineline states that her registration is pending under the name Notapoliticalparty. Polly was a tiny as a yearling so her connections gave her additional time, holding off race training until she had a little time to grow into herself. They feel that she is also currently having a growth spurt and expect her to finish around 15.3-16.0h. She walked out and stood quietly; she even did a “down dog” yoga pose to stretch. When we chuckled at that, we were told that she regularly does yoga-like stretches in her stall in addition to making lots of funny faces. She was described to us a tad opinionated (who doesn’t appreciate a girl who knows exactly what she wants?) but also super bubbly and happy, and a complete ham. Although she’s still very green- a baby racehorse, she’s said to be very good to ride, fun and forward, a quick learner who will already jog on the buckle and round up. Since coming to the track, she has started to crib, her connections suspect that this will diminish if she has ample turnout. When she was at the farm, she was very good during turnout in a mixed herd of mares and geldings. During her jog video, we observed very pretty, fluid movement. This lovely girl is a stablemate of Billieve in Josh. Her owner / trainer is transitioning out of racing and although this filly would probably perform well as a racehorse, she told us that she has declined race home offers for her as she prefers a non-racing home for this special homebred. As an added bonus: she is happy to supply plenty of baby pictures of this lovely filly to her new person. Because this filly is so young and has more limited life- experiences, her connections feel that she may require a more experienced / advanced owner who can bring along very young horses. Polly is by Jack Milton, who is a son of War Front. Her dam is Time for A Party by Desert Party. Desert Party lines are terrific for jumping. She’s a blank slate that you can easily turn out for a bit to finish growing but that already has some very basic training to make it easy for when you are ready to start her again.

BILLIEVE IN JOSH, 2020, 16.2h, dk.bay, g.

We love a good Cinderella story, so we have been following this horse for a while. Billieve in Josh is named after the Buffalo Bill’s Josh Allen and because of this, he’s already generated a bit of local buzz during his career. Especially after he won his maiden race as a 30-1 longshot, surprising most everyone (except his trainer who always believed in him). It’s appropriate that this horse is named after a football player because Josh is certainly a big, handsome, tank of horse- all those things: thick, solid, massive, tall, strong, powerful. And, he has the huge presence and personality to match. We were told that Josh is sound but informed that he has been treated for EPM. He doesn’t have any stable vices (other than being addicted to having a stall full of toys and stuffed animals) and loves to make funny, goofy faces. He’s a great shipper and easy to work around. He is a cool dude on the farm where he is turned out in a mixed herd and gets along great with all the other horses. And Josh is now enjoying the turn out life on a farm near the track… which amkes him all the more attractive for restarting for a new career sincehe is aready getting the let down time that is so helpful to racehorses. Billieve in Josh is by Bal A Bali and out of a Sea the Stars mare and built more like an old-style Thoroughbred. His owner / trainer tells us that his massive size is like “sitting on a grizzly bear” and that he is a super comfy horse to ride. Our pictures don’t truly show how deep and wide he is! His trainer says that he loves to gallop, has a huge stride, and that you can “wind him up and let go, he’ll just keep going and going”. He’s used to being the big cheese in the barn; he pretty much “knows that he’s perfect” and is used to being the center of attention. With his build and demeanor, a smart, super-confident horse like Josh might be quite brave and excel as a foxhunter, eventer, or jumper. During his jog video we observed athletic movement- a nice walk over-step and a springy, animated jog. Because his handler is struggling with her own foot injury, and he was a bit fresh as she brought him out, and she was unable to move as quickly as she normally could, she put a lip chain on Josh for safety reasons on this brisk, chilly day.

Josh’s trainer has made a major life decision to exit racing. Josh has been her first successful race horse at the allowance level- the one that ‘has made it easy as he’s always done everything right’ which helped her realize her some of her dreams and professional goals. But now she feels Josh is telling her that he isn’t enjoying the track life and doesn’t want to race anymore. She doesn’t want to lose control of his destiny after he has been so good to her; and thus knows that it is time to help him to find his forever home. This young, athletic horse loves having a job, so he’s sure to shine in his new sport. We are hoping that one of our own “Bills Mafia” will be his perfect match! We agree with his trainer that he has a bright future off the track. Now, if only we could be as confident about our Bills Superbowl chances this year…

VICTORY BUILT, 2017 16+h bay gelding

Wow what a handsome hunk of horse. Victory Built’s owner/trainer adores him and describes her beautiful boy as a very kind horse, with loads of personality. She claimed him at the end of the 2023 racing season because she had admired his personality and beauty and his excellent racing history. After bringing him back to the races this year, she noticed that his heart didn’t seem in it anymore and he wasn’t going to return to the racing successes of his past that had him winning at the top level NYRA circuit and racking up a 50% top three record in 50 starts with over $250,000 in earnings. His 2024 race makes him fully eligible for the 2025 or 26 RRP. She recently gelded Victory Built, but she told us that he never acted studdish when he was intact. She says that Victory Built is sound, but he does have old “ankle jewelry” (in non-track lingo, old set osselets) that he has raced on for a while and should not limit him for any new career. On the day we photographed him, he had not done much other than shedrow walking for a few weeks since she had decided to take him out of race training, so while he posed quietly and perfectly, he was understandably a bit full of himself for his jog video. Nonetheless, he still showed very nice movement, with a light and lofty trot, good hind end engagement, and reach from the shoulders. Based on his build, movement, and pedigree, we think he has excellent sport horse potential in many disciplines, ranging from dressage to eventing to H/J. He is sired by Big Brown, a sire well known for getting good jumpers and eventers, who is from the Danzig sire line. His dam is by Dixie Union who is by Dixieland Band. Broad Brush, Roberto, Damascus, and Northern Dancer are other top sport horse TB sires in his pedigree.

LAST BEST LAUGH, 2019, 16 h., gr/r. mare

We first observed this homebred mare in her stall where we saw her being sweet and affectionate with her trainer. We’re told that she loves to be fussed over- and one of our volunteers discovered this for herself as she received some Last Best Laugh nuzzles making it very clear how much she enjoyed being scratched on her neck, shoulders, and withers. This girl would certainly enjoy being pampered with spa days and appreciate regular massages! She was a proper lady for her photo shoot- quiet and polite. She is compactly built, and is one “big, solid, strong filly”. She has great width through both her chest and haunches, giving the impression of an extremely powerful girl who might be able to generate quick bursts of speed. We were told that she had a RF splint and has the leftover freeze fire marks, but it is from almost two years ago and is currently cosmetic only. We were told that she can be strong and forward to ride and as such, that she might be best for an experienced OTTB handler. Her trainer told us that he “breeds for endurance” and this mare’s lineage would suggest that she might have the pedigree chops to perform well in either the eventing or show jumping arenas- she’s by Creative Cause, a son of Giant’s Causeway and out of an Elusive Quality mare. But given her build, strength, balance, and confident attitude- we wonder if she might be a consideration for some western disciplines as well- perhaps working ranch? She’d certainly look adorable in western tack! Like her former stablemate Fluorescent Bay (who is also listed by FLF this week), her early race career was delayed when the training center she was first sent to as a 2-year-old did not provide the satisfactory foundation to her racing career that her trainer was looking for. Now, with only two lackluster starts on her racing resume, it looks like she may have missed her chance to be a serious race horse but that’s okay because it means that she is basically a blank canvas for you!

PAL’S ALLY, 2019 16.2h bay mare

This lovely big mare has been a good honest hard trying race horse for her trainer, who has had her for the pst three years, almost her entire racing career. She has won 3 races, with an additional 11 placings, so she is always bringing home a check. The trainer says that the owner just has too many horses and has to let some of them move on to new careers, so Pals Ally is available to be your new pal and ally! He says that she has always been sound with no issues and has never missed a beat in training and racing, and that she is well behaved and good to handle with no vices. Her groom confirmed this. We admired her leggy build and pretty feminine face. On the day we photographed her, she was missing a hind shoe and her front toes were too long and very overdue for farrier treatment, and yet despite this and the unevenenss from the missing hind shoe she moved nicely and showed a flowing flat kneed big strided trot. We think that when her feet are given better farrier are she will be a beautiful mover! She is sired by Normandy Invasion, a son of Tapit who is not only becomeing a popular sire of sport horses for eventing or other jumping disciplines, but was retired from stud to pursue a sport horse career of his own. Her dam is by Cryptoclearance, who is perhaps the very best sport horse sire from the great Fappiano sire line. We think this kind, big hearted, durable nice moving mare with a great sport horse pedigree , has a lot to offer, and the fact that she is offered at a bargain price makes her even more of an enticing sport horse prospect. So mare olvoers out there, please step up for the lovely Pal!

BARBARA’S SPIRIT, 15.2 – 3 h bay filly

This cute filly greatly enjoyed the scritches and attention from our volunteers, and her trainer affirmed that she is a complete sweetheart. She reports that Barbara’s Spirit is an easy keeper who is a very good girl to handle and work with, good for the farrier, “good for anything you do with her,” as her trainer said. But what Barbara is not good at is racing — she has ten starts with nothing better than a single third place finish to show for it. While racing may not be her strong suit, she has unlimited potential for a new career! We admired Barbara’s cute face, her compact and balanced build, and strong shoulder. We saw her just a couple of days after she had raced, and our observation was that she was a bit tight behind — something that many horses experience after racing on the hard dirt track at Finger Lakes.  As Barbara jogged politely for her handler, the tightness eased, and she showed good push from behind and a nice trot with a light spring to it. Her trainer told us that Barbara’s Spirit is sound and has no history of any injuries. Barbara’s Spirit is by Mor Spirit, who is from the Giant’s Causeway sire line and out of a mare from the Dixie Union/Dixieland Band sire line.  Barbara’s Spirit’s dam also brings in very desirable sport horse lines. She is sired by Yes It’s True who is from Raja Baba/Bold Ruler and Clever Trick/Icecapade lines. Her female family is from Deputy Minister lines. This lovely filly presents a great opportunity to get a very nice young horse at and end of the racing season at a bargain price.

BOWING SNOWMAN, 2018 17+h bay gelding

This stunning huge guy is, in our humble opinion, one of the nicest horses we have listed this year — gorgeous, beautifully put together and balanced for his size, super kind and ammy friendly, a very good mover, solid boned, sound and clean legged, great sport horse pedigree by Laoban from the Uncle Mo line, and he is offered at a very enticing price that makes getting him a no brainer. Bowing Snowman’s owner/trainer says that this is “the nicest, kindest horse I have ever had” — and the trainer is an old timer who has had a lot of horses over the years, so this is high praise indeed.  The trainer also reports that in the 3+ years he has had his beloved Bowing Snowman, the horse has always been very sound and has never had any physical issues or any sort. He also has no vices — unless you consider how he has perfected the art of begging for carrots and apples a vice! If you are the lucky person who gets this horse, be prepared to have lots of treats on hand!  Bowing Snowman has been a good consistent racehorse — indeed last year he won so many races that he was voted claiming horse of the year at Finger Lakes. But this year he hasn’t won, and is telling his trainer that he would rather move on to a new career. Bowing Snowman showed very good movement for his jog video, with a big strided walk and a lofty trot with good push from behind and nice reach from the shoulders.  In the first jog video linked below, he is being handled by the trainer’s son. Before the son handled him, the trainer himself, who cannot go at more than a slow shuffle, jogged Bowing Snowman, and to underscore what a kind polite horse this is, big Bowing Snowman politely adjusted his pace and collected himself to slowly stay right alongside his trainer; in the process he showed impressive collection and loft, which left us thinking he could do quite well in the dressage arena. You can see this in the second jog video linked below.  We also had a chance to talk with someone who has galloped Bowing Snowman in the mornings, and we were told that he is a great horse, a gentleman to ride. Bowing Snowman is by Laoban, a son of the great Uncle Mo. Laoban is rapidly becoming known in the sport horse world for siring big leggy very ammy friendly kind horses with great brains, good movement, and jumping ability. Bowing Snowman’s dam, Wild and Windblown, is by Broken Vow, who is by Unbridled, and out of a mare by Deputy Minister — both coveted sport horse sires.  Other notable good sport horse sires in his pedigree include Speightstown, Gone West, Nijinsky, Fappiano, Pleasant Colony.  We expect this big guy will be very popular, so if you are seriously interested act fast!

C C ROULETTE, 2022 16.1h dk bay filly

CC Roulette is proof that “you don’t need a lot of chrome to be fancy”. Although CC is a lovely solid dark bay, she is certainly anything but plain! We met this perfect lady while she was standing quietly in her stall being brushed. We immediately fell in love with her sweet, feminine face and soft, kind eye (and adorable ears). She patiently waited as we chatted to get a little bit of her history- with published works and two starts she is RRP Makeover eligible in 2025 (or, since she’s only two, you could even let her have a year off to mature/ finish growing and under the current rules, you’d still be eligible to compete in 2026). Since she hadn’t shown any huge racing talent, she’s just been ‘sitting around’ for a bit prior to being shipped to Finger Lakes, arriving shortly before we saw her. Her connections have not had her in the barn for long, but have not noticed any stable vices or issues and she has always been well-mannered and pleasant. That’s exactly what we observed. Although it was a chilly and gusty day, this young lady stood politely for her photos and was generally quite sensible during her jog video. Yes, although she’s shiny and pretty, this girl is also built! Big, nicely uphill, and solidly put together- especially considering that she’s only a two-year-old filly. She has a long sloping shoulder, has great depth through the heartgirth with her body blending smoothly into very powerful hindquarters. Deep and solid, she appears to be straight and square and even. We observed good feet and watched her jog barefoot on pavement, moving freely through her shoulders and displaying lofty, springy, rhythmic, and fluid movement that left our dressage volunteers drooling. Although her pictures and video are impressive, she’s even nicer in person! She is by Connect (noted for producing horses with lofty, gorgeous movement) and out of a Magician mare with Sadler Wells and Danzig appearing on her distaff side. She is a big, lovely, sensible, posh young filly that would excel in any direction that a very lucky person might want to take her.

PEACEFUL PERSUASION, 2021 16h bay gelding

While we can all use more peaceful persuasion these days, we don’t think people looking for a great sport horse prospect should need any persuading that this handsome chunky young guy is a terrific prospect to consider!  His sire Peace and Justice (by War Front out of a Smart Strike mare) has already sired several horses succeeding in eventing and in show hunter careers. His dam is by Friends Lake, a son of AP Indy out of a mare from the Spend a Buck/Buckpasser line, who has been a popular stallion for show hunter and eventing breeders looking to cross that Thoroughbred athleticism, intelligence, work ethic, heart and elegance with warmblood mares. Peacefulpersuasion is lightly raced, with 11 starts and 1 win. His win came earlier this year at a track with a lower level of competition, and since moving to Finger Lakes and having to face other winners, he has not been as competitive. His owner/trainer has realized that racing is not his best career, so she would like to move him on to a new career where he can excel.  She says that he is very good to handle, has no bad habits or vices, stands well for the farrier and vet, and that he is sound with no issues that she is aware of. She gallops him and describes him as a horse who likes to work and can get strong, although he isn’t naughty at all. She recommends an experienced rider because he is young and likes to gallop strongly — but this is the trait that translates well to cross county, eventing, and jumping He has a solid compact and powerful build, with a strong hind end with good hip angles that just looks like it will push off powerfully for big jumps. He jogged politely and quietly, with an even light step that showed that good push from behind that one would expect given his hind end, and a nice toe flicking reach from his shoulder. This still growing handsome young horse has unlimited potential for sport horse disciplines, and he certainly has the pedigree to excel in jumping endeavors — and he’s offered at an enticing bargain price.  Why should you need any more persuasion to make him your next eventing or jumping partner?

GIRL OF TOSCONOVA, 2016, 16.2+h, bay mare

She’s the proverbial brick house! We did a double-take on this gorgeous mare who could easily pass as a warmblood in the show ring. She’s tall with a big body, “big booty”, is solid, deep, and has nice balance and proportions. As you might have guessed from her name, she’s by Boys of Toscanova and has the requisite “Boy’s” face (and that forelock!). She also has a lovely, well-developed, arched neck that is nicely set into her long shoulder. Check out the photos noting the width of her chest and hindquarters. She’s a tank- powerful, strong, athletic; solidly and correctly put together. We’re told that she is “a classy, good girl”, great in her stall, with no vices, and lovely to ride. We found her to be sweet, polite, and professional appearing to always have been well-cared for and handled throughout her career. She does have a scar on her LF ankle from an old injury on the walker. Although it never affected her soundness, it healed with some scar tissue giving a thickened appearance which we were told is cosmetic only. As she was already poulticed up for the day, her trainer supplied some additional photos to us afterwards. One of our volunteers (who has her own ‘Boys’ mare) jumped at the chance to get hands on to jog her. Girl was very proper and ladylike, jogging on a very loose lead, politely responsive to her unknown handler even though we all saw a deer frolicking about in the nearby field. Her trainer is downsizing towards retirement and told us that he has recently sold his farm, otherwise he would have kept this lovely girl as a broodmare. Which is an option for you as well, because we can certainly imagine her producing big, beautiful race or sport horses! Girl is by Boys of Toscanova and out of a Crimson Guard mare. Her full sister, “Our Supernova” was a NYRA stakes level mare and graded stakes placed is now a successful broodmare. Girl of Tosconova has been no slouch as a racehorse herself, including at the allowance level, with over $217K in earnings. So, we think she is an exceptional bargain for a classy mare who could be a lovely sport horse or mama (or both)! She entered to run on 11/20 and after that, she is free to start her second (or perhaps even a third as well) career with you!

Queen of Toscanova, 2020 16.1h dark bay filly

When we first glimpsed her beautiful face, there was no mistaking that this lovely filly was a daughter of the late Boys of Toscanova and from the last crop of Boys babies bred in NY/ USA. She is out of a Purim mare with Dynaformer / Roberto lines. Sires from both sides of her pedigree are noted for producing excellent jumpers and sport horses; a big, solid girl like this might also have good potential as a sport horse broodmare. We loved how agreeable and attentive she was, allowing herself to be posed for photos. This filly is very pretty, with a rich velvety dark bay coat. She has a substantial, big-bodied build with a deep heart girth, nice width through the chest and hips, and solid bone. Overall, this sweet girl gave the impression of depth and width while still having pretty and feminine features.

We were told that she is a well-behaved, “good about everything” and a “total sweetheart”. The only thing that might make her grumpy is getting in her way at feeding time! Her trainer, who regularly exercises all of her horses, says that she is delightful to ride and although she has a lot of “good try”, she is definitely more “whoa than a go”. We were told that she does stall walk, but that this usually laid-back girl loves her turnout; her ideal situation would include plenty of outside time. So, she might thrive on a 24/7 turnout situation- or something close to it. We were told that she is a mid-packer in the herd dynamics and gets along well with other horses.

Queen of Toscanova didn’t race until late as a three-year-old; and after her second race, she didn’t seem to have the same push with her hind end. Her connections gave her the winter off, which became nine months off after discovering that the lay-over farm that she had been sent to left all their horses severely under-weight. Through the summer, they slowly brough her back into work where she seemed to be running well. But after her lone start in October, she seems to have aggravated something in her hind end. Rather than attempt to get her back to a point where she can race again (when her speed / personality says she’s not cut out to be a racehorse), her connections would like to find a person who will help her transition to a less intense career where this young, sweet, and substantial mare can truly shine.

PASTA N POLPETTE, 2021 16.1h grey gelding

Everyone loves pasta and polpette (meatballs), and how much more delectable can they be when served in the form of a young still growing striking grey horse!  This big meatball has shown in his four races this year that he would rather not move fast enough to win — but that preference for a slower even pace will translate well to the show ring! His trainer reports that he is a good horse to handle, gallops politely for his exercise riders, has no vices, and has always been sound, and we observed clean legs. He is still butt high and obviously has more growing to do, but we think once he finishes growing and fills out his lanky frame he will be stunning. Although he was missing a right front shoe, he displayed a big strided long slinky walk, and a very nice trot that shoed tantalizing hints of flat kneed reach from the shoulders— although his trainer’s slow movement did not sufficiently allow Pasta N Polpette to fully show off his own movement. Trust our volunteers’ experienced eyes — sometimes you have to see past the movement limitations of the human to see what the horse can be. Pasta N Polpette has an enticing sport horse pedigree. He is sired by Micromanage, a son of Medaglia D’Oro from the El Prado/Sadler’s Wells line. Micromanage has sired several horses that have gone on to success as eventers, jumpers, and show hunters. And Micromanage himself was retired from stud duty and turned into a sport horse! Pasta N Polpette’s dam is by the great Tapit, from the AP INdy sire line.

LUCKY MANNY, 2019 16+h dark bay gelding

Whoever acts quickly to scoop up this adorable barn favorite will be lucky indeed!  Manny is described as a quiet sweetheart who loves his cuddles and treats, and has a lot of personality.  He is reported to be so sensible to ride that they have used him to accompany the youngsters to the track to set an example and keep them settled. We were informed that Manny is sound and has not had any issues, and we observed clean legs.  We got to experience how friendly he is first hand, as he started nuzzling our volunteers while he was being brushed off, asking for — and receiving — hugs and pats.  Manny is a lovely mover, showing a slow light trot with nice rhythm and enticing hits of suspension.  His handler reports that he can stall walk at the track when his neighbors are taken out to go to the races, but that he does not do this on the farm. He has been a good racehorse for his connections, with 4 wins and an additional 7 in the money finishes in 24 starts. He’s won enough that his track connections realize he would have to face tougher competition next year, so they want to let their barn favorite find a new career while he is still young sound and happy.  He is fully eligible for the 2025 RRP. Manny is sired by Alpha, a son of Bernardini who we know has sired horses who are beautiful jumpers and succeeding in new careers as show hunters and eventers. Manny’s dam is by Maclean’s Music, who is by Distorted Humor. It is a rare opportunity to find such a lovely young gelding for such a bargain price, so act fast on this one!

TRIPLE SWEET, 2022,16.1+ bay filly

This girl is a unique shade that we’re describing as a light blood bay- one that will surely help you get noticed in any crowd. Unfortunately, with the overcast day, our photos do not represent how pretty she and her coat color truly are. Triple Sweet started as a fairly promising race prospect but after breaking her maiden, she bruised her left knee. Her connections took precautions and after x-rays, they’ve diligently followed their vet’s recommendation for 6-7 months off of work for her to fully heal (we were told that she’s currently been out of training for about four months now). We were told that she has currently been jogging sound. While she was in serious race training, she was described as having been a very nice, good girl. This is a nice-looking filly who isn’t yet done growing, so she should be very big when she fully matures. She stood reasonably well for her photos and we admired her compact, balanced build. Being a fit, athletic two-year old who has been confined / not in work and then brought outside on a chilly, breezy day, she was feeling ‘up’ and (very understandably) got a little overly enthusiastic during her jog. But after some baby-silliness whoo-hoos, she did manage to pull it back together for her handler. Even though she is missing hind shoes, she displayed a nice overstep to her walk and appeared to have athletic movement during her jog. Triple Sweet is a Big Brown baby out of a Artax mare with Unbridled lines on her distaff side. She’s being offered at a bargain price due to these unique circumstances; references will be required to ensure that her new people will complete the recommended rest period and also have the support / experience to restart a very young Thoroughbred. Additional information can be provided to seriously interested parties. What this means for you? With a little time and turn-out for her to fully heal and finish growing, you could have a lovely, big, very-lightly-raced, athletic filly for a bargain price and a little patience. And that’s certainly a sweet investment!

STRATEGYFORYOU, 2018, 16.3+h, ch, g.

Are you looking for a flashy big horse with an uphill build and gorgeous floaty movement ? Then your strategy should be to scoop up Strategyforyou! This handsome fellow is a “morning glory”, a horse that has promising morning work-outs that somehow doesn’t translate to race wins. His trainer says that he just “doesn’t want to be a racehorse”. He didn’t arrive at the track until last year, and since he has yet to win in 15 starts, and horses older than six who are still maidens cannot run at Finger Lakes, he is now looking for a new job. We think that job could be in any sport horse discipline but he seems especially suited to eventing given his build, movement, and love of long gallops. His current connections have had him for two years and said that he’s always been sound. We liked his big, solid bone, balanced build, and strong hindquarters- he has the compact balance that makes us think of event horses. This boy has performed better at Presque Isle on the synthetic turf than at the dirt at Finger Lakes and his trainer (who rides all his horses) says that he likes to gallop forever and can get stronger the further he goes, so he is probably best for an experienced OTTB owner. We were told that he’s good to work with on the ground and doesn’t have any vices. We were told that at the track he can be tense, but he’s always sensible; at the farm, he’s a different horse, “super chill,” and loves his turnout. What we observed is that although he came out looking a little tense, he settled nicely, gradually relaxing more and more during our visit. During his jog video, we loved his springy, airy, floaty movement; he looks like a very athletic boy. We think that this gorgeous boy says future superstar event prospect to us! He’s very well bred- by Midshipman and out of a Distorted Humor mare.

BLUE SOLDIER, 2020 17h bay gelding

Looking for a Thoroughbred that channels his inner Labrador puppy? Blue Soldier is a friendly, sweet, playful boy with tons of personality. His current connections have had him since his two-year old year, and it was quite clear to us that they are very fond of this big mooch. We were told that he is good to work around, has no stall vices, and is an excellent shipper. We got to observe some of his attention-grabbing antics, including wagging his tongue for people to play with. We did find this ham to be a little bit of a wiggly challenge to photograph- but only because he kept trying to snuggle with his handler. So, you might have to do a little work on getting better selfies with him!  Blue Soldier is very tall with a slightly narrower build- perfect for a taller rider with a proportionally longer torso that doesn’t want a wider bodied horse. He has nice balance with a long, nicely sloped shoulder and solid underpinning. He does have an osselet, but it is cold and set; we were told that it does not bother him and that he is sound. We were told that he is a ”floaty, gorgeous mover”. And we observed a relaxed, fluid walk with a nice overstep and a light, airy, floaty trot that would shine in a variety of disciplines. He even backed up politely when requested. Overall, he presented a chill, calm demeanor and happily grazed on the grass while we took some notes. Although Blue Soldier has run well at both Saratoga and Presque Isle, he’s not a fan of the harder dirt track found at Finger Lakes. As the race season winds down, his connections think it is time to move this personable youngster along to his new career. And he has been reasonably priced so that they can ensure that he will quickly find a great new home. Will he be your new BFF? Blue Soldier is by the Lieutenant, out of an Arch mare with the In Reality/ Relaunch line. One volunteer who is our pedigree expert provided some interesting insights into Blue Soldier’s pedigree.  His sire, The Lieutenant, is the Triple Crown winner Justify’s half-brother. But unfortunately, the Lieutenant only sired one crop of foals because after he was purchased by and shipped to a stud farm in Peru, he was tragically killed in a terrorist attack within that country. So, this is a rare opportunity to own one of those few precious offspring of the Lieutenant.

NORTHUMBERLAND, 2020, 16.3+h, ch, f.

This striking dappled chestnut filly is very tall- we estimate than she might even be 17 hands! And, at only four, she might grow a bit more. She has a bit of flashy chrome to set you apart from the crowd in any show ring (we do love that her hind stockings are “even”) and a distinctive blaze /snip that reminds us of a seahorse. She’s nicely put together with a long, elegant neck and is quite deep through her heartgirth and body. We noted some good-looking feet. We were told that she has a tiny overbite. We’re told that she’s very sweet, loves candy, and is “never mean or mare-ish”, but can have a tad more of an anxious personality (we find that many high achievers- whether horses or people- who want to be people-pleasers are that way) but that this never manifest in any vices. We’re told that she’s great in her stall, “never stupid”, and good to handle. And during our visit, she stood politely and was very attentive and seemed to relax even more once she started moving. Her connections say that she is their favorite in the barn to ride- and we think that speaks volumes! When she’s been off the track, she’s great in turn out; we suspect that she is an even nicer horse off the track with ample turnout. We observed a relaxed forward walk with nice overstep and some classic low “daisy cutter” movement during her jog video. Her trainer said that she has had some body tightness with her recent growth spurts and that they’ve given her chiro and magna wave therapy which she loves. So an occasional spa day may be beneficial for (and certainly much appreciated by) her especially while she finishes growing. She’s lightly raced with only seven starts, but has broken her maiden and moving into tougher competition. If she’s not sold now, she’ll continue racing but we think that she is a lovely young filly could be a great prospect now, finish growing and filling out over the winter, then hit the show ring next spring. Northumberland is by Redesdale, a son of Speightstown out of a Danzig mare, and her dam is by Borrego who is from the El Prado/Sadler Wells lines, out of a Kingmambo dam. These are great sport horse lines!

TINTAGEL, 2019, 15.3h, bay mare

If you’re in the market for a super sweet, spoiled princess, then look no farther than Tintagel.  “Gelly” is a barn favorite who great enjoys the affection her connections bestow upon her.  She is reported to have no vices, is easy to work around, and a pleasure to have in the barn.  She stood and posed perfectly for her photo shoot, clearly aware how beautiful she is, and very much liking the attention she was getting from our volunteers.  Gelly is reported to be sound with no previous injuries.  She even recently had a PPE with rads that she passed with flying colors.  These images are available to interested parties. Gelly is a straightforward ride with no funny business.  For her video, she displayed a huge natural overstride at the walk and a lofty, floaty trot that will easily get you noticed in the show ring.  Even with the wind and having just raced, she was relaxed and polite. Gelly’s pedigree is jam packed with desirable sport horse lines.  She is by Editorial, who is by War Front with Arch on the bottom.  Both of these stallions are known to throw babies with good movement and loads if talent.  On the bottom, she is out of a Medallist mare, who is by Touch Gold, known for trainable, amateur friendly babies.  Tintagel is no exception to her breeding, and we can see this lovely girl excelling in just about any discipline!

DEE BO, 2018, 16.2+ h., dk.bay, gelding

We caught our first glimpse of this kind, friendly boy in his stall and as the trainer grabbed a pitchfork to remove fresh manure, Dee Bo politely lifted his foot for the obligatory poop scoop. We were told he’s great to work with and we observed him as polite and very people-focused. He didn’t disappoint as he was brought out for photos either- he’s a true “climb in your pocket” type. His trainer hasn’t had him for long but said that he is rapidly becoming a barn favorite. And we can understand why. Plus, did we mention that he’s very good looking? One volunteer exclaimed, “he’s stupidly stunning!” which sums up our group consensus. This quiet, chill boy is quite striking with his dark coat, handsome face, and kind eye. He’s tall and well-put together with an elegant neck and good proportions. He displayed a relaxed walk with a good overstep. He remained polite and focused, jogging in a flowy, relaxed, and highly responsive manner. He strikes us as an athletic, pretty mover who could perform well in a variety of disciplines. Dee Bo is by Majestic City out of a Super Saver mare with Maria’s Mon and Gone West on his distaff side. As a six-year-old, he’s very well-travelled across NY racetracks and been a successful allowance level horse up to the NYRA level for all his past connections, and remains a useful money maker, so his trainer would “love to keep” and continue to race him, but the owner has other plans. But we think this gorgeous boy is exactly the perfect age to transition to a new career and will prove to be a fun project and amazing sport horse!

FLUORESCENT BAY, 2019 16.2h dark bay/black gelding

This stunning black beauty is exactly the big , young, sound, great moving gelding with unlimited sport horse potential and a wonderful sport horse pedigree that everyone says they want! Fluorescent Bay is lightly raced, with only 13 starts, but he has shown no aptitude for racing — but we think he has great potential for a sport horse career. He got a late start to his racing career because he wasn’t given a proper start by the training center that his breeder sent him to when he was 2, and his new connections had to start from scratch when they got him as a three-year-old. His current trainer reports that his naturally kind nature has fully emerged, and that he is now a good horse to handle who has been very straightforward to gallop (he gallops his own horses, so this is first-hand information). Fluorescent Bay started his racing career at the top level NYRA tracks such as Saratoga and Belmont, and while he liked to run long on the turf, he wasn’t competitive enough at this top level racing circuit, so his connections sent him to Finger Lakes earlier this summer. He has shown no affinity for the hard dirt track and sprint-oriented races at Finger Lakes, so his connections realize that while racing may not be his game, he has outstanding aptitude for a new career. He is fully eligible for the 2025 RRP. His trainer reports that he has no vices, has always been sound and has never had any injuries or soundness issues — and we observed nice clean legs. He has good bone, a great sloping shoulder, a regal presence, and a kind eye. He was a well-behaved gentleman for his photo session, agreeably letting his trainer move him around as we requested. When his trainer jogged him for our video, on a long loose lead he kindly went right along with what he was asked and displayed a big swinging walk and a long-strided trot with flat kneed movement and reach from the shoulders. With his great movement we think he could shine in the hunter ring, or in dressage/eventing. While we loved him as an upper level sport horse prospect from our in-person inspection, when we looked up his pedigree our enthusiasm for his sport horse potential was even greater. Fluorescent Bay is sired by Creative Cause, a son of Giant’s Causeway, and both sires are well known for horses who are very good jumpers, have endurance and boldness, and have gone on to great success in eventing, as well as in show hunters and jumpers. His dam is by Wild Again, a son of Icecapade, and out of a mare by Lord at War with Seattle Slew on the dam side. Those who follow TB pedigrees that have done well in jumping disciplines will know that these are excellent sport horse bloodlines, known for stoutness and durability and jumpi and cross country aptitude.

QUINCY MARKET, 2020, 17h, bay gelding

Qunicy Market is the tall, dark, and handsome everyone has been looking for! This regally bred youngster sold for $300,000 as a yearling, and while he didn’t pan out as a racehorse, we sure can see him excelling in many disciplines as a sport horse.  Quincy is reported to have no vices, to be easy to handle on the ground, and good to have in the barn.  He is good to be groomed and tacked.

Under saddle, Quincy is a smooth ride but can be a bit strong and up.  He is very athletic. Both his trainer and the woman who ponies him for the races believe that this guy could definitely use some off time to just be a horse.  Quincy is a very big boy, both tall and with substantial bone.  He is reported to have no old injuries but does have some ankle rounding.  He has raced on these ankles and is reported to be sound.

Qunicy is very well bred for sport.  He is by Ghostzapper, sought after for his trainability and level head, and is out of a Broken Vow mare.  For his jog video he displayed a flat-kneed trot with natural suspension that is sure to get you noticed in just about any arena.  Don’t let this big, good-looking guy pass you by!

JOVIO, 2020, 16.1, chestnut filly

This homebred filly is the full, baby sister to two very popular horses previously listed with FLF. The first was Liam’s Majesty who proved to be an amazing eventer, quickly progressing up the levels, and the other is Noah’s Destiny. If you are looking for a potential future eventing superstar, this filly is a great prospect! She may not be quite as big as her older brothers but we’re told that she may be a tad handier, frames up easier, and also has a very lovely way of moving. We can certainly attest to the latter-our dressage volunteers were drooling over her relaxed, fluid movement and a floaty trot which had a nice swing from behind. Her sire, Majestic City is noted for throwing sweet and laid-back horses, while her dam, Vicki Vallencourt (by Regal Classic) was a multiple stakes winner. She has the lean, leggy, shorter-coupled build that is desired in event horses. She strikes us as sensible and athletic. We’re told that this lightly raced (8 starts) filly is sound and doesn’t have any racing injuries. There is a scar on her right hind which she obtained when running through a fence as a yearling but it is purely cosmetic. She’s described as being excellent to work around and great for both the vet and farrier. We found her to be very well- mannered and patient for her photoshoot. At one point, our photographer posed one of her legs and returned back to position and this girl stood perfectly still the whole time. She’s described as being good in her stall with the exception of occasionally some minor stall walking at feeding time. However, this may be alleviated by plenty of turnout time. Jovio has been turned out with other horses and gets along fine in a herd. Her trainer, who regularly rides all his horses, told us that she is excellent to ride, she can go in a more collected frame and is not super strong but “perfect” and a “favorite to ride”. Overall, she does not fit the chestnut mare stereo-type instead, this girl is a snuggly, athletic, people-pleaser.

SET ME FREE, 2021 16h bay gelding

Our volunteers all fell in love with this quiet fancy moving young dude!  He is known as “Rabbit” around the barn, because of his cute long ears and the notch in one of them.  But based on his two very slow recent published workouts, this rabbit can’t beat the tortoise. But racing’s loss is the sport horse world’s gain.  When we saw Rabbit’s trot, we all oohed and aahed and said “this guy could be a top dressage horse!”  He showed off a big rolling walk, and a lofty trot with a slow metronome like rhythm. Power from behind, lightness up front, suspension!  Thanks to his published workouts, Rabbit is fully eligible for the 2025 RRP.  Unraced, his handler says he just doesn’t seem to want to be a racehorse. But that makes him a blank slate for you to bring along. He is reported to be a laid back good horse to handle with no vices. We admired his kind eye, solid bodied balanced conformation and strong shoulder. His legs are very clean. He is sired by Solomini, who is a son of the great Curlin.  Rabbit’s dam is Marie Antoinette, who is by Stormy Atlantic out of a Mr. Greeley mare.  Stormey Atlantic and Mr. Greeley are both deservedly popular as sport horse sires.

If you are interested in the adorable Rabbit, we think you had better hop fast!

APRIL FIRST, 2020 15.3+h bay filly

This beautiful filly was indeed born on April 1st, and we’re not foolin’! April’s trainer tells us that she is one of the sweetest horses she has ever had, and as we were petting April in her stall while her trainer brushed her off for a photo shoot, another trainer in the same shed row walked by and told us “she’s so sweet you can curl up next to her and take a nap!” April’s trainer also told us that this sweetheart is a good eater, loves candy, loves turnout and settles in well with a group, has no vices, and is great to handle. But what April is not great at is racing — she has yet to win in 14 starts. After her last race in September, she came back with a slight filling in her ankle, so her trainer decided that with the end of the meet approaching this was a good time to let her find a new career. April was never off on the ankle at all, and it was just a minor strain that is now fully healed and she has been cleared as good to go on to do anything you want to do with her! For her jog video April trotted along politely on a loose lead and displayed lovely movement with a nice toe pointing reach from her shoulders and an even cadence. We think with this lovely movement and her pretty looks, April has great potential to shine in the show hunter ring! April has the cutest white chin, and just enough chrome to stand out in the show ring. She is sired by Jimmy Creed, who is a son of Distorted Humor out of a mare from Dixieland Band lines. April’s dam is by Freud out of a mare from Runaway Groom/Blushing Groom and Hail to Reason lines. This is a great sport horse pedigree! April’s trainer told us that the filly is very athletic and brave, and that she should be able to do anything. “Someone is going to get a really nice horse” she said! April is offered at a bargain price for such a lovely young horse, so come take advantage of this opportunity!

IMALOTTALADY, 2021, 15.0 h, bay filly

For this girl, we think that her name says a lot. She may be small, but she is a mighty (or at least she imagines herself to be!). She gave us the impression of a confident, sassy, athletic, young filly. She is a pretty girl with a shiny, bright bay with a dappled coat and just enough chrome for a little extra flash, she is a pretty girl who is sure to attract attention. She has a compact, well-balanced, and nicely proportioned body with a long sloping shoulder. She appears to have clean legs with all four legs squarely underneath her.  We were told that she does not have any injuries or issues; she is being offered for sale as her trainer is downsizing for the winter, and moving her less competitive horses on to their second careers.

Imalottalady is by Bustin Stones out of a Freud mare. Both sires are noted for producing athletic offspring with good brains. She stood politely for us to get her confirmation photos, but as we started to film her jog video, this young filly was understandably a tad distracted by shenanigans on the nearby hot walker and a bicycle rider zipping by. But she settled to display cute, balanced, and athletic movement, giving us the impression that she is quick and clever on her feet. We could see this pint-size cutie excelling in a variety of disciplines that would engage her active brain. If you are a more petite rider that appreciates a good mare who will be a thinking and active partner, this bodacious girl might be your perfect match! Her size and personality certainly make her a reasonable consideration for polo as well.

STONEY LONESOME, 2021, 15.1 h., ch. filly

This sweet and quiet “fun-size” girl wants to be someone’s special show pony, not a racehorse! And her unique, rich, liver- chestnut color with golden under-tones and flashy markings will surely help you stand out in any crowd. We were told that she is a total sweetheart and that’s certainly what we observed. We found her wonderful to work with, she stood and jogged quietly for us with just a plain rope lead. She struck us as being very well-handled and having a great brain, and remember…she’s only three! Our volunteer taking photos quipped, ”I’m not sure we’ve ever had an easier horse to photograph”.

Her handler was not aware of any vices or injuries. We observed a thick, compact build, clean legs, and a balanced, well-proportioned, nicely muscled body with a long sloping shoulder. Her long, elegant neck has an attractive natural arch. She displayed cute, relaxed, and springy movement during her jog video. We could imagine this athletic girl in a variety of disciplines- both english and western (perhaps western dressage?). Or as a fun, versatile, “jack-of-all-trades”. Maybe a future pony club or 4-H mount.

With her name, did you guess she is by Bustin Stones?  He’s noted for siring nicely moving horses with good brains. Freud, another stallion noted for siring ammy-friendly offspring, appears on her distaff side. With this pedigree, it is no surprise that this filly is sensible and quiet, ammy- / jr-friendly, and likely an easier restart. Her trainer is currently down-sizing her stable for winter, moving less competitive horses on to their second careers giving you the unique opportunity to score a sensible, young filly for a reasonable price.

NAMASQUAN, 2020 14.2H DK BAY FILLY

Should we describe her as cute or gorgeous? Because she is both at the same time- a dark, velvety, pony-sized beauty. Petite and perfectly proportioned, Namasquan is a lovely shade of dark chocolate with the smallest speck of white on her forehead. This elegant, diminutive and adorable girl really knew how to strike a pose. She was relaxed and attentive during her photoshoot, standing quietly and patiently. She has the classic, elegant Thoroughbred hunter build / look, only in a miniature form. We observed clean legs, and lovely balance and proportion. She does have a small indentation on her face with which she was born. We weren’t able to stick measure her, but estimate that she may technically qualify at pony height. We were told that she has no stable vices, that she is “perfect” to ride; in general, she is a sweet, sensible, quiet, little lady. Jogging politely in just a plain halter and lead, we saw a swinging, relaxed walk and the flat-knee, classic daisy cutter movement during her jog video. We could see her as the perfect little pony show-ring hunter. Her trainer is downsizing, moving her less competitive horses onto their second careers before the snow flies, and commented, “She jogs faster than she runs”. Namasquan is by Connect and out of a Freud mare.

UNCLE VIC, 2019, 15.3h, dk. bay gelding

Our first horse to visit on this chilly, blustery day was the super-cool and extremely fun dude, Uncle Vic. His current owner told us that she has not had him in her barn for that long, and in that time she’s been working on getting him a little more filled out, but we thought he looked absolutely fabulous. She said that he has “the potential to be lovely”, and we totally agree on that count! He’s very personable and since he has connected with her in a relatively short time, we think he’ll be a complete in-your-pocket type when he gets his own person.  He is a half-sibling to Duck Pond Road who was a very popular FLF placing last year- another sweet, laid-back, and bomb-proof horse. A lucky someone is going to be very happy with this young, handsome and extremely friendly boy too. Uncle Vic is quiet and dependable enough that his owner / handler told us that she allows her kids walk him around (and that they love him!). Uncle Vic was described to us as being chill, and having a fun and quirky personality. And that’s exactly what we observed. You MUST watch his jog video! His handler threw the lead rope over his back and he essentially jogged himself. Perhaps he’d be fun to play around with at liberty? We were told that, like any five-year-old gelding, he can have typical youngster moments where he can be a tad distracted… *squirrel!* but that he also is quite sensible and settles down quickly to get right back to work. He was a very good boy for his photoshoot and seemed to enjoy the fussing and attention. We admired his athletic build and proportions; he looks like he could excel in a variety of disciplines, or dabble in several. The personality on this one definitely left us smiling. Super Ammy-friendly, he happily grazed on the lawn while we chatted and got all his vital statistics. Uncle Vic is by Soaring Empire (with Unbridled/Fappiano and AP Indy lines) and out of a Roaring Fever mare (storm Cat and Danzig). He’s entered to race on Tuesday, 10/29. So why not hook up your trailer, come watch your new BFF run, and then take him straight home with you?

LADY FORTUNA 2020 16.1h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack, Farmington, NY (near Rochester).

If ‘luck be a lady tonight’ whoever scoops up this lovely filly will be very fortunate indeed. This bright, shiny, bay filly was extremely photogenic with her dapples sparkling in the sun. She was attentive and stood patiently for her photoshoot. Lady Fortuna has lovely balance with a long shoulder and a leggy, lean, and smoothly muscled physique. She is quite elegant in appearance. Her handler was not aware of any vices or injuries, and we were told that she truly is a lady- whether in the barn, being ponied or ridden, or out with other horses. This very pretty and feminine filly sold for $65,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton. She is by Accelerate out of an Orb mare and is also a very well-travelled young lady- having raced at Saratoga, Belmont and Aqueduct. During her jog video, we observed a relaxed overstep at the walk and pretty, floaty movement at the jog that should appeal to judges in both the hunter and dressage rings. As she jogged out in just a rope lead, her handler kept her tightly controlled on the busy backside, but we bet that she will be quite pretty when allowed to move out and extend a little bit more. Her owner/ trainer is downsizing before winter, moving her less competitive horses onto their second careers. This gives you a chance to get this fancy, lightly raced girl for a reasonable price and be ready to hit the spring shows.

BAM BAM WARRIOR 2019 16.2h. dk bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack, Farmington, NY (near Rochester).

If tall, dark, handsome, and charming is your jam, then Bam Bam Warrior might be your prince charming. This “sweetheart” was a perfect gentleman for his photoshoot. We found him to be fun and easy to work with: quiet, polite, friendly, curious, willing to engage, while also being very businesslike. A nice brain on this one! We also think that he might be a total snuggle-bug once he finds his person and his sweet personality can truly shine. His handler was not aware of any vices. He does have an old ankle and a scar on his knee but he has raced on these and we were told that neither seems to bother him. When we saw him, he was barefoot and overdue for a trim. He’s a tad on the leaner side, with correct proportions, an elegant neck, and well-set legs. We thought he had a very powerful build to his hindquarters- essential in so many different disciplines. Can you imagine what he will look like with a few groceries and building up his topline and muscles for a new sport? No doubt, he will be quite stunning. Bam Bam Warrior is by Flintshire, out of an Arch mare. His current connections feel that he is not competitive enough to winter and run again next year. Which creates an amazing opportunity for you! We feel that this big, sweet, handsome, even-tempered boy is a diamond in the rough with great potential and a true bargain at his asking price.

CAPE COD GEM, 2018 16.2+ h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

If you are looking for an A Circuit show hunter prospect or upper-level eventing prospect, then this horse is for you! Gem, as he is known around his barn, is indeed a gem!  A trainer favorite, she raved about what a good guy her beloved gem is. He’s such a really good boy, she kept saying — great to handle, to ride or to pony on the track, to trailer. She said he has no vices, is an easy keeper, has been sound with no issues the entire time she has had him, and that “he loves you to love on him and give him treats.”  Gem has been a successful racer and steady check producer in the years she has had him, but since he won a race earlier this year and has had to face tougher competition, he’s not finding the same racing success, so she knows that it is a good time to let him move on to a new career.  Our volunteers drooled over his gorgeous good looks, balanced conformation with a great shoulder and topline. The photos do not do him justice, since we photographed him just a couple days before he was entered to race, and in an excess of caution they put a lip chain on him, while saying he didn’t really need it. Then, when he jogged for his video we all loved him even more, with both our show hunter volunteer and our dressage volunteer equally wowed. He showed off a lovely fluid trot, striding out with great reach and good hind end engagement.   In addition to his good looks and beautiful movement, Gem offers an ideal sport horse pedigree. His sire Gemologist is by Tiznow. His dam, Cape Cod Carol, is from the Unbridled’s Song sire line and her dam is from the Valid Appeal/In Reality sire line.

CENTRAL CAPITAL, 2017 15.1h dark bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

This nearly all black beauty is one of those wise soul horses who has earned her keep on the track and is still clean legged, sound, happy with a great temperament, and she’s a lovely mover too. For those of you who are of smaller build and know you do not need a huge horse, we think this mare will reward you for many years, and she can go in any new discipline direction you want. An astute horsewoman at the track, who has a H/J background and is in the same barn as Central Capital’s trainer, and has ponied the, tells us that she is a smart, classy quality mare who will make an excellent children’s hunter. On the day we photographed her we watched her trainer groom her in her stall, and she was a perfect angel. She was friendly and inquisitive with our volunteers and enjoyed posing for photographs. Her trainer said she is quiet and very good to handle and work around, has no vices, and is not marish at all. We observed clean legs, and the trainer said she is sound. For her jog video, she trotted along politely on a long loose lead, and showed off a cute balanced even trot with nice toe pointing reach. Central Capital is by Central Banker, who is a son of Speightstown out of a Go for Gin mare. Central Banker has deservedly become a popular sport horse sire, with offspring succeeding in hunters, eventing, and dressage, with good athletic jumping ability and great brains. Central Capital’s dam is by Kafwain, who is from the Runaway Groom/Blushing Groom sire line that has produced so many good show hunters and jumpers. Central Capital has had 3 wins in her career, with another 13 in the money finishes. But this year, she is showing less interest in racing and has yet to hit the board – signaling to her connections that it is time to let her move on to a new career. Since this mare is fully physically and mentally mature, and has such a good nature, we think she will transition quickly to a new life and enjoy learning a new job.
