BUSTIN FREE, 2016 15.3h chestnut mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Hey barrel racers– are you looking for a stocky, solid bodied, quick and handy horse who we and the trainer think will excel in your discipline (and whose sire has several offspring succeeding as barrel racing horses)? If so, here is your girl! But with her solid bodied and correct conformation, clean legs, good work ethic, and light springy trot, we also think that Bustin Free is an excellent prospect for any new discipline and she has excellent pedigree lines for jumping — so everyone should be interested in this beautiful mare! At this time of year, when horses have started to grow in their winter coats, it is rare to see dapples — but wow does this mare glow with dappled good health! Her dapples glowed even in the gloom of a cloudy cold morning, a testament to the excellent care she gets from her loving track trainer, who cares deeply about finding her horses ideal post-racing homes. In our experience, she comes from a great barn with a trainer who takes great care of her horses and cares deeply about finding them great homes when their racing career has run its course. Her trainer reports that Bustin Free is a sound horse who has not had any issues, is free of any vices, is good to handle, and exhibits a strong work ethic and good energy in training and in her races. She is quick out of the starting gate, with that burst of speed that is so important in barrel racing. For her jog video she showed a cute springy trot, which led us to think that in addition to barrel racing, she could be a good prospect for dressage, western pleasure, trails — or any discipline. Bustin Free is sired by Bustin Stones, who is a son of City Zip,and her dam is sired by Salt Lake from the Deputy Minister line. We have placed several Bustin Stones offspring who are succeeding in many new disciplines, from barrel racing to dressage to eventing to hunters. Bustin Stones has truly proven to be a sire of all around horses, solid bodied, eager to work, and adaptable. Bustin Free has been a solid race horse, and this year she has 9 starts with two wins and 3 additional top three finishes. She is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP, and we would be very excited to see her represent FLF in disciplines such as barrel racing, competitive trail, and freestyle.

HURRICANE ALPHA, 2017 16.1h chestnut gelding — retained for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Nicknamed Percy by his owner and his trainer, this lightly raced solid boned young gelding has an impressive uphill build, a great shoulder, and excellent angles all around. And he’s a grandson of Bernardini with an excellent sport horse pedigree. Percy is described by his trainer as a great worker in the morning, but he’s just not putting out the effort in his afternoon races, and he has yet to win in 13 starts. She says he has always been sound, and that he is a friendly horse who likes attention. He can be full of himself in the racetrack environment when he’s in full racing condition, but she says on the farm over the winters he has been very mellow and kind. She reports that on the farm he was cared for and hacked around by a teenager who adored him. During our photo session, Percy stepped on himself in front, and pulled off one shoe cleanly, so for his jog video he is missing a front shoe. But that hardly seemed to bother him; he showed a good push from behind and big movement. We think he is an exciting eventing prospect, but any sport horse discipline should suit him. We listed his half brother Pitterpatter (out of the same dam) earlier this summer, and just a couple of months off the track Pitterpatter is already jumping small courses and showing great jumping ability. Percy is by Alpha, who is a so of Bernardini (by AP Indy). Percy’s dam is by Charismatic (a Storm Bird son) out of a mare by Woodman. Percy checks all the boxes: big, young, sound, good moving, lightly raced gelding with an excellent sport horse pedigree!

FIELD PATROL, 2016 16.2h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
If you are into TB pedigree royalty, they don’t come with better breeding than this big laid back guy! His sire is champion Ghostzapper (by Awesome Again), and his dam is by Street Cry out of Salute, a stakes winning mare who has produced numerous stakes winners including millionaire turf star Mr. Speaker, as well as a champion steeplechaser! And his third dam is the immortal Personal Ensign, widely acclaimed as one of the best racehorses of all time. Field Patrol is lightly raced, with only 10 starts. Earlier in his racing career he had some top placings running long on the turf at top tracks, but then he decided he didn’t like the starting gate, and he hesitated at the start until finally he refused to leave the gate. His current owner/trainer says he trains great in the morning, and is nice to ride. She says he is very smart, and has a quiet laid back personality. She also reports that he is sound, good to handle, and has no vices. She stopped his training over a month ago, so now he lacks a top line and is furry with his winter coat. But just imagine what he can look like once he’s spiffed up and through retraining for a new discipline develops a good top line — he’s got a great solid bone structure, strong hind end, good shoulder, and well balanced conformation. He was very quiet for his video, and showed a nice walk and a trot with lovely suspension and cadence. We also watched some of his race videos, and observed a flowing and smooth big strided gallop with good reach from the shoulders without any high knee action. We think he has excellent sport horse potential, and might enjoy the quiet cantering of the hunter ring, or the dressage arena where his suspension can shine. He is closely related to a top steeplechaser, so jumping ability is in his blood. While he may currently look like a bit of a diamond in the rough, we think the class in his bloodlines will come to the fore, and he may turn out to be one of the bargains of the year! He raced this year, so he is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP.

DADDYSOVERDRAFT, 2019 15.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
When the trainer asked us to list this horse, he told us that Daddy was “cute as a button and sweet as candy.” When we had the pleasure of meeting Daddy for ourselves, we agree completely with that description! We met Daddy as he was being led off the walking machine, and we just hung out in the road talking with his handler, as Daddy nuzzled us and stood perfectly quiet despite full track morning activity going on around him. Daddy just wanted to be hugged and petted — and given treats of course. When he jogged off for his video, we noticed his light floaty “daisy cutter” movement. His handler confirmed that exercise riders say that the horse indeed feels like he floating over the ground when they ride him. As further evidence of how unflappable and willing to try anything Daddy is, we were informed that his owner is primarily a harness racing person who decided to buy a few TBs for flat racing. And thus Daddy was at the Vernon Downs harness racing track, and the owner said well he needs some exercise so try hooking him up to a sulky. And off little Daddy went, as sensible and happy as can be, pulling the sulky and happily adapting to being driven, and utterly unfazed by lot of harness race horses working out all around him. Wow, our first listing certified to be a carriage driving horse! We can see Daddy making an adorable show hunter for a teen working with a trainer, or for a smaller adult. Since Daddy is only two, he will definitely grow some more, and we think he might top out at around 15.3h. His sire Dr. Large (who is by AP Indy), is known for getting later maturing horses — and several of his offspring are succeeding in sporting disciplines including hunters, jumpers, eventing, and dressage. Daddy’s dam is by Quiet American, a coveted sport horse sire. Daddy has had two races, and it is obvious to his trainer that his aptitude lies in a different career. He is sound and clean legged — and totally adorable!

CROSSING ALASKA, 2016 16.1h dark bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Pretty, elegant, sweet, a lovely mover with a great pedigree for eventing and jumping disciplines– this beautiful young mare has everything going for her, and we think she has a bright future as sport horse. Her trainer describes her as a quiet and good girl, always well behaved, sound, clean legged, and with no vices or bad habits. She is ready to move on to a new career because with two wins this year, and three overall in her 33 races, there will be few race conditions for which she is eligible at Finger Lakes next year. We photographed her the day after she raced, and she showed lovely, light and flowing movement — no signs of stiffness or wear on her right after a race!  She drew us in with her pretty head and kind eye.  She has the looks and movement to do well in the hunter ring, and we also think that eventing and dressage could be great new career options for her.  Her sire is Cross Traffic, a young son of Unbridled’s Song out of a mare from the Stop the Music/Hail to Reason sire line.  Her dam, Alaska Miss, is by Officer, who is from the Relaunch/In Reality sire line, and is out of a mare from the Gone West sire line.  THis lovely young mare is offered at an enticingn bargain price, and we think she will get snapped up quickly, so don’t hesitate if you’re interested!

MAGIC GRITS, 2018 16h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (near Rochester).
If you’re looking for your very own black beauty, look no further! While Magic Grits may not be truly black, his dark, dappled and shiny coat sure looks nearly black This sweet, young man captivated our volunteers with his friendly attitude, balanced conformation, kind eye, and lovely movement. He exudes class and his connections report that he is a truly special horse who does everything right — except run fast. Thus, his specialness will best be appreciated in disciplines other than racing. After 5 starts, he has yet to come close to winning. But we think he will be a winner for sure in a new career! He has no vices and is reported to be sound and very easy to work with on the ground and in the saddle. He stood patiently while our volunteers took their photos and he was definitely seeking out attention. He jogged politely despite the cold and rainy weather, and golf carts and cars driving up alongside. While in his stall, he hung his head over and waited for anyone who would come and give him kisses. He is by Mineshaft, a son of AP Indy. His dam, Saythreehailmarys, is by Repent out of a mare from the Devil’s Bag/Halo line.. This is that tall dark and handsome young gelding that everyone is looking for!

HOPE I CAN, 2017, 15.3h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Here is a very elegant girl that could take her new owner in any direction. “Hope” is reported to be a very good girl that has no vices and, as witnessed by our volunteers, is super easy to work around on the ground. She is reported to be a smart girl who is not fazed by much. Her exercise riders believe that she would be very successful as an eventer and is reported sound. She is a product of the famous Darley/Goldolphin breeding program, so you can be assured that her bloodlines are the best of the best. Her sire Alpha won the Travers, and is a son of Bernardini, who is by AP Indy. Bernardini offspring are quite popular as jumpers, eventers, and dressage horses. Her dam Fingers Crossed is By Elusive Quality, who is By Gone West — one of the best TB sire lines for good jumpers. Her second dam is a stakes producer. Hope I Can’s third dam is champion Ajina — in light of this quality in her female family, this filly has good broodmare potential in addition to her sport horse potential.

THIRSTYFORAMIRACLE, 2015, 15.3h bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). This sweet girl seems to have everything going for her, except for her desire to race! After 28 starts and earning only $8000 without any wins, she is letting her connections know this just isn’t her game. Her connections report that in her six starts this year, she has yet to hit the board, so they are positive she will be happier in a different career. They describe her as a “good egg”. She is good to work around, very sweet, and they report she is a favorite for her exercise rider. When we arrived, she was happily being groomed without being tied, just munching on her hay. Her caregivers report she does crib and wears a collar to help prevent this. They report she has no soundness issues. Thirsty has spent some time at the farm in the winter and they report she really relaxes there and enjoys her time “just being a horse”. She walked and jogged very quietly for her video (until the scary tarp covered golf cart came by-and we can’t blame her there!) She is by Stay Thirsty, who is by Bernardini. Her dam is by Awesome Again ( a son of Deputy Minister out of a Blushing Groom mare). She is RRP eligible for 2022.

MULIMBIMBY, 2018, 15.1h+, Bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This very quiet, sweet young filly, despite being very well bred, shows no aptitude for running. In her 5 starts, she has yet to hit the board. Her trainer has decided that she is much better suited to the sport horse world, and we agree. Mulimbimby (named after a town in the Australian outback) has a refined classic thoroughbred look, very well balanced, with a strong shoulder, good hip angles, and solid bone. She is still a bit butt high, so she is still growing, and may well top off at closer to 15.3h. Her connections report that she is a very good girl that is easy to work around, very quiet, sweet, and she has no vices. Her trainer says she is sound, and her legs are clean. Our volunteers were gushing over her sweet face, and she was happy to soak up the attention. She jogged politely and quietly on a loose lead, and showed even, straight and flowing movement. She is sired by Maclean’s Music, a rising star sire, who is by Distorted Humor from a mare with Unbridled’s Song and Gone West lines. Mulimbimby’s dam, Sally’s Warrior, is a daughter of AP Warrior, a son of AP Indy out of a Quiet American mare. The second dam is from Dehere/Deputy Minister, and Smarten/Cyane lines. This young filly is suitable for any discipline, with no limitations.

HAYAI, 2019, 16.1h Bay Gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Hayai is another youngster sired by Japan that isn’t showing racing ability, but wow does he ever have outstandig sport horse potential! Are you starting to notice a similarity in the Japan offspring that we have posted recently? Leggy, uphill athletic builds with great shoulders, good neck sets, alert intelligent expressions, dark brown, elegant, very good movement. Hayai certainly checks all those boxes. Our volunteers were very taken by this large youngster! For his age and size, it was noted how well he is put together. His connections report that he is extremely sensible for his age and that he gallops really well. They say he is very classy, warms up well before a race, and it just couldn’t be stressed enough how well behaved he is. On a cool, rainy day he stood patiently while we did his photo shoot and remained respectful of his handler during his jog video despite a lot of activity going on around him. For his jog video, he walked and jogged politely on a loose lead and showed off beautiful movement — lightness, suspension, good hind end , reach from the shoulders. He is reported to have no vices and is reported sound, and he has clean legs. He has had only three starts and has yet to hit the board. His sire Japan, a son of Medaglia D’Oro from the Sadler’s Wells sire line, is quickly gaining a reputation as an excellent sport horse sire. We have placed several Japan offspring over the last three years, and they have turned out to be very good movers and jumpers, who are successful in new careers including eventing, jumping, and eventing. To add to the attractive sport horse package, Hayai’s dam is by Stroll, a son of Pulpit. And his female family is one of the best in the US stud book –his 4th dam is a full sister to the great Round Table, and this female family has produced many stakes winners and champions on the track. Quality in the bloodlines can certainly bode well for a new sport horse career. Hayai is elegible for the 2022 RRP.

DR. FLASH, 2018, 15.2h Bay Gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester.
Proof positive that good things come in small packages. Don’t let this guy’s small stature steer you away from him, as what he lacks in size, he makes up for in presence. This dapple-covered, uphill built young guy is reported to be extremely well mannered. He warms up for races alone, without any need for an accompanying pony — a testament to his unflappability and sensible brain. He has no stall vices and is easy to work with on the ground. His handler reported that while he can be a bit wary of new people at first, once he warms up to you, he’s a very in your pocket type of guy. He is reported to be sound, and his legs are clean. He has had only 11 starts, with one win, one second, and one third. He is not shoiwng enough racing ability for his trainer tho think he will have much success in the tougher race conditions he must now face. For his jog video, Dr. Flash walked and trotted politely on a loose lead, not the least bit up from the cold rain and wind. He showed a flowing even walk and a very cute flat kneed trot. Dr. Flash has an outstanding sport horse pedigree, especially for jumping disciplines. His sire, Dr. Large, is from AP Indy, Northern Dancer, and Buckpasser lines. His dam’s pedigree in particular shouts out “good jumpers”! She is from the Kris S./Roberto/Hail to Reason sire line, and a Blushing Groom and Northern Baby female family. Northern Baby was one of the top North American sires of steeplechasers for many years, and sired several champion horses over the jumps. For those of you who do not require a huge horse, but want a solid bodied, level headed, do anything kind of horse — and he will grow a bit more since he is only three –Dr. Flash is your guy.

PARTY AT SALT LAKE, 2015, 16h Bay Mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester).
This dappled beauty is yet another sweet mare that all her connections have nothing but good things to say about. Our volunteers were told that she is extremely easy and that they wished all of their horses were like her. She goes off without a pony at the track and we were told if ever there was an “ammy friendly” horse at the track, this was it. She is very sweet and kind, and completely unflappable as our volunteers observed when she was even unfazed as one jumped up and down and flailed her arms to get her attention for pictures! She has no vices and is reported sound. She does have slight rounding on her right front ankle but it has never appeared to give her any issue. She jogged politely on a loose lead, and showed nice even movement that could do well in the hunter ring. She is by Desert Party, who is a son of Street Cry.
Her dam is by Salt Lake, who is from the Deputy Minister sire line. Don’t miss this absolute gem of a girl that would be suitable for any discipline.

THANXFORLASTNITE, 2015, 16h chestnut mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Does her name have you blushing? Our volunteers had a good laugh at this creative name (she is by Rule by Night out of Mess in a Dress)! Thanx had already been done up in wraps when we arrived (which is standard procedure after training at this barn), but her handler reports she has nice clean legs and is happy to send you additional pictures! Thanx has earned over $58,000 in her 37 starts with 4 wins, 3 seconds, and 8 thirds. She has slowed down a bit this year, so her connections are ready to move her on to a new career. Her connections report she is a good girl to work around and has no stall vices. Her exercise rider reported she is one of her favorites (always a good endorsement to have) and that she is excellent with the pony as well. Our volunteers loved her correct, uphill build and strong sloping shoulder. She showed off beautiful movement for her jog video, with a big trot step, with good hind end engagement and a huge flowing reach from her shoulder. This movement is nice enough for the hunter ring, or the dressage arena. We could see her excelling in any sporting career. She was well behaved for her photos and jog video on the cold rainy day. Her pedigree is replete with all of the most sought after sport horse sires. Her sire, Rule By Night, is a son of Malibu Moon out of a mare from Deputy Minister and Secretariat lines. Her dam, Mess in a Dress, is from Hennessy, Unbridled, and Cozzene/Caro lines. If you love California Chrome, you might be intrigued by the fact that this mare’s third dam produced his sire! ODIN’S STEED, 2015, 17.1h, Grey/Roan Gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). For everyone looking for the elusive huge, gorgeous grey gelding-here’s your unicorn! Odin is very special to his connections. They report they will be very particular about finding him the perfect home. While his height, good looks, and good movement boasts great promise, his connections believe that he would be best suited for a lower level jumping, or dressage or pleasure home, and that he will best fit for someone with experience due to his size and athleticism. But whoever gets Odin will have to have pockets of never-ending peppermints! They report that he had a small bow in his right forelimb in 2018. He was given a full year off and brought back correctly. He did return to racing, and ran a few times in the Covid-truncated 2020 racing season, and won at the maiden special and allowance level. But when training this spring for a return to racing in 2021, he had some mild filling in the previously bowed tendon. He has remained sound the entire time. Note that on the mornign we photographed him, by the time we got to his barn he had already been “done up” in this barn’s standard practice of wrapping horses that had exercised that morning. Odin is a barn favorite and very loved, so they do not want to risk his soundness in high intensity upper level careers. They would love to see him go to a home with a competitive dressage rider. Due to his size, he would be best suited for a taller rider. They report he can be strong and should go to a confident rider/handler, especially given his size. In his 8 starts, he earned over $59,000 with 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 3 thirds. There’s a lot of heart in this guy! He is by Violence, who is a rising star sire and a son of the great Medaglia D’Oro, from the Sadler’s Wells sire line and out of a Gone West mare. These bloodlines make Violence a prime prospect as a sport horse sire. Odin is out of an Unbridled’s Song mare.

ON MICK’S DAY, 2018 16.3h grey/roan gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). If your goal is to blend in with the warmbloods, Mick is your man! This young guy is SOLID! His connections had only positive superlatives to describe Mick. They report he is retiring totally sound, he’s just not showing any promise as a race horse. After 8 starts, he has yet to hit the board, but they are confident he would be more successful in a different career. He showed nice movement for his walk and jog video with good suspension and a big step. His trainer reported he is excellent to work with and handle, super well behaved and “classy”. At only three years old, Mick will continue to grow and fill out, so he will be best suited for a taller rider. His connections feel he would be best suited as an eventer, dressage horse, or jumper due to his movement, size, and athleticism. Mick has an ideal sport horse pedigree that should appeal to people looking for upper level potential. His sire is The Factor, a son of War Front out of a Miswaki mare. Offspring by The Factor are known for great brains, work ethics, good movement and jumping ability, and The Factor is already a coveted sire for people looking for top level eventing prospects off the track. Mick’s dam, On Oaks Day, is a daughter of Malibu Moon, a sire that everyone in the sport horse world loves. Danzig, AP Indy, Fappiano, Alydar, Buckpasser, and Caro are other top sport sire lines in his pedigree. He will be a fun project for RRP 2022 and his fancy moves will certainly turn heads!

PARLAPIANO, 2015, 16.2h dark bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). On a super cold, blustery day, Parlapiano (meaning “Smooth Talker” in Italian) walked confidently out of her barn on a loose lead. She posed perfectly for her photo shoot, never moving a foot out of place. Her connections report she is a super, super sweet mare-never marish. She is easy to work around, is good for her riders, and has no vices in her stall. They report she is retiring sound with clean legs. She had beautiful dapples even with a bit of her winter coat coming in. We admired her beautiful floaty trot and think she could go in many different directions for a second career, but with her looks, kind temperament, and movement, the hunter ring, dressage, and eventing strike us as great new careers for her. Her gorgeous movement and sweet personality won our volunteers over, and she came oh so close to going home with one of them who isn’t even a mare person! Parlapiano has been turned out over the winters in a group of mares and did well. Her track connections report that she loves turnout! She has been a good race horse, earning over $126,000 in her 33 starts with 3 wins,4 seconds, and 4 fourths. She has a good sport pedigree, and also could have some broodmare appeal, since her dam has produced a NY stakes winner who has over $500,000 in earnings. Parlapiano is by Stay Thirsty, who is a son of Bernardini (AP Indy) out of a Storm Bird/Roberto line mare. Parlapiano’s dam, who is a stakes producer, is by Eddington, a son of Unbridled, and out of a mare from the Indian Charlie/Caro sire line. Parlapinao will be RRP eligible for 2022! MAJESTIC TOES, 2019, 15.3h, Chestnut Filly

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY)
These “Fancy Feet” are clearly just made for something other than racing, according to her connections. She’s been with her current trainer for a few weeks and had her first and only start on 10/12, but she made it clear that she’s just not cut out to maintain racehorse speed. She broke well, but lost interest in the pursuit and her trainer has decided that it’s best to let her find a new discipline instead of trying to keep her in race training throughout the winter. Her youthfulness is evident, but she is reportedly good to work around and a smart filly. She is still a bit unsure of her surroundings at the track, but her humans do think she would settle into farm life where it’s not so busy. She is by the popular sport horse sire Frost Giant (Giant’s Causeway/ Gone West), who seems to produce athletic horses with good brains and good movement who are scopey jumpers that excel in sporting careers. Her dam is by Majestic Warrior (AP Indy) out of a Point Given mare. We loved her build and her nice topline. We think she will be quite stunning when she is done growing and filling out! At only two, she would benefit from some time off to finish growing, and winters are a great time for that! She will be a blank slate to restart the spring and eligible for RRP 2022!

TRAPPER JANE, 2013 15.3h bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). This lucky girl has been with her current connections over 5 years, including some of her most successful race seasons. Trapper Jane is retiring after 58 starts with 10 wins, 8 seconds, and 12 thirds, which have earned over $109,000. This is a testament to her big heart, intelligence, and durability on the track. They report she is super quiet to handle and good to ride. When we observed her on this cold, wet day, she stood perfectly still for her photos without moving a foot out of place. She walked and jogged very politely on a loose lead without a chain, and she showed a nice flowing walk and a cute even trot. They report this is her typical demeanor, always very levelheaded and wise. Her connections report that the best of homes is an absolute must for this girl. They do not want her going to someone who plans on flipping her and would love to see her going with someone who really wants to bond with a horse and have her long term. We think that Jane would be an ideal partner for a teen working with a trainer, who wants to do a bit of everything — hunter shows, hunter paces, trails, perhaps some low level eventing. Her track connections care deeply about Jane, and they would love to receive updates on how she is doing in her second career. They report they have not had soundness issues with her, but she is retiring with some old, set osselets. She has been wintered every year at the farm and is great in turnout with a group of mares. She does crib mildly at feedtime. She does not wear a collar to correct this as her trainer reports it is only at feedings and is not destructive. Trapper Jane is sired by Trappe Shot, who is a son of Tapit out of a Private Account mare. We have placed some Trappe Shot offspring who are very successful show hunters, dressage horses, and eventers or jumpers. Jane’s dam also brings good sport horse lines into the equation. Her dam is by Meadowlake, who is from the Hold Your Peace branch of the Prince John sire line, and her dam is out of a mare from the His Majesty sire line. This lovely girl is truly a barn “pet” who will be difficult to part with. Her trainer will tell you anything you would want to know about her. She comes from a shed rowof excellent caretakers and connections that feel strongly about responsible thoroughbred rehoming, so references will be checked. She would be a great RRP prospect for 2022!

ATSUI, 2019 16h dark bay gelding

ATSUI, 2019 16h Dark Bay Gelding
Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). This handsome gentleman has SO many things to love about him! He is a son of Japan, a Medaglia D’Oro son who is already proving himself to be an excellent sire of sport horses. His name is a clever combination of his sire’s name, and his dam’s Miss Sizzle, since Atsui means “thick” and “hot” in Japanese. He is a long-legged elegant looking young horse and is very light on his big feet. He has a nice uphill build, big feet, huge sloping shoulder, and gorgeous dapples! He was very quiet on this cold, wet, rainy day. He walked politely on a loose lead despite the yucky morning. He showed off a big, springy jog which made us think he would excel as a dressage or eventing horse. Certainly he could go in many directions. At only two years old, he will continue to grow and fill out more, so we think he will finish out as a pretty big guy. Since he’s only two, he would benefit from some time off to finish growing and be a horse before being restarted. He will be a clean slate in the Spring. After two races, in which he ran well back in the pack, his trainer realizes that racehorse is not the best career for him… but we think sport horse is an ideal new career. His sire Japan is from the Medaglia D’Oro/Sadler’s Wells sire line, and his dam is a granddaughter of Unbridled’s Song and Grand Slam — both outstanding sport horse sires as well, He will be eligible for RRP in 2022.

WOWSPELLEDBACKWARD, 2019 15.3h chestnut filly

WOW. Still WOW! Upside down? MOM! Even her name boasts how great she is! This adorable filly has one of the most pleasant demeanors that her connections have ever met. Even though she’s just 2, she reportedly just “always makes the right choices,” both around the barn and under saddle. They believe she could be a great pony horse or in any other task that requires a bombproof sensibility, because she’s wise well beyond her years. Her connections report she is totally sound and has no stall vices. She was a well-behaved angel for her photo session, on a cold and rainy day that had many horses leaping around. She showed very good movement for her jog video, with lightness and suspension and good hind end engagement. Based on how slow she trains, her connections feel that she’s not going to be much of a race horse, so it is bst to let he find her niche now. She will continue to grow and fill out. Like all two year olds, she would benefit from the winter off to finish growing and enjoying some time to “just be a horse”. She will be a blank slate in the spring to restart as you please! We think she is pretty bargain priced for such a lovely horse with unlimited potential for so many disciplines, and we suggest calling quickly on this one! She is by Shimmering Forest, who is by Eurosilver, who is by Unbridled’s Song. Her dam is by Fusaichi Pegasus mare. She will be eligible for RRP 2022.

FIFTY PLUS, 2014 16.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Fifty Plus is a handsome, dappled, solid bodied solid citizen with a great pedigree for jumping and other sport horse disciplines — offered at a bargain price! His owner/trainer says that he is sound, good to handle and to ride, has no vices, but he runs better on the synthetic surface at Presque Isle than on the hard dirt track at Finger Lakes. The Presque Isle meet has ended for 2021, and she realizes that now is the best time to move Fifty Plus on to a new career while he is still sound and happy. We admired Fifty’s kind intelligent eye, and his balanced solid bodied conformation, with a strong sloping shoulder and a big powerful hind end. He has proven to be an athletic durable horse, with 30 starts and 11 in the money finishes. For his jog video, he was very polite on a cold morning that had many other horses leaping around, and he showed a very nice trot with some loft and good engagement from behind. He is that perfect age where he is fully physically and mentally mature, has seen it all, and has a well-established work ethic and is ready to get right to work for you in his new career. He is by Courageous Cat, who is proving to be a sire of exceptional jumpers with good brains who are excelling in many sport horse disciplines from stadium jumping to eventing to hunters. His dam, Top Value, is a stakes producing daughter of Mineshaft, one of AP Indy’s top sons. His female family is full of durable, sound, stakes winners and stakes producers — so there is a lot of athletic class in his pedigree. He has raced five times this year, so he is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP. This is a very nice horse, and offered at a price level that one rarely sees anymore for sound athletic good moving geldings, so we think you should step right up for Fifty Plus!

BEL CUORE, 2016, 15.3+ bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). We’ve been told that Bel Cuore means “beautiful heart” in Italian, and this seems to be a very fitting name according to her connections! As soon as she stepped out of the barn, we started drooling over this pretty girl’s gorgeous dapples, and were captivated by her sweet face and kind eye. Her connections report that she is a very classy mare. She has great manners, is a favorite to ride, and has no stall vices. On this cold, windy, rainy day, she posed quietly for her pictures, walked around on a loose lead, and jogged very politely next to her handler. She has had a successful racing career earning over $97,000 in her 27 starts with 5 wins, 5 seconds, and 6 wins. Despite her success, her connections feel she will not be as competitive in the tougher racing conditions for which she is now eligible. They would like to move her on now to a different career, and they report she is retiring sound with no limitations. She is by Alpha out of a Grand Reward mare. Her sire Alpha won the Travers, and is a son of Bernardini, who is by AP Indy. Bernardini offspring are quite popular as jumpers, eventers, and dressage horses. Her dam sire Grand freward is a son of Serena’s Song, who is one of the greatest racemares of all time. So Bel Cuore certainly has royalty in her blood. She is another great prospect for RRP 2022!

FINANCIAL DRAW, 2018, 16.2h, Chestnut Gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
This handsome gelding is what everyone is looking for: A big, young, sound, good moving and very well put together gelding with a mellow mind and a great sport horse pedigree! He struck our volunteers as having the sweetness and maturity of a wise old soul, yet he’s young enough to have the spark necessary to take his new owners on new adventures in any discipline for many years. Our volunteers admired his uphill build, strong shoulder, nice topline, and easy going demeanor. On this cold, wet, rainy day, he didn’t move a foot out of place and jogged very politely for his handler. He showed a nice flowing walk and a lovely trot with reach and lightness. His connections report he is well mannered to both groom and ride. He also is reported to be a big fan of turnout and the farm life. They report he is retiring sound, he’s just too slow to be a racehorse. He has no stall vices. He is lightly raced with only 9 starts (earning $11,000 with 1 win and 1 third). He is sired by Micromanage, who is a young son of Medaglia D’Oro from the fabled Sadlers’ Wells sire line — this is often rated as the very best sire line for sporting jumping disciplines. His dam, Buck Stops Here, is a daughter of Defer, who is a son of Danzig. She also has Damascus and Buckpasser in her pedigree. He could grow a bit more and will definitely fill out off the track, so we think he will be a pretty big guy. So run to the bank and make the FInancial Draw to add this special young guy to your account!

SAVAGE FREEDOM, 2019 16 h dark bay filly

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Savage Freedom’s connections report she lovingly goes by “Lady”, as there is nothing savage about her. They report she is super sweet, but very very slow on the track. She was super well behaved during her photo shoot; you’d never know she is just a baby! She has no stall vices and is retiring completely sound according to her connections. They did note she has a very small splint under her right knee which is cold and hard and has never bothered her. She is not yet raced, but has official workouts, so she will be eligible for RRP 2022. Her connections report she was slightly nervous when she arrived and although she has improved significantly, she does not like having her back feet shod. She is fine for picking feet, but she requires mild tranq in order to shoe her hind feet. They feel this will improve as she gets older and gets more used to this, especially on a farm. Like any two-year-old, we think she could benefit from some time to grow and be a horse over the winter. When you restart in the spring, she will be a blank slate. She is likely to grow more and fill out, so she could be a big girl when all is said and done. Savage Freedom is sired by Travers winner Golden Ticket, who is by Speightstown out of a Deputy Minister mare. Her dam is by Include, a Broad Brush son who is well known for producing very kind laid back horses with athleticism. She also has Gone West, Relaunch, Hail to Reason, and Halo in her pedigree — some of the best sport horse lines.

FORECASTER, 2016 15.3h Chestnut Gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY.
As we were waiting in the shedrow to see who was going to be pulled out, our volunteers were secretly hoping it would be the adorable gelding with the flashy face, and sure enough it was. His trainer reported that Forecaster is the “easiest going horse you’ll find”. He is reported to be well mannered to work around, easy in his stall, and good for his riders. We were told he is good in turnout and loves the farm life. He showed very nice, even movement for his jog video. Unfortunately, these great qualities haven’t helped him be much of a superstar on the race track. He has earned $33,000 in his 31 starts with 3 wins and 6 seconds. We think he could go in many directions, and he will certainly turn heads wherever he goes with all that white! He has a most enticing pedigree for sporting disciplines. His sire is Mission Impazible, a son of Unbridled’s Song out of a Hold Your Peace mare. Mission Impazible is known for getting horses with great brains, kind and willing, who are good jumpers and good movers. We get so many messages from people who have Mission Impazible offspring asking us to let them know when others become available, because they love their Mission Impazible horses so much! Forecaster’s dam is by Dehere, who is from Deputy Minister and Secretariat lines. Forecaster is fully eligible for RRP 2022, and we would love to see him strut his stuff there!

BENNY AND ALEX, 2013 16.2h grey gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY.  Hello gorgeous! This guy certainly got our attention with his chiseled Arab-like head, dazzling dapples, strong shoulder and solid boned conformation. Benny is one of his trainer’s all time favorite horses, and she admits it will be hard to part with her adored beauty, but she also knows that it is in his best interest to acknowledge that his best racing years are behind him. His trainer says he is sound and she emphasized that while he gets a bit strong at the track, on her farm when he is getting turn out he is just a “good, good guy” who mellows out. She has had him on her farm during the last four winters and she said he is just a pleasure to work with and he is good in turn out with other horses. She does report that he needs to be the first horse out in the morning as he gets very impatient. He has a strong preference for being the first horse fed in the barn as well! His trainer reports that he is a peppermint hound and his new home should be prepared with lots of mints for him! Benny showed very good movement for his jog video, with a flowing walk, and strong push from behind that suggests to us that eventing and dressage might be ideal new careers for him. Benny has had 69 starts with 30 top three finishes and over $112,000 in earnings, so he has shown his heart and durability… and he’s eligible for the war horse awards at the RRP Makeover. He has a great sport horse pedigree. His sire, Here Comes Ben, is by Street Cry out of a Danzig and Halo line mare. Benny’s dam is by Royal Academy, a son of Nijinsky, and is out of a daughter of Grey Dawn. Benny’s tail female line is the famous La Troienne mare line, the best in the US TB stud book. Big sound grey geldings tend to be very popular offerings, so don’t hesitate if you are interested in making Benny and Alex your new sport horse star!

HEY RED, 2018 16.1h chestnut filly

Hey Frost Giant fans — this lovely young daughter of that coveted eventing sire is calling your name! And to add to her sport horse appeal, her damsire is Big Brown. Red’s connections report that this sweet girl is retiring completely sound. After breaking her maiden, she has not shown any promising signs of a winning racing career, so they feel it’s best to move her onto another job. She has earned about $15,000 in her 11 starts with one win and two seconds. Racing’s loss is your gain! Her connections report that she is super sweet and has great manners in her stall. She can be strong working around the track, but they feel that this would not be an issue on the farm with some turnout. Although she was a bit up on a cold rainy morning for her jog video, she showed very good movement, with hind engagement and push from behind, and lightness up front. Frost Giant, is deservedly popular as a sport horse sire, since he seems to produce athletic horses who are good movers and scopey bold jumpers, who excel in sporting careers. Other prominent sport horse sire lines in her pedigree include Gone West, Rahy/Blushing Groom, Danzig, and Nureyev. We think this filly is quite a bargain and will sell quickly, so don’t delay if she checks the boxes for you! She will be eligible for RRP 2022.

MAYBE A RAINBOW, 2017 15.2+h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Adorable Rainbow in her rainbow halter has won her trainer’s heart, but she is looking towards the upcoming end of the meet and realizes that it would be best if Rainbow moves on from racing.  The owner/trainer claimed Rainbow earlier this summer and placed her into higher class races where she wasn’t competitive, so she asked us to list her adored filly. But then just a few days after her photo session, Rainbow was entered into a racing level at which she is competitive, and she won!  But then, unfortunately, in a race on October 26, she came back sore in her knee, and has been diagnosed with chips in a knee. X-rays are available.  The trainer reports that the vet recommends approximately three months of stall rest to let the knee heal, and then Rainbow should be suitable for lower level activities, pleasure and trail riding, and flat work. Rainbow is so pretty and flashy with her nearly black coat and chrome, and her owner/trainer reports that she is very sweet and great to work with and has no vices.  She also says that Rainbow is great to ride and does what she is asked. For her jog video she showed even flat kneed movement. Her trainer thinks the filly could be a great all around horse for someone who wants to have fun with a loveable horse.  Maybe A Rainbow has an excellent sport horse pedigree. She is by Soaring Empire, who is by Empire Maker out of an AP Indy mare.  Her dam is by Include, from Broad Brush/Stop the Music/Halo lines, and is out of an Honor and Glory mare form the Relaunch/In Reality line. In our experience, these sire lines have produced good brained ammy friendly horses with jumping aptitude. Thus, a sport horse broodmare is also an option for Maybe a Rainbow.

FIVE STAR BUNT, 2015 17h bay gelding

Located at a farm in Victor NY, near the Finger Lakes Race Track.
He is indeed five stars in the looks department! This stunning huge gelding has lovely balanced conformation and solid bone, and a strong sloping shoulder. His trainer reports that he is sound, good to handle and ride, and has no vices. His racing record shows his class: he has 32 starts, with 4 wins, 3 seconds, 3 thirds, and over $200,000 in earnings. But he is slowing down this year, with fewer racing conditions for which he is eligible, and no wins in 6 starts, although he has run second and third. So his owner/trainer thinks it is a good time to move him on to a sport horse career. He is a nice light and balanced mover with hints of suspension in his jog video. We photographed him at his owner’s farm right after he was brought over there from the track, and while he was extremely interested in the turned out horses running and whinnying to greet him, he responded to his trainer and stood politely for his photographs. The trainer reports that at some point over two years ago, before they claimed him, he had tie back surgery, but it has not affected his racing, and exercise riders report that he makes no noise while galloping. He has an excellent pedigree for sport disciplines. His sire Posse is from the Deputy Minister line, out of a mare from Rahy/Blushing Groom and Roberto lines; Posse has sired many horses who have excelled in jumping and eventing disciplines. His dam Skye Castles is by Sky Classic out of a mare from Polish Navy/Danzig, and Seattle Slew lines. A big gorgeous good moving gelding like Five Star Bunt is what everyone says they want, so we urge you to act fast if you are seriously interested.

MUSICAL THUNDER, 2017 16h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

While she may be a plain bay, there is a lot to catch the eye with this lovely filly.  She is very pretty with a kind eye and beautiful head, and she has a balanced build and strong shoulder and clean legs.  She has lovely balanced movement with a nice flowing trot. Her trainer says she is a friendly and kind horse, a good girl to handle and gallop  and he says she has no vices.  She has had 16 starts without any top 3 finishes, so racing is obviously not where her aptitude lies. Her trainer says she shows good early speed and then fades. He says she has scoped completely clean, and she has been sound with clean legs. She has excellent breeding, sired by young top sire Macleans Music (from the Distorted Humor sire line) out of a Thunder Gulch mare.  Our experience with this pedigree is that these sire lines produce horses with good ammy friendly brains who are good jumpers.   This lovely filly could go in any direction.  We can see her doing local hunter shows, lower level eventing, hunter paces, dressage, and providing her new person with all around fun.

LA REINE ROUGE, 2016 16.1h chestnut filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Presenting The Red Queen – indeed a regal chestnut girl. Known as “Holly” to her connections, who bred her, still own her dam, train her and ride her in races, they want to exemplify the utmost responsibility as breeders: always being able to know where their beloved horse is and being able to have a say in her future. Consequently, they are offering La Reine Rouge for either a lease situation with insurance, or a co-ownership arrangement. Holly is a daughter of the great Big Brown, who is from the Danzig sire line, and is proving to be a sire of good sport horses, with good brains. After ten races in which she has yet to finish in the top three, it is obvious that Holly is not cut out to be a racehorse, but we think she has royal potential for sporting disciplines. Holly’s handler – who is her co-owner and breeder with her mother, and who gallops and rides Holly in her races, told us that the mare is very sound, and is good to handle and ride, is very athletic, and has no vices. She thinks that Holly will excel in eventing or jumping or as a show hunter. Holly has a strong sloping shoulder and strong hind end, and she has a beautiful elegant head and intelligent eye. Her handler attests that she is an intelligent mare. She showed lovely movement for her jog video, with a big trot step and flat kneed reach from her shoulders. Her handler said they could just keep her and turn her out on their farm over the winter, but that they feel she is far too athletic with such great sport horse potential to just go do nothing on the farm. In light of the owner/breeder’s wishes to keep involved in Holly’s ownership so as to insure that she is always safe and well cared for, this mare might present an ideal situation for a teen working with a trainer, who knows that in a few years they will go off to college and cannot keep their horse; in such a situation they would not have to worry about having to sell the horse, because her original owner/breeder will always be there to take her back.

SAVARELLI, 2018 16.1h dark bay filly

Located at a farm in Victor NY very close to the Finger Lakes Race Track
When our volunteer saw this big boned solid horse in her stall being brushed, she wondered what a warmblood was doing on a TB farm! Imagine her surprise when the trainer brought the horse out and said it was a 3 yo filly. This nearly black filly is going to be a big one when she finishes growing, and she obviously has a good appetite. Savarelli is unraced, and she did train at the track, but demonstrated that she was too slow to try to race. She has been back at the farm for over a month, enjoying turn out. On the day we saw her, she had been turned out with a yearling, who must have kicked her, because she had a still warm hematoma on her chest that the trainer said had not been there the day before. We felt it and it was soft, and Savarelli did not react at all when we felt it. So the lump you can see on her chest in the photos is just a temporary thing that will soon go away (if it hasn’t already in the days between taking her photos and posting her). The trainer reports that Savarelli is good to handle, has no vices, and is an easy keeper. She is currently barefoot, and has nice big feet. She displayed beautiful movement jogging on the grass at the farm. She has a flowing walk with an overstep, and a light balanced trot with reach that is fancy enough to do well in the hunter ring or in dressage. She has an excellent sport horse pedigree. Her sire is Archarcharch, a son of Arch who is from Roberto and Danzig lines. Her dam Sweetonrich is a stakes winner, from Secretariat, Nureyev and Wavering Monarch lines. This black beauty is a blank slate to restart for any new discipline.

LOGSDON, 2016 15.3h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Plain bay fans — this very handsome gelding is for you! He has an elegant pretty head and kind eye, is a very good mover, has balanced and solid bodied conformation with a strong shoulder and hind end, and is described as a quiet and well behaved kind horse who is easy to handle. His handler reports that he is sound, and his legs are clean. Logsdon did have tie back surgery when he was younger, and we were told that he does not make any noise and has no breathing issues. He has raced 12 times this year, so he is obviously durable and a worker. He has raced 27 times, with 3 wins and 4 additional in the money finishes. We think Logsdon has the show hunter conformation and looks, quiet attitude, and flowing movement to excel in the hunter ring, but he can go in any direction you want for a new career. He is sired by Adios Charlie, who is from the Caro sire line. His dam is by Teuflesberg, from Hennessy and Halo lines, and is out of a mare by Montbrook, from the Buckpasser line. These are excellent sport horse lines, all known for good dispositions, movement, and jumping ability.

“Outta Sight,” aka “Pony” 2017 16.1h chestnut gelding

Outta Sight” aka “Pony”, 2017 16.1h chestnut gelding
Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This solid bodied unraced young guy is a beautiful light and lofty mover who we think can excel in many new careers — he has the laid back attitude to be a show hunter, the sport horse pedigree to be aimed at eventing or dressage, and he is used as a track pony in western tack and his trainer thinks he would make a great western dressage or trail or pleasure horse. He has solid bone, a strong hind end, good angles, and a balanced build. He already has the body of a non-race horse, and needs no let down time off the track. He is not registered or tattooed, and he has never had any published track workouts, due to a previous owner who was retiring from racing. His current connections use him to pony young horses that they are starting, and he is also used as an outrider horse in the mornings on the training track. Both of these jobs require an unflappable horse who takes everything in stride. His connections refer to him by two nicknames — “Pony” because that is what he does for them, and “Outta Sight” because his stall is down at the end of their shed row past their stalls. They report that Pony is a friendly horse, easy to handle, and lovely to ride. He does his track pony work in a western saddle, and he has learned to neck rein; over the past winter he accompanied his track connections to Florida and he was ridden on trail rides. They report that Pony has always been sound for the entire time they have had him. They are offering this lovely young gelding to a non track home where he can enjoy a new career because they are not likely to have enough for him to do over the winter, and they think he has too much potential to just sit around with them. His sire comes from Deputy Minister and Blushing Groom lines, and his dam is by Catienus, who has sired several successful show hunters, jumpers, and eventers.

LANDYNONTHEMOON, 2017 16.1h dark bay filly

LANDYNONTHEMOON, 2017 16.1h dark bay filly
Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Those of you who are aficionados of ideal sport horse breeding will truly appreciate this very pretty, still growing, young lightly raced daughter of Japan — a Medaglia D’Oro son whose offspring aren’t much on the racetrack but are already coveted in the eventing and jumping world. We often get messages from people who have a Japan sired horse , asking us to please let them know when another comes up –well here she is! Landynonthemoon’s photos and video do not do her justice. We photographed her on a cold windy morning just three days after she had raced, and since that race she had just walked the shed row in the barn until she was brought out into the blustery gusts. And to further undermine the conditions for our photo shoot, as soon as her groom brought her out, someone entered a metal shed nearby and started making banging and clanging noises… and from the filly’s perspective (and ours) it was as if that big red metal thing had just turned into a loud scary monster. Despite all this, Landynonthemoon stood quietly and alertly for her groom, but admittedly she could not jog quietly anywhere near the clanging red metal monster…. but the video certainly shows her athleticism! The assistant trainer, who is the contact person, says that since Landyn had been in her barn, she has been very good to handle, quite nice and obedient to ride for morning exercise. and has no bad habits or vices. She also reports that Landyn is sound, with clean legs, and is a good eater. But she is a slow race horse… after only three races, in which she has trailed the field, it is obvious that racing is not where her aptitude lies. If Landyn is anything like the other Japan offspring we have placed over the last couple of years, she will, however, turn out to be a star in sporting disciplines. She is bred to run long on the turf, and thus far Japan’s offspring have immediately taken to dressage, eventing, and jumping disciplines. She represents on of North American buyers’ last chances to get a Japan offspring as a sport horse, since the stallion was exported to South America, where the racing is better suited to his tendency to produce turf horses with stamina. As noted, her sire Japan is by Medaglia D’Oro, who is from the great sport horse sire line of El Prado/Sadler’s Wells, and is out of a Seattle Slew line mare. Landyn’s dam is from Gone West, Unbridled’s Song, and Damascus sire lines. Landyn is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP — and we would love to root for her there next year in numerous disciplines –eventing, jumpers, or dressage come to mind.

Inhonorofowenjr, 2017 16h bay filly — retained for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This flashy girl will have heads turning wherever you go! Inhonorofowenjr has had a successful year, hitting the board in half of her 12 starts this meet with 1 win, 2 seconds, and 3 thirds, but her trainers think its time to move her onto her next career! Inhonorofowenjr is described as super sweet and well mannered. They report she is great to work around, not marish, and is the barn “princess”. She loves to be brushed and pampered. Her connections report she has been turned out for winters and is well behaved in turnout. They report she has no stall vices. On a cold, blustery morning, she was super quiet, never moving an inch unless prompted to. She seems to enjoy the attention and pets and was friendly with our photographer. Her trainers report that she is retiring sound with some ankle rounding. They would love to see her go somewhere that she could have a relaxing winter to unwind and be a horse before being restarted in her second career. With her nonchalant attitude, we think she could be a super fun project to get going in the spring! She will also be eligible for RRP 2022! She is by Csaba, who is a son of Kitten’s Joy, and out of a Double Honor (Gone West sire line) mare.

LOOK OUT JAYCE, 2017 16.1h dark bay gelding

Named after one of the trainer’s sons, this flashy young gelding certainly checks all the boxes of what everyone says they want: young, beautiful, sound, a sweetheart who can be handled by the assistant trainer’s young kids, good movement, and a great sport horse pedigree. He was gelded about three weeks before we phtographed him, and the assistant trainer who showed him to us said that even before he was gelded he was a very sensible well behaved horse, but that since he was gelded he has proven to be a lovebug who her kids walk to and from the walking machines. She says he loves attention and treats including peppermints and carrots, and has no vices or bad habits. She also reports that he is sound, and we observed clean legs. We were impressed with all that he has handled in the last month: being gelded, and then racing just two days before we photographed him — and he is bright eyed, friendly, and happy with life. Indeed, rather than showing any ill effects from a recent race, he showed good energy on a chilly morning, with nice forward fluid movement with good reach from the shoulders. He has 16 starts, with one win and three seconds. In his 9 races this year, he has just one second place finish, so his connections realize that he just isn’t going to be a successful racehorse at the level of competition he is eligible for. But we think he can be a very successful sport horse, and he is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP. He is sired by Lookin at Lucky, a champion son of Smart Strike, who has sired durable athletic horses with heart and “try.” His dam is by Freud, another sire known for good brained, good moving, good jumping sport horses.

GUERRERON, 2016 16.1h dark bay gelding

Known as “Geo” around the barn, this big handsome horse struck us as very elegant, intelligent, and athletic. His trainer confirmed all those impressions. She says he is sensible, kind, very smart, and good to handle, “a really cool horse,” and that her young daughter has sat on him. He is described as sound, and for his jog video he showed very good balanced movement, even though he had just raced two days before we saw him. His trainer says that he was a bit tight after his race, and that he moves with even more fluidity and loft when he has not just raced. He has 36 starts with 4 wins, 6 seconds, and 7 thirds, so he obviously has heart and a good work ethic. He has raced and won this uyear so he is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP. His trainer reports that over the winter, he got sick and when he was not feeling well he occasionally cribbed on the feed tub, but now that he is fully healthy, at the track he has rarely shown any signs of cribbing. She also reports that at the farm over the winter he turned out well with other horses. Geo is sired by Revolutionary, who is by War Pass from the Runaway Groom/Blushing Groom sire line. Revolutionary is out of an AP Indy mare. Guerreron’s dam is by Flatter, who is known as a sire who gets horses with fantastic brains and talent, and out of a Grand Slam mare. He has a great sport horse pedigree for sure. We think he is an excellent sport horse prospect for eventing, jumping, dressage.

COLONIAL LASS, 2014 16h+ bay mare

This beautiful sweet, and flashy mare is a half sister, out of the same dam, as 3 wonderful horses we helped place over the past two years into great homes — Excavator, Butterfly Girl, and Hurricane Andy. All 3 of her siblings are quiet, kind, and sweet with great brains and athletic aptitude. Excavator and Butterfly Girl are taking to eventing and dressage like stars, and Andy is a trail partner par excellence. So we can attest that Lass comes from the best of families, both horse and human, and if she is anything like her siblings she is going to be your sweetest best friend and beloved partner for so many disciplines. Our volunteer who took her photos was head over heels in love with this sweet girl. Her connections report she is a barn favorite and a wonderful home is an absolute must, as she deserves to be loved and pampered always! She is retiring after 32 lifetime starts with 5 wins, 7 seconds, and 7 thirds. She hit the board in 6 of her 9 starts this year, but her connections feel its time to let her move onto a second career where she will really thrive. They report that she is great to work with, very quiet, and gentle. She seemed like a wise old soul during our photo shoot, never putting a foot out of place on a windy, rainy, cold day that had some horses feeling their oats. Her connections report she has no stable vices. They report she has been sound on some old, set ankle osselets. She was stiff from a recent race when we saw her, so we will get a video on our next trip to the track when she can really strut her stuff. We could see her being a good choice for an amateur or someone venturing into the OTTB world to restart with the assistance of a professional. She will be eligible for RRP 2022. She is by Courageous Cat out of Crashing Through, who is by Señor Speedy mare. Courageous Cat is well known for siring great jumpers (his offspring did quite well in jumping disciplines at the recently concluded RRP Mega makeover!).

HEY LADY, 2013 16.2h dark bay mare

Located on a farm in Shortsville, NY near the Finger Lakes Race Track
Hey gorgeous lady!  This big, beautiful mare who could easily be a warmblood imposter,  has been off the track for a couple of years, and she is lightly restarted with basic flat work.  Her owner, who also handles a full racing string with her track trainer husband, had plans to make Hey Lady her own personal dressage and eventing horse, and take her to the RRP.  But the realities of full-time work at the track and on the farm with dozens of other horses in race training or breeding have made those plans unrealistic for her, and she realizes that Hey Lady is way too nice a sport horse prospect to just be a pasture pet on their farm. So she is offering her beloved mare, who she has had since she was a yearling, in the hope that Hey Lady will be someone else’s dressage and eventing partner. Hey Lady is a  big and forward-thinking mover, so her owner thinks she will be best suited for an experienced rider working with a trainer. The owner raved about what an amazing feeling it is to ride Hey Lady’s “gorgeous trot — big and powerful and floating over the ground.” She says she rides Hey Lady in a loose ring snaffle; while she has primarily done basic flat work with her, she has occasionally introduced cavaletti and small cross rails, and Hey Lady has handled them without batting an eye.  Hey Lady is described as a mare who loves to be groomed, who loves her peppermint treats, who is good for everything — the mounting block, the farrier, cross ties, loading and trailering. She is currently barefoot and has good feet.  She retired sound from the track after 11 starts, with one win and 7 top three finishes at the allowance and maiden special weight level — so she had some racing class and ability. Her owner reports that she has mild ankle rounding from old small set osselets, and that she was never unsound on them. Hey Lady has an excellent sport horse pedigree. She is by Discreetly Mine, who is by Mineshaft (AP Indy) out of a Private Account mare.  Her dam is by Giant’s Causeway.

IWILLBEFIRST, 2013 15.2h gray mare

Located at Finger Lakes Rac Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
While the pretty gray mare has lived up to her name only once in 27 races, we think she can be first in many other disciplines, and in your heart.  She is a homebred who has been with her owner since birth, so you can get her entire history. While we were getting her listing information from her owner, we were told a touching story about her history.  She was born while her dam was turned out in a pasture, at an unexpected time. When the owner went to bring the dam in from turnout, he noticed a little gray face and ears peeking up from the tall grass. The newborn foal was too wobbly on her feet to walk in from the pasture, so he picked her up in his arms and carried her into the barn. Now, to this day, she looks to cuddle up to him as her surrogate parent. Once she bonds with her new off the track person, you too can be that armful of mutual love.  Her owner reports that she is sound, has never had any soundness issues, and that she is good to handle, good for the farrier, good to trailer, and turns out well with other horses as a follower type who stays out of trouble. He says that she enjoys life on the farm much more than the track, and at the farm she is a very settled and loving sweetheart.  At the track, on a warm day with bees buzzing around her and wind gusts swirling, she was antsy for her photos and jog video, but still we could see very nice movement.  She is a beautiful mare, with clean legs and big solid feet. Her sire is Cosmonaut, a son of Lemon Drop Kid, who has made a name for himself as a sport horse sire.  Her dam is by Tomorrow’s Cat, a Storm Cat son. She has 27 starts, with one win, 3 seconds, and 6 third place finishes.  7 of her races are this year, so she is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP. We think that Iwillbfirst is an ideal prospect for a smaller adult, or for a teen working with a trainer, who wants to do lower level eventing and jumping, go on hunter paces and trail rides, or even try barrel racing, and have all around fun with a versatile horse.

CONSTRUCT, 2015 16.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This regally bred son of the great Curlin sold for $200,000 as a yearling — and with his great uphill conformation, beautiful flowing movement, and kind temperament, it is easy to see why.  As we were waiting by his stall for his trainer to get him ready for his photos, she told us that he is a super friendly, cuddly treat hound.  We experienced this firsthand, as Construct snuggled his head into our arms, soaked up our pats, and beseeched us to open the container of peppermints on the ground near his stall.  When Construct came out into the sun for his photos, we were struck by his dapples, his excellent conformation with a strong sloping shoulder and uphill build. And when he moved, the wow factor continued — he showed off a big strided flowing walk, and a balanced, light lofty trot with great reach from the shoulders.  His movement is good enough to shine in the hunter ring, or in dressage, and he certainly could be an excellent eventing or jumping prospect. His trainer reports that he is very professional under saddle, does what the rider asks, and has a great work ethic. She also reports that he is sound and clean legged, and has had no issues in the 3 years she has had him. He is ready to move on to a new career because, with 4 wins, including one this year, there are few race conditions at Finger Lakes for which he is eligible.  This guy checks all the boxes of what everyone says they are looking for, so don’t hesitate if you are seriously interested.

BEST SURPRISE, 2014 16.1+h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
If you are doing a double take at this lovely guy’s name, it is because we listed his doppleganger, by the same sire, earlier this year — that horse was named “Best Surprise Ever”.  While the connections of these two bay sons of Giant Surprise can get into a tussle over which one truly deserves the “ever” after “Best Surprise,” we can tell you this horse, like the previously listed one, is very sweet with a great temperament, and is equally handsome with a great sport horse pedigree.  The trainer kept raving about Best Surprise:  ” such a good boy,”; “just a great horse to be around and work with.” She reports that he is a sweetheart who loves treats and attention, and that her young kids love him and he returns the affection (as the photo of a young girl kissing with Best Surprise attests!). She reports that he had a suspensory strain in the past, but that it healed and has not affected his racing career or overall health and happiness.  He has 33 starts, with 5 wins, and 13 additional in the money finishes. But this year, in 8 races, with only three third place finishes to his credit, his trainer observes that “racing doesn’t seem to be his thing anymore.” He had last raced just over three weeks prior to our photo session, and in the interim had done nothing but walk the shedrow since they had decided it was time to retire him. So when he came out into the sunshine for his jog video, he was on the “up” side, excited to be outside and asked to move out.  We saw flashes of fancy movement… and some bonus canter strides, where he dropped back on to his hind end and was very light up front.  This lovebug can go in many directions for his new career — sport horse, hunter pace and trail partner…. because of his friendly loving personality, his trainer thinks that he would be a great match for a horse besotted teenage girl who wants a horse she can cuddle and have riding adventures with –but of course who has an OTTB experienced trainer to work with.  Best Surprise is by Giant Surprise, who is a son of Giant’s Causeway out of an AP Indy mare. His dam is by Three Wonders, who is by Storm Cat.

SIMMA CUM LAUDE, 2015 16.1+h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Simma’s handler described this handsome, well-built guy as “such a neat horse, sweet as pie.” We admired his clean legs, strong shoulder, kind eye and friendly personality.  He showed off a big step with a strong push from behind in his jog video.  In his last race in September, Simma took in a lot of dirt kickback, and came up with a throat infection.  He was diagnosed with arytenoid chondritis, an inflammation of the arytenoid cartilage.  He has been treated with antiobiotics and a throat wash, and it is now nearly all resolved. His handler reports that he has remained happy and bright, and has never made a noise while racing or working.    This condition has an excellent prognosis; if it does flare up in the future it can be treated with antibiotics and a throat wash, as it currently is successfully. The trainer will be happy to discuss further with you or your vet. Simma has raced 26 times, with 3 wins and 6 additional in the money finishes.  He has 4 races this year, so he is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP. His pedigree is stamina and turf-oriented with many top sport horse lines.  His sire is Simmard, a son of Dixieland Band who won long distance turf stakes races. His dam is by Successful Appeal from the Valid Appeal/In Reality line.  Deputy Minister, Spectacular Bid, Stage Door Johnny, Nijinsky are other prominent stamina/sport lines in his pedigree.

RATCHET, 2017 15.3h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
What a handsome hunk!  Ratchet is solidly built with great uphill conformation, a strong shoulder, and clean legs.  He is bred to run all day on the turf , so perhaps it is not surprising that in his 8 races at sprint distances he has only a lone third place finish to his credit.  While he may have been miscast for racing at sprint and dirt oriented tracks, we think he has outstanding potential for sport careers.  He is powerfully built, and is a forward thinking horse with a lot of go, so we recommend an experienced rider looking for an upper level partner.  His handler described him as having no vices; he said that Ratchet benefits from a steady work program.  We took his photos and video 4 days after a workout, and he had just been walking the shedrow in the intervening 4 days, and he came out of the barn full of life.  If Ratchet goes to a home where he gets turnout and a regular program, we think he will blossom.  And his pedigree just screams upper level sport horse who will go all day on cross country. and jump huge obstacles. His sire, Americain, who is by Dynaformer, was a superstar stayer in Australia, winning the world’s most famous long distance turf race, the 2 mile long Melbourne Cup. Americain is already making his mark as a steeplechase sire. Ratchet’s dam is by leading European turf sire Invincible Spirit, from the Danzig sire line.  Other top sport horse sires in his pedigree include Roberto, Hail to Reason, Blushing Groom, Nijinsky, In Reality. When we took Ratchet’s jog video, he did not have back shoes, since his last race was on the synthetic surface at Presque Isle, and hind shoes are not recommended for that surface.  Although up, and lacking hind shoes, and jogging on pavement, he showed some very good lofty movement with power and reach.

DESERT TONE, 2017 15.3+h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Beautiful, sweet, good to handle, very well bred, lightly raced with unlimited potential for any new discipline! Desert Tone, who cost $75,000 as a yearling, sure does check a lot of boxes…. and she is offered at an enticing bargain price as well.  Desert Tone draws you in with her pretty face and friendly kind temperament, and she posed like a model for our photo session.  Her groom said she was very good to handle with no vices.  She had been confined for a couple of weeks to resolve a foot abscess, and even though she had done nothing while still getting full racehorse rations, she was very respectful and good to handle for her jog video — a sure sign that she is sensible and kind.  She showed athleticism and good movement.  She is described as sound, and her legs are clean.  After just 6 races with no wins, it is evident that racing is not Desert Tone’s aptitude, but we think she could make a great sport horse.  She is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP, and we would love to see someone get her who will aim her there and show her off. She is by Tonalist, a Belmont  Stakes winning son of Tapit out of a Pleasant Colony mare. These AP Indy/Pleasant Colony/Ribot lines are great for sport.  Her dam is by Outflanker, who is by Danzig out of an Alydar mare.  This is a truly lovely young filly, who will likely mature to at least 16h, with great potential, available at a rare bargain price.  We think she will be quite popular, so we advise calling quickly.

JET SET CAT, 2009 16.1h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
If ever there is a warhorse to wrap your heart around, this is your guy! Jet Set Cat is a friendly beloved pet, has a huge heart and work ethic, and is as sturdy as they come. He is remarkably sound and clean legged after 106 lifetime starts with 7 wins, 9 seconds and 12 thirds, notching over $168, 000 in earnings on clean, sturdy legs. Indeed, he has some of the cleanest, most blemish “track jewelry” free legs we have seen in many years of listing horses from this track! He is so well balanced, and such a lofty light mover with a beautiful rhythm — his lightness and efficiency of movement are part of the reason why he is so sound.  Jet Set Cat will not be eligible to race any more next year, so his owner/trainer must reluctantly part with their beloved guy, since they have no facility at which they could keep him as a pasture pet, and they know he has so much more to give in a new career. His handler/owner told us that he is a wonderful horse to work with, with zero vices or bad habits and 100% work ethic. We admired his kind eye and beautiful conformation with an elegant neck nicely tied into his strong shoulder. Cat‘s riders love him for his manners on the track and his beautiful movement, which remains as balanced and lofty as we observed when we first listed him as a younger fellow 6 years ago for a former trainer. Cat lost an eye when he was a baby, and he is very well adapted to life as a one-eyed horse. His trainer says it has never caused him any issues, and that he is not spooky because of it.  Since he has raced over 100 times in this condition, moving around in tight packs of horses, with loud noises all around him, we know that Cat is unflappable and can do anything — and that no one should pass him by for want of an eye. Trust us — this is a wonderful horse, beautiful, sweet, wise, kind, a beautiful mover, and he will be able to do anything.  DO NOT let baseless prejudices against older horses, or those with physical blemishes that do not affect their heart, movement, kindness, brain, and aptitude, cause you to pass on Jet Set Cat.  He is a true gem, with his boundless athleticism and soundness, good looks and hardiness, and wonderful temperament. Cat has a lot left in his tank — and he is everything that people say they want in an OTTB regardless of age. We are confident that he is going to outlast and outperform those younger, not as talented and not as wise and durable horses that get all the attention.

BEACH PRINCESS, 2013 16h bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester

This beautiful and classy mare has been lovingly cared for by her connections for 6 years and is a beloved member of the shedrow. Princess impressed us as a beautifully conformed mare with a solid build that has served her well in her successful racing career. She is reported to be sound and we observed clean legs all around. Princess was very dignified during her meet and greet with us, standing quietly on a loose lead as we chatted with her handler (who is very fond of this mare and will miss her!). She is of the opinion that Princess should have an experienced rider. She says Princess on some days can be “sweet as pie” and on other days doesn’t want to interact. We got to see the super sweet personality! Her handler (who also gallops Princess) also states that the mare has a big heart and will give you everything that is asked of her — again, a testament to her race record and hardiness. Princess has 44 lifetime starts with 8 wins, 7 seconds and 9 thirds with $137,000 inearnings and she still has a lot in her tank. Showing lovely, balanced movement at the walk and jog on a loose lead, Princess could go in just about any direction in her post-racing career.  She is by Alex’s Pal, who is from the Valid Appeal/In Reality sire line; her dam Beach Barbicue is by Tabasco Cat out of an Unbridled mare.

SISTER MARY MONEY, 2018 15.3+ bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (near Rochester) This still growing, young, sweet girl is just too slow to persist in a racing career — in her three starts she has shown no aptitude for racing –and her trainer would like her to move on to a new career where her athleticism and movement can shine. She is reported sound, easy to work with and around with no vices. Our volunteers noted that she was very quiet as she posed for her pictures, and very respectful of her handler. She is barefoot behind and still demonstrated a lofty jog with a flat kneed reach from the shoulders and an over tracking walk. After her jog, she settled right in, happily chewing on some grass on a loose lead. She has unlimited potential for a sport horse career, and once she finishes growing and fills out she will be impressive. Sister Mary Money is by Beautyinthepulpit, a son of the desirable sport horse sure Pulpit from the AP Indy line, out of a Deputy Minister mare. Mary’s dam is a grandaughter of Bold Ruckus and Nijinsky. If you’re looking for a lovely, young, lightly raced filly with great sport horse potential, Sister Mary Money may be the girl for you.
