GOT TO LIKE IT, 2015 15.3+h bay gelding

It’s always a good sign when a horse is a handler favorite.  Got to Like It’s connections had nothing but glowing reviews for this boy.  He stood very quietly for his photo shoot and jogged politely on a loose lead. We admired his big stocky build and enjoyed his kisses and cuddles he readily handed out. His connections report he is super kind and a very people oriented horse.  He aims to please and has a gentle temperament.  They reported he has been around children and dogs-even having a dog in his stall while grooming this past winter. At the farm, he is reported to turn out well with other horses. His connections report he has no stall vices and has never had any soundness issues.  He sounds like the total package and a barn dream!  His connections are quite attached to this guy, so the best of homes is a must. They will want references to ensure he is going to a great home who will love him as much as they do. In his 36 starts, Like It has 2 wins, 5 seconds, and 4 thirds. He is by Bold Warrior out of an E Dubai mare. He will be eligible for RRP.

FABLE’S LOVE AFFAIR, 2017 16h chestnut mare

Another barn favorite! Fable is a beautiful mare who’s track connections could not say enough positive things about her. She is reported sound with no past injuries and with no stall vices. Our volunteers got to see her in her stall and she is as sweet as reported, begging for pets and snuggles! Her groom reports that Fable is the best behaved and kindest horse she’s ever handled in the paddock before a race. She is reported to be very, very sweet and kind, and perfect to ride. They state that she never does anything wrong. She is currently out of conditions to run and her connections state that she is just too nice of a horse to just keep in the barn. While she is a bit on the lighter framed side, she is currently in a growth spurt. For her jog video she showed off lovely flowing movement. Fable is by War Power who is by the extremely desired Pulpit who’s offspring are known for athletic ability, build, and trainability. War Power’s dam is by Rahy, from the Blushing Groom line, and she is a half sister to Union Rags. Fable’s dam is by Tale of the Cat out of a mare by Mt. Livermore, which brings in another cross of Blushing Groom. Fable is a lovely girl that we could see going in just about any direction.

HOW YOU FEELING, 2019 16.1h bay gelding

Hunk of love” was exactly how How You Feeling’s groom described him, and our volunteers agreed! This very sweet boy is reported to be sound, with no vices, and to be absolutely perfect!  He is reported to always be relaxed, good to ride, but just too slow.  His connections stated that he is am absolute barn favorite and that all the ladies in the barn are absolutely in love with him.  This youngster is definitely in a growth spurt right now, so he is a bit “butt high” at the moment.  How You Feeling is by Mission Impazible who’s offspring have been known for their trainability and fantastic brains.  How You Feeling is the one everyone looks for, tall dark, handsome with lots of chrome. Don’t let this sweet boy pass you by!

SOARING MIST, 2018 15.3h bay filly

Quote

Soaring Mist is currently seeking her very own person. This young girl is reported sound with no vices, however, she does like to “make faces” in her stall. Her connections report that they are all just an act, and that she never does anything wrong, but she does like to pretend to have a “tough girl” exterior. While she may give dirty looks in her stall, our volunteer were wowed by her lovely dapples, deep barrel, and overall lovely appearance outside her stall. She is reported good to ride, but that she very much wants just one person to learn to trust. She has a bit more go than whoa, so they do think she would be best suited with an experienced rider. Soaring Mist is by Soaring Empire who is by Empire Maker who’s offspring are known for their jumping and dressage ability, as well as their trainability. She is out of a Mt. Livermore mare.

PENDOLINO, 2016 16.1h gray mare

Here is another stunning gray mare who has proven her mettle with over $200,000 in race winnings, mostly in allowance races on the top level NYRA circuit.  She has a strong boned uphill build with a great shoulder and hind end. Her trainer says she loves treats, especially peppermints and carrots.  Her legs are clean, and the trainer reports that she is sound.  With her quality racing record and strong female family, her trainer thinks she is an attractive prospect as a broodmare for racing.  With her good looks we also think she would produce beautiful warmblood cross babies. She is sired by Honorable Dillon, a son of the great Tapit.  Her dam is by Tiznow and is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winners, including a millionaire grade 1 winner.  Her third dam is a multiple stakes winner and stakes producer. This is the direct female family of Naughty Gal, who just won one of the top 2yo filly graded stakes races at Saratoga.

VOODOO CAT, 2016 15.3h chestnut gelding

This friendly cute guy is a stiking dun color with a dark dorsal stripe, although dun is not an official thoroughbred coloring. He was so perfectly polite for his photo session, showing off his compact solid bodied conformation.  For his jog video he displayed very nice even and flowing movement, with a good ground covering step on a loose lead. His trainer says he is excellent to handle and work with, has no vices, and is an easy keeper. She reports that he has set osselets that usually do not bother him, but now is a good time to find him a less strenuous career since in   his 14 starts, he has proved to be a hard tryer who has 6 second or third place finishes, but he has yet to win — and as a 6 year old, if he does not win soon he will no longer be eligible to race at Finger Lakes.  He is sired by Friesan Fire, who is a son of AP Indy out of a mare by Dehere from the Deputy Minister sire line. His dam, Blues Cat, is from Dixieland Band and Fappiano lines.  These are excellent sport horse lines, which suggest that Voodoo Cat could do well in many new careers. We can see him as a great kid’s horse– for someone working with a professional trainer of course– or as a trail and pleasure horse, or a horse for lower level local H/J or dressage.

KOALA BEAR, 2015 16.2h dark bay gelding

Located on a farm in Shortsville NY, close to the Finger Lakes Race Track
Everyone loves Koala Bears, and this gorgeous equine version (by an Australian sire) is as adorable and loveable as his namesake.  Koala Bear is a beloved homebred, so you can get his entire  history from the owner/breeder, who is the designated contact person.  Lightly raced, he hit the board in half of his 12 starts, but did not find the winner’s circle.  Since the tracks at which they race do not allow non-winners to race past 6, they brought Koala Bear back to their farm, let him down from racing, and are now ready to find him a great new home where he can excel in a new career.  Koala Bear has siblings, out of the same mare, who are doing quite well as show jumpers, so we think Koala Bear has equally great sport horse potential.  The owner/breeder describes Koala Bear as bold and strong and sound, with unlimited potential for any new discipline — but because he is big and strong he is best suited for an experienced rider.   He is good to handle and has no vices and ships well.  She reports that Koala Bear is good in group turn out, but is the “boss  I want to be first in” type of horse.  She has been using him as a babysitter for her young horses, and he is great at that task.   Koala Bear is a gorgeous horse, nearly black, solid bodied, with an elegant chiseled head. He is clean legged, and currently barefoot.  He had been trimmed the day before our photo session, and he showed a very nice even trot on pavement.   Koala Bear is sired by Lohnro, who was a champion in Australia, and is from the Sir Ivor/Turn-to sire line — a line one doesn’t see much in the US anymore but is known for stout sound horses with jumping aptitude and stamina. His dam, Argentina, is by Storm Cat and her female line is one of the best in the US stud book — and, as the owner/breeder informed us, she has already proven her ability to produce great jumpers. Koala Bear presents a rare opportunity to get a horse already fully let down from the track, adjusted to farm life, and ready to restart for a new career.

JUMP STARTER, 2019 16h chestnut gelding

Exciting young sport horse prospect!  He has the build, sport horse pedigree, athletic movement, and temperament to take you far in eventing or H/J disciplines. SInce he is only three, he is likely to grow some more and top out at over 16h. After just five races in which he has yet to hit the board, it is obvious that racing is not the game for Jump Starter. His trainer says that he loves to gallop, and trains well in the morning, but that hasn’t translated into success in the afternoon races.  She reports that he is sound, good to deal with and work around, a good eater, and has no vices. As a bonus, she reports that he is very neat in his stall — something that any groom/stall cleaner will greatly appreciate!  Jump Starter is sired by Micromanage, a son of Medaglia D’Oro from the coveted ElPrado/Sadler’s Wells sire line.  MIcromanage has sired several horses who have become successful eventers/jumpers; indeed, Micromanage himself was retired from stud duty and retrained as an eventer.  Jump Starter’s dam Red to Positive is by Jump Start, a son of AP Indy — everyone that we know who has a Jump Start offspring loves them and is always looking for these bloodlines for sport horses.  We listed Red to Positive ten years ago, and her groom at the track described her as a sweetheart who was wonderful to work with.  It sounds like she has passed her great temperament on to her son.

EXECUTIVE DECREE, 2014 16.2h bay gelding

Classy war horse alert!  For those who are wise enough to know how wonderful the mature horses who have been there, done that, raced all over proving their heart, durability and soundness are for many years of fun in new careers,  you should be jumping to bring Executive Decree into your life.  His trainer describes him as a “nice class horse who knows his business.”  He was oh so mellow and sensible for his photo session, paying no attention to horses next to him on a walking machine who were doing bucking twirlies as he jogged by on a loose lead. He’s big, with an uphill build and shiny coat and just enough chrome to attract attention in the show ring. He showed a big step at the walk and good push from behind at the trot. His trainer reports that he can be a bit standoffish to people he doesn’t know (although he was friendly with our volunteer) and he would love to be a one person horse who can bond with his person. If ever a horse deserved a great life settled down with his own person to bond with, it is the well traveled Executive Decree.  HIs racing career of 71 starts, 8 wins, 9 seconds, and 19 thirds, has taken him to 9 states, from the Pacific Northwest, to the Southwest, to the MIdwest, to Florida, and the Northeast. His trainer reports that he is very sound; he has small osselets that are well set and have been with him for a long time, and cause no issues at all.  Executive Decree has been less competitive this year, so his trainer realizes it is time to let him move on to a new career. He has no limitations and could do anything. He was bred in California, and he is by Thorn Song, a son of Unbridled’s Song out of a mare from Storm Bird/Northern Dancer and Secretariat lines. His dam is form Nureyev and Langfuhr/Danzig lines.

SPILL THE TEA, 2018 15.2h liver chestnut filly

Located at a farm in Weedsport NY — where she will start retraining while looking for her new person.
This petite and pretty filly was so sweet and friendly as we stood in front of her stall getting her story from her trainer.  The trainer confirmed that she is very sweet and kind to handle, with no vices.  The current owner claimed her this past spring, hoping that with her turf oriented pedigree she would excel racing on the grass.  But she turned out to have a small chip in her left knee; the trainer told us that she gallops fine on it without any soreness, but that she has come back from the exertion of racing a bit sore on the knee for a few days.  So they would like to find her a new career less strenuous than racing.  Considering that she gallops around the track without issues, she can probably do many lower level disciplines.  She jogged politely for her video, showing cute movement.  She has one win in ten starts, with an additional second and third.  She is well bred, with several illustrious sport horse sires in her pedigree. She is by Ironicus, a turf stakes winner by Distorted Humor out of an AP Indy mare. Her dam is by the great More than Ready, who is from the Halo sire line.

SKYWRITING, 2016 17.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Unicorn alert!!!! Everyone tells us they want a very big, balanced, beautiful moving gelding with a great sport horse pedigree and a good brain who is light and lofty to ride…. at a reasonable price. Well here he is!!! Skywriting sold for $425,000 as a yearling, based on his exceptional looks and balance and pedigree. While he did not quite live up to that lofty price on the track, he has a respectable record of 3 wins and 6 additional top three finishes in his 34 race career. His owner/trainer says that this year his heart just does not seem to be in racing anymore, yet they recognize his exceptional potential for a new sport horse career, so it is time to let him find the perfect new outlet. His handler, who is the trainer’s wife and who has a H/J and dressage background, told us that she has been riding Skywriting, and that he has floaty gaits and a lofty rhythmic canter that has her dreaming of upper level dressage. She reports that he is very kind to ride with a soft mouth, and that he is trained to stand quietly on cross ties and at the mounting block.  He does have one quirk — he is sensitive to having a bridle pulled over his ears, so they bridle him by putting in the bit and then unbuckling the headstall and placing it over his ears and then buckling it back up.  He is reported to be sound but with an old set osselet that does not bother him at all.  He was gelded last year, and is not studdish, but like many horses gelded late, he can occasionally be mouthy.  Due to his size, his bridling quirk, and big lofty movement he is not for an inexperienced rider — but in the right experienced hands we think he can go far in the sport horse world. For his jog video he displayed beautiful light and lofty ground covering movement.  He is sired by Super Saver, who is a son of Maria’s Mon from an AP Indy mare.  The Maria’s Mon sire line is a coveted pedigree line for sport horses, known for great movement, jumping ability and great minds, and we know so many people who have horses from this line who tell us they want more! Skywriting’s dam line is equally good for sport disciplines, with Sky Mesa, Pulpit/AP Indy, Dehere, Deputy Minister.  Skywriting is the rare offering that fits what everyone with upper level ambitions says they are looking for, so call fast — horses like this do not come around often.

ZIA ADELIA, 2018 15.3h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
The beautiful miss Zia is a very friendly and inquisitive filly, as our volunteer got to experience first-hand.  As we were taking notes about Zia while standing in front of her stall, she started nuzzling us and our notebook as if to say “are you writing about how beautiful and sweet I am?”  Zia has several second and third place finishes in her racing career at the maiden special weight level, but at the end of last year she developed an osselet  in her right front ankle.  Her owner/trainer gave her the winter off, then x-rayed her ankle, and it showed that the osselet was set, and there were no chips or fractures or other issues in that ankle, and the vet cleared her for a full return to racing. But in her workouts Zia is showing her connections that her heart is no longer in racing, so they have decided that it is best for this very pretty and sweet filly to find her a new career that is not quite as strenuous.  Zia is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  The trainer’s wife has ridden Zia at their farm, and told us that she is very soft in the bridle and lovely to ride and handle… and she and the trainer confirmed that Zia is a very friendly girl with no vices. They also reported that she is accustomed to a mounting block and cross ties, and that she is good for the farrier. For her jog video Zia showed off pretty light movement that makes us think she might be a lovely lower level hunter or dressage prospect.  In our experience, we have seen many OTTBs with bigger old set osselets than hers succeeding as jumpers, eventers, show hunters…. in other words, old set osselets do not impede any new career! Zia has balanced conformation with a classic pretty hunter look, and as a young four year old she is still likely to grow a bit more. She is sired by Liaison, who is a son of Indian Charlie, which is the same sire  line as the great Uncle Mo.  Her dam side brings in Deputy Minister, Broad Brush, and Halo — all excellent sport horse lines.

BEYONDELLE, 2015, 16.2h dark bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Ooh la la, feast your eyes on this gorgeous, classy mare who has long been a barn favorite! Beyondelle is well loved by her connections, current and past, and it’s easy to see why. From her classic good looks, substantial size and winning personality, Beyondelle’s handler offers nothing but superlatives to describe her. The trainer stated that her riders love to gallop Beyondelle and that she is all business when she is on the track. Beyondelle has had a very successful career as a racehorse, compiling 13 in-the-money finishes out of 33 lifetime starts, including 7 wins. She had an unfortunate fall in November of 2021 when she clipped heels with another horse while racing and went down. She was shaken up but not injured and went back to the barn on her own. Both she and her rider have had several months to get back to 100% and, although she is sound, her heart is no longer in the game and she has not returned to her prior form. For her video she was super laid back, walking quietly on a loose lead, and then politely jogging, showing a lovely even trot. Beyondelle has an excellent pedigree for sport. She is by Biondetti, a son of Bernardini (A. P. Indy). Bernardini and A. P. Indy get are sought after for careers in sporting disciplines and are noted to have good brains. Her dam is by Elusive Quality from the desirable Gone West sire line, and she has the great sport horse sire Quiet American in her damsire line. Beyondelle is truly the total package for fans of mares in beautiful dark bay wrapping.

A MAIZE ZING RIP 2017 15.3+ bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This lovely gelding is described as a very sweet boy who is great to work with and to gallop on the track. After a respectable racing career, Rip’s family connections have made the decision to move him along. He just isn’t competitive anymore and they feel that he’s just done with the game. He was very sweet and quiet while we visited with him and was happy to accept the mints we offered while standing him up for his photos. He has no stable vices according to the handler and is sound with clean legs. Rip is by Majestic City, a son of City Zip, out of a Wildcat Heir mare. The Majestic City offspring that we have placed are all very sweet and kind horses, good movers, and showing excellent jumping ability. He also has More Than Ready, Halo, Relaunch, and Dixieland Band, among other notable sport horse sires, in his pedigree. Rip has notched 14 in-the-money finishes out of 33 lifetime starts, including 5 wins, so he has been a good earner for his shedrow. While we observed his fondness for peppermints, we were also told that he loves his Jolly Ball and is quite playful with it, so add those two items to your shopping list before he comes home with you!

C B LOVES A FIGHT, 2019 16.1h bay gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
C B may love a fight, but he doesn’t love racing or running any faster than the water truck!
After 8 lifetime starts without once finishing better than fourth, his connections are pulling the plug on this leggy son of leading New York sire Central Banker. C. B. is only three and still has some growing and filling out in his future. He was extremely polite and cooperative while we stood him up for his conformation shots and chatted about his brief racing career. His handler told us that he cribs but only on the screen in the front of his stall and not on his water bucket or feed tub. C. B. is reported to be sound, is good to work with on the ground and we saw nothing but potential in this handsome young gelding. He has an outstanding sport horse pedigree. His sire Central Banker is by Speightstown, who is a son of renowned sport horse sire Gone West, out of a mare by Go For Gin from the His Majesty/Ribot line. CB’s dam is by Pleasant Tap, a son of Pleasant Colony, who brings in another cross of HIs Majesty/Ribot. This lovely young gelding is offered at a rare bargain price, so we think he will go fast.

SPARTINA SPLASH, 2015 15.3h bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
Spartina has been lovingly cared for by connections who are prepared to conduct due diligence when selecting her new home. She has been a good earner for them and now that her form has tailed off, they are eager for her to find a new home that will love her as much as they do. We loved her solid build with a deep chest and clean legs. Her trainer believes that she could go in just about any direction but thinks she may appeal to polo or barrels riders with her compact stature. She reports that Spartina turns out well in a herd and has had winters off at the farm. Spartina has a very good race record with 33 lifetime starts, 18 of them in-the-money, a better than 50% record. Her earnings of a bit over $100,000 was, as her trainer stated, earned the hard way in lower level claiming ranks. We loved her jog where she showed off lovely balance and cadence. She is by Boys at Toscanova (Officer) and out of a Precise End Mare who was herself a very successful racehorse with 12 wins and better than 50% in-the-money finishes. Spartina was meant to be a good racehorse and she complied while she had the heart for it. When you call to make an appointment to see her in person, please be prepared to give references.

Independent Thinka, 2017 15.2h bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
Just look at the shine and dapples resplendent on this adorable mare in a plain bay wrapper (this writer’s weakness!). Without being asked, she stood herself up in perfect fashion and posed quietly in the road while our photographer went to work capturing her beauty. Thinka has a brief history on the track and her handler/trainer was forthcoming with all information. Thinka sustained a sesamoid fracture as a three year old and had lengthy rehab time to get back in the game with the ultimate goal of resuming her racing career at Presque Isle Downson the synthetic surface. She has been in training and breezing without any soundness issues at all, but her connections realized that, in order to be ready for the PI meet, which ends in mid-September, they would have to move more quickly on her than they felt comfortable with. Her very generous owner agreed to stop on her racing career and let her move her along into her next, best, career off the track, and now she is here for your consideration. Thinka has had excellent care and has been xrayed during her rehab as well as prior to every breeze, to be certain that no changes were occurring. These serial xrays are available for serious inquiries. Thinka is sound and has been in regular training. Thinka has been with her track connections at their winter farm and is good in turnout with a larger herd, with a tendency to be boss mare. She is described as a very easy keeper so does not get the full grain regiment that her stablemates do and she remains in very good weight. She is also desdribed as a “perfect” ride and has no stable vices. Thinka is an all around good citizen. For her jog video she displayed beautiful movement, with an even rhythm and a flowing reach. We can see her in the hunter ring with her beaiutiful good looks and huntery movement, but we also think she can shine in any new disciplines.Thinka is by Colonel John (Tiznow) out of a Wiseman’s Ferry dam. She is lightly raced with three lifetime starts and no in-the-money finishes.

MACLEAN’S LEGACY, 2017, 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
Maclean’s Legacy is a solid bodied, handsome young gelding who is retiring sound, with unlimited potential for any new career. After racing at the tougher NYC and PA circuits, his owner sent him to Finger Lakes hoping that the softer competition would get Legacy to the winner’s circle. But when that didn’t happen, his connections decided it was time to find Legacy a new career where he can excel. He has clean, tight legs, and his connections say he is sound, a good horse to handle, without any stable vices. He showed off very nice balanced movement for his jog video, and he was very polite to handle even though he has just been walking since his last race. He has 21 starts, with one win, and 4 additional top three finishes. He has raced six times in 2022 so he is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP. Legacy has a excellent sport horse pedigree. He is by Maclean’s Music, a rising star sire son of the great Distorted Humor, and out of an Unbridled’s Song mare. Legacy’s dam is by Crafty Prospector with a female family that features the excellent sport horse sires Private Account and Vaguely Noble.

So who doesn’t love Lasgana? And this “dish” is especially delectable — a gorgeous barn favorite with a gleaming, dappled coat, sweet demeanor and thick build. Lasagna is a barn pet who is also a homebred from the trainer’s breeding program. Her groom had nothing but kind words about her charge, and enthusiastically endorsed her as a nice mare who doesn’t like to be rushed while training or on the track. Lasagna has had 20 starts, with only one win, and her recent performances have convinced her connections that the elusive second win is not likely…. but they know she can have a “delicious” new career — she has unlimited potential for any discipline. She is retiring sound, and we admired her stout build and lovely neck, a trait her handler said is from her dam. She has a cute way of going at the jog and was ever so polite while standing for her conformation shots. Lasagna is by Verrazano, a son of More Than Ready from the Halo line, so she boasts a good sporting pedigree. Her dam is also from the Halo sire line, with the In Excess/Caro line as well — exceptional sport horse lines.

HERECOMESTHEJUDGE, 2016 16+h bay gelding

Located on a farm in Victor NY near Finger Lakes Race Track
This solid bodied beautiful son of Big Brown is described by his connections as a “wonderful” horse with a fun personality, kind to ride, lovely to gallop, soft in the bridle, preferring a soft-handed rider. He comes from the best connections who take great care of their horses and love to follow them in their new careers. They describe him as sound, with clean legs. They have decided to retire him from racing because after his recent workouts he came back a bit stiff; while he quickly worked out of it, he has done well for them and deserves a less strenuous career.  They feel he has no limitations for any new discipline, including jumping. Judge has 19 starts, with 3 wins, and 6 seconds/thirds.  He has published workouts this year so he should be fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  In the videos taken at the owner/trainer’s farm, Judge showed excellent engagement and push from behind with nice suspension at the jog.  Judge has an ideal sport horse pedigree.  Both his sire, Big Brown, and his damsire, Freud, are known for producing good movers and jumpers with good brains.  Big Brown comes from the Danzig line of Northern Dancer; Freud is a full brother to Giant’s Causeway, one of the most sought after TB sport horse stallions.

STARSHIP PRANKSTER, 2017 16h bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester). This lovely girl is described as being “absolutely lovely to be around” by her race connections.  Volunteers witnessed this as she was groomed for her photo session without being tied, often nuzzling her groom.  She is reported to have no vices or injuries, and to be extremely pleasant in the barn.  While she is more of a forward thinking horse, her connections state that she just likes to go, but doesn’t do anything naughty.  She was very excited during her jog video as her groom commented that she was “thinking she was going to go race”, but she remained respectful of her handler. He commented that he had often been told that she was a nice mover, and our volunteers witnessed lovely lofty movement that, combined with the gorgeous roaning throughout her coat, would surely turn heads!  Starship Prankster is by Bahamian Squall who is by the sought after sport horse sire Gone West and out of a Touch Gold mare.

UNION BANKS, 2016 16.2h bay gelding — sold for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This handsome, solid bodied son of the great Union Rags is described by his trainer as a quiet, sweet, laid back horse who is “perfect to work with.”  Showing the truth to his trainer’s words, Union Banks stood like a perfect gentleman for his photo session, unfazed by morning training activity going on around him, and eager for our attention. His elegance, and kind intelligent eye impressed our volunteers.  Union Banks has been a solid hard trying race horse, with 23 starts and 16 top three finishes. His trainer reports that Union Banks is now coming back from his races with a slight filling in the left knee that goes away after a few days, and he thinks it is best to let him move on to a new career that is less strenuous than racing.  On the track, in the confined stressful atmosphere, Union Banks can be a stallwalker; he would benefit from an environment where he can get turnout and some time to learn to be a horse again.  His sire Union Rags is by Dixie Union, and both of those sires are known for getting horses with great brains, good movement, and heart.  Union Banks’ dam is by Successful Appeal, an excellent sport horse sire from the In Reality sire line.  Union Banks’ third dam produced the star racehorse and sire Indian Charlie, who sired Uncle Mo. So there are more great sport horse lines on the dam’s side of his pedigree.  We think that Union Banks could be a great horse for pleasure riding, lower level dressage or hunter paces and eventing, that someone looking for a sensible horse with a great brain, who is working with a trainer who knows how to transition OTTBs to new disciplines could have a lot of fun with.
Price: $3,000 negotiable

GREAT GRAND SON, 2016 16h chestnut stallion

Located on a farm next to the Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)  Hello gorgeous! The flashy chrome, great shoulder, kind eye, friendly personality,  big fancy movement, and fabulous sport horse pedigree on this guy left our volunteers drooling over his sport horse potential.  Our volunteer who is a dressage rider sees upper level potential for that discipline; our volunteer who has evented also sees upper level potential for that discipline.  When we photographed and videoed him, he had done nothing but hand walk since his last race three weeks ago, and he stood politely for photos, and walked and jogged respecting his handler. He showed a flowing walk with a big step, and a trot with great reach from the shoulder and signs of fancy extension.  When he emerged from the barn, he also displayed signs of elevation and collection that had our dressage-oriented volunteer quite excited. Great Grand Son was bred by his owner, who also started him under saddle and galloping on the track.  The owner/breeder describes him as easy to start, an intelligent horse who progressed quickly to doing figure eights and a soft canter; he also reports that he was lovely to gallop on the track.  The owner/breeder wasn’t able to get him to the races until he was 5, due to COVID and other life disruptions; in only three starts Great Grand Son has demonstrated that he does not want to be a racehorse.  His first two starts were at Belmont last fall, and when he ran far behind the field in both races, his owner had a Vet thoroughly check him out, and the report was that the horse was sound and physically able to do anything.  This year, the owner sent Great Grand Son to FInger Lakes, hoping that the softer competition would bring him racing success, but in his only start at Finger Lakes in early June he showed a lack of competitiveness. Because he has raced and worked in 2022, he is fully eligible for the 2022-23 RRP.  The trusted person who is now caring for Great Grand Son reports that he is a kind and “really cool” horse, who loves attention, and is a great eater.  He is a little bit mouthy, in a playful way — something one can expect in a horse who is still intact.  While he could remain a stallion and enjoy a dual career as a sport horse and a sport horse sire to cross with warmblood mares, he would certainly make an amazing gelding.  Great Grand Son is by Marsh Side, a son of Gone West out of a Pleasant Colony mare.  We have placed several Marsh Side offspring, and the lucky people who have them report that they have great brains, and are excellent movers and jumpers. We have placed Marsh Side offspring into successful careers on the A level show hunter circuit, as well as rated eventing and dressage circuits. Great Grand Son’s dam side of his pedigree is also full of top sport horse sires, including Cozzene, Caro, and Maria’s Mon.  The owner/breeder wants to make sure his beloved boy goes to an excellent home with the skills and experience to bring out his potential, and that will keep in touch and always let him know how his homebred boy is doing. For this reason, he has asked an FLF volunteer to serve as the contact person, who will screen potential homes and get references. The purchaser must be willing to sign a contract that includes no auction/dealers/slaughter, and a requirement to keep the owner/breeder informed about any subsequent homes.

Price: $4500 negotiable to the perfect home

DONTPOKETHEBEAR, 2019 15.3h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (Near Rochester)
If you’re looking for an easy-going girl with a bit more go than whoa, Dontpokethebear is just the girl for you. Her trainer states that this beautiful filly is retiring sound after two very lackluster starts and is showing absolutely no talent as a racehorse. She showed off her relaxed easy manner, standing quietly to have her photos taken and jogging respectfully after just racing that day. She showed off lovely light flat kneed toe flicking movement that suggest she could make a fancy show hunter. Her trainer states that she has no vices and is easy to work around. Dontpokethebear is by Courageous Cat, a sought after sport horse sire known for offspring who are exceptional jumpers and good movers. We have placed several off his offpsring who are succeeding in eventing, jumping, show hunters and dressage. Her dam, Boys Running Wild, is from Deputy Minister and Private Account sire lines that are very popular in the sport horse disciplines. Don’t miss this very lightly raced filly who is an outstanding sport horse prospect!

FINANCIAL MANNERS, 2019 15h chestnut filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
What this flashy petite filly lacks in size she makes up for with good looks, beautiful movement, and a sweetheart personality. She is known around the barn as “Fifi,” and her connections report that she is “as sweet as can be. We witnessed this ourselves as we snuggled with Fifi in her stall while getting her llisting information. She is reported to be sound and her legs are clean. Fifi has had 5 starts but has yet to hit the board, so racing is not the career for her. With her chrome and dapples she sure can stand out in any show arena! She showed off a quiet naturally rhythmic and floaty trot that could make her a hunter ring star. Her connections report that she is straightforward to ride, lovely to handle, has no vices and is a barn favorite for sure. Fifi is by Central Banker, a son of Speightstown, who is known to throw well-brained ammy friendly sport horses. Her dam is by Girolamo, an AP Indy son.

DEACON ELI, 2019, 15.3h, Chestnut Gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes race track.
Okay, NYGiants Fans– here’s your chance to bring Eli into your family! This handsome young gentleman is not quite living up to the glory of his namesake Eli Manning, but that doesn’t mean that his athleticism won’t shine through in a new career. In the barn, he’s known as “hot rod” and his connections say that he is great to work around and well mannered. He is reported to have no stable vices, but he does know how to beg for bananas whenever he sees one in the shedrow. So, a home willing to provide bananas is essential for this cutie. His connections report that Hot Rod is just not showing enough speed to continue in race training, so he is looking for a discipline he can be more successful in.  “Hot Rod” has had only one race this spring, and he showed no racing ability, so his owner wants to find him a new career. He is fully eligible for RRP in 2022 or 2023. At only 3 years old, he will continue to grow and fill out,Come get this “hot rod” today and see if Eli can bring home superbowl rings for you too!

Anchor Lady, 2018 15.2-3h chestnut filly

ANCHOR LADY, 2018 15.2-3h chestnut filly
Here she is, the first official FLF listing of 2022 — a cute moving sweetheart filly with a great sport horse pedigree.  Anchor Lady was very sweet and friendly for her meet and greet with our volunteers. Her trainer said that the quiet and agreeable temperament that she showed off for us is how she always is. He described her as a kind and easy to handle filly with no vices who is very sound, and we observed tight and clean legs. She has had seven races and has not come close to hitting the board — she shows early speed and then retreats.  Her trainer attests that she has no unsoundness or wind or breathing issues – she is just not competitive as a racehorse.  He thinks that she could be a great horse for a kid working with a trainer; we also think that with her size and early speed she should be appealing as a polo prospect.  But we also think that with her good build, lovely movement, and outstanding sport horse pedigree, she presents a very appealing eventing, hunter, or dressage prospect at an enticing bargain price.  Her sire Anchor Down is a son of the great Tapit and Anchor Down excelled as a stakes winner going long on the turf. We know of several Anchor Down offspring that have transitioned successfully to sport horse careers.  Her female family is full of top level stakes horses who excelled in long distance turf races in Europe — a definite recipe for success in eventing and jumping disciplines.  Her dam Kidder Done is by Thunder Gulch, who has sired many level headed good movers and great jumpers succeeding in show hunter and jumping disciplines. Her dam has produced a stakes placed runner and others who have proven to be durable and sound  big hearted hard trying race horses.  Her second dam is a graded stakes winner on the turf in England who ran second in the Epsom Oaks and who is sired by a full brother to the great Sadler’s Wells, one of the best TB jumping/sport horse sires of all time.  We see real diamond in the rough sport horse potential in Anchor Lady; when she gets re-muscled and her top line gets developed and her naturally good light movement is further developed, she has potential to be the sport horse star that her pedigree suggests she can be.  Very motivated owner to find her a great new home at a bargain price.

FORZA JUVE, 2018 16h bay gelding

Located at a farm next to Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Soccer fans will immediately know the meaning of this pretty and sweet young gelding’s name: “Come on Juve!” aka Juventus. Juve is described as a sweet and easy going horse, with no vices. We think he will be quite the looker once he matures and fills out. He has had only three starts, and in his last race he came back with a small chip in his knee. X-rays will be made available to seriously interested people. The trainer told us that the vet thinks that with the winter off, properly rested and rehabbed, that Forza Juve should be fine as a riding horse. He has already had 6 weeks of handwalking, and he is now jogging soundle and showing very nice movement at the trot.  He is ready for turnout. Lower level jumping and flat work would be his best outlets.  Forza Juve was very friendly and polite for his photo session, and we were quite taken with his kind eye, and sweet and willing attitude. He has a small bump on the back of one foreleg, from a cut when he was a baby and it is purely cosmetic. He is sired by Stephanoatsee, who is by AP Indy out of star broodmare Oatsee, which makes Stephanoatsee a half brother to Shackleford and many other stakes winners. Forza Juve’s dam is by Catineus out of a mare from Seeking the Gold lines.

BAY DEFENSE, 2015 16.1h+ bay gelding

Located on a farm near Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This big, handsome gelding checks all the boxes of what everyone says they are looking for:  uphill build, sound, clean legged, lightly raced, very good mover, kind temperament, upper-level sport horse potential.  His current owner/trainer describes him as a very sweet horse who wants to please, and his groom at the track echoed that assessment, describing him as a very good, kind horse, classy and great to work with. He displayed his good sense during his photo session, when two horses on a nearby walking machine started bucking and acting up.  Bay Defense just stood there looking on with interest, and never showed the slightest inclination to get agitated by their antics. His breeding is all class as well. He is by First Defence, a son of Unbridled’s Song out of a top stakes winning Seattle Slew mare, and his dam is a multiple stakes winner sired by Compliance, a son of Northern Dancer.  He was a homebred for his previous connections, and they started racing him in 2019,  then his owner sat out the entire racing season in 2020 due to Covid, and consequently Bay Defense came back to the races this year at 6. While he has had some 3rds and 4ths in his 7 starts, including at the top level Saratoga and Belmont tracks, he has yet to win, so his connections realize he needs to find a new career where he can excel.  With his uphill build, strong shoulder, athletic very good movement, and top quality sport horse pedigree, we think this one has upper-level eventer or jumper written all over him.

LILBIT BLUE, 2017 16h bay filly

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Will be moving to a farm nearby the racetrack very soon. Lilbit Blue is coming from connections known for their fabulous caretaking skills, and she is no exception. It’s always a treat to get to list an impeccably clean and carefully tended to horse from this barn. Blue is described as very sweet and an easy filly to get along with. Her connections report that she has no vices, is sound, and retiring clean legged. They feel she would be best suited as an eventing horse as she prefers to run long. She had nice big feet that would support that idea! She is relatively lightly raced with only 9 starts. She earned over $25,000 with 2 wins, 2 seconds, and a third, but her connections feel she will not be suited for her current race conditions, and are ready to pass this gorgeous girl on to a new career. She is sure to be a head turner wherever she goes! She is another great option for RRP 2022! She is by Micromanage out of a out of a Straight Man mare

STONI BRAXTON, 2017 15.2h bay filly

Located on a farm in Victor NY near the Finger Lakes Race Track
This adorable filly had us searching the greatest hits list of her R & B superstar namesake — and we can say that she will give you her love, will unbreak your heart, and will make you high with joy!  This daughter of Bustin Stones — named of course after Toni Braxton — is described by her trainer as very sweet, and we got to experience this firsthand:  as our volunteer stood in front of her while she was being cleaned up for her photo session, Stoni started nuzzling her, begging to be loved on, so of course our volunteer complied! Her trainer says that Stoni is a good girl, very nice to work with, and is sound — she “has never taken a bad step,” in her words. The trainer thinks that Stoni can go in any new direction, and has no limitations for any discipline.  We note that Bustin Stones offspring have proved very popular with barrel racers, and Stoni’s young age and smaller stature should also appeal to polo people. We could also see her being the doted upon pet of a teenager who wants to do local hunter/jumper shows or go on trail rides and hunter paces. She is lightly raced, with 8 starts and 3 wins — to show her soundness and heart, in her last two races this fall, Stoni finished first and second.  She is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP.  She is sired by Bustin Stones, a son of City Zip. Her dam, Reprieve, is by Successful Appeal out of a Point Given mare.

TRY’N SMART’N UP, 2016 16.1-2h bay gelding: new price!

Located on a farm in Victor NY very close to the Finger Lakes Race Track
A beloved homebred, you will be able to get the entire history of this big handsome guy from his connections. His trainer describes Try’n Smart’n Up, who they call Smarty,  as “sweet as pie and kind to ride.” They report that he has no vices and is great to work around. He has an impressive shoulder and strong hind end, and is a big handsome horse. He showed very good movement in his jog video, with suspension and good hind end engagement. His movement is nice enough for the hunter ring, and also suggests dressage would be a good career option for him. His trainer reports that he is sound, but she also notes that when he was a yearling he developed impaired vision in one eye, which is now cloudy. She says it has never bothered him at all. While this may well rule out upper level eventing, we know of many horses with one-eyed vision who are very successful in lower level jumping disciplines. Try’n Smart’n Up is sired by Smart BId, who is by Smart Strike out of a Danzig mare. His dam is by Regal Classic, who has sired several horses who have done well in hunters and other jumping disciplines, known for good brains and quiet demeanors. Try’n Smart’n Up has 2 wins in 20 starts, including one win this year. He is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP.

WHAT MIGHTAVEBEEN, 2018 16h bay filly — owner retained for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
We know so many people in the sport horse world that covet offspring of Freud for their jumping ability, movement, and work ethic.  For all you Freud fans out there, here is another one!  This young daughter of Freud (Giant’s Causeway’s full brother)out of an Indian Charlie mare has a great shoulder, is clean legged and described as sound, and we think that once she is in a retraining program and her top line is developed, she will be stunning. She shows all the athleticism associated with Freud offspring, and showed a nice light springy trot for her video.  She has raced 14 times, and this year she has finished in the top 3 in 50% of her races.  But her trainer doesn’t think she will be as competitive in the next level of race conditions that she is now eligible for, so he wants to find her a new career. He said she is a good horse to handle with no vices.  She is well bred, and her direct female family is one of the top stakes producing families in the US stud book. In addition to the successful racing exploits of many of her forebears, she has an excellent sport horse pedigree.  Blushing Groom, AP Indy, Secretariat, Caro, Roberto, Ribot are some of the illustrious sires in her pedigree.

GRANDERELLA, 2016 16h chestnut mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
What a beauty! Granderella dazzled us with dapples that showed through her growing caramel colored winter coat. She also dazzled us with her lovely flowing big strided movement — we can see her excelling in the show hunter ring, or in dressage and eventing. She has a bright kind eye and a gorgeous dished face. Her trainer reports that she is a good girl, nice to handle, good to ride, and with no vices. He says she is sound, and we observed clean legs. Granderella’s racing performances this year are not as successful as in prior years, so he realizes it is time to let her find a new career. Overall she has two wins and 9 additional top 3 finishes in 35 starts. Granderella is by Graydar, who is a son of Unbridled’s Song out of a Dehere (Deputy Minister) mare. Her dam Franderella is by Henny Hughes. We think this lovely mare is one of our nicest offerings this season, but since it is now the end of racing season at Finger Lakes, you will need to step up for her quickly.

JC THE DESTROYER, 2016, 16h bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
JC is a sweet mare who really, really wants to put the racetrack life in her rearview mirror. She has been campaigned off the owner’s farm and brought in to the track for workouts and races. Her handler reports that she has not been doing much since she raced on 11/15 (a last place finish) and she has a lot of pent-up energy. She regularly sees the mare in her barn and says she is well mannered, even with minimal handling. She describes her as a been-there-done-that mare who trailers well and has no stable vices. JC has a swayback which does not affect her soundness and some members of our large group of volunteers and shoppers have had experience with swaybacks who have been champions and ribbon earners in the show ring. JC has had 42 starts and has yet to notch a win, an achievement which seems to be increasingly elusive. JC is by hot sire Big Brown out of a Storm Cat mare. We were wowed when she was jogged for her video, demonstrating light, balanced movement with loft and good push from behind. With her good brain and adorable movement, we think JC has the goods at a bargain price.

I WILL ROCK YOU, 2013, 15.3h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)   This adorable son of Bustin Stones is a barn favorite — he has been a steady check earner for his owner/trainer for many years, hard trying with a lot of heart. But this year Rocky has slowed down, and is letting them know that it is time to let him move on to a new career.  Rocky impressed us with his balanced build and his kind eye. He is described as a kind and sensible horse, a steady eddie type, always good to handle, sound and durable. He showed very cute movement in his jog video, light and even, with good push from behind.  Bustin Stones offspring have proven to be very good barrel horses, and with his solid and compact build, we can see Rocky going in that direction. But we can also see him doing well in just about any new career — he is a great all around prospect to have many years of fun with.  Rocky has 6 wins in 48 starts, and several more top three finishes. He is from the City Zip sire line, and his dam Queen of RocknRoll is by Rock and Roll, a son of Cure the Blues.

San Juan Diego embodied the friendly laid back personality during his meet and greet, standing quietly and politely. His handler reported that Juan is an all around good citizen with no stable vices and is sound. He had raced earlier in the week that we photographed him and looked sound and clean legged. He has some sores on his fetlocks from a fungal infection but his legs are clean and tight. Juan started his racing career on the NYRA circuit, finishing in the money at Saratoga as a 3 year old and breaking his maiden for special weight at Belmont Park. He has 40 starts with 4 wins, 4 seconds and 9 thirds and earnings over $200,000. His sire, Heavy Breathing, is a fuill brother to Frost Gant, and is by the great Giant’s Causeway out of a Gone West mare. San Juan Diego’s dam is by Fortunate Prospect.

TRAIPSE IN UTOPIA, 2011, 16.1 bay mare

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
If you love the older campaigners, as we do, this lovely mare checks a lot of boxes and is sweet enough to melt your heart. Utopia has raced up and down the eastern seaboard since the start of her career but has been with her current connections at Finger Lakes for several years. They have a lot of affection for her and want to find a perfect home where she can live her next, best life. Don’t let her age deter you: she is a testament to the durability of a well conformed, sound thoroughbred who has many years of life and adventures ahead of her. We admired Utopia’s beautiful head and “wise old soul”, kind eye. She has tight cold legs that have carried her over the track in 74 lifetime races and she remains sane and sound. She has notched 9 wins, 15 seconds and 15 thirds, meaning she has better than 50% in the money finishes and over $184K in earnings. The handler’s significant other rode her in her last race and said she skips effortlessly over the surface and is a joy to ride. We watched slack jawed when she moved out for her jog video with such light, balanced and lofty movement that we oohed and aahed and agreed that it has contributed to her longevity as a racehorse. This is one nice mare!

MOMSFIRSTDAY, 2018 16h+ dark bay filly

We see tremendous sport horse potential in this young leggy daughter of Laoban– a son of Uncle Mo, and Uncle Mo and his sire sons are quickly becoming known as good sport horse sires whose offspring move well, jump well, and are brave yet good brained.  Momsfirstday has raced only three times, with two thirds.  Her current owner/trainer claimed her out of her second start, and in her one and only start for him, about a month ago, she reared in the gate and got a bit banged up — yet the rider stayed on, that gate opened, and she showed good speed then backed up.  She had a few superficial scrapes and was body sore after her misadventure in the gate, but her trainer says she is fine now and he has started galloping her again.  But now there is only one more week left in the Finger Lakes race meet, no races to enter her in, and her trainer is not able to overwinter horses. He claimed her from first rate connections, so we know she was started and brought along the right way. She is clean legged, and has a good uphill build, strong shoulder, and neck that comes out of the shoulder just the way eventers like to see.  Although there was not really any place to jog her outside her barn in the freezing rain, due to parked cars and trucks and dumpsters and potholes and puddles, we could tell that she has good light movement, with some suspension and push from behind.  We watched the videos of her races, and observed a beautiful flowing efficient gallop.  She is by Laoban, who is by Uncle Mo out of a Speightstown mare.  Uncle Mo’s pedigree has Caro, Gone West, Roberto, and Danzig sire lines — all very desirable sport horse lines. Momsfirstday‘s dam is by Noonmark, a son of Unbridled’s Song; her second dam is by Bernardini.  More excellent sport horse lines!  Momsfirstday is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP; we think she might turn out to be one of the bargains of the 2021 FLF season!

PUPAREE, 2011 16.2h dark bay mare

Trust our volunteers who see them all — this big, gorgeous mare wowed us and we think she is a fabulous prospect for dressage or any jumping endeavor.  On a day when we saw a dozen super nice horses, several of whom have already set off frenzied bidding wars,  we thought she was the “fairest of them all.”  So we beg you, put aside your age and gender stereotypes and just evaluate the horse:  good height and bone, correct uphill conformation with a strong shoulder, clean legs,  good temperament, intelligent and durable,  fabulous light and lofty movement with great suspension. And bargain price.  And great sport horse pedigree. Puparee has been a good race horse running long on the turf, winning earlier in her career at the top tracks in NY and Florida.  Her current Finger Lakes owner/trainer recently acquired her, figuring he would see how she took to the dirt track.  In her one race at Finger Lakes, on a mucky sloppy track, she let him know that getting mud kicked in her face was not for a fine lady like her.  He says she is good to handle with no vices,  but can be a bit ticklish to groom. We watched him brushing her to get her ready for her photo session, and when he vigorously brushed her wet legs to get the shavings off, she just briefly pinned her ears but did nothing naughty at all.  Puparee is by Congaree, who is by the great Arazi from the Blushing Groom line.  Congaree stood for many years in NY, and we have placed several of his offspring over the years into sport horse careers; they are known for good bone and movement and jumping ability, and good brains and work ethics, and durability and soundness . Puparee‘s dam, Pupcake, is by Gone West out of a mare from Storm Bird/Northern Dancer and Raja Baba lines.  Her This is the direct female family of Northern Baby, who is the greatest steeplechase sire. Jumping ability is definitely in these bloodlines, top and bottom!  Puparee has 6 wins and 9 additional seconds or thirds in 62 starts, and over $169,000 in earnings.  With this record she is a prime candidate for the war horse award at the 2022 RRP, and we would love to cheer her on!

SHANGHAI NOON, 2015 16.1h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
This handsome nearly black beauty impressed us with his class and kind manners. His trainer reports that Shanghai Noon is a “really nice horse,” quiet and laid back, good to handle and to ride. He has been a steady check earner at the races; in 8 starts this year he has been in the top three 6 times, and he has 18 top three finishes in his 29 race career. Shanghai Noon has a beautiful head with a kind and intelligent eye, and he has well balanced good conformation and solid bone. He is very well bred, and sold for $230,000 as a yearling — and his dam was a $1.4 million yearling! He has old set osselets on his ankles, but his trainer says that they don’t bother him. For his jog video he trotted off quietly on a loose lead, showing a lovely smooth and balanced trot. His sire is Shanghai Bobby, who was a champion on the track. Shanghai Bobby is by Harlan’s Holiday. Shanghai Noon’s dam is by Deputy Minister out of a stakes winning mare. We think you could enjoy many new disciplines with this beautiful horse.

ENCRYPTION KEY, 2015 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
This big boned, roan coated sweet boy is a barn favorite. And we can see why. This very classy guy stood quietly as we took lots of photos. He was very charismatic, leaning in for a smooch while our volunteer was getting the shot of his legs. His connections report that “Key” is all class, is very workman like under saddle, and that he is good to gallop but can get a little strong. They also report that his shiny coat boasts even more white and dapples throughout in the summer! He is reported sound and to have no vices. He was already wrapped when we went to see him, but is reported to be clean legged and injury free. He jogged quietly on a loose lead, showing a big lofty stride and good push from behind. Encryption Key’s sire, Data Link, has an ideal sport horse pedigree. Data Link is by War Front, a son of Danzig, and is out of a mare from Deputy Minister and In Reality sire lines. Encryption Key’s dam has AP Indy, Blushing Groom, and Secretariat in her pedigree. We think Encryuption Key has excellent potential for eventing or other sport horse disciplines.

WILD NORTH, 2017, 16+h chestnut filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
If you are looking for a gorgeous filly with a terrific pedigree for breeding either for racing or for sport horses, then Wild North is one you should be very interested in. She is from the first crop of Daredevil, who is a young sire son of the great More than Ready (Halo sire line).  Daredevil has already sired a winner of the Preakness and Kentucky Oaks in his first crop to race. Her dam Go Forth North is a graded stakes winner who is sired by North Light, a Danehill son who won the Epsom Derby, and she is out of a Holy Bull mare. Even on a dreary day Wild North’s beauty and uphill conformation stood out, and she stood so politely in the freezing sleet.  Her trainer says she is very sweet and friendly — a horse who likes to be friends with people and other horses. She says she has no vices and is good to train and ride.  Her legs are clean, and the trainer says that neither she nor the previous trainer have ever had any soundness issues with her.  Wild North is obviously durable — she has raced every 7 to 14 days non-stop since the summer of 2020. That’s what they call “dancing every dance” on the track.  For her jog video we thought she looked stiff or a bit off — but it may well be that she is body sore. She raced again a few days after our photo session, and galloped home in 4th place and came back fine.  We think that she is one who will greatly appreciate a break and a let down period and possibly chiro and massage. We watched the videos of the races she has won — most recently this summer — and we saw a flowing gallop and a lovely trot with nice reach from the shoulders.  So this impression makes us think that once she gets a break from racing and gets over being body sore, she is going to one really nice fancy horse.

BLUE SKIES FOREVER, 2015 16+h bay gelding

BLUE SKIES FOREVER, 2015 16h+ bay gelding
Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
There will certainly be many sunny days ahead if you step up for this solid citizen who has lost his zest for racing but who has unlimited potential for a new career in any discipline. His trainer raved about what a sweetheart he is, “such a good boy,” she said.  He is described as sound, very nice to ride, and great to handle.  His kind and intelligent eye drew us in, and he has a solid bodied uphill build with a strong hind end and the shorter back that many prefer. For his jog video he displayed very good movement, flowing, light, and with a good push from behind. We think he could do well as a show hunter, or in eventing and dressage, but with his laid back and sweet personality he would also love being your pleasure and trail companion. While he has raced successfully in past years, winning over $82,000, this year he seems content to just gallop along in the middle of the pack, so his trainer realizes it is time to let him find a new job.      Blue Skies Forever is a son of Bluegrass Cat, who has sired several horses who have gone on success in sporting careers, and his dam is by Awesome Again.

CAN’TWEALLGETALONG, 2015 16h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
His name says it all for these times — and there is indeed bipartisan agreement that this handsome kind and great moving horse wants to be your new sport horse show ring partner! According to his owner/trainer, he is kind and classy. He has a beautiful solid build, and he showed off very good movement for his jog video — with loft and cadence that should serve him well as either a show hunter or in the dressage arena.  We initially listed him last year when he was still intact, described at that time as a very sweet stallion who was not at all studdish. And since being gelding over the winter his owner/trainer reports that he is even sweeter with wonderful ground manners, an “in your pocket” type. And every time she stood him up for his photos he did indeed want to move in to her for cuddles. She reports that he loves to work, is eager to train in the mornings, and will do anything you ask 110%.  Unfortunately, that no longer translates into running fast enough to win. He has managed to finish in the top 3 just once this year. In his earlier days he won on the top NYRA circuit. He has 41 starts, with 4 wins, 2 seconds, and 9 thirds.  Very well bred, he sold for $60,000 as a yealring and by red hot sire Violence (a son of Medaglia D’Oro out of a Gone West mare) and his dam is by Miswaki.  He does have some slight rounding of his right front ankle which does not cause unsoundness and he is a very light cribber.  His owner/trainer reports that the cribbing is so light and occasional that she does not bother with a collar, and that when he is turned out on her farm he never cribs there. She has had him on her farm for several winters and he gets along in a herd — even when he was still a stud. This is one nice horse — and we think he could have a great new career in hunters, jumpers or dressage and eventing.

BELLA BAY, 2018 16.1h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Bella Bay is described by her handler as a very sweet and friendly filly. We got to experience that first hand: while our volunteer was writing down information about her as she was being brushed in her stall, Bella started nuzzling us, begging to be stroked, and we of course complied. Bella Bay won in her most recent race just a few days before we met her, her second win in 12 starts, and her connections do not think she will be successful in the next level of competition, so they want to find her a new career where her sweetheart personality and laid back demeanor will bring joy to her new person. Bella has very solid bodied and balanced conformation, and since she is only 3 she is likely to grow more, and is going to be quite a good sized mare. Her trainer says she is sound, but she does have small osselets that do not bother her. She also has scars on the front of her back ankles, from an incident when she was a two year old, when she slipped on a wet road and scraped her rear ankles down to the bone. She moved a bit high hocked behind for her jog video, and her trainer says this is just how she goes. While Bella may not be the horse for those of you who want pristine legs and hunter quality movement, we think she is the ideal horse for those who value a sweet personality and a big heart and eagerness to do the job. She is a half sister (same dam) to two horses we know well, owned by friends of our volunteers, and they are both amazing horses. Her half brother, known as Jump, is famous around the track — he seamlessly transitioned week to week from ponying horses on the track on racing days, to being ridden by a young girl at local hunter shows and pleasure classes on the weekends. If Bella Bay is anything like the other horses produced by her dam, she is going to give some lucky person many years of all around fun — we can see her being the type of horse to enjoy hunter paces, trails, and low level jumping, just like her brother Jump. She is a well bred filly, especially for jumping discipines. Her sire is Effinex, who ran second to American Pharoah in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and he is a son of Mineshaft (AP Indy line). Her dam, Just a Bella, is by Cryptoclearance (Fappiano) out of a Northern Baby mare. Northern Baby is one of the all time top sires of steeplechasers and TB jumpers.

CORPORATE RAIDER, 2015 16h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Hey there flashy guy! We know there are a lot of fans of bays with chrome out there, and you won’t find many better-looking ones than Corporate Raider. Wouldn’t you like to be greeted by this face when you come into the barn? Corporate Raider exemplifies the heart, work ethic, and try of the TB — he has an amazing ten wins in his 31 race career, with an additional 10 seconds! Just imagine this will to win channeled into a sport horse discipline. His trainer says that he is sound, good to handle, and has no vices. She says that his white hind legs can be sensitive, so if you like to keep your horses out 24/7 in the mud and dust, we don’t think that would be a good situation for him. Corporate Raider impressed us with his balanced and correct conformation and good shoulder. And even on a gloomy rainy day we could see dapples beneath his growing in winter coat. HIs trainer says that in the summer he dazzles with dapples! He displayed very good movement for his jog video. His sire is Sky Mesa, a son of Pulpit from the AP Indy line. His dam is by Eurosilver, who is by Unbridled’s Song out of a Nijinsky mare. These are TB bloodlines of the highest quality. Horses this nice are rarely offered at such a bargain price, so we recommend acting quickly if you are interested in being the successful raider here!

MISS DANCIN QUEEN, 2017, 15.3h grey filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
We think her nickname should be ABBA, and now we can’t get that song out of our heads! This lovely grey filly is described by her trainer as sound, a good worker who has consistently picked up checks in her races, and a smart filly with a bit of sass. She can be territorial in her stall, but she’s very respectful of her handler and doesn’t do anything naughty. She was not thrilled with having to be out shivering in the freezing rain for her photo session, but still showed off her beauty. For her jog video, we saw tantalizing moments of gorgeous floaty reach to her trot. She is also very well bred– she is by Cross Traffic, a young son of Unbridled’s Song, and her dam Briecat is a multiple graded stakes winner. This filly has unlimited potential for any new discipline, and we think that when she settles down off the track, she could be quite the fancy sport horse. With her pedigree she should also appeal to breeders. She has 16 starts, with 3 wins, 3 seconds, and 3 thirds. She is fully eligible for the 2022 RRP.

HARTS N FLOWERS, 2017, 16h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
She’s as cute and loveable as her name. Her trainer says that she is a friendly good girl with no vices, although she can be a bit ticklish to groom, and she is sound with clean legs. She has been a steady check earner at the races — this year in 10 starts she has 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds, so she has a good work ethic and a heart full of try! Her trainer reports that she can get a bit anxious just before a race, but she’s just fine for anything else, including morning training. She stood politely in the freezing rain for her photos, and jogged off quietly, showing off a smooth and even trot. You could go in any new direction with this filly. She is sired by Khozan, who is a son of Distorted Humor. Her dam is by Medaglia D’Oro. AP Indy, Danzig, El Prado, Sadler’s Wells, Damascus are other top sport horse sires in her pedigree.

PURCHASING POWER, 2015 17.1h+ chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Unicorn alert!!! We so often get messages asking us to keep our eyes open for a truly big 17h+, sound, well bred, gorgeous lofty moving gelding who has potential for many sport horse disciplines… for a bargain price. We have usually replied to those messages with some variation of “in your wildest dreams” … and yet here he is — exactly what we know so many of you have been coveting! Purchasing Power is sired by superstar Curlin, a son of Smart Strike out of a Deputy Minister mare. His dam has Dynaformer (Roberto) close up in her pedigree. Purchasing Power won his most recent race just a few days before we photographed him… and yet he jogged off showing beautiful light and lofty movement with a big step, great engagement and reach, and no signs of post-race stiffness when we photographed him just three days after he had raced. His trainer is ready to move him on to a new career simply because his most recent win, # 5 in his racing career, means that there will be very few race eligibility conditions for which Purchasing Power will be both eligible and competitive. We admired his solid boned uphill build and strong shoulder, and drooled over his lofty trot with suspension and cadence. His handler describes him as a horse who is strong and eager to work on the track, and who can have a playful mouthy nippy demeanor especially when he has not recently been in regular work. She also said that he loves to be groomed and is not at all ticklish. She thinks that this big strong gelding is best suited for an experienced rider with aspirations for upper-level sporting disciplines such as eventing, jumping and dressage. He is not a horse for someone just looking for a laid-back cuddly pet. But for those of you looking for a serious upper-level sport horse prospect, we think this regally bred boy is one you should seriously consider! We expect that such a spectacular horse offered at such an enticing price will be very popular… so our advice is to contact Jamie right away, and try to persuade her through your experience and references that you are the deserving one who can bring out this bug guy’s potential while giving him a secure loving home that does not subject him to the vagaries of the reselling market.
