STAR MANAGER, 2018 15.2h grey filly

Star Manager may not be a racetrack star, but she is sure to be a star in the show ring! This petite girl is her race trainer’s favorite, and our volunteers could see why! This sweet girl nuzzled both her trainer and our volunteers while she posed politely for her photo shoot.  Her trainer said over and over how much he was going to miss her, but that he knew it is time to let her find a new career.  Her exercise rider reported that she is lovely and straightforward to ride.  She is reported sound and to have no vices, other than being a peppermint hound! Our volunteers watched her jog after her last race and she was as quiet as she is in her jog video.  While she may be slight, she sure makes up for it in fanciness! Star displayed a natural over tracking walk and flat kneed jog.  Her tempo never faltered.  Her trainer thinks she would be the perfect hunter for the younger crowd, but we can see her excelling in just about anything! Star Manager is by Micromanage who is by the highly desirable Medaglia D’Oro and is out of an Incurable Optimist mare.

SWINGING STICKS, 2018 16.3h dark bay gelding

Tall dark and handsome? Check. Dapples for days? Check. Lovely to ride? Check. Here’s the young big sound fancy moving gelding that everyone asks for! Swinging Sticks is a horse that his trainer has had for the last year and they’ve enjoyed having him. He is lovely under tack, but his trainer does report that he does bite while being tacked up and because of this, she recommends an experienced handler.  Once in tack, she reports he is lovely to handle, and the volunteers witnessed this as he greeted them at the front of the stall in tack, looking for scratches!  For his jog video, Swinging Sticks demonstrated a lovely over tracking walk and a toe pointing jog with good reach. His movement is fancy enough for the hunter or dressage rings, but we also think he has great potential for eventing. He has 15 starts, with one win, and one third. With this record, his trainer realizes that racing is not his best game, but he has unlimited potential for a new sport horse career.  As his trainer told us, “he is such a nice horse, but just not a race horse.”  Swinging Sticks is by Effinex who is known to throw large, solid offspring with solid minds. Effinex is by Mineshaft, who is by AP Indy.  His dam is by Aptitude, another on of the great AP Indy.  Don’t miss out on the horse everyone wants!

OH DILLY, 2016 15.3h chestnut mare — new price!

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
Fans of liver chestnuts — take a look at the lovely Dilly, who is a great sport horse prospect! Although her racing career began auspiciously with a 14 length victory in her MSW debut, Dilly’s form has tailed off. That, combined with races in her condition not going, means that her connections are reluctantly offering her to the perfect situation for her second career. She has an enticing pedigree for sport. Her sire, Honorable Dillon is a son of Tapit — which brings in the A. P. Indy sire line — and out of a mare from the Blushing Groom line. Oh Dilly is out of a mare who brings in the Gone West, Cox’s Ridge, and In Reality sire lines. Dilly is described as athletic and easy to ride. Her build and cattiness may be attractive to barrels and polo riders but her trainer believes that she is an open book suitable for any discipline. She has good ground manners, no stable vices and her trainer has turned her out with a herd without problems. While she has plenty of energy on the track, she is reported to be “a different horse” when she is at the farm, something that is true for many racehorses. Dilly has clean legs and sports an adorable dishy head, prompting her trainer to call her a “little guernsey cow”. Serious buyers will be required to provide ironclad references.

FLIRTACIOUS KISS, 2018 16h bay filly

This very pretty filly seems to be aptly named, since her groom told us that “she likes to kiss” and is a very sweet horse.  She told us that when Flirtacious Kiss has been on her owner’s farm, she has been so well behaved that the owner.breeder, who is not particularly experienced handling horses, has had no problems bringing her in and out from turnout.  We admired Flirtacious Kiss’s elegant good looks and balanced conformation, with a  strong sloping shoulder and big chest, and her beautiful  head.  For her jog video, she was a bit up because there were horses working out on the track right next to the road where she jogged, but she showed off moments of good suspension and reach from her shoulders.   We also noticed an enlargement on one ankle that looked like an osselet; the groom reported that it does not bother Flirtacious Kiss at all; and that appears to be the case when we looked at her racing record on Equibase, since she has been racing regularly every few weeks from late 2021 throughout this year. Flirtacious Kiss has 19 starts, and while she has often finished 2d, 3rd, or 4th and has earned nearly $32,000, she has yet to win, so her owner realizes it is time to let her find a new career. Flirtacious Kiss is by Alpha, a son of Bernardini, who is by AP Indy.  Bernardini offspring have become very popular with dressage riders.  Flirtacious Kiss’s dam is by Golden Missile, a son of AP Indy.

HEADSAIL, aka “Olaf,” 2015 16.3h grey gelding

Image

Olaf is what everyone covets — grey, big, solid boned,  a sweet personality, and a good mover.  We can see him foxhunting, or eating up the cross country course, or impressing the dressage judges. Olaf raced only three times when he was three, showing no aptitude, and was diagnosed with a knee chip.  He was then trained to be a racetrack pony horse, and he has been used in that job by several different people at different tracks.  His current owner who has been using him as a pony horse describes him as a really cool guy, who is loving, likes to cuddle, loves attention and TLC. She says he has been a great pony horse, but that he started developing erratic behavior, and she recenlty fell off of him and was injured, so since hse cannot rwork as a pony rider for a while, she has to find Olaf a new home. She told us that she thinks Olaf would prefer a life where he can get turned out, and will not have to endure the repetitive daily grind of being a track pony.  She reports that he has never been spooky, and has no vices, but she says because he is a big strong horse, she thinks he would be better off with an experienced rider,  The assistant trainer in the barn that Olaf’s owner works for told us that Olaf is great to have in the barn and is a horse who goes to work every day, during morning workouts, and at the races in the afternoon, and doesn’t get tired and just does his job and gallops kindly.  Olaf has solid bone, good big feet, a strong shoulder and hind end, and a kind eye and alert expression.  The assistant trainer could not jog him because he, the human, is lame, so he handed the lead shank over to one of our volunteers, who started out gingerly handling the unfamiliar big grey horse, and then she realized he was a gentleman and she could let him trot along. Olaf showed good movement, with a strong push from behind and some loft to his step.  He has an ideal sport horse pedigree. His sire is Mizzen Mast, who is a son of Cozzene from the Caro sire line. Mizzen Mast has Ribot, Prince John, and Tom Fool close up in his pedigree — stout old thoroughbred stamina lines seen too infrequently in modern US TB pedigrees. Olaf’s dam is by Hennessy out of a Grey Dawn mare. Hennessy offspring are known for good temperaments and jumping ability. Note, that because Olaf has not raced for several years, he is not RRP eligible.

SAVANNA GAL, 2019 15.2+h dark bay filly

This young filly by the ever popular sire Bustin Stones is an excellent prospect for polo or barrels.  Her trainer describes her as quick with good early speed, sound, no vices, and a very nice girl to handle.  But Savanna has not been sustaining her early speed in her races since moving into tougher conditions after a victory in the spring, so her trainer thinks it is a good time to let her move on to a new career where her quick speed does not have to be sustained over 3/4 of a mile or longer. The trainer reports that they have scoped Savanna Gal just to make sure that there is no breathing problem that causes her not to sustain her speed, and happily she scoped completely clean — no flap issues, no mucus, no signs of any problems.  We assessed Savanna’s height as between 15.2 and 15.3, and since she is three she may grow some more, but we think she will stay in the size range preferred for polo.  On the day we photographed Savanna she had just been handwalking since her race 4 days prior, so she was a bit up in the cool fall morning air, but she was very respectful of her handler, while showing light on her feet movement. She has 13 races with one win, and she has already had ten starts this year, which shows her hardiness and durability.  Her sire Bustin Stones, by City Zip, was a champion sprinter, and he has proved to be very popular as a sire of barrel racers, since he passes his hardiness and quickness on to his offspring. Savanna’s dam is by Harlan’s Holiday, who is not only the sire of the great Into Mischief, but is also a popular sport horse sire.

NO ENTIENDO, 2013 15.3h chestnut gelding

What’s not to understand?  This wonderful handsome hunk of a war horse has captured our volunteers’ hearts, for good reason.  He is classy, sound, smart, a good mover with solid bodied balanced conformation, and is a big hearted full of try horse.  His trainer says he is a sound and happy horse, great to work with, much loved, with a great work ethic but he just hasn’t been as competitive this year against younger competition. No Entiendo has accumulated an impressive racing record, with 7 wins, 21 additional in the money finishes, and over $192,000 in earnings in 64 starts.  He does have some mild ankle rounding, but his trainer says it never bothers him, and he has raced regularly without any issues or need for time off. No Entiendo was a perfect gentleman for his photo sessions, very friendly and eager for treats.  He jogged quietly and showed balanced movement with good push from behind.  he has great potential for any new discipline. He is sired by Bellamy Road, from the Danzig sire line, who has been a good sport horse sire whose offspring have good ammy friendly brains. His dam has Dynaformer close up in her pedigree.  We would love to see someone take No Entiendo to the 2023 RRP, where we think he will be a prime contender to win the Iron Horse award!

MARSHAL DILLON, 2019 16h bay gelding

We had fun watching this adorable and very friendly young horse play with his trainer.  He posed perfectly for his photo session, showing off his strong shoulder, topline, and neckset that lead us to think he has excellent sport horse potential.  His trainer reports that he is sound with no vices, but he is still growing, and gets stiff behind after he races on the hard track surface at Finger Lakes. We saw him three days after he had raced on a hard sealed sloppy track, and he still had toe grabs on behind, which were affecting his ability to push off his hind legs on the hard pavement at the jog. His trainer thinks that with normal non-racing hind shoeing, time to finish growing, and some turnout, he is going to be just fine. He would probably benefit from some chiro work as well.  She says that he is an affectionate and playful horse, and as a three -year old he can get a bit grabby with his mouth, but he quickly stops when gently told no. Marshal Dillon is lightly raced, with only 7 starts, and he has an excellent sport horse pedigree.  His sire Honorable Dillon is by Tapit out of a mare from the Blushing Groom sire line.  Marshal Dillon’s dam is by Successful Appeal out of a Silver Deputy mare, so she is from the In Reality and Deputy Minister sire lines. Several horses that have excelled at the RRP and in sport horse careers have come from this trainer, and we can see Marshal Dillon following in their footsteps.

MY LITTLE LULU, 2018 15.3h bay filly

While My Little Lulu may not have gotten her sire Effinex’s notable size, she did absolutely inherit his good looks. While she is a bit up at the track, she is reported to be a straightforward ride that is good to gallop. She much prefers life off the track and is reported to be much quieter in her off season. She is good in turn out and with other horses. Lulu does have some rounding on her ankles but is reported sound to race on them. While she did get a bit excited for her jog video, she stood patiently for her photo shoot and soaked up the attention of our volunteers! Lulu is by Effinex , a son of Mineshaft from the AP Indy line, who has been known to throw size and ammy friendly brains, and she is out of a Lion Hearted mare.

LE GROS BILL, 2016 16h grey gelding

Le Gros Bill is the horse EVERYONE wants- sweet, kind, sound, a lovely mover, amateur friendly, and grey! Bill’s race trainer had nothing but positive things about this boy. He will do anything for a peppermint! He is reported sound, and his only vice is that he will paw for attention in his stall. He does not do this off the track. In his off season, Bill has been turned out with a mixed herd of mares and geldings with no problem. He is perfect for the farrier and vet, with the exception of IV meds. Bill does have a tooth root that is below his jaw, but it is purely cosmetic, and as it never bothered him, his trainer never had it removed. He can be led around the track without a shank and his trainer has ridden him around in a western saddle and loose ring bit. Our volunteers witnessed his easy-going manner and lovely over tracking walk during his jog video. This boy could easily go in any direction! Bill is by the coveted Mizzen Mast, from the Cozzene/Caro line, known for passing on sensible offspring with talents in the dressage and jumping arenas. He is out of a stakes winning Giant’s Causeway mare. Sport horse pedigrees don’t come much better than this!

RICHIE GOES GLOBAL, 2017 16.3h bay gelding

Richie Goes Global is as sweet as he is good looking! This gentle giant is a barn favorite, and it is easy to see why.  He offered volunteers many smooches while he politely posed for his photo shoot.  His connections report that he goes to the track without a pony and that overall, he is just a pleasure to have in the barn.  He is reported to be sound and to have no vices.  Richie was respectful and kind during his entire photoshoot, despite some other horses getting excited behind him on the walker.  Richie displayed a natural over tracking walk and a powerful hind end that would lend to lovely suspension in his gaits or easily power him over large fences.  This sensible guy could go in absolutely any direction! PAZZION, 2018 16.1h dark bay filly — new price!

Fans of Mission Impazible offspring, here is a beautiful young daughter of this outstanding sport horse sire for your consideration.  Mission Impazible offspring are known for ammy-friendly brains, athleticism, jumping ability, and a great work ethic. His Unbridled’s Song sire line is one of the best for sporting disciplines.  Pazzion is ready to find a new career because she has only one win in 20 starts, and isn’t showing enough racing ability for her trainer to keep in his overflowing string.  She is described as sound with no injuries or vices, and as a clean and neat mare who is energetic at the track but who quiets right down at the farm.  She has lovely balanced conformation with a strong shoulder and good hip angles, and her elegant pretty head adds to the attractive picture. We think when she is transitioned off the track and gets to enjoy some turn out life again, she will adapt quickly to a new career, just like most of her sire’s offspring.  To add to the attractiveness of her pedigree for sport disciplines, her dam is by Big Brown, who is from the Danzig sire line.

DONNA’SWAY, 2015 16.3h bay mare

Our volunteers really loved this sweet mare and think she will get scooped up quickly, so we suggest calling soon if she interests you. After 43 starts where she earned over $64,000 with 1 win, 7 seconds, and 7 thirds, Donna’sway is letting her connections know she has had enough of the race track. They report she is very smart and athletic. She is well behaved, but described as strong with a big stride on the track, so they feel she would be best suited for someone confident and with some experience. They could see her excelling in any sport horse discipline. Recently, Donna has started getting stressed at the track when she thinks she is going to race. This is causing her to stall walk in the early afternoons and at times, break out in hives. Her connections report at the farm , she is a totally different horse. This is quite common for horses to have a demeanor change when leaving the stressful environment of the racetrack. She settles right down when they take her out for grazing or handwalking, but they’d like her to move onto a new job where she can get turned out and not have to worry about the track. We thought her dots in her stripe were just adorable. She has a very sweet, wise expression. She was very quiet and polite for her photo shoot and job video. Donna happily grazed on a loose lead while we chatted with her connections. We think she will make someone very happy in her second career. With her build, we could see her doing well in a dressage or jumping discipline. She will be eligible for RRP 2023. Horses in this height range are always in high demand, especially at this price point, so we would act quickly on this one! Donna’sway is by Posse, who is geat sport horse sire who produces good braind athletic good jumpers, and  out of Merway, a mare by  E Dubai who was placed  into a sport horse home through our listings and has shown aptitude for dressage as well as being a great spor thorse broodmare.

STONEY’S DUE, 2018 16+h chestnut filly

Stoney’s Due is a sweet, lightly raced girl with only four lifetime starts. Her trainer reports she is a sweet girl and very athletic. She is reported to be very kind and have no stall vices. Her trainer told us Stoney would love to stand around and graze all day while simultaneously receiving lots of pets! He thinks because of her stocky build, she could be a good barrel racing prospect, but surely she could go in other directions as well. She recently (on Sept 1, 2022) clipped her left front leg and in the process, mildly bowed a tendon. She has been evaluated by a vet and provided a rehab plan. Although she is cleared to return to racing (or any other sport) after following the rehab plan, her trainer would rather her do something else not on the track. He reports that she has never been unsound on the tendon. She needs approximately 30 more days of hand walking or round pen turnout so help the tendon heal. If you’re looking for a horse for next year’s RRP-she could be a great prospect! Stoney’s Due is by Bustin Stones out of a Devil His Due mare.

OH MY BELLE, 2019 bay filly — to FLTAP

Oh My Belle just recently arrived in the Finger Lakes Area. Her connections report that while waiting for a stall to open up at the track, she was turned out in a herd at a nearby farm where she did very well! Shortly after arriving at the track, she had a hot nail during a shoeing. With the end of the meet being so near, they feel it’s best to let her move onto a different job rather than holding out for next Spring, as she wasn’t showing much interest in racing anyways. Despite being off for a few weeks, she was incredibly well behaved for her photo shoot today. She stood quietly in the wash rack while being hosed and then posed like a model while we took pictures. Her connections report she has no stall vices to report and that she is nice to handle and ride. At only three years old, she is likely to grow some more. She could be a good prospect for some time off from the track to let her finish growing, since she is still butt high. Oh My Belle will be eligible for RRP 2023. She is by Laoban, a son of Ucle Mo, out of a Dehere mare.

She is already great with a mounting block.  Volunteers admired her thick build and size, as well as her dappled coat.  Her flat kneed movement and long over tracking walk would make her really stand out in the hunter arena, but we could see her excelling in any direction someone wanted to take her.  Peaches is by Simmard who is by the very desirable sport horse sire Dixieland Band and is out of a Coronados Quest Mare. Adaydreambeliever truly is a daydream of a horse! This large young lady is reported to be sound and has no vices.  While she does have more go than whoa, she is reported to be very safe and sound.  She was a bit excited as she has been out of training for a month.  According to her connections, she is very sweet and good to be groomed and handled.  Our volunteers witnessed her loving her pre-photo shoot grooming and pets.  Her race connection, who also rides and competes off the track, sees true upper level potential in this girl in just about any discipline. While she is lovely to work with and ride, she is not recommended as a first time restart and would do best with an experienced rider.  Even with only one shoe, Adaydreambeliever demonstrated a lovely over tracking walk and a beautiful, toe pointing trot. Some of the best things come in small packages and this flashy young lady is no exception! This sweet girl begged for pets and peppermints from volunteers while her connections cleaned her up for her photo shoot. She clearly loved being groomed and getting attention, so it came as no surprise that she is her owner’s favorite! Her track connections state that if allowed, Rooski would “go sit on the couch in the office” with you, especially if you had a peppermint to offer! This lovely, lightly raced filly is reported sound and is currently barefoot. While she may be small, she does have a deep barrel and would likely take up a ton of leg! We admired her well-balanced conformation, elegant head and kind eye.  She has the look of an elegant show hunter, and she is also a nice mover with a flowing big step.  But a lighter work career, perhaps limited to flat work or low level jumping, would be best for her, since after she came up sore after her last workout at the end of August, her trainer x-rayed her knee and she has a hairline crack in the third joint.  We took her photos and video ten days after her workout, and she was very well behaved even though she had been on stall rest, and she moved welly a couple of steps that were slightly off before she leveled out.  This is a good sign for a good healing prognosis.  We had a show hunter trainer who is experienced with pony hunters and pony hunter breeding accompanying us around that track on the morning we saw Hot to Party, and she thought that Hot to Party would be an outstanding broodmare prospect  to cross with Welsh pony stallions to produce TB/Welsh cross pony hunters– an increasingly popular cross for the show ring. The trainer can make the x-rays available to seriously interested buyers.  Hot to Party’s sire, Desert Party, is by Street Cry, and he has proven to be a popular sport horse sire who gets ammy friendly offspring with good brains, good movement, and excellent jumping ability.  Her dam is by Roaring Fever out of a mare from the Majestic Prince sire line.

MADELINE SWEETIE, 2019 16.1h chestnut filly

This one is for the Smarty Jones fans! “Maddie” as she is lovingly called by her current connection, had many of our volunteers swooning today! There’s a lot to love about this sweet girl and we think she will be scooped up quickly, so act fast if she catches your eye! Maddie presented as a well put together, flashy, 3 year old filly. She is still a bit butt high, so likely still has some growing to do. Her connections report she is sound and has no vices, but has no interest in being a race horse. Although she has done some training, her times have not been fast enough to count as a workout, so she will not be eligible for RRP. Her trainer report she goes out on the track and just sort of lopes around at her own pace-just taking in the scenery and not in a hurry!  They report that she is good to work with on the ground. The trainers children have walked and groomed her. Maddie does prefer to be the first horse fed in the morning. Her connections also report she can be fussy about her hind legs for the farrier. They give her some sedative to make the experience better for her. Although she has stopped training, she was very quiet and polite during her photo shoot. At one point, our volunteer dropped a water bottle at her feet (accidently) and she didn’t even flinch. She displayed a floaty walk. She jogged on a loose lead and had a big step with lots of reach at the shoulder. We could see her being a fabulous hunter prospect, although surely she could go in other directions as well. Madeline Sweetie is by Smarty Jones out of a King Cha Cha mare.

FASTELLE, 2018 16.2h chestnut filly

While her name says fast, this sweet filly is just not keeping up with her peers this racing season. In 16 lifetime starts, she’s hit the board just three times and her connections have decided it’s time for her to find something she’s better suited at. She is described as sound, and is reported to have no vices. Fastelle showed off great manners, and excellent gaits for our volunteers, and she seems to have the makings of someone’s next great eventing or dressage prospect, although surely she could go in other directions as well. Fastelle is by Flat Out (who is a son of Flatter), out of a Came Home mare. Flatter is one of our volunteer’s favorite sires! This classy young girl with great bone and wisdom beyond her years will certainly not last long! She is RRP eligible and team FLF would be so proud to cheer her on. Call today to bring her home before the holidays set in!
Price: $3500 negotiable.

PROFUSION, 2017 15.3h bay gelding

This very well bred son of Pioneer of the Nile was a $300,000 weanling, and the obvious quality in his pedigree makes him an enticing prospect for a sport horse career.  With three wins and 8 placings in 13 starts he has shown ability and heart.  Before a recent race entry, as pat of a morning look, the state vet scratched him, which meant he had to go on the vet’s list. His trainer then had a complete vet work up including ultrasounds and everything checked out clean with no issues.  But the owner decided that rather than wait out the couple of months it would take to work him off the vet’s list, which would bring him to the end of the Finger Lakes racing season, it was best to find him a great new non-racing home for a new career.  The assistant trainer who handles him daily told us that he is a good horse to handle and work with, with no issues and no vices. He was very mellow and perfectly behaved for his photo session and jog video and showed off cute movement with a flowing big walk and a nice spring to his step at the trot. His sire, Pioneeer of the Nile, a son of Empire Maker from the Unbridled line, is very popular as a sport horse sire, known for ammy friendly offspring with good brains and kind temperaments, as well as good movement and jumping ability.  Profusion’s dam is by First Samurai, a son of Giant’s Causeway.  Profusion has unlimited potential for any discipline, and is offered at a bargain price, so act fast if you are interested in bringing this well bred son of the great Pioneer of the Nile into your stable.

BOSTON BILLY, 2017 15.2h dark bay gelding

Sometimes the best things come in small packages. For those of you of average height who do not need a big horse, but are looking for a well-bred upper level prospect that has big strided movement to equal a larger mount, Boston Billy is your horse!  We admired his athletic balanced build and shiny dappled appearance. His trainer says that Billy is a sound and happy horse.  He posed like a gentleman and jogged on a loose lead without even a chain over his nose. Billy displayed light ground covering movement with good reach from the shoulders. Billy has one win in 28 starts, has yet to hit the board in 5 races this year, and his connections realize that second win is elusive so it is best to move him on to a new career — and his potential for any new career is unlimited.  Billy’s handler describes him as a playful and smart horse, without a mean bone in his body — but he likes to test people to see what he can get away with. As soon as Billy realizes he can’t get away with something with a person, he doesn’t try it again, his handler reports. His personality means that Billy is best suited for an experienced and patient person who will firmly and confidently let Billy know they are the alpha, but without undue harshness. HIs handler says Billy would love to find his own person that he can bond with and develop mutual trust and understanding — and then he will give you his all. Billy has experience being around young kids, dogs, and lots of activity, and he is fine with all that.  His sire is Congrats, by AP Indy. Billy’s dam is by Arch, from the Kris S./Roberto sire line and a Danig and Alydar damsire line, and she is out of a Montbrook mare from the Buckpasser line.  These are stout proven sport horse lines.

Stoneharbor Blonde, 2018, 16h chestnut filly

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).
When Blondie was brought out of the barn we immediately noted her shiny coat with cute, white spots throughout, and her beautiful solid bodied build. Her handler described Blondie as very sweet and laid back, sound, good to ride and good to pony in the post parade (her handler is also her “pony girl”). Blondie has had 15 races with starts at multiple east coast tracks and has compiled a 15 2-1-2 record. Because she isn’t showing the competitive spirit needed to continue in race training, her owner has agreed to stop on her and let her find a new career.  And what unlimited potential she indeed has for a sport horse career!  Blondie displayed friendly interaction with the volunteers and jogged politely on a loose lead, showing off nice even movement. She is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP. Her sire is Speighster, a young son of the great Speightstown, from the Gone West sire line which is a great sport horse line. Deputy Minister, Bold Ruler, and Blushing Groom appear on her dam side — these are some of the best sport horse sire lines.

SPORTINI, 2018 17h bay colt

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
The quality breeding shines through in this stunning big colt, who exudes elegance. On a day when we saw one beautiful horse after another, Sportini rose to the top of the class as “the fairest of them all.” The photos do not do justice to how gorgeous this horse is in person.  He is very well put together with a chiseled beautiful head and kind eye that draws you in.  He is not studdish at all — indeed we were taken by how friendly and polite he is. He just loved the neck skritches we gave him, nuzzling for more. His groom raved about what a great horse he is, wonderful to handle with no vices. He showed off very good movement in his jog video, with a big stride and a light flatter kneed and flowing trot.  Sportini’s trainer says that his left knee gets slightly sore for a day or two after a race, so despite how well Sportini is performing he thinks it is best to find him a new career.  We photographed Sportini only three days after he had raced — and won! — and he showed no ill effects at all.  We felt both knees, and they were both cold and tight with no filling. Sportini has raced 9 times this year and has compiled an admirable record of three wins, four seconds, and a third.  His trainer reports that this excellent racing record is a testament to how much heart and try Sportini has — and he is looking to put that willing attitude to work in the new discipline of your choice! He is sired by Elusive Quality, who is from the Gone West sire line. His dam is a daughter of the great Bernardini, a son of AP Indy. Sportini comes from the top quality Godolphin breeding program.  Sportini is so well behaved as a colt that you could keep him intact and use him in sport horse breeding while also competing him — but just imagine what a glorious gelding he will be!

PRINCIPINO, 2018 16.1h dark bay colt

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
WOW– this drop dead gorgeous young colt with a great temperament,  lovely movement, and the ideal sport horse pedigree just shouts quality and potential for a sport horse career — he’s fancy enough for the show hunter ring, and has the uphill build and pedigree for eventing and jumping or dressage.  His trainer says he is very kind and not the slightest bit studdish, so you could leave him intact and use him for sport horse breeding while also competing him.  But wow what a great gelding he will be! He has a beautiful head and kind eye, uphill build with a good topline.  He is clean legged and reported to be sound.  He showed off lovely light and even movement for his jog video.  His trainer reports that the owner is overextended and has to reduce their number of horses. Principino has yet to win, but in his 9 races he has two seconds and 4 thirds.  He last raced in October 2021, so he is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP. The current trainer, who takes great are with their horses and has been the source for some of our most coveted and successful-in-new-career listings, reports that Principino came to her a couple of months ago  in less than ideal condition, barefoot and underweight. Under her great care he is filling out and has returned to health and happiness — but he still has some filling out to do. (To see how stunning he looks when fully fleshed out and shiny, see the photo that accompanies his pedigree query entry — the pedigree query entry is linked below.)  Principino is sired by Cairo Prince, who is by Pioneer of the Nile and out of a Holy Bull mare.  Cairo Prince, Pioneer of the Nile, and Holy Bull have well deserved reputations for producing excellent sport horses with great temperaments, willing attitudes, excellent movement and jumping ability.   Principino’s dam is by the recently deceased Include, a son of Broad Brush — both coveted sport horse sires. A rarity for modern US thoroughbred pedigrees, he has no Storm Cat or Mr. Prospector in the first 5 generations of his pedigree. But what you do see in those five generations are stout sport horse lines such as Unbridled, Fappiano, Holy Bull, Hail to Reason, Turn-To,  and Damascus.

PRAYIN ON CURRENCY, 2019 16+h bay colt

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Thie big good looking young bay guy is affectionately known as “Curtis,” and he completely stole the hearts of our volunteers. On a day when we saw many great looking and great moving horses, Curtis won the coveted title of “volunteer favorite.”  Curtis has excellent solid bodied conformation, with an adorable face, strong shoulder and hind end, good neck set and top line.  His trainer reports that he is sound; his left hind ankle is slightly enlarged, but it has been x-rayed clean with no calcification or any limitations; the trainer says it may be congenital or perhaps from something when he was a baby.  Curtis has 8 races, 6 this year, and he has only a single third place finish to show for his efforts. His trainer reports that during the speed and stress of racing jockeys retport that he gets short of breath. He was scoped, and has a paralyzed flap.  But the trainer also gallops him, and reports that he can gallop long distances with no breathing or endurance issues at all, and he never makes a noise.  So they are confident that he will have no limitations for any sport horse discipline — and they also say Curtis is great to ride.  For his video Curtis displayed lanky big strided movement. HIs trainer reports that he is a very kind horse who is easy to handle and has no vices, and is not the slightest bit studdish.  Sounds like Curtis will be a dreamboat gelding!  His pedigree is replete with sires well known for producing great sport horses with good brains. He is by Songandaprayer, a son of Unbridled’s Song.  Curtis’ dam is by Currency Swap, whose sire High Cotton is known for producing the kindest and willing jumpers, eventers, and show hunters.   Dixie Union, Smoke Glacken, Two Punch, Broad Brush, Halo, Fappiano, and Danzig are other top sport horse sires in his pedigree.

POOKIELICIOUS, 2019 16.1h chestnut filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Who can resist a gorgeous horse with the name Pookielicious?!  She is as adorable and delectable as her name indicates.  She is beautiful, with a huge strong shoulder and conformation that shouts sport horse potential.  Her trainer raves about what a sweet, kind horse she is –“she is so cool,” she exclaimed. Pookie was very chill and laid back for her photo session, as she stood around just soaking up the sun and our attention.  Her trainer says she is always kind and well behaved. But she is just not showing enough racing ability to persist in that endeavor…. but she sure does have unlimited potential for any new career.  Indeed, in the group f our volunteers who saw her, we had a dressage rider, a show hunter rider, and an eventer, and we all said “we love her!”  She has 7 starts — 4 this year — with one win and one second.  She is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  Pookie is clean legged and her trainer reports that she is sound with no vices.  For her jog video she showed off very good movement that suggests a dressage or eventing career might be just up her alley. Her sire Bethel is a son of Pulpit (AP Indy), and her dam is from MIswaki and Wild Again lines.  We would love to cheer Pookie on in the RRP next year — we can see her excelling in any of the disciplines!

HENNY HEFNER, 2014 15.3h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
Are you looking for a great brained, kind, willing, been-there-done-that horse with good movement and a loving personality who can go in any direction for a new career? If so, then the adorable and much loved Henny Hefner is your horse! His trainer raved about what a kind solid citizen Henny is — she says she thinks he could be a good horse for someone new to restarting OTTBs because he is so level headed and easy going.  Henny Hefner has 7 wins in his racing career, including one this year, but lately he is letting his trainer know that he would prefer not to be a racehorse anymore.  He certainly deserves the opportunity to show his talents in new endeavors, and to be a pampered best friend.  His trainer reports that Henny is sound, and his legs show just some mild ankle rounding, which is hardly surprising for a war horse. We felt his ankles, and they were tight and cold.  Henny has an endearing face, and solid bodied conformation with a strong hind end.  He showed very nice flowing and even movement for his jog video.    He is sired by Henny Hughes, who is known for producing great brained kind and willing horses with big hearts.  His dam is by City Zip, another sought after sport horse sire also known for good brained willing offspring.  We think that Henny Hefner is a true gem, who has many good years in him to reward his new person.

REV IT UP, 2020 15.3h bay gelding

REV IT UP, 2020 15.3h bay gelding
Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)
When this young guy jogged off for his video, our jaws dropped. Wow, our volunteers exclaimed — look at that suspension! What a fancy mover — and what unlimited potential for a sport horse career! Rev it Up is unraced, and his trainer has concluded that she cannot get him ready to race at Finger Lakes, because he does not like the stick and she says all the available exercise riders are overly reliant on the stick in her opinion, and will not breeze or gallop without it. She says he is sound and an easy keeper who loves to eat — and his solid bodied physique bears that out. She says he is a very sweet young horse with no vices, and he was certainly friendly with our volunteers.  We noted his solid bodied balanced build an strong hind end and shoulder.  Hs legs are clean, but we noted that he does have a clubbed left front foot, His trainer says he has had zero soundness issues. He was barefoot and jogged soundly with WOW movement. He showed off great loft and suspension with hind end engagement and push, and an even rhythm.  In the group of volunteers and shoppers who saw him, we had a dressage rider, two show hunter riders, and an eventer, and all of us were drooling and saying he could excel in our disciplines.  Give him time to grow up and physically mature, and we think he can turn out to be an upper-level prospect in multiple sport horse disciplines. He is sired by Frank Conversation, a young son of Quality Road (Elusive Quality/Gone West) out of a mare from Awesome Again (Deputy Minister) and Capote (Seattle Slew) lines.  If you are looking for an exciting upper-level prospect and have the patience and experience to let a young horse mature, Rev It Up is one you should seriously consider.  And he is offered at a bargain price for a horse of his gorgeous movement and potential!

ISABELLA’S MAGIC, 2016 17h bay gelding

Here’s another dappled, tall, thick, sweet gelding that everyone searches for. Isabella’s Magic has looks and personality for days. He entertained our volunteers for 10 minutes while his stablemate was bathed for his photoshoot, insisting on pats, scratches, and kisses. He is also reported to be as good to ride as he is on the ground. According to his trainer, he retired sound. He is currently missing his hind shoe, however, so we were unable to get a jog video. His trainer reported that he is a bit “high” right now as he has been out of work for a few weeks, but at home on the farm, her kids handle him. It is reported that while at the track he does dig in his stall lightly, but that is his only vice. Because we were not able to get a jog video, his trainer sent us a video of him walking to the training track and a gallop video from the track. Our dressage oriented volunteer was drooling over that canter! Isabella’s Magic is by Street Magician, who is a son of Street Cry out of a Meadowlake mare. Isabella’s Magic’s dam is by Valley Crossing, from the Private Account/Damascus sire line, and out of a mare from the Fappiano sire line. Don’t let this one get away!

His trainer reported that he is very easy to get along with, clean in his stall, and just an all around solid citizen.  Gratto was eating up the attention from our volunteers, offering his nose for kisses and pets! He is reported to be a bit strong at the track while in training, but completely relaxes while at the farm. He has been in turn out with other horses and loves it.  Gratto is currently barefoot behind.  Gratto Swing is by Bank Heist who is by the very desirable Maria’s Mon, who’s offspring have found success in many second careers. D’FUNNY KITTY, 2019 15.1h bay filly

They say good things come in petite packages, and this lovely young lady is a testament to that! Through no fault of her own, she did not race as the trainer could not find an exercise rider, but she is race trained and reported lovely and straightforward to ride.  This girl didn’t want to do anything other than snuggle the volunteers- even while jogging!  Kitty is reported sound and without vices. She was lovely and kind to volunteers in her stall.  This lovely girl is a clean slate and ready to be someone’s next sport horse partner! Kitty is by D’Funny Bone and out of a Gold Token mare.

STUARTEE, 2020 16.3h bay gelding

Stuartee is a beautiful and very big young horse with a very desirable sport horse pedigree, and since it is obvious that he would rather put his big strided lovely gallop to good use over cross country courses or hunter courses than in trying to muster the speed needed for the dirt track sprints that predominate at Finger Lakes Race Track, his wonderful track connections have decided not to push him into trying to be a racehorse. He is a blank slate to develop your way once you give him time to finish growing  — who knows how big he will wind up, given that he has been taped at 16.3h already! He is solid boned and well balanced, with a great shoulder and strong hind end.  He is clean legged and sound, and he has also been scoped and everything is clean.  He has had two timed workouts, and showed that he just doesn’t want to go fast enough to make it in racing — but thanks to those timed and published workouts he will be fully eligible for the 2023 and 2024 RRP. His trainer says he is a good to handle and has no vices, and she stressed that his gallop is lovely, light and rhythmical — the sort that you can ride all day.  The video of him galloping on the track was taken in June, in only his second time on the track (he is the bay horse on the inside).  Stuartee is by Greek Sun, who is a son of Danzig and raced in long distance turf races — a good trait for cross country. His dam Single Malt Female, who we recall as a hardknocking durable racemare at Finger Lakes, is from Skip Trial/Damascus and Halo lines, with Northern Dancer and Majestic Prince further back.  Stuartee’s pedigree is full of turf and stamina oriented thoroughbred lines — the type of old school TB pedigree made for sporting disciplines.

DON’TMAKEAZEEN, 2019 15.3h bay filly

When you are this pretty you do want to make a scene!  This still growing young filly is lightly raced, sound and clean legged, and a cute mover.  In her 7 races she has shown no interest in running well — but with her good looks and excellent sport horse pedigree we can see her excelling in any new discipline.  She is fully eligible for the RRP, and since she is still a bit butt high she should continue to grow. Her trainer describes her as sound with no stall vices, a filly who is good to handle but can feel good when she hasn’t done much recent work reports that she can be sensitive to grooming –as he says, she “makes faces,”  but doesn’t do anything bad.  She displayed light even movement with good push from behind for her jog video.  Her sire is Indian Ocean, a son of Stormy Atlantic out of a Halo mare.  We have placed some Indian Ocean offspring who have proven to be athletic jumpers and eventers, and Stormy Atlantic is a popular sport horse sire as well.  Zeen’s dam Queen of Zee Nile is by Pioneer of the Nile, from the Empire Maker branch of Unbridled. These are also popular sport horse sire lines.

CANDYROCK, 2015 16.1h chestnut gelding

Candyrock impressed us with his balanced conformation and intelligent kind personality.  His trainer says that he is a very classy and sound horse who has a willing attitude, is happy to train, and never does anything wrong.  He has such a sensible professional attitude that the trainer sends him to the track for training and for racing without a pony horse. The owner/trainer says that because Candyrock is so athletic and well balanced, he is confident that he will be an outstanding jumper. We observed Candyrock being groomed for his photo session, and he stood like a perfect gentleman in his stall while being curried and brushed and was not even tied up.  Candyrock is currently running well in allowance level races, but his owner/trainer is looking ahead to the end of the Finger Lakes racing season when he would like to fully retire from the racing game — and thus retire Candyrock to a new career.  Candyrock has unlimited potential for any new discipline.  He displayed very nice even light movement for his jog video.  Note that the listed price for Candyrock reflects his current racing level; as the end of the Finger Lakes season gets closer the price for a non-racing new career may well become more negotiable. Candyrock is by Sidney’s Candy, who is a son of the great Candy Ride who is from the Cryptoclearance branch of the Fappiano sire line. Candyrock’s dam Untainted is by Speightstown out of Saint Ballado mare with Key to the Mint as her damsire.  These Gone West/Halo/Ribot sire lines are coveted in sport horse disciplines.

IRISH MARAUDER, 2014 16.1h chestnut gelding

The owner/trainer describes the gorgeous Irish Marauder as the type of horse that everyone wants and needs:  “he’s sound, he’s safe, he has a great mind, he has a great work ethic, he’s smart, he’s a happy horse” — the trainer raved on and on about his beloved guy.  He told us that Irish Marauder has the best personality of any horse he has ever owned –“he’s just a super cool horse,” he exclaimed.  Irish Marauder is a lovely mover, light, springy with the slow lofty cadence that should do well in dressage or in the hunter under saddle arena.  The trainer reports that he has some old osselets that he’s had for years, but is sound.  Irish Marauder hasn’t raced in a couple of years but has regular published workouts for 2021 and 2022, so he is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  The trainer says he just hasn’t had any help with his small stable to get him to the races, and that he fears losing him to a claim if he raced him at the level where he could win. Irish Marauder enjoys his turn out time at the trainer’s farm, and he is reported to be great to handle in all situations.    He is by Dublin, a son of Afleet Alex.  We have placed several Dublin offspring who are succeeding in eventing and as show hunters — they tend to be excellent brave jumpers and  good movers, and Afleet Alex is known for passing along a great brain. Irish Marauder’s dam is by Stephen Got Even, an AP Indy son who also has successful eventing offspring that we know of.

LIZZYLIES, 2018 15.3h bay filly

The trainer of this lovely young daughter of Overanalyze couldn’t stop raving about how sweet she is.  “Sweet as apple pie,” “she does everything perfect,” “one of the sweetest and kindest horses I’ve ver had”  were the things he kept saying about Lizzy.  Lizzy is unraced, but she has been working out regularly, so she is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  The trainer says that the only reason she is unraced is that he has been unable to get any help for his small stable,  including regular exercise riders, and that while she is just a couple of breezes away from being conditioned enough to race, he wants to retire from  training racehorses. He states that Lizzy is very sound, and we observed very clean legs.  Lizzy posed quietly on a loose lead, and jogged slowly and politely, showing a nice reach to her trot.  We can see her succeeding in the show hunter ring with her laid back attitude and very nice movement. Because Lizzy is such a sweetheart, he would love to see her become the pet of a horse crazy girl — working with a trainer to restart her for a new discipline of course. Her sire Overanalyze is a popular sport horse sire, and his sire Dixie Union and grandsire Dixieland Band are also admired in the sport horse world. This is a sire line known for good brained kind horses.  Lizzy’s dam I’d Lie is by Songandaprayer, who is a son of Unbridled’s Song.

LA RUBIA, 2016 16.1h chestnut mare

This solid-bodied daughter of Drosselmeyer out of a Giant’s Causeway dam impressed us with her uphill build, strong shoulder and hind end, and lovely movement. Her trainer describes her as a very sound mare with clean legs and no vices, but she is just too slow to continue racing. She has had 20 starts, with 2 wins, one second, and 2 thirds. She has three races this year, so she is fully eligible for the 2023 RRP.  Her trainer said La Rubia is good to handle but she can get excited when she knows it is race time.  She reports that La Rubia has good energy and likes to work, and does what is asked of her. La Rubia was perfectly behaved for her photo session, posing perfectly while unbothered by a bee buzzing around her.  She jogged politely on a loose lead and displayed light ground-covering movement with a good push from behind.  We can see her succeeding in dressage, eventing, or H/J.  She has an excellent sport horse pedigree. Her sire Drosselmeyer, who is by Forty Niner, is in select company with AP Indy and American Pharoah as one of only 3 horses to win the Belmont and the Breeders’ Cup Classic.  A mare of this quality offered at a bargain price won’t last long, so don’t hesitate to call about her.

SARATOGA PRINCESS, 2019 15.3h bay filly

This beautiful filly is lightly raced, well bred, and described as super sweet and cuddly in her stall.  We were taken in by her lovely face and her friendly personality.  She has had only 4 starts; after breaking her maiden she is showing that the next level of competition is too steep for her, so her connections want to move her on to a new career. She has unlimited potential for any direction you want to go with her. Her handler reports that she is well behaved, good to handle with no vices, very sound, and her legs are very clean.  For her jog video she displayed very nice light movement with excellent springy push from behind.  She is by Laoban, who is a son of Uncle Mo out of a Speightstown mare.  Her dam, Betty Baroness, is by the great Smarty Jones, and out of a mare from the Chief’s Crown/Danzig line. Saratoga Princess is still a bit butt high, a good sign that she is going to grow some more as she physically matures.  This lovely sweetheart is offered at an enticing bargain price to ensure that she quickly finds a good new home, so do not hesitate to reach out to the contact person if you are interested, because we think she will go fast.

BELLAMY’S TREASURE, 2017 17h dark bay gelding

For those of you who are looking for a HUGE horse but only have a small horse budget, here is your Treasure!  Bellamy’s Treasure is ready to move on to a new career because in 24 starts he has managed only one win, and in his 5 races this year he has yet to finish better than 4th.   His trainer reports that he is sound, and has old set osselets that do not bother him.  We photographed him a couple of days after he had raced and he was none the worse for wear. He was very laid back and jogged quietly, showing off a flowing big walk and a trot with a slow rhythmic cadence. HIs handler reports that Bellamy’s Treasure does not have a mean bone in his body, has no vices, but that he can be a bit quirky — as she described it while he is not a nervous horse, he occasionally can be a bit spooky when encountering something unexpected. Because of this and his size, he is best suited for an experienced rider/retrainer, who can help him build his confidence when confronting new situations.  He is sired by Bellamy Road, who is from the Chief’s Crown/Danzig sire line.  His dam, Pulpit’s Treasure, is by Pulpit out of a Meadowlake mare.  These lines, which include AP Indy, Cozzene, IN Reality, Hold Your Peace, and Stop the Music/Hail to Reason, are good stout sport horse lines. Bellamy’s Treasure has no limitations for any new discipline.  He is offered at an enticing bargain price simply because this barn prices all of their horses at this level so that they quickly find great new homes — and they will interview you and make sure you are a good and suitably experienced home and like to sell to people who keep them updated on their former racers.

CECIL’S COMET, 2017 17.1h bay mare

Located on a farm right next to the Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)
If you are looking for a very big, beautiful, sweet, lovely mover who is unraced, fully let down and ready to get going in a new sport horse career, you should snap up Cecil’s Comet!  She had our volunteers who saw her exclaiming about what a lovely horse she is, and then when we saw her move we got even more excited about her. Cecil’s Comet is described as a very sweet, willing girl with no vices and who is not marish at all.  She is hanging out on a farm,  barefoot, where she turns out well with other horses, and she would love to have a job.  Her handler said that occasionally people come to ride her, and she is the kind of horse that can sit for a few weeks, get a brief lunge, and then hop on and she will quietly walk, trot canter around,  While she is very green, riders report that she is very willing and wants to understand what the rider is asking, and quickly figures out things like moving off the leg.  Cecil’s Comet in unraced because when she was in training as a two year old she got a mild bow — which was fully rehabbed and causes no issues, and her leg was nice and tight. She is cleared to do anything. But for the past couple of years she has passed through different owners, none of whom was in a position to put her into race training. Cecil’s Comet showed off a big flowing walk with a good overstep, and a lofty trot with a rhythmic cadence.  This mare is indeed far too nice to be a pasture pet — we can see her going far in dressage, eventing, or hunters.  She is by Desert Party, a son of Street Cry.  We know of Desert Party offspring who have gone on to successful careers as sport horses. Her dam is by River Keen, who was a top sport horse and steeplechase sire in his day. She has His Majesty/Ribot and Hail to Reason in her female family as well.

KATIE’S COURAGE, 2018 16+h dark bay filly

If you’re looking for an extremely well put together sweetheart of a filly with outstanding sport horse potential, look no further. This lovely young girl is reported sound and still running well but has run out of conditions that her trainer feels she can succeed in, so they would rather let her go on to a second career. Our volunteers were wowed by her lovely conformation and dappled coat that shone in the sun. She was extremely sweet during her photo shoot, seeking pats and smooches. Her connections report that that she is always this way in and out of her stall, and if possible, even sweeter on the farm. She was great in turn out, middle of the pack in a large group of mares. They rave about her manners at the track, stating she’s very clean in her stall, has excellent manners and is very patient. There were not enough positive things that this lovely girl’s track connections could say about her! For her jog video Katie’s Courage displayed very nice even flat kneed movement with good reach and good push from behind. Katie’s Courage is by Flat Out who is a son of the much sought after late Flatter who is known to throw size, substance and excellent ammy friendly brains. She is out of a Giant’s Causeway mare, who is known for throwing incredible movement and jumping ability. Her dam also has Unbridled’s Song and Deputy Minister lines. Overall, a sport horse pedigree that can’t be beat. This girl is the entire package!

BISTRITA, 2019 15.2h chestnut filly

Our volunteer who took the photos of the adorably cute Bistrita reports that the filly just wanted to snuggle with her and get pats and attention. Bistrita’s owner, who also gallops her, says she is a smart filly, sound and good to work with, and that she has no vices. He states that she can be on her toes if she hasn’t done anything for a few days, but she settles right into her work. She has ten starts, with one win and 4 additional pla
cings.  Her owner wants to return to Belmont in September, and he knows that Bistrita will not be competitive on that tougher NYRA circuit, so he would like to find her a new career now.  We photographed her just a couple of days after she raced on August 2, and showing her durability, she is entered again on Tuesday August 16. But then she will be ready to move on.  With her smaller stature Bistrita should appeal to polo people, but with her sweet personality she could also make a great horse for a kid working with a trainer.  She is a well bred young filly who sold for $90,000 as a weanling.  Her sire is Gormley, a young son of Malibu Moon.  Her dam is by Giant’s Causeway out of a mare from the Mt. Livermore/Blushing Groom line.  These are great sport horse sires in her pedigree.

MISS MAMBA, 2018 15.2h chestnut filly

If oh so sweet and pretty are what you like, then the adorable Miss Mamba is for you!  After starting her racing career with a win on the turf in her very first race, Miss Mamba has not reached the winner’s circle since in 13 subsequent races, traveling around from tracks in KY, Louisiana, Florida, PA,and now NY, running on turf, dirt and synthetic.  While she has earned several checks for second, third, and fourth place finishes — showing her hard trying heart — her connections realize that rather than continuing to drop her down the class ladder just to try to get a second win, it is far  better to let her find her niche in a new career where someone will be richly rewarded by forming a loving partnership with this sweet filly.  Her trainer raved about how sweet and kind she is — the trainer reports that Miss Mamba is so easy to work with, is a loving sweetheart, clean legged and sound, neat in her stall, without any vices. The trainer thinks that Miss Mamba could be an ideal horse for a child or teen  working with a trainer in a professional program. She thinks Miss Mamba would love to be doted on by a horse loving kid! For her jog video Miss Mamba politely trotted on a loose lead and displayed a very cute flowing trot.  Miss Mamba is sired by Include, a son of Broad Brush out of a Stop the Music (Hail to Reason) mare.  Include is known for siring ammy friendly horses with great brains and aptitude for sporting disciplines. Miss Mamba’s dam is by Gilded Time, who is by Damascus — another sire line known for good jumpers. For those who do not need a big horse, we think Miss Mamba is an excellent sport horse prospect — but she wold also be perfectly happy being a trail partner and pleasure horse.  She just wants to love you and for you to love her!

PEPPER KING, 2019 15.2+h bay gelding

This cute and stocky young guy has shown no aptitude for racing  — in 5 starts he has enjoyed the view from the back of the pack.  But he has unlimited potential for any new career.  His trainer says that he is mentally and physically immature — she says that he wants to try to take in everything but has not yet learned to focus.   The jolly ball — yes!  Oh, but that toy — yes!  Oh, and that nice person over there– yes! She says he is very sweet and sound and there is not a mean bone in his body, but he needs a patient person who can let him physically and mentally mature — and then that lucky person is going to have a great horse.  His sire is Majestic City, a son of City Zip.  One of our volunteers has a Majestic City offspring who also came off the track as a 3yo with a similar “rear view” record in 5 starts, also physically and mentally immature, with a similar lack of focus; a year later he has proven to be the sweetest and most willing horse with a lot of jumping talent and good movement. He has been brought along in a patient professional program that has given him time off during his growth spurts ( he grew from 15.3 to 16.1+ in 9 months!), and he has blossomed into an exciting show hunter prospect who shows exponential improvement and focus from each new experience. Other people that we know with Majestic City offspring report similar experiences — they need time to grow physically and mentally, they are naturally inclined to be very sweet and willing and laid back, and they just get better and better from each training session.   So Pepper King’s ideal new home is with a patient experienced person who will give him time to mature, knowing of the great potential that is worth bringing along the right way.  And if brought along properly in this situation, he is likely to wind up being a great all-around or kid’s horse. With Pepper King’s stocky smaller build, he looks like a horse with great potential for barrels… but other Majestic City offspring are also showing great jumping talent. Pepper King’s dam is from Blushing Groom and Fappiano lines, which are coveted in the sport horse world.

DEACON ELI, 2019 15.3h chestnut gelding

Here is a young still growing gelding with excellent conformation, an outstanding sport horse pedigree, and a kind temperament that his owner describes as a “true gentleman.”  We listed Eli last fall at the end of the Finger Lakes racing season, when he was still an unraced 2yo, and there was a lot of interest in him.  But his owner decided to overwinter him in the hopes of racing him this year.  Over the winter he found a small chip in Eli’s knee, not in the joint, and sent him to Cornell to have it successfully removed.  Eli was carefully and properly rehabbed, and vet cleared to do anything.  He was put back into full race training and galloped and breezed without any issues and never shoed any signs of soreness.  Eli had his one and only race at the end of May; as the replay shows, he broke well and showed good early speed, but then was checked and stumbled, and the jockey pulled him up.  He came back fine with nothing at all amiss.  But his owner decided that was it for Eli’s racing career — his beloved horse seems so much better suited for a different career. Eli’s connections report that he is great to work with and handle and has no vices — unless you count begging for treats and attention.  He is reported to be particularly found of bananas!  Eli has siblings who are much bigger, and matured late, so we think he still has some growing to do.  Eli has a great pedigree for sporting disciplines.  His sire Beautyinthepulpit is by Pulpit — a son of AP Indy — out of a Deputy Minister mare with Damascus close up in her pedigree.  His dam, Cleopatra’s Needle,  by the great Smart Strike, is not only from the best female family in Canadian TB breeding, but she is also is a sister to the dam of a wonderful horse owned by one of our volunteers — a horse who is an unflappable sweetheart and an amazing all-around horse competing in eventing, jumpers, dressage, and a rockstar on hunter paces and on the trails.  If ELi turns out anything like his “cousin,” he will be the horse of a lifetime for the lucky new owner.

TIJUANA FLAIR, 2018 16h bay filly — to FLTAP

This sweet girl is relatively lightly raced with only 10 starts. She has 2 wins in those starts, but has not hit the board at all this year, so her connections are ready to move her onto a new career. Tijuana Flair sold for $95,000 as a weanling and she is very well bred, so there is definitely broodmare potential for her given her quality bloodlines. Her trainer reported she is super sweet and she was very well mannered during her photo shoot today. She is reported to have no stall vices. Her trainer reports she is very well behaved for the exercise rider. Over the winter, she was turned out in a round pen. We loved her stocky build which will suit a longer legged rider well! Her trainer reported that she had some swelling surrounding her suspensory after her last race which was just 4 days prior to our photo session, but was never unsound. She was vet checked and cleared for any discipline going forwards. Her leg was fine on the day we photographed her. She will be eligible for RRP. Tijuana Flair is by Awesome Again, who is from Deputy Minister and Blushing Groom lines, and her dam is by Tiznow out of a marefrom the Caro sire line. Tijuana Flair’s dam is a full sister to a multiple graded stakes winning millionaire, and her second dam is a multiple stakes winner. Both Awesome Again and Tiznow are renowned racng broodmare sires, and also coveted sires in the sport horse world. So her pedigree makes her a very attractive prospect for sport, and for breeding for racing or sport.

DIVA’S RED DEVIL, 2019 16.1h chestnut filly

This gorgeous, flashy homebred is very near and dear to her connections, so the very best of homes is an absolute must. They can tell you everything you could possibly want to know about Diva and will happily answer questions to ensure she is going to a perfect fit. Diva is described as very sweet, easy going girl who wants to please. She sounds like she has seen just about everything in her short life. She is very brave-nothing fazes her. Her connections report she is good for the vet and farrier, loads easily, and enjoys the swimming pool. She bonded with the mini pony over the winter and also was a big fan of the pet cow, who she would snuggle with over the fence. Diva did well in turnout over the winter. When preparing to come back to the track in the spring, she was ridden frequently in the indoor arena. They report she is great to ride. Her connections report she is a distance girl and can go all day long-so she may be a good fit for eventing, but certainly she could go in many different directions. Her connections report she has never had any soundness issues. She has some very mild ankle rounding which her connections x-rayed. Her xrays were clean and nothing was found. The xrays are available to interested parties. She has no stall vices. Diva is letting her connections know that racing is not her thing during her workouts and training. She is not raced, but will be eligible for RRP due to her official workouts. If you are looking for a project that should transition easily to post track life, this could be your girl! She is a blank slate that is sure to turn heads wherever she goes. We loved the flaxen coloring in her mane and tail which has to be seen in person to truly appreciate. She has gorgeous dapples. It is obvious that Diva has been pampered and loved! Diva has an excellent pedigree for sporting disciplines. She is by Encaustic, who is a son of Broad Brush out of a Stop the Music (Hail to Reason) mare — Encaustic is a full brother to Include, who is a great sport horse sire. Diva’s dam is by Indy King, a son of AP Indy, and is out of a mare from Fappiano and In Reality bloodlines.
