KREESA LA WROTE, 2018 16.1+h bay mare

Located on a farm in Avon NY (half hour from the track)

What a gorgeous mare — the photos hardly do her justice. Her trainer says she’s as sweet as she is pretty. She describes Kreesa as having “the best disposition, a lovebug who loves her treats.”  She says she is easy to groom and handle, has no vices, and is up to date on all vaccinations.  And to make the whole package even more enticing, Kreesa has a stellar sport horse pedigree, and showed beautiful movement for her jog video, with a flowing walk and great reach to her flat kneed trot that should earn ribbons in the hunter ring. Earlier in her racing career, Kreesa showed the class to win and compete well at the maiden special/allowance level at Saratoga and Belmont, running on the turf.  She has won over $100,000 in only 16 starts.  At the end of the 2021 racing season, her owner/breeders decided to retire her and found her a home that didn’t work out.  So they sent her to a farm, where she hung out for almost a year and a half.  Then they decided to try to race her again this year, since she was sound, and sent her to Finger Lakes.  But after getting a taste of the farm life, Kreesa has made it clear in her four races this year that she just doesn’t want any part of the racing game anymore. But these four starts this year make her fully eligible for the 2024 RRP! We photographed her a week after her last race, which was at Saratoga. She is sired by Wrote, a Sadler’s Wells grandson out of a Danig line mare.  Some of the leading OTTB resellers who focus on the eventing market covet Wrote offspring, who are known for great brains, athleticism and jumping ability. Her dam, Lady Kreesa, is by Stonesider, a son of Giant’s Causeway, who is also a popular sport horse sire.

SHARPOON, 2019, 15.3 h bay gelding

Located at a farm in Newark NY

Update January 2024: Sharpoon is at a farm in Newark NY, not far from the Finger Lakes Race Track, for the winter. He is being restarted under saddle, and is proving to be very sweet, very quiet, and a quick learner. For his first ride, on a cold day when he hadn’t done anything for a month, he stood quietly at the mounting block, and walked and trotted around quietly, showing an unflappable demeanor. The person who is restarting him says he is an absolute pleasure to ride.

Here is our write up from the track in the fall of 2023:

We were amused when this cute boy was described by his trainer as a being a complete “slouch” on the track — he told us that Sharpoon is sweet and sound, but slow, slow, SLOW.  While he may not be earning his keep as a racehorse, all of the volunteers agreed that for us, “sweet, sound, and slow” hits the trifecta every time in a new career! The trainer says that Sharpoon is “nice to work with”, without any vices,  and that he is sound without any injuries, but that he is just WAY too slow to be a racehorse. Which is exactly what most of us are looking for- a nice young quiet lightly raced gelding whose connections tell us has no limitations for his future. And he’s fully eligible for the 2024 RRP! He is solidly put together, with a nice long, sloping shoulder and a compact build. He was relaxed and perfectly agreeable posing quietly for us on a rainy, chilly and blustery day. He has a cute face with a unique, almost heart-shaped star. He perked up a little for his video but was polite for his handler. Although he was missing his RH shoe which is less than ideal for filming, it didn’t significantly seem to affect his movement jogging on the hard pavement. We observed a nice, forward walk and an easy jog displaying cute, smooth movement. With his distinct shade of light blood-bay, Sharpoon will help you stand out in any show ring. We can imagine him having a successful second career in a variety of different fields. Sharpoon is by Gormley (Malibu Moon/ A.P. Indy line),  and his dam Ganesha is by Sharp Humor , a son of Distorted Humor.  His dam also has the Private Terms/Private Account sire line in her female family — one of the most sought after sport horse sire lines.

AMERICAN A P, 2020 16.2h bay gelding

Located on a farm next to the Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY

American A P offers what so many people say they are looking for: a young, big, sound, quiet and unflappable, good moving gelding who has unlimited potential for any new discipline. After just three lackluster races earlier this year, it was apparent to American A P’s connections that racing was not his strong suit, so he went to the owner’s farm which happens to be right next to the Finger Lakes Race Track. His trainer, who also rides and gallops him on the track, reports that he is just wonderful to ride, very sensible, attentive, respectful, and willing to do whatever you ask. Indeed,  when he was still on the track, his trainer knew that he was such a steady and levelheaded guy that he used him to pony back from the starting gate a young filly who had a meltdown at the gate.  A P was just the right guy to reassure her and accompany her safely back to the barn — amazing for a horse who was then just three years old!  We were told that American A P loads and trailers well, and is good in turn out with others, although he is playful.   Indeed, after his photo session, he was immediately turned out into a pasture with several other horses, and we observed him happily playing  –nothing unduly rough– with another gelding before both just decided to graze. American A P is a very easy keeper on the farm, and since he has been on the farm, he has been barefoot, and his feet have held up well. Once he is put back into work at least front shoes are recommended.  For his jog video, barefoot on uneven pavement, and with horses running in the pasture next to him, he was very well behaved, and displayed very good movement with good hind end engagement.  He has an ideal sport horse pedigree, with A P Indy and QuietAmerican lines, as indicated by his name. He is sired by Dr. Large, a son of A P Indy out of a mare from Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, and Buckpasser lines. His dam is by Quiet American, a Fappiano son whose offspring are sought after in the eventing world.

RINGGOOD, 2017 16.2+h bay gelding

Located on a farm next to the Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY

Big, kind, friendly, elegant, a great mover, sound, and with an adorable spotted blaze on his face — Ringgood is all that and more! When his connections first told us about him, they said he was one of the best upper level sport horse prospects that they had ever had, and that meant a lot, since over the years we have helped them place several horses into intermediate and upper level eventing careers. Ringgood is very special to his trainer, since Ringgood was his first racehorse when he decided to go out on his own, and he said that Ringo, as they call him, has been a steady, sound, friendly, and always hard trying horse for him.  His young son is especially fond of Ringo, and it was very touching as we took his listing to see the father explain to the heart-broken boy that it would be better for their beloved Ringo to let him find a new career that he loved and would be successful at. We were told that Ringo is very sound, has good feet, no vices, is good to handle, and while a forward ride, he is very respectful of his rider. While racing regularly, he could get stiff for a few days after a race, but warmed up out of it quickly.  When we saw him and took his video, he showed no stiffness at all, and moved very freely from his shoulders with good hind end engagement — he’s a very good mover for sure! While Ringo had good racing success in prior years, this year, he has only a single third place finish in 11 starts, so his connections know it is time to let him move on from racing into a new career.  Ringgood is by Teuflesberg, who is from Hennessy, Devil’s Bag and Halo lines. HIs dam is by Mizen Mast, who is from the Cozzene/Caro sire line.  Those who follow TB lines that make good sport horses will truly appreciate this guy’s pedigree.

PUZZLE, 2020 15.2h dark bay filly

Located on a farm in Victor NY very close to Finger Lakes Race Track.

There’s nothing puzzling at all to figure out about this cutie!  She’s sweet, well behaved, an all-around good girl to handle and work with, sound and clean legged, and WOW is she well bred, coming from one of the greatest female families in the US TB stud book. Puzzle has nicely balanced conformation with a strong shoulder and deep girth, and she is still growing and likely to wind up bigger than her current height. Her trainer reports that Puzzle is very sound, and we observed clean legs. Lightly raced, with 1 win and 3 thirds in 7 starts, Puzzle won at the MSW level last year, but has not run well in her 2 races this year, so the owner does not want to keep going with her. Puzzle was very well behaved, curious and cuddly for her photo session on a brisk very cold morning, and we had a young teenager with us who asked if she could handle Puzzle, and then walked and jogged her and ran her hands all over her and snuggled with her and then rewarded her perfect behavior with many much-appreciated peppermints. Puzzle has no limitations for any new discipline. She showed very nice light and balanced movement for her jog video. With her smaller stature she could do polo or barrels, but she will grow and could also be a great H/J or eventing prospect for a teen or smaller adult working with a trainer.  But we also think breeders should be very interested in Puzzle — a rare opportunity at a bargain price to buy into  a filly line bred to La Troienne from the Numbered Account/Dance Number/Get Lucky branch of a very high quality family that has regularly produced Hall of Fame members, KY Derby winners, Eclipse champions, Breeder’s Cup winners, millionaires, graded stakes winners in every generation.  Puzzle is in-bred to the great broodmare Get Lucky. She is sired by Brethren, a Distorted Humor son who is a half-brother to Derby winner Super Saver, both out of Supercharger, a daughter of that great broodmare Get Lucky, who produced multiple grade 1 stakes winners and whose daughters have been multiple graded stakes producers. And on the dam side, Puzzle’s dam Atrea, by Storm Cat, is a granddaughter of Get Lucky, and Atrea sold for $450,000 as a broodmare. Puzzle’s dam is already a stakes producer, and has daughters with some very promising young runners on the track, and her second dam is a graded stakes producer.  The third dam is, as we said, the great Get Lucky, and the 4th dam is Grade 1 winner Dance Number, and the 5th dam is the Hall of Famer member Numbered Account by Buckpasser.  Mares from this female family often go for high 5 fr six figures at breeding stock auctions, so this puts into perspective what an amazing bargain Puzzle presents for breeders.

PAPA TOM B, 2016 16.2h grey gelding

Located at a farm in Victor NY near the Finger Lakes Race Track

What a gorgeous grey! The big and handsome Papa Tom B was described to us as an all around good boy, good to handle and ride with no vices. He’s earned over $75,000 in 26 starts but ran no better than third this year so it’s time to let him move on to a less strenuous career than racing.  He came out of his last race sore behind, just a few days before we took his video, but his trainer feels that he will be fine with some time off. He has clean legs. For a horse this gorgeous, solid boned, and good to be around, it will be well worth it to give him that bit of post-track down time. He will probably be best suited for a lower level job.  He is sired by Flashback, a son of Tapit, and his dam is by Pleasant Tap.

FUNNY HONEY, 2020 16h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).

Funny Honey is a complete sweetheart of a filly who, even though it was a chilly day when many other horses were a little ‘up’, displayed absolutely zero funny business whatsoever! We really liked this filly- nice solid balanced conformation, lovely mover, quiet, and she additionally has an excellent pedigree that might appeal to breeders. She was an adorable, relaxed, and a super polite girl during her photo session. It was reported to us that she is a doll to work with- she’s described as “perfect” in her stall, with no vices. The exercise riders also report that she is a good girl without any issues. She comes from excellent track connections whose horses are always beautifully conditioned and well-handled. Her only issue, joked her handler, is that, “she is a golden horse except that she is unfortunately a plain bay”. Yes, much to the dismay of our volunteers (who are huge fans of all of our FLF ‘plain bays’), many wonderful horses we’ve posted who are ‘plain bays’ do sometimes tend to get overlooked. But don’t let a coat color make you miss out on this very cute and sweet filly. And surprise! Although it is hard to see in the photos, Funny Honey actually has a fascinating and quite unique roaning throughout her coat- it is sprinkled with white hairs. We think her coat color is truly special and unique.

We were immediately drawn in by her long, gorgeous neck, her kind eye, and pretty face. She’s got a nice sturdy and solid build with a deep body (especially for a three-year-old filly) and stands squarely on clean, tight legs with nice short cannons and good bone. She was well mannered and posed quietly for us. Right before we started filming her jog video, a shopper walking around with us stopped her handler and easily picked up & picked out a hoof that contained some balled-up material; Funny Honey was completely relaxed, agreeable, patient, and stood quietly while this task was performed. She then jogged calmly and politely on a loose lead displaying a nice overstep at the walk and rhythmic, relaxed, flat-kneed movement during her jog. She had raced only three days prior to our visit but showed a calm demeanor and no lingering effects. With her relaxed attitude and cute movement, we could see her being an agreeable partner in a wide variety of different disciplines.

Funny Honey has only four starts on her racing resume. Although she’s broken her maiden, her owner does not feel that she shows quite enough racing potential and would rather not incur the expense of wintering her to return next season. But it is wonderful news for you as she is also fully eligible for the RRP Makeover. We think that she would be a sweet, agreeable, fun, and ammy-friendly restart and partner.

Funny Honey has an excellent pedigree that might also appeal to breeders. She is by Practical Joke, a hot young KY based sire and son of the great Into Mischief. Funny Honey’s dam is by Mineshaft, who is known as an excellent broodmare sire. Her second dam, Classic Elegance, is a multiple graded stakes winner and black type producer who has graded stakes producing daughters, and who has produced horses who have sold for high six figures as broodmares, and who have produced many yearlings who have sold for high six, and seven figures. The third dam, Taegu by Halo, is a multiple stakes producer and grandam of a Kentucky Oaks winner. This is a highly productive female family that shows consistent commercial success at the yearling and breeding sales, and on the track.

The racing season is winding down and at this point her connections were not entirely sure once the track closes whether Funny Honey would be staying at a local farm or moved to the Saratoga area, so please act quickly to make sure that you can easily see this lovely filly in person.

FREE SHOT, 2020 16h bay filly — retained for racing

Located at a farm in Victor NY near Finger Lakes Racetrack

This gorgeous, young lady had been a shopper favorite coming into the day after watching her last race and seeing her exceptional movement on the track. Free Shot went out to her last race and warmed up without a pony, and was able to display lovely, lofty movement with loads of natural suspension. Per her connections, Free Shot typically warms up without a pony, is very smart, and has no bad habits under saddle. She’s a forward thinker, but doesn’t ”do anything wrong”. While in her stall, Free Shot tends to offer a “mare stare”, but doesn’t do anything nasty. She is very sweet outside of her stall. Free Shot is reported to be injury free, but is just not making it as a racehorse.

Free Shot has a strong shoulder and is short coupled. Her neck connects beautifully to her shoulder. And to top off her lovely conformation, she has a dreamy forelock! For her jog video, she was still a bit up from racing earlier this week but still remained respectful of her handler. Our volunteers also did a recording of her on the track at her last race so that potential buyers can see more of her incredible movement.

Free shot is by Midshipman, who has Unbridled Song lines, both sought after for their movement and trainability. She is out of a Bluegrass Cat mare. Don’t miss this young, lovely girl who we can see going in any direction!

STABILIZE, 2016 16h gray/roan mare

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).

This is one drool-worthy, absolutely GORGEOUS gray girl! We were floored by how stunning Stabilize is to see in person as pictures (even the beautiful ones we took) do not do her justice. Her coat has unique dapples set with great contrast. It is one of the prettiest dapple-gray coats that any of us have ever seen- the dapple pattern appears as giant snowflakes on her coat. And even better, we were told her personality and manners are just as lovely as her coat color; she’s described as being easy to work with and ride, very friendly, good in her stall with no vices, easy to groom, and sound. A truly beautiful mare in both personality and looks!

And that’s what we observed- a sweet, quiet, and relaxed mare who stood patiently and posed professionally during her photoshoot. She has a refined appearance with a pretty, classic, feminine head and a long, elegantly arched neck. She’s well balanced with a wide chest and powerful, but finely muscled hindquarters. We did note some rounding on her RF ankle but were told that she’s raced on it and that it has not bothered her; when we felt her legs, we did not feel any heat there. During her video, we noted a relaxed, swinging walk, and detected cute movement at the trot with suspension and engagement. This pretty mare is approaching war-horse status with a very impressive record of 41-9-4-10 and over $156K in earnings. Her consistent record speaks volumes about her durability, heart, athleticism, and work ethic. She’s paid her dues at the track and now it is time for her to be a star in a new career. We could see her excelling in many different disciplines.

Stabilize is by Central Banker (Gone West/ Halo lines) out of a Silver Charm mare. Her lineage indicates that she would have a good brain and be a straight-forward, ammy-friendly restart which is exactly what we expect given her quiet and professional demeanor.

This (Thanksgiving week) is the last week of racing and horses will soon have to vacate the track barns. We were not told where Stabilize would be moved after FL closes for the season- and whether that will be in the local area or not. So if she’s on your Christmas list, it might be a good idea to immediately schedule a visit to do a little early holiday shopping.

TRITON’S CREED, 2019 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Sometimes the best really is saved for last! We were just asked to list this gorgeous flashy guy on the last week of the Finger Lakes 2023 racing season, since he ran what we hope will be his last race today (Nov. 20) and he is ready to go start what we think will be a great sport horse career.  He looks like he could step into the show ring tomorrow, and he moves like the under-saddle winner in the hunter division!  Triton was described to us as an in your pocket guy, a quiet and very well-behaved horse who is good to ride and pony on the track. We certainly saw the “in your pocket” aspect of his personality — he just wanted to snuggle with our volunteers. We were told that he is sound, has no vices, and has great feet — which can be hard to find in a  chestnut with four white socks. He is ready to move on to a new career because he has one win in 7 starts and isn’t showing enough on the track to make many more wins likely. We admired his well balanced and correct conformation, and overall beautiful looks.  We fell in love even more when he moved off on a loose lead, head down and relaxed, for his video.  He showed a good overstep at the walk, and a flowing trot with flat kneed reach from the shoulders and good engagement from behind.  While he looks to us like a stellar show hunter prospect, he can go do any new career you want to pursue.  He is by Jimmy Creed, who is by Distorted Humor out of a mare from the Dixieland Band line.  His dam, Nautical N, is by Super Saver, who is by Maria’s Mon.  Maria’s Mon has been rated as one of best sport horse sires.  Nautical N sold for $575,000 as a yearling, so you know she’s good looking and a great mover.

MOON HUNTER, 2019 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This very handsome guy is by Malibu Moon out of a mare from the Unbridled’s Song line — an ideal sport horse pedigree.  Moon Hunter stood quietly posing for his photos, while we admired his excellent balanced conformation, clean and correct legs, solid bone, kind eye, and the sun gleaming on his caramel-colored coat.  He seemed to enjoy being admired by the group of volunteers gathered around him — he knows he’s stunning!  He looks like he could walk into the show ring tomorrow. His trainer says he is very sound, an all-around good boy who does everything right, but with only 2 wins in 20 starts he’s just not enough of a racehorse to warrant bringing back to the races next year.  Moon Hunter walked and jogged quietly and politely on a loose lead (not something many horses did on a cold morning!) and displayed a relaxed swinging walk and nice even rhythmical movement at the trot. He had raced just a couple of days prior to his photo session, and he showed no ill effects from that exertion — a testament to his soundness.  His sire Malibu Moon is by AP Indy. His stakes winning dam, Red Hot Buddha, is by Buddha, a son of Unbridled’s Song. Moon Hunter has no limitations for any new career, and while we think he has that elegant show hunter look, he could do in any direction you want. He is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.

SPEED UP, 2021 15.2h bay filly

Located on a farm in Avon NY

“Speed Up” is definitely the right encourager to this lovely, well-built filly according to her race connections. She is described as a “snail” who “cannot get out of her own way”. While that may not have allowed her to excel in racing, it surely won’t hinder her in future careers! Speed Up is reported to be vice and injury free. She is also reported to be good to ride with no naughty behaviors. Speed Up is well proportioned her only being two and her coat is covered in dapples. She posed perfectly for her photo shoot and allowed our volunteers to scratch and snuggle her. Speed Up was a bit up for her jog video in the cool fall day, but remained respectful of her handler and showed off some of her natural loft and suspension. Speed Up is by Courageous Cat and is out of a City Zip mare- both are known for fantastic sport horse babies with excellent brains. We have placed several Courageous Cat offspring that have turned out to be great jumpers, bold, scopey, with great form over fences. With only 2 starts, this young prospect is nearly a blank slate!

KNIGHT OF THE CROWN, 2019 16.1H bay gelding

Located on a farm in Avon NY

If tall, bay, and gorgeous is on your must haves, Knight of the Crown is your guy! And to top off these remarkable good looks, this youngster has the personality to match. Knight is known to be a total sweetheart around the barn, with no vices or injuries reported. He’s a favorite just to have around and is reported to be just as nice to ride. This guy’s dappled coat shown in the sun as he stood perfectly for his photo shoot. Our volunteers adored his kind eye that matched his kind, quiet demeanor. Knight jogged politely for his handler, but would’ve much rather stopped to get more scratches from our volunteers. Knight of the Crown is by Ocean Knight, who is by the great Curlin. He’s out of a Big Drama mare, who has Montbrook and Notebook lines, both known for passing on trainable, unflappable brains. Don’t let this big, good looking youngster pass you by!

CANCELLEDCAPTIVITY,  2020 15.2-3h chestnut filly

“CC,” as she is known around the barn, is a sweet filly who has good “go” energy and is a peppermint lover.  We can attest to that — after we offered her a peppermint treat, she kept nuzzling us and looking in our pockets for more. We admired CC’s dapples, solid bodied build, nice topline, and the unusual white patch on the inside of her left hind leg.  She also displayed very cute light movement for her jog video. Her handler says she is sound and has good feet, but after she broke her maiden at the lowest level, she isn’t showing enough to be competitive in conditions for winners. She says CC is good to gallop, but can get strong, so she’s better suited for an experienced rider who wants to do a discipline that will suit CCs athleticism and forward energy.   We can see her excelling at barrels, polo, or as a hunter pace and eventing partner for a rider who doesn’t need a tall horse. CC has one win in 13 starts, and is fully RRP eligible. She is by Palace Malice, a son of Curlin, out of a Deputy Minister mare.  She comes from a great female family — her second dam is a full sister to Belmont winner Editor’s Note — so she certainly has good broodmare potential as well.

SCORPION DYNASTY, 2017 15.2+h bay gelding

Is he a Thoroughbred race horse or is he a Labrador puppy? He is a little bit of both if you ask us. If you love (and are looking for) the epitome of a quiet in “in your pocket” type, this is the boy for you. If ever a horse was misnamed — there is not the slightest bit of Scorpion bite in this sweet puppy dog! We are told that he is the perfect, friendly gentleman whether he is on the track or at home on the farm and in turnout. We thought he was completely adorable, cuddly, and friendly as he chilled out with all the volunteers, relishing the attention. While we were offering him some peppermints, we were told he is a chow hound who will eat anything- including donuts. And we learned that he has multiple talents, as he often enjoys playing ‘music’ jingling the chain that his trainer leaves hanging by his stall. He’s a fun horse with a personality plus. A clear volunteer favorite — indeed we had a hard time pulling ourselves away from him!  He seems like an unflappable bombproof type — at one point a big garbage truck came alongside him on the road to pick up the dumpster, making a huge clanging racket.  And Scorpion Dynasty never blinked and stood there like nothing was going on. He’s a beautiful bright bay, solidly put together with good bone. We all fell for his very pretty head and super kind eye.  His owner/trainer recently learned that he has small chip on the bottom of his medial sesamoid on the left front.  It has never caused any swelling or heat, and he has not been lame on it.  They had noticed that he did not want to fully stride out for a few days after a race, so they sent Scorpion to their farm for a couple months of R & R. They recently brought him back to the track, and x-rays were done which revealed the very small chip.  The trainer showed the x-rays to an equine orthopedic surgeon, who thought that if the chip were removed Scorpion could continue racing, and if the chip were not removed he could do many new disciplines without limitation since it is not in the joint and there is no calcification.  The x-rays will be made fully available to seriously interested people, for you to discuss with your vet based on your aspirations.  When we saw him at the track for his photos and jog, he was barefoot (his trainer says he has great feet!), and Scorpion Dynasty jogged on a loose-lead on the hard pavement, with no evidence of unsoundness and  displaying easy and relaxed, light and lofty tail-swinging movement that we could see doing well in either the hunter or dressage ring.  His connections are very fond of this horse and as he’s paid his dues earning $100K in his 30 starts, they want to see him placed into the very best of homes to start his second career.  To show you that he is still full of heart and athleticism, he has finished 1st or 2nd in 4 of his 5 races this year!  Scorpion Dynasty is by Dialed In, who is by Mineshaft, a son of AP Indy.  His dam, Queen of Chicago, is by Artie Schiller, who si from the El Praco/Sadler’s Wells sire line.  We know several people who have Artie Schiller offspring and they all rave about what great brains they have — they are reported to be smart, sensible, willing, good movers and jumpers. Scorpion Dynasty is a horse that anyone who sees him will fall head over hells in love with, and he is well worth doing the chip removal surgery to have a gorgeous great moving quiet and sweet horse who will then have no limitations. Turst our volunteers– we all think this one is special!

COMBATING, 2017 17+h bay gelding

For those who are looking for a huge, thick, solid boned TB who has the size and substance of a draft cross, Combatant is your guy. As his handler described him to us — while he just wanted to climb in our volunteer’s pocket — the word “good” kept being repeated:  He’s good in his stall, good to handle, good to ride.  Sweet and friendly, he adored getting the attention of our volunteers.  Because he was racing that afternoon, his handler could only do a short walk and jog for us. She said that Combating is very laid back and loves to sleep in his stall.  She also said he has some old ankle rounding that he has been running on for a while.  He is ready to find a new career less strenuous than racing, since he seems to have lost interest after being with a previous trainer at Penn National that ran him non-stop. Because he is so big and solid boned and has already raced 11 times this year, we think Combatant could benefit from some down time, enjoying turnout and pampering, to let him get over the rigors of racing.  But he sure has kept up his friendly and kind attitude throughout it all!  He has 1 win in 34 starts,  Combating has an outstanding sport horse pedigree. He is sired by Carpe Diem, who is by Giant’s Causeway out of an Unbridled’s Song mare. Combating’s dam is by the great War Front, a son of Danzig. Her broodmare sire is Thunder Gulch — this sire line is known for getting great jumpers.

MISTER LARRY, 2019 16.2h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Calling all fans of Frost Giant offspring for their upper-level eventing potential! Mister Larry has all that potential!  And he’s out of a Big Brown mare, to throw in another popular sport horse sire in his pedigree.  Larry is a big young exuberant boy, with a solid boned, balanced and uphill build, a strong shoulder and powerful looking hind end. He was described to us as “the soundest horse in the whole barn” and we observed clean legs. His handler says that Larry can be pushy, although he is not naughty or silly to ride, and that he needs an experienced person with upper-level talents and ambitions who can put Larry into a regular training program to focus his energies.  Larry is quite the handsome horse, and even on a gray day we could see the dapples under his winter coat. For his jog video he showed nice movement with good hind end engagement and a lofty step.. while missing a hind shoe. We thought that if he moves that well missing a hind shoe, wow will be move well when all four feet are in good shape.  While we were chatting with Larry’s handler,  Larry was standing on a long loose lead and she started turning her body and he just naturally started walking around her in a circle, lunging!  We got some of that on video.  We think this shows that Larry is a smart and very retrainable horse.  Larry last raced at the end of October, and now that his connections have decided to move him on from racing, he is feeling quite high on the track without regular training or turnout. But we think that once off the track, getting turnout and in a regular training program that can focus his energy, Larry will become an eventing star. He certainly has the pedigree for it. Frost Giant is a son of Giant’s Causeway, and everyone that we know who has had a Frost Giant has loved them for their brains, work ethics, great jumping and galloping ability — they have excelled in eventing and dressage. Larry has 3 wins in 22 starts, with two of those wins coming this year. He would now have to race in tougher eligibility conditions where his trainer does not think he will be competitive. In addition to being by Frost Giant out of a Big Brown mare, Larry’s second dam was a grade 1 stakes winner, by Real Quiet, who is by Quiet American, another great eventing sire. There is certainly a lot of sport horse quality in his pedigree.

NAUGHTY PUMPKIN, 2020 16h chestnut filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Not quite ready to give up pumpkin spice season just yet? Well now, with this lovely filly, you can legitimately enjoy pumpkin spice all year round! Meet Naughty Pumpkin, whose fabulous movement left us all saying WOW!  We were told that this spunky, pretty ginger girl has zero interest in racing, as demonstrated by her three lackluster races. She’s finished last every single time. Her owner told us, “she’s excellent to ride and will do anything that you ask of her…. Except go fast!”. So rather than trying to make her into a racehorse (which she clearly doesn’t want to be), it is time to find her a new job. She has unlimited potential for any new sport horse career. We were told that she is very sound and has no stable vices but can have her occasional spicy moments. Given her young age, athleticism, along with that perfect little sprinkle of spice, at this time she is better suited for a more experienced OTTB owner.  She stood quietly and posed politely for her photos making our job super easy. With nicely balanced proportions and solid build, she’s got good bone and tight, clean legs. We admired her lovely arched neck and pretty face with its distinct marking. We were told that she has great feet; she even trained barefoot and was not shod until her first race. And we did observe very nice feet with a good heel. A lovely shade of chestnut (the dreary day did not help to reflect this in her photos), she even has the perfect touch of chrome to help get you noticed. But as pretty as she is now, imagine how stunning this still growing girl will be a year from now as she matures and fills out. We were totally wowed by her gorgeous movement during her jog video- that should be WOW and GORGEOUS in capitals. She’d raced only three days before and she moved fluidly with no sign of any stiffness. We observed light, springy, balanced movement with nice reach from her shoulder. She appears to be an agile, athletic, good-feeling, gorgeous-moving filly who could easily excel in dressage, hunters or eventing. This lovely homebred has an excellent pedigree for sport as well. She is sired by Big Brown, who is from the Danzig sire line, and whose offspring are popular with eventers and known for their nice movement and good jumping ability.  Her dam, named One for Grandpa (we’re sure there’s a nice heart-warming story there), is by Mayakovsky who is from the Capote branch of the Seattle Slew line. She has Damascus, Roberto, and Round Table in her pedigree — all sires known for great jumping lines.

A DAB WILL DO, 2017 16h bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This mare is beautifully proportioned and conditioned – she looks like a show horse already, which is not surprising given that she is with some of best connections at Finger Lakes, known for taking great care of their horses and sending many on to great sport horse careers.  A Dab Will Do drew us in to her beautiful head, and her balanced uphill build, solid bone, correct conformation, and well developed topline. Her trainer reports that she is a sound mare, very good to handle and ride, quiet and sensible, but she has cribbed, so they keep a collar on her.  Her trainer told us that when they first observed cribbing activity it was at feeding time on the track, so they put the cribbing strap on her and never removed it, although they have never observed any cribbing tendencies at other times or while she has been on their farm over the winter. So it is possible that off the track, in a calmer environment, with turn out, A Dab Will Do will not crib and will not need to wear the collar.  A Dab Will Do is ready to move on from her racing career simply because she has not fared as well this year in the tougher racing conditions she is now eligible for, so her owner and trainer realize it is a good time to let her move on to a new career, where she has unlimited potential as a sport horse, and may also be of interest to sport horse breeders given her great pedigree. A Dab Will Do has 3 wins in 24 starts, with an additional 8 second or third place finishes, and $69,000 in earnings. For her jog video, she walked and jogged very quietly on a loose lead and showed a swinging big strided walk and a nice light trot.  We can see her going in any direction, but we also think she has great potential for eventing or other sport horse disciplines. Dab is sired by Paynter, a son of Awesome Again out of Tiznow’s full sister. Paynter is known for getting big hearted hard trying horse with excellent sport horse aptitude.  Paynter passed away very recently, so this is a great opportunity to get one of his offspring.  A Dab Will Do comes from one of the greatest female families in the US TB stud book tracing from her 4th dam Missy Baba– the direct female family of AP Indy, Raja Baba, Lemon Drop Kid, Havre De Grace, Tonalist, Court Vision and his full brother, the star show hunter and FLF poster horse King’s Vision.  Anyone interested in breeding for racing or for sport horses should be excited at the opportunity to acquire a beautiful mare from this female family! And this sort of quality in the female family means quality for whatever discipline you pursue — as the many offspring from this line succeeding in all sorts of sport horse disciplines attest to.

IRON HORIZON, 2019 15.3h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Iron Horizon is a quiet, sensible young gelding, a very cute mover, and he’s by a young son of Malibu Moon — there’s a lot to like here!  He has been in the money in half of his 12 starts, with one win, but his owners do not think he’s going to do well enough at the next levels of competition to make it worthwhile to keep him over the winter for more racing next year.  But that decision is great news for those of you looking for a sound nice moving young gelding with a great brain and a great sport horse pedigree — offered at a bargain price.  Iron Horizon’s handler says he is a very good boy who will do whatever you want — and that is certainly what we observed as he stood quietly for photos, quite agreeably letting his legs and neck be adjusted for good photo angles. He jogged very quietly, and showed light toe flicking movement with nice rhythm.  She says Iron Horizon is very sound and has never had any issues, and we observed clean tight legs and a good amount of heel on his feet.  He is still growing and could eventually top out at 16h or slightly more.  When he finishes growing and fills out in his post track life he’s going to be quite the looker.  He is fully RRP eligible, and you can go in any new direction with this young gelding.  He is by Gormley, who is by Malibu Moon out of a Bernstein mare with Kingmambo close up in her pedigree.  Iron Horizon’s dam is by the great Into Mischief, out of a Kris S(Roberto) mare.

BANKERS DAUGHTER, 2017 16.2+h dark bay mare — owner retained for breeding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Yep, this lovely big mare is indeed a daughter of Central Banker, a Speightstown son who is becoming increasingly popular as a sport horse sire because his offspring tend to be excellent jumpers.  Based on her conformation, pedigree, temperament, and soundness we think this big pretty solid boned mare is an excellent sport horse prospect.  She was quiet and polite for her photo session on a very chilly morning, and her handler confirmed that she is just a “very chill mare” who is always a good girl to handle and to ride. We were told that Bankers Daughter is sound and can go in any new direction you want.  She is ready to move on to a new career because she is a victim of her own success on the track — she has so many wins that there will be few racing conditions that she’s eligible to run in next year . She has earned over $250,000 in her 37 start racing career, with 5 wins, 8 seconds, and 4 thirds.  This year she has 3 wins in 14 starts. This record demonstrates that she is athletic and a hard trying competitor.  Earlier in her career she consistently raced will in allowance level races, but to achieve her most recent win this fall her trainer had to drop her down into a claiming race.  Bankers Daughter has an uphill build, good topline, strong sloping shoulder and an impressive powerful looking hind end. And we just loved her pretty feminine head and kind eye.  And how cute is that photo of her sticking her tongue out?!!  For her jog video Bankers Daughter showed good engagement from behind with an even well balanced trot.   Bankers Daughter has an ideal sport horse pedigree that leads us to think she has excellent eventing potential. As noted, her sire Central Banker is from the Speightstown/Gone West sire line, and his dam is from Go For Gin/His Majesty/Ribot, and Halo/Hail to Reason sire lines. Bankers Daughter’s dam Lazeka is by Belong to Me, a Danzig son, and she is out of a Dynaformer mare. These are all the bloodlines most sought after in eventing and jumping disciplines.

SASSIE, 2020 15.2+h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

We think this pretty and refined ‘fun-size’ filly is misnamed- she is WAY more sweet than sassy! During our photo session, she was as agreeable, patient, and friendly as she was cute. We first observed her standing quietly on the road, loving on her handler while we finished up taking photos of another horse. We were quite impressed with how quiet she was for a three-year-old. We were told that she is very good in her stall, has no vices, and that she is  “A quiet ride. A very quiet ride.”  As she is not showing enough (LOL- read as ‘any’) racing talent in her breezes, her current owner does not want to incur the expense of wintering her so has decided to move her along to a new career. Although she has never started, she does have published workouts for this year, making her fully eligible for the RRP Makeover! She would be a lovely, sweet, fun, ammy-friendly project that we could easily see excelling in a hunter or dressage ring.  She comes from excellent connections whose horses are always well-handled and cared for.  And that should translate to an easy restart for you! We were told that she is not a dominant mare, but falls somewhere in the lower rungs in the herd hierarchy.  So she should adapt easily to any turnout arrangements. She seems to be the classic ‘nice, good girl’ in every way. We suspect that she is the type of girl who will relish your attention and affection, and enjoy being fussed over and pampered with long grooming sessions. Although she struck us as quite refined, this still-growing filly is well-constructed with nicely balanced proportions: a long, sloping shoulder and a deep body. Her legs are straight, cold and tight. She displayed some lovely, steady, rhythmic movement with good reach from her shoulder, a pretty walk and cute, light, springy trot. While we were videoing her, during the middle of her jog, someone right behind the green bin flapped out a tarp as she jogged by which would have spooked many much more seasoned horses, but she was relatively unfazed, settled, and trotted right on being quite professional about it. Her handler (in the video, you may hear him chastise the careless offender) seemed more distracted and upset about it than this unflappable filly!  Sassie is by Frank Conversation, who is a son of Quality Road.  Quality Road offspring are known for their great brains and friendly personalities, good movement, and jumping ability — they are highly sought after for sport horse disciplines. Sassie’s dam, Miss Tallahassee, is by Silver Deputy, who is from the Deputy Minister sire line.  mare. Notable influences in her pedigree include Quality Road/ Gone West lines and Deputy Minister.

ROYAL JUBILEE, 2020 15.3+h grey filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This beautiful grey girl has a lot to offer besides her dappled beauty — she is very sweet, quiet and sensible, good to handle, sound and clean legged, and a lovely mover! And to add to that attractive package, she is very well bred, so she might be of interest to breeders in addition to people looking for a sport horse prospect. Royal Jubilee has won twice in 12 starts, but both of her wins were on a synthetic track at Gulfstream. Her trainer told us that she just doesn’t seem to like the dirt track, and since he doesn’t race at tracks with synthetic or turf, he would like to find her a new career. Royal Jubilee was perfectly behaved for her photo session, and she loved the peppermints that her trainer offered to her.  For her video, she walked and jogged quietly on a loose lead, and displayed a nice big walk with the overstep and swing that dressage riders look for, and the flowing light flatter kneed trot that show hunter riders look for.  We can see her excelling in either discipline — or in any other for that matter. Her toes are currently very long, and once she gets her feet properly trimmed, imagine how well she will move! Since she is only three, she will grow some more, and may top out at slightly over 16 hands.  She is from the first crop of Belmont winner Tapwrit, a son of the great Tapit out of a mare from Valid Appeal/In Reality and Roberto/Hail to Reason sire lines. Royal Jubilee’s dam Secret Return is by Put it Back, from the Honor and Glory/In Reality sire line. Her second dam is a graded stakes producer, and her third dam is the grade 1 stakes winner and producer Pretty Discreet, who produced Discreet Cat amongst other luminaries.  We mention her close relation to Discreet Cat because his offspring are great jumpers. Mares from Pretty Discreet’s direct female line have produced many top stakes winners.

MACHO REAL, 2018 16.1h chestnut gelding

Macho Real is the rea deal! This guy is the complete opposite of the “chestnut stereotype” as he is extremely easy to be around, and a total love bug in the barn! Despite shivering due to the cold, he happily stood for photos and scratches from our volunteers.  Macho’s connections state that he is vice and injury free.  It is reported that he is a “very good boy to ride”, he just has no enthusiasm for racing. The racing world’s loss is the show world’s gain! Macho is built beautifully, uphill with a strong shoulder.  He displayed a lofty, floaty trot that had our dressage-loving volunteer drooling, but we could see this horse getting noticed in any arena! Macho Real is by Macho Uno, who is by Holy Bull and with Blushing Groom lines, and his dam side boasts Unbridled- all sought after sport horse sires!  Don’t let this flashy, sweet boy pass you by!

MARCH MADNEZ PARTY, 2018 16h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

You don’t have to be an NCAA basketball fan to love March Madnez! Our volunteers fell in love with March, and the more we saw of hm the more we understood why his handler/contact person (the grandson of the trainer) adores this horse, has made him his beloved pet, and wishes he could keep him forever. He described March as a very personable horse, a “lover,” inquisitive and intelligent, with the best manners. March is also described as very sound with no issues, no vices, and a horse who turns out well with other horses and is just an all-around pleasure to have in your barn. We were drawn in by March’s big boned and solid bodied correct conformation, and his very friendly and laid-back attitude. He jogged very politely and quietly on a loose lead, and showed very nice balanced movement that had our show hunter volunteer and a show hunter shopper both liking him more and more. March won two races earlier this year, and since then he has had to race in “NW3” conditions, where he isn’t as competitive. So, despite their grandson’s desires, the owner/trainers think it is best to let March move on to a new career where his athleticism, soundness, and great brain will enable him to shine. But they will be very picky about the best of new homes for their beloved March!  He has an excellent pedigree for sport horse/jumping disciplines. His sire Desert Party is by Street Cry, and has sired several horses that we know of succeeding at upper levels in eventing and jumping — they are great jumpers! March’s dam is by Arch, from Kris S./Roberto sire lines, and out of a mare from Montbrook/Buckpasser lines.

SAMAY, 2015 16.1h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester(

Samay is the very definition of the durable great brained wise war horse who so very much deserves a great new post-racing home. He is described to us as an all-around good boy who is very intelligent, quiet and sensible, great to handle, and great to ride, and sound with no vices.  Samay has balanced conformation, a kind and intelligent eye, quiet demeanor, and nice movement. Samay has given his all to the many hands he has been through in his racing career, with 10 wins in 48 starts, and an additional 5 seconds and 9 thirds — a remarkable 50% in the money rate. Samay was a perfect gentleman for his photo session, standing like a model, and showing his kind and kissable personality. He is described as sound. While he does have minor ankle jewelry, it doesn’t bother him at all. He is so chill that when we started to video him and asked his handler to move on, Samay initially just stood there, enjoying posing.  He showed nice even and balanced movement, but he did seem a bit stiff in his shoulders as one would expect from a horse who has been raced 12 times this year and 17 times last year, but we were told that he loosens up nicely after a warmup.  To us, that means that Samay would love some down time turned out enjoying being a horse and would benefit from body work to get him started in his post track life. He is by Tizway, a son of Tiznow, and he is out of a mare who has all too rarely seen stout TB lines known for great sport horses: Farma Way/Foolsih Pleasure; Le Fableaux/Princequillo; Clever Trick/Icecapade; and In Reality.

MIAMI CHROME, 2018 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This gorgeous horse is a son of California Chrome — our first ever offering by that much loved horse!  California Chrome didn’t have many US sired foals, and they rarely come to Finger Lakes, so Miami Chrome presents a special opportunity indeed. Miami Chrome was described as a quiet horse who is very good to handle, and quiet and well behaved under tack and on the track both in the mornings and afternoons. We first saw him in the wash stall, standing perfectly, and then he came out still wet, and even though there was still a morning chill in the air, he stood like a perfect statue for his photos. He seemed proud to show off his exceptional good looks! He displayed very good movement for his jog video, with an even well-balanced trot and a light flowing step with good engagement from behind.  Miami Chrome has a very slight old and tight bow on his left front that happened before he ever started racing. It obviously hasn’t impaired his racing soundness in the slightest — he’s been a durable racehorse, running consistently every two to three weeks without missing a dance. He has 6 wins, 6 seconds, and 8 third place finishes in 39 starts with over $110,000 in earnings.  He’s very well bred — in addition to being by the great California Chrome, his dam, who’s by Cat Thief, is a graded stakes producer, and his second dam, who’s from the Seattle Slew line, is a graded stakes winner.  California Chrome has an ideal pedigree to be an excellent sport horse sire; he is from the Pulpit/AP Indy and Cozzene/Caro sire lines out of a Not for Love mare. We admired a California Chrome son at the RRP this year, who did very well in the show hunters and was an excellent scopey jumper. We can see the same sport horse success in Miami Chrome’s future.

FLAT BILL, 2015 17h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

When Flat Bill came out of the barn to wait his turn to be photographed, we looked over and said “wow, who’s that elegant tall dark and handsome horse?!” Flat Bill is a wise old soul, with a classy “been there done that” demeanor that one would expect for such a durable, big hearted, sound campaigner.  He has had 73 starts, with 9 wins, 17 seconds, and 9 thirds, and over $169,000 in earnings. And he is as sound and clean legged and happy with life as they come!  His owner/trainer says that he is an all around great horse, good to handle and work with in his stall, good to ride, no vices, never had any soundness issues with him. He posed like a model, never moving a muscle, and he jogged quietly and politely, showing off very good movement that had us thinking he could be a great dressage horse or eventer.  He had very good hind end engagement and looked sound and steady. Flat Bill is by Regal Ransom, a son of Distorted Humor out of a mare from Roberto and Deputy Minister lines.  There aren’t very many Regal Ransom offspring, because he died after siring only 4 crops, and Flat Bill is from the last of those crops.  Regal Ransom has been a sire sought after in the sport horse world, and this may be your last chance to acquire one of his offspring. To make his sport horse pedigree even more enticing, Flat Bill’s dam is by Maria’s Mon.

JACKSON BAY, 2019 16h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, Ny (near Rochester)

A volunteer favorite for the day! Cute, sweet, gentle, sound, lovely mover… our notes on the adorable Jackson Bay are just full of superlatives!  His trainer told us that Jackson acts like a track pony type of horse, which means unflappable, friendly, steady and quiet.  He also told us that Jackson is easy to handle, has no vices, is a sweet and very sound horse, and we saw very clean legs. We admired Jackson Bay’s balanced, solid boned, compact build, and his kind eye.  For his jog video he walked calmly on a loose lead, stood still as his trainer petted him, and showed off nice light movement with good reach from the shoulders at the trot. While Jackson Bay has finished second and third a few times, he has yet to win in 13 races, so his trainer knows it’s time to let him find a new career. He has no limitations for any discipline you want to pursue. Because of his quiet kind temperament, he could be a good prospect for a teen working with a trainer.  He is sired by Union Jackson, who’s a son of the great Curlin out of a Dixie Union mare.  We’ve seen several Union Jackson offspring lately, and they are all sweet, quiet, and lovely movers. Jackson Bay’s dam, Malibu Citi, is by Malibu Moon out of a mare by Citidancer, which brings in another strand of Dixieland Band.

LETTERCARRIERHENRY, 2016 15.3+h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, in Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

If you’re looking for a horse that is loaded with personality, then Lettercarrierhenry is the horse for you! “Hen Hen” as dubbed by his groom, is reported to be a “total ham”, which our volunteers also witnessed as he begged for kisses and made funny faces to garner attention. His connections report that he completely relaxes on the farm. They also say he is sound and has never had any injuries. He is even reported to be good to be clipped. Hen Hen is a solid bodied beefcake, and will certainly take up a ton of leg. Eventers take note- on his way out to his photo shoot, he had to cross through some “water” and didn’t hesitate. He stood and posed perfectly for his photo shoot, showing off his desirable uphill build and strong shoulder. While he was just a bit up for his jog after being off of work since his race 5 days before, he remained respectful of his handler and showed off a lovely toe pointy trot. Hen Hen is by the highly sought after Frost Giant known for throwing athletic babies with huge success in both the Eventing and Dressage arenas. If adorable, bay, chunky, hunky, and loaded with personality are all on your check list, then you won’t want to miss out on Lettercarrierhenry!

MISSION CAT, 2017 15.3h gray mare

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY)

Gorgeous gray alert! Mission Cat is a very pretty, lovely dapple-gray mare, and she is by Mission Impazible, a much sought after stallion for sport horse disciplines known for offspring with great brains, kind temperaments, and great jumping ability. We were dazzled by her beautiful expression, elegant neck and feminine head with an Arab look to it. She’s nicely balanced with an athletic, close-coupled solid build, correctly set underpinning, and powerful hindquarters. She gives the impression of being alert, confident, and agile. We were told that the lovely Mission Cat is very good in her stall without any vices and is also very good to pony. Her handlers tell us that deep-down, they think she has “an eventer’s heart”; she has a touch of spice and is always eager to go, so perhaps that may be her calling! During her jog video her footfall was so light that we had to do a double take to make sure she had shoes on. In addition to being so light on her feet, she displayed lovely movement with great reach from the shoulders and a pretty, toe-flicking trot.  She’s lightly raced with 16 starts and has a record of 2-5-1 with over $60k in earnings. Last year, she raced at the allowance level, but this year, in order to get another win, her trainer had to drop her to the bottom claiming level. They think that it will be hard for her to win at the next “NW3” race condition level, so they would like to move her on to a new career. She has no limitations for any new discipline. Mission Cat is by Mission Impazible, who is from Unbridled’s Song and Hold Your Peace/Speak John lines.  Everyone who has had the good fortune to have a Mission Impazible offspring for sport disciplines races about them and says they are very ammy friendly and they would gladly have more! Mission Cat’s dam is by Forest Wildcat and out of a mare from teh Well Decorated/Raja Baba sire line.

LABAN N MO, 2019 16.3h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).

When we first heard his name, we assumed he was by Laoban, a son of Uncle Mo, and thus we expected to see the typical Uncle Mo progeny walk out:  tall, dark, and handsome with good bone and an excellent brain. And we were right on all of these counts!  Laban M Mo’s groom said he has a great personality and is super to work around without any vices. That’s exactly what we observed. He was a friendly, curious, and personable peppermint hound during his photo shoot. He’s a big, young, physically impressive horse with width and depth, standing squarely on straight, correct legs with good bone. He has nice feet with a decent heel. And all of this is packaged in a rich, almost black, velvety coat. While he needs to fill out from his racing physique and develop a topline, just imagine how stunning he can be once this happens!  He was relaxed and respectful  durin his video- he displayed a relaxed, swinging walk with nice overstep and an easy, fluid trot with spring and good push from behind. With his lovely movement, we could see him doing equally well in hunters, dressage, or eventing. He’s got a huge stride too- even though he is jogging at an easy, relaxed pace, his handler is getting quite the work out! He is clearly a barn favorite, and we overheard many comments to that effect as we were taking our photos. He has a solid racing record, with 3 wins, and 7 additional top three finishes in 23 starts. Last year he was winning at the allowance leverl but his year, he has yet to win even when dropped into the lowest claiming levels. Thus, his trainer realizes that he woudl prefer a new career, and she wants to move him on while he is still s sound and happy Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome. He has unlimited potential for any discipline, but with his lanky frame and size and laid back personality combined with athleticism,  we can see him excelling as a fox hunter, or an eventer.  Laban M Mo is by Laoban, who is a son of Uncle Mo out of a Speightstown mare.  Horses from the Uncle Mo line are usually great jumpers — indeed, an Uncle Mo offspring won the show hunter division in this year’s RRP.  Laban M Mo’s dam is by Forefathers, who si by Gone West, and her dam comes from the In Reality sire line.

NO LIME, 2017 16.1+ grey gelding – retained for racing

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Meet the droolworthy No Lime — big, grey, gorgeous, fabulous mover, sweet and quiet temperament!  Photos just do not do this one justice — you have to see him in person to appreciate how gorgeous he is. Our volunteers who saw him all wanted to covet him for themselves, but since our barns and budgets are full, you get the chance to grab this beautiful horse to pursue your sport horse dreams.  No Lime’s owner brought him over to where we were photographing another horse for a different trainer, and No Lime stood around so quietly just waiting for his turn that we all turned around and said “who is that!”  When we heard his name, we immediately started making Margarita jokes…. and then we learned that he got his name because his original owner also owned a tequila distillery!  The contact person for No Lime, who has often ponied him in the mornings and afternoons, tells us that she has adored this horse for the two years she has been working with him. She raved about how good he is to gallop, and to pony, and to handle and work around.  She says he is a very sensible, kind, quiet,  and friendly horse who never does anything wrong.  She says he is sound but noted that he has a slight filling in his left front lower suspensory area that is only apparent when flexed and that he has had for a while and has raced on with no issues.  He has no limitations for any new discipline at any level you want to go to. As much as we admired No Lime’s beauty while he posed for his photos, our admiration increased when we saw him jog. He jogged quietly on a loose lead and displayed very good movement, with a nice overtrack at the walk and hind end loft, front shoulder reach, and a natural tendency to stretch his neck and head down at the trot. No Lime has 4 wins in 35 starts, but in his 7 races this year he has only managed one third, so his owner, who is also a groom at the track, realizes that it is time to let him find a new career. No Lime is by Flashback, who is a son of Tapit out of a mare from Mr. Greeley/Gone West Lines. No Lime’s dam is by During, who is from Runaway Groom/Blushing Groom lines.

FAR AWAY LOOK, 2018 16.1h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Far Away Look is stunningly gorgeous and a very well bred son of Liam’s Map out of a Tiznow mare. His third dam is the dual US and Canadian champion and Hall of Fame member Dance Smartly — who also produced Dance With Ravens, one of the most sought-after sires for sport horses.  In his last race in mid-August, Far Away Look incurred an ankle injury, and while he cannot race anymore, the vet prognosis for a useful riding career is excellent.  He has been on stall rest, and has progressed to walking, so a good chunk of his rehab is already out of the way. The trainer will make x-rays available to seriously interested people. We were told that Far Away Look has been a model citizen during his rehab, is good to handle without vices, and he was friendly and inquisitive with us.  He posed perfectly and was very well behaved for his walk video on a blustery day.  He has a very solid build with beautiful balanced conformation and a well developed topline, and a very kind eye.  This stunning guy is well worth your patience in completing the rehab and starting him back with groundwork and then riding in the spring.

HEAD CASE, 2020 16h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This gorgeous young daughter of Central Banker  showed great racing promise in her one start, finishing a good second in a maiden special weight to an undefeated star.  But, unfortunately, she came out of that race with a sesamoid injury. We were told that the vet prognosis was that with proper time and rehab, she could be fine for a riding career, and of course, with her solid bodied good looks and nice pedigree, she also would make a great broodmare for racing or for sport horse breeding. Head Case is a barn favorite, due to her great attitude, the athletic talent she has displayed, and her beauty and disposition. She is now well along in her rehab, the stall rest period is over, and she is being handwalked.  We took a walk video so you can see her progress.  She will be ready soon for confined turnout, and if you continue proper rehab, she should be ready to start groundwork and riding in early spring. We were told that Head Case has handled her period of stall rest very well, remaining alert and happy and good to handle,  and we observed a friendly filly who enjoyed attention. She was amazingly quiet and sensible for her walk video for a young horse who had been on stall rest. She is by Central Banker, who is by the great Speightstown. Central Banker is siring several horses who have proven to be great jumpers, and are doing well in hunters, jumpers, and eventing. Her dam, Courageous Angel, is by Courageous Cat, whose offspring are great jumpers. Her second dam is a multiple stakes producer by Devil’s Bag, who is from the Halo/Hail to Reason sire line.  Please give this gorgeous young filly a chance to enjoy a great new post-track life!

BRIT’S UNION, 2020 16.1+h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Bruit’s Union is a lightly raced, still growing youngster who hasn’t shown much racing ability in 6 starts.  But racing’s loss is the sport horse world’s gain, because Brit is full of potential for any sport horse discipline.  Brit’s trainer, who also gallops him, told us he’s “amazing to ride.” Right after he first acquired Brit, he popped on him and they calmly walked over to the training track. The trainer says that although he’s perfectly behaved  rit he can be a horse with higher energy and a playful personality. He is also sweet and snuggly boy- and we observed him loving on his trainer (see photo).    Brit is a handsome horse,  well balanced, with a slightly longer body type, gorgeous neck, and powerful hindquarters. During his jog,  we observed forward movement with nice reach from the shoulders and good engagement from behind that looked uphill, athletic, and well balanced.  Because Brit is young and energetic, he would be better sited for an experienced rider with ambitions to go up the levels in sport horse disciplines. He is by Union Jackson, a son of Curlin out of a Dixie Union mare.  Union Jackson was recently retired from stud and is now embarking on his own new career as a sport horse. Brit’s dam, Brit’s Union, is by Van Nistlerooy out of a Clever Trick mare.  This brings in the Icecapade sire line, one that’s not seen often enough anymore, and was a favorite of steeplechasers and eventers. Brit is the type of horse that so many sasy they are looking for- a young, lightly raced, solid, slightly flashy, nice-sized, gelding that is athletic, good to ride, and snuggly in his stall. We  should be deservedly popular with many shoppers.

YES YOUR HONOR, 2017 15.1h bay mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

This mare is a beloved homebred, affectionately called “my little cupcake” by her trainer. He describes her as being “super sound, excellent to ride, and easy to work with in the stall” and a mare who loves attention. We saw a sweet, friendly mare who affectionately nuzzled her handler. If you want a horse who enjoys being groomed and fussed over, Yes Your Honor is for you.  She has a compact, solid, thick, uphill build combined with a classically pretty feminine head and neck. During her jog, she displayed animated movement with spring and suspension.  She has had a respectable racetrack career with 23 starts, earning just over $35K. But her trainer knows that it is time for her to move on to do something else.  She is by Brilliant Speed, who’s a son of Dynaformer — a sire known for siring durable horses who love to jump. Brilliant Speed’s dam comes from Gone West and Deputy Minister lines, also great sport horse sires.  Her dam Honor N’Charm is by Honor Grades, who is a half-brother to AP Indy by Danzig.

MOUNTAIN TREE, 2017 16.2+h dark bay gelding

Trust our volunteers who see all the horses — this big guy is one of the nicest sport horse prospects we have listed this year (or any year for that matter)!  You can’t beat his pedigree if you are looking for a big sound gelding for eventing or dressage:  He is by Verrazano out of a Malibu Moon mare.  His trainer says he is “sound as a bell,” and we observed clean tight legs.  He gleams with dapples, although on the cloudy day on which we photographed him, they don’t stand out. He has an uphill build with a strong shoulder and good hip angles, and he has such a kind eye. His trainer reports that Mountain Tree is an even-keeled very sensible horse, and an in your pocket people lover who loves mints.  He says that Mountain Tree loves to be outside and riding out and about — he rides him all around the stable area and on their farm.  Sounds like Mountain Tree would love going cross country or on a hunter pace!  He has earned over $100,000 in his 50 start career, but he has yet to finish in the top three in 6 starts this year, so his trainer thinks it is best to let him move on to a new career.  For his video, he showed a good push and engagement from behind, and a flowing big step. Mountain Tree’s sire Verrazano — who is by More Than Ready out of a Giant’s Causeway mare — has quickly become a very popular sport horse sire, known for the great brains, easy trainability, and jumping ability of his offspring. Mountain Tree’s dam, Charade, is by Malibu Moon — another coveted sport horse sire — out of a mare from Deputy Minister and Hoist the Flag lines.  For those of you who don’t have the huge budget that big young geldings with great sport horse potential usually require, Mountain Tree is offered at an enticing bargain price. He is the perfect age to transition to a new career — physically and mentally mature and ready for a new job.

PRINCESS RILEY, 2019 16+h dark bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

When we first saw Princess Riley, the phrase “built like a brick house” immediately came to mind.  She’s solid bodied, beautiful, and a wow mover! She’s also sound and clean legged.  We see exciting sport horse potential for this lovely velvety dark filly.  Princess Riley is a homebred whose trainer tells us that she is “Slow. She breaks slow and that affects her whole race”. In 10 starts, she has yet to win, although she has managed to finish second three times. While racing isn’t her calling, with her balance and movement, this sturdy, booty-licious filly could easily excel in a variety of other sports. She has the pretty looks and floaty movement to succeed in the hunter ring or in dressage, and eventing might be right up her alley too.  She was very well behaved for her jog video on a cold blustery day that had many other horses on the high side.  She displayed a light floaty trot with big reach from her shoulders and strong engagement from behind.  Princess Riley is sired by Union Jackson, a son of Curlin, who was recently pensioned from stud duty and rehomed through New Vocations for a sport horse career. Hmmm, perhaps daughter and father will meet in the show ring someday! Princess Riley is out of a mare by the great Ghostzapper. Other notable sires in her pedigree include Deputy Minister, Dixie Union, Dixieland Band, Relaunch, and Secretariat.

TWO COLOR MAP, 2019 15h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes racetrack in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).

Good things do come in small packages! And sometimes, they’re attached to a beautiful Fabio forelock and have plenty of flashy chrome to boot. The super cute Two Color Map was described to us as being “very cool” and “very nice to deal with”. His trainer says he’s good to ride but can be playful. His playful side also comes out in his stall — displaying a sense of humor- he enjoys soaking his tail in his water bucket and swishing it at unsuspecting humans. We admired his well filled-out topline. He has a compact and powerfully built body with good width to his chest, strong underpinning, and nice feet. And that face! He really is adorable. And quite flashy. And we think that he knows it too and might be a bit of a ham. Although he was a little “happy” on a rather chilly and windy day for his jog video (he even managed to sneak in a collected canter step or two), he was easily contained by his handler.  He showed off very good light and balanced movement. He seems like a good-feeling horse who is agile and clever on his feet, and that might excel in a variety of disciplines- either english or western. In 19 starts, he has “run some good races” but as the race season is winding down, he is at a point where he isn’t as competitive so his connections would like him to let him find success in a second career. Two Color Map is a very well-bred horse. He is by Liam’s Map, a son of Unbridled’s Song, who has quickly become a favorite sire of several leading OTTB resellers who aim at the sport horse market, known for offspring with good brains, good movement, and good jumping ability. Two Color Map’s dam,  Zamquick, is a stakes placed daughter of Pomeoy, who is from Danzig and Seeking the Gold sire lines. She also has Gone West on her damsire line.

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (Near Rochester)

If you’re looking for an adorable, lightly raced young horse with loads of personality and unlimited potential for sport horse disciplines, Volcker is your guy.  His trainer says he’s a cute and friendly horse who is very good to handle, and we saw this for ourselves as he stood perfectly without being tied while being groomed for his photoshoot and offered his nose to volunteers for smooches. His race connections say that Volcker is sound, never had any injuries, has no vices, but he’s just too slow to be a racehorse, and that he much prefers napping to racing! He has a compact uphill build and solid bone, and the most adorable face.   Volcker Rules was perfectly behaved during his jog despite some excitement next to him by horses on the walker. He displayed a natural over track at the walk and a cute flat kneed jog that would show well in the hunter ring.  Volcker is by Central Banker, a son of Speightstown, who is quickly becoming a favorite sport horse sire, known for offspring who are good jumpers, have ammy-friendly brians, and  versatile off-track abilities in multiple disciplines.   Volcker’s dam is by Data Link, from the War Front/Danzig line, and her dam is from the Johannesburg/Hennessey sire line.  Volcker Rules is offered at a bargain price for a young, sound, cute, good moving gelding with a lot more growing to do.

Located at Finger Lakes Racetrack, Farmington, NY (Near Rochester)

If you’re looking for a gorgeous big young filly with upper-level sport horse potential, then you’re in business with All Bizz.  Showing her athleticism and heart, All Bizz has won her last three races in a row, but that means she is running out of race conditions that she will be eligible to run in. Her connections feel it is time to let her move on to another job, and we see unlimited potential for sport horse disciplines, based on her pedigree and movement.  All Bizz’s trainer reports that she’s a bit “up” at the track, but that she is very quiet on the farm. they report that she is sound with no vices and no prior injuries.  The trainer says that while Bizz can have a bit of a “mare ‘tude”, she actually does not have a mean bone in her body. In our experience, that bit of attitude is what makes for a bold and confident sport horse!  All Bizz has an uphill, compact build that should help her succeed in many disciplines.  She displayed a lofty, floaty trot in her jog video, and despite the dropping temperatures and breezy day, she remained very respectful of her handler.  All Bizz is by Fed Biz, who is by Giants Causeway, a sire known for throwing athletic babies with incredible movement. THAT WORKS, 2021 15h bay gelding

That Works has incredible build and conformation for a 2-year-old that absolutely works! On a day when many horses that we saw were rattled by the wind and everything blowing in it, this guy stood statue still for his photo shoot. He is reported to always be that quiet, with no bad habits, no vices, and no prior injuries, just very, very slow. He is reported to be very easy to work around and good to ride as he “never does anything wrong”. For his jog video, That Works demonstrated a natural over track at the walk and a light, flat kneed trot. He was so well behaved, our volunteers asked multiple times to be sure he was actually only 2! That Works is by The Factor who is known for throwing babies with excellent brains and jumping ability. On the dam side, That works boasts Street Sense and AP Indy, both also known for having sensible, trainable offspring. If a sensible, blank slate is what you are after, That Works will work for you!

STORMANDY, 2020 16h grey gelding

If you’re looking for a super level-headed, relaxed youngster then Stormandy is your guy! He was so relaxed, in fact, on the windy day that made all the other horses a bit excited, that the volunteers couldn’t get him to stop resting a leg during his photo shoot.  According to his connections, Stormandy is always this relaxed and does not require a pony to the races.  He is reported to have no known vices or injuries.  Her enjoyed the attention from the adoring volunteers while they offered him pets and snuggles.  He showed a natural over track at the walk and jogged lazily beside his handler despite the banging shed door.  He didn’t show off his movement well, but our volunteers watched his race 11/6 and he displayed a light, lofty jog- even after a close win!  Stormandy is by Mastery, who is by Candy Ride, both sought after stallions for their athleticism and excellent brains.  He is out of a Tale of the Cat mare. At only 3, this guy’s potential is unlimited, and his striking good looks are sure to get you noticed in any arena!

MAGIC PRO, 2019 16h bay gelding

We watched this cute young son of Brethren (Super Saver’s brother!) get groomed in his stall to prepare for his photo session, and we can attest that he was a very good boy. His groom told us he’s a nice horse, good to work with, quiet and well behaved. He has a nice uphill and compact bodied build with good bone that suggests he could make an excellent jumper and sport horse. We also admired his kind eye and alert intelligent expression. His owner tells us that Magic Pro is very sound, and we observed nice clean legs, but that he just isn’t competitive in the class of races he now has to run in after breaking his maiden. Magic Pro has 1 win and 4 additional top three finishes in 29 starts, and he is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP. As we started to video him, Magic Pro waited patiently for a horse going to the track to walk by, but when his groom turned him around to jog, he probably thought he too was going to the track, because he got a bit on the muscle as he trotted after the horse heading to the track. But he remained politely respectful of his handler, and showed good push for behind and athletic looking movement. We think this young gelding has great sport horse potential. He is by Brethren, who is by Distorted Humor and out of the dam of Super Saver — Super Saver is a sire loved by people in sporting disciplines, so Magic Pro’s close connection to him bodes well for a sport horse career. Magic Pro’s dam is by Awesome of Course, from the Awesome Again/Deputy Minister sire line, and she’s out of an AP Indy mare. Further evidence of the quality in Magic Pro’s pedigree is that his third dam was a European champion. Magic Pro is offered at a great bargain price for a young athletic well bred gelding with unlimited potential for any discipline.

REMEMBER NORMANDY, 2019 15.3h bay gelding

If sweet and easy going are at the top of your checklist, then you will definitely want to check out “Norman”! This young guy is reported to be as levelheaded as he is good looking, even his trainer’s daughter who ponies horses at the track in the afternoon said she would ride him. He is reported to have no vices and to have no injuries. Norman’s current connection have had him his entire race career and have had him at their farm in the off season. They state that he is super easy on the farm with no bad habits.  Norman posed perfectly for his photo shoot and loved having our volunteers give him pats and scratches.  Norman displayed a natural over track at the walk on a loose lead.  He showed natural loft and suspension at the jog.  Remember Normandy is by Normandy Invasion, who is by Tapit, and both are known for throwing trainable, ammy friendly brains.  He is out of a Century City mare who has Danzig lines. This smart, sensible young gelding checks so many boxes, you won’t want to miss him!

AVID SUCINORI, 2018 15.3+h dark bay mare — retained to race

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

And what does this name mean, you might ask?  It is her sire and dam’s names backwards!  This lovely dappled beauty is by Ironicus, out of Diva Delight.  She is reported to be a very quiet and sweet mare, who is great to handle and good for everything — grooming, walking, riding on the track, in the wash rack, farrier, vet — you name it and she’s a kind sweetheart about it.  In her most recent race, she got jostled around at the start, and came out of it a bit body sore.  With some time off — which almost any horse coming right off the track can benefit from — she should be fine for any discipline you want to do with her.  She has been a good consistent race horse, with 3 wins and 12 additional placings and earnings of over $100,000 in 24 starts. Showing her heart and consistency, she has one win and two thirds this year in only 6 starts — and she is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.  She was missing a couple of shoes when her jog video was taken, so not surprisingly she took some uneven steps — but she also displayed her lovely demeanor, good engagement from behind, and a smooth even trot. Avid Sucinori has good broodmare potential, since there is lots of  black type and successful durable runners in her female family.  Her first four dams are all stakes producers, including some graded stakes winners, and her dam, Diva Delight, has a stakes winning two year old in only two starts and a very bright future.  Her pedigree for sport is also excellent. Her sire Ironicus is by Distorted Humor (a noted broodmare sire) out of an AP Indy mare. Her dam is by Tiz Wonderful, a son of Tiznow, and she’s out of a mare from the Mr. Greely/Gone West sire line. This is some good pedigree power offered at a bargain price!

T’s DOUBLE TROUBLE, 2019 16.1h dark bay filly with chrome

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

This flashy filly is known as Bunny around her barn. Buny’s trainer — who also started her under saddle as a baby and gallops her in the morning — told us that Bunny is good to ride, uncomplicated, does nothing wrong, but is also forward and on the muscle, so an experienced rider is recommended. Bunny likes attention, can be grouchy in her stall, but is the sort of filly that will bond with her person.  Outside her stall, she doesn’t display any grouchiness. Her trainer says she’s sound and has not had any issues, but with one win in 13 starts, she isn’t showing enough likelihood of racing success at the next level of competition to be worth retaining for racing.  Bunny has unlimited potential for any new discipline, and she’s fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.  For her jog video Bunny showed a nice swinging walk with good overstep and a lovely light trot.  She is by Al Khali, a son of Medaglia D’Oro from the El Prado/Sadler’s Wells sire line.  Her dam is by Silk Broker from the Fappiano line.

IOVA, 2018 16.1h chestnut mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Looking for a horse with great potential for eventing or jumpers? Iova is your girl!  Her connections describe her as a very sweet horse who loves attention and peppermints, but also loves to go, loves to have a job, is athletic, and would in their view make an awesome cross country horse or jumper. Iova is described as sound, and good to handle. We watched her get groomed without being tied, while she also ate her lunch — most on track horses would not have been so calm and agreeable about this!  We were also told that Iova has been around kids, dogs, goats and enjoys the activity and takes it all in stride.  She has 2 wins in 36 starts, with 18 additional top three finishes and nearly $100,000 in earnings. Although she has 4 placings in 7 starts this year her connections feel that more wins in tougher competition will be hard for her, so they would like to find her a new career where her forward enthusiasm will help her succeed. Iova was very well behaved for her jog video, and showed off a nice overstep at the walk and beautiful movement at the trot with a light loft and reach to her step. Iova has an excellent pedigree for sport horse disciplines. Her sire Lea is from Giant’s Causeway and Galileo lines. Her dam Stroll By is by Stroll, a son of Pulpit (AP Indy), and she is from one of the best female families in the TB stud book, replete with stars on the track and in breeding. Iova’s 4th dam is a full sister to the great Round Table — a name that sport horse disciplines love to see in pedigrees.
