Tizmas, 2009 17.3h bay gelding

His trainer calls him the gentle giant — and he is indeed both giant and gentle!  He is also stunning, with a beautiful refined head and a well developed topline and huge shoulder. She has sticked him at 17.3h, and he has such a balanced well proportioned build that we did not realize how truly huge he is until we stood right next to him. Tizmas is also a beautiful mover, with a light and flowing trot. Tizmas is obviously a barn favorite, easy to work around and with a great personality, and the trainer and her daughter told us about all his favorite treats, with mangoes heading the list!  He adores other fruits too — strawberries, kiwi — and of course he is a peppermint connoisseur! His trainer says she has had him for two years and he has been perfectly sound.  He had a mild suspensory injury at some point before he came to her, but it was properly rehabbed and fully healed, and it has not caused any issues throughout regular subsequent racing. He has no limitations for any new discipline.  He has been a classy and successful racehorse, with 11 wins, ten seconds, and 7 thirds in 62 starts, a stakes win and almost $300,000 in earnings to his credit. He has raced all over the east coast, winning at Saratoga, Belmont, Aqueduct, Parx, Monmouth, and Finger Lakes.  He has hit the board in half of his 6 starts this year, but he has shown less competitive interest in his last couple of races, so it is time to let him move on. We saw him only 6 days after a race and he showed no stiffness at all.  This durable beauty is another great candidate to take to the 2019 RRP to try to win the award given to the top placing war horse!  He is a son of the great Tiznow, who produces athletic horses that often get better with age, and many of his offspring have successfully transitioned to eventing and other jumping careers. His dam, Christmas Jones, is a daughter of Forestry.  Tizmas is a very special horse, and we think he is going to succeed as much in his new career as he has on the track.
