Update 10/13/2012:  This beautiful horse had pneumonia, which was the cause of his respiratory problems, and was not caught in time to save his life.  He was humanely euthanized.

What a handsome, elegant guy, with a beautiful dappled coat, nice topline, great shoulder and hind end.  His trainer says he is a good guy, nice to handle, and nice to ride. He is lightly raced, with clean legs.  While he has won a third of his starts, he is not running well this year, and his trainer feels it is time to find him a new career.  He said he can be sensitive to dust and throat irritants, but he feeds him alfalfa cubes rather than regular hay, and that helps his respiration.  A son of Devil His Due, who has produced some lovely show and event horses, he has a good pedigree for jumping, with Alydar close up as well.

WOW — if you are looking for a top event or show horse prospect, run and get this fantastic young horse.  We admired his gorgeous good looks, strong back and lovely top line and his clean legs.  Although big, he has a balanced build.  His trainer said he has a huge stride, and when we watched him jog we oohed and aahed over his floaty flat-kneed, toe pointing trot. Movement like this will win in the hunter under saddle or in the dressage phase. Pretty indeed! This gorgeous guy just oozes class and elegance – not surprising given his royal pedigree.  He is a son of champion and top sire Tiznow, and his dam has produced several stakes winners, including daughters who have also produced Grade 1 stakes winners. With his looks and pedigree, he was sold for $170,000 as a yearling. He has been a good hard knocking race horse with many wins, but he has recently developed some heat in his knee (which is wrapped for precaution), and his trainer does not want to keep running him and get him hurt. When we saw him for his photos, he was just a few days past a blazingly fast workout, and was slightly off on the knee.  But one could still see breathtaking movement – floating with great reach. Do a PPE, get a vet’s opinion, because if his knee will be good for endeavors less strenuous than racing after some rest, you are going to have one eye-catching, fantastic horse. Big, gorgeous, grey lovers, take note of the eye-catching Eddie!  With his movement and uphill build we see elegant dressage in his future. His trainer describes him as very sweet, good to handle, and a total treat hound – as you can see in his photos as they fed him mints.  He is also a guy with lots of energy who will benefit from an experienced rider.  He was a bit frisky for his video, since there was commotion from horses loading nearby, but he displayed breathtaking suspension, elevation, and rhythm to his movement, suggesting to us that he will make a stunning dressage horse.  We could almost visualize the piaffe in there.  Eddie was a very good race horse in New York, but after his last race a year and a half ago he hurt his ankle and had surgery. Earlier this summer they sent him to his current trainer at Finger Lakes, who says he is sound now but is concerned that with his size he will not hold up for racing without injections and medication. He does not want to do that to him, because he sees so much potential for a less strenuous career.  Eddie also has an excellent sport pedigree; his sire, Judge TC, is a grandson of In Reality and Secretariat,  and his dam is by Two Punch.

Sadly, Illicit Lover was lost to colic.

You can fall in love with this guy quite legitimately!  He  has an adorable puppy dog personality, and he is so quiet that his groom dropped the lead shank, tied it around his neck and he just followed her around. His trainer says he loves attention and treats, and is very laid back.  But he is also very athletic, and a nice mover.  Sport horse, trail and pleasure horse, or big pet– he has potential for all.  She wants to retire him from racing because he is a slight bleeder. Once horses are out of the confined and stressful track environment and get turned out, this issue usually completely resolves and causes no impediments. She says he is sound, but he has an old spot on his ankle from previously grabbing it in a race, and that tight bandages can aggravate the scab, but he is fine in polo wraps.  This cute faced sweetheart of a horse will quickly become your best friend.

Update June 2014:  Bad Neighbor has started his new career as a track pony with an exercise rider at the track. He is a natural, and we have seen him calming young horses and showing others the ropes.

Update late summer 2013: Bad Neighbor has retired from racing due to a bowed tendon and is rehabbing on his owners’  farm near the track. Despite the bow he should be fine for most disciplines.

The only thing this boy is bad at is racing. His trainer says this guy is a morning glory who works out great in the am and then just fizzles in his races. AKA Tommy, he has a lovely topline, nice shoulder and the cutest little dot on his nose. He is a nice mover, tracked over at the walk and was very relaxed for his videos. His father, Kelly Kip was a million dollar winner! So with his great disposition and athletic ability he should transition easily into a new career.

WOW! This horse will absolutely take your breath away! Big, impressive and oozing talent in every direction. We couldn’t decide his best discipline but dressage horse, conformation or working hunter were right there at the top of the list. We were told he’s been ridden by a young woman from the track at a local indoor arena and was a very good boy. In fact the trainer said she carries a crop just to keep him forward.
