An impressive solid bodied girl who is by Derby winner Fusacihi Pegasus. Unfortunately the bugs were brutal that day so it was difficult  to get good conformation shots as she shifted and stamped around. She was very well behaved for her jog video, and showed very nice movement. Her good conformation and willing attitude make her a great candidate as a sport horse. Update:August 11, 2013: After much networking by FLF TBs, we are very happy to report that the wonderful people at Second Chance Thoroughbreds have picked up Smoothie and he is now in their great care. He will be gelded, given the care he needs to gain weight, and then will be retrained and put up for adoption to an approved home.

This very pretty and well put together young lady just isn’t cut out to be a racehorse. This friendly guy is attractive with solid bone and is well built. His groom said he is easy going, easy to handle and can easily polish off a bag of mints. His well rounded pedigree includes Storm Cat and Raise a Native back in the third generation. We were impressed with his nice topline, shoulder, hindquarters and wide chest. Another sweetheart, this pretty girl is the bargain of the day. Her handler, the stable’s AT, has a soft spot for this lovely mare and it’s easy to see why. “Kitty” is another much loved horse who would remain in the stable as a track pony if the trainer’s daughter had her way! When we first saw him he was being hacked around the backside in western tack and we even got video of him doing a comfy lope on the path to the training track. He is a very mellow, very verstile horse who is sound on old knees. After watching him neck rein, turn on his haunches and lope in a western pleasure headset we were shocked to learn that this is only his third day under western tack! So he is apparently a quick learner as well as a mellow, mellow guy. His connections think he would make a terrific kid’s mount with his sweet and sensible disposition. While he was standing in the road, still in western tack, he nuzzled his head to my chest, closed his eyes and I could practically hear him purring! This beautiful horse has been sold to people who hope to retrain him to excel in the show hunter ring.

Some horses stand out and on this day of multiple, spectacular listings, this guy really grabbed us. Beacon Beach has earned well over $200,000 in his racing career, most of it at Monmouth Park. This well bred filly is just not cut out to be a racehorse, despite her dam’s stellar career on the racetrack. Her dam, Carlow, was a multiple Stakes winning/placed mare with over $300,000 in earnings. Her daughter doesn’t have her mom’s racing chops, but she does have tremendous potential as a young rider’s hunter/jumper prospect with her dainty and refined conformation. Wow! That’s what I said when this gorgeous girl walked out of her stall. This is one big girl, not only in height, but in body size. She is regally bred by sire Strong Hope out of a Cozzene mare. She was training until a hairline fracture in her left hind was detected by x-ray. The trainer states that she was never lame on the left hind but he has stopped on her. Her x-rays are available for review and, according to the vet, she will be good to go after some time off to let it completely heal. I think this amazing mare is more than worth the wait. She oozed class and elegance during her glamor shots on a very hot and humid morning.

Lord Jet is from the same excellent connections as his stablemate, Shadon. Well cared for and something of a barn favorite, Lord Jet has a thick forelock which gives him a rather dapper appearance. His tail at this time was curly from a mud knot and his handler remarked that it used to brush the ground. He has done his thing on the track and is ready for life beyond the dirt oval. Lord Jet is by AP Jet, from the Fappiano sire line, and his sire has produced several horses who have turned out to be excellent jumpers with good minds who do well in the show ring or in eventing. With his good movement and balance, we can see such a future for Lord Jet. He is reported to be sound and a perfect gentleman to work with.

Shadon is a handsome three year old gelding by sire Andromeda’s Hero. We caught him as he was being cooled out after breezing so he was still a bit warm. He was very quiet and cooperative and didn’t object to being asked to “perform” again when he was ready to take a break! Update: He has found a great new home! He is now in Illinois, where he will get rehab care for his knee and then will be a trail and pleasure horse for a new owner who is thrileld with his pretty looks and sweet personality.

Update July 2013:  We listed Pure Grit last fall, but then his owner decided to keep him for racing this year. He was rested over the winter, and came back to the track completely sound. But after multiple breezes a few days apart, his knee has started bothering him, so they have wisely decided ot stop on him, not race him, and find him a good home. With a little time to rest the knee, his trainer is confident he should once again come back sound, and looks like he has good potential as a children’s hunter or pleasure horse. He is very sweet and quiet, and a lovely mover.

This handsome unraced young and gentle horse is ready to move on from the racetrack because he is showing that he is just not cut out for racing. Put into training this year, he developed a sore tendon, and they wisely stopped on him before any serious damage was done.  He will need a couple more months off to fully rehab it, and then he should be fine for any activity, including jumping. Many top event horses and show hunters have old healed tendon injuries. Believe it or not, his pre-racehorse career was as a lesson horse! His owner/trainer describes him as easy to work with and very nice to ride. He proved to be quite the peppermint hound and gladly accepted our pats and scritches while we took his glamour shots.

King’s Fez understandably attracted a lot of interest from eventers and dressage folks when he was listed last year, but his trainer decided to keep him for more racing this season. But now, the horse is letting him know he has no more interest in racing, so the owner/trainer has decided it really is time to find him a new home and new career. This very handsome horse looks to be a great event or dressage prospect.  He is an excellent mover, with a gorgeous shoulder and a balanced compact build. This stunning big and quiet boy raced only once as a two year old and was put back on the farm to continue growing into his big frame. In his training this year he has shown no speed, so his trainer has decided to retire him to a non-racing career, since he has so much potential there. The trainer thought perhaps he was a bit sore in his shoulders after speed workouts (but not after galloping), but he has been checked over by their vet who has not found anything. He is a real eye catcher with his massive shoulder, gorgeous bone and great feet. His legs are clean. We noticed he has a beautiful uphill build and nice suspension. He trotted out quietly despite the gusts of chilly winds that had the rest of us zipping up our coats a little tighter. His groom says he he is a very sweet guy, easy to work with and has no vices. His trainer feels he will do very well away from the track.  So if you’re that person who is seriously looking for a great horse with great potential come see this lovely guy.

Before I saw this guy I ran into his trainer at the training track and he took the opportunity to gush about what a special horse he is. The connections truly love their animals and take pride in giving good care, which shows in the Finests they have placed through us. By Hook and Ladder, Pegasus is well balanced, beautifully conformed and has the most unique “spots” on his white markings. His blaze is spotted and all four white socks are spotted as well!
