Her groom (who adores her) says she’s not afraid of anything, is very sweet to handle outside of her stall, good to ride and really likes women. We watched them cuddling. She is such an unusual color, almost a buckskin with a great quarter horse build. She is beautifully bred by Belong to Me out of a Capetown mare. The trainer said she has just too many horses this year and Lorna just never got started so they would like to find her a new home.  They have had her since she was weanling so you can get all her history. A trainer favorite, this flashy guy is ready to retire from the track. He’s been off from racing for about a month now. Described by his trainer as solid, sweet and easy to handle, just seeing the pictures of him with her daughter says it all. We can verify he was was very quiet for his pictures that involved a lot of fussing over him and mints galore. Wouldn’t you love to see the beautiful face of this handsome son of the great Grand Slam greeting you every day? What an athletic sport prospect — eventers should jump all over this young guy! His trainer says this boy is just not interested in being a racehorse but he does want a job and he feels he would make a great show horse/jumper/eventer.  He also says Digby is sound with no vices. Digby had just back to the track from the farm when we saw him. Despite that he very was good to handle and has great presence. When he jogged for his video he showed good suspension and cadence and was light on his feet.  His handler said when he gallops he is a gorgeous mover. We admired his alert intelligent expression, and his uphill build and strong shoulder. Digby B has a good sport/jumping pedigree. Update: Aug. 24, 2013:  When we were previously told that Gazellephant had been sold, it turns out she was actually placed with another trainer at Finger Lakes Race Track, who still wants to find her a great new home.

This beautiful girl is definitely more gazelle than elephant! Very pretty and very sweet, she is unraced. They put her in training this spring, and she developed a sore left front tendon. As you can see from her clean legs, she has not bowed her tendon, but her trainer wisely wants to stop on her and find her a good new home and new career less strenuous than racing.  Give her some rest and let her finish growing and filling out, and you may well have a wonderful horse for many disciplines.  There is also definite broodmare potential here. She was sold for $40,000 as a yearling, and she is by  the excellent sire Grand Slam out of a stakes placed, stakes producing mare. Lots of good sport sire lines as well: Gone West, Dixieland Band, Secretariat, TV Lark, Princequillo, Ribot.

This very pretty, well balanced and sound guy drew us in with his alert elegance and friendly personality. He has been a hard knocking successful race horse who has won over $95,000 for people, but this year he is telling his owner/trainer that his heart just isn’t in the racing game anymore, so it is time to find him a new career.  With his looks, clean legs, balance, great shoulder, intelligence, and nice movement, we can see that career being anything, from the hunter ring to eventing, dressage, or even a great trail horse. What a cute, well put together guy — good things come in small packages.  He is lightly raced, and didn’t even run until he was 5, so there’s not much wear on tear on him at all. What a handsome package: Solid body, balanced compact uphill build, beautiful head, sweet and sensible personality.  Although he is still a stud, there is nothing studdish about him. His owner/trainer, who loves him dearly, told us he is very well mannered and easy to work with, has no vices, and has been stabled next to fillies with no problems. He has had this horse for three and a half years, and he is one of his favorites. Stunning black beauty! This big girl is solidly built, well balanced with a great shoulder, deep chest, and strong rear end.  She is also very flashy looking with her big white blaze. She came to her current owner/trainer earlier this year not in the best of shape, and he has restored her to sleek health, but she still has some foot issues he is working on. She had a deep foot abscess that only came to the surface a few weeks before her photo session, so she was still barefoot and tender, so we asked him not to jog her. But she did show a big strided flowing walk. We watched some of her race videos, and it looks like she is a good mover with a balanced flowing canter. She has been a good race horse, winning at the allowance level at Belmont. Her trainer thinks she would make a great broodmare; her sire, Catienus, is turning out to be a good broodmare sire. This hunky boy is described by his trainer as “the love of her life.”  He raced very well for her last year, but she wants to find him the very best of new non-racing homes because this year he displaced his palate when asked for speed work. We were so delighted to meet this lovely lady. While we got her ready for her photos she was friendly, sweet and oh so quiet. We noticed her lovely cadence and suspension as she trotted for us despite the sweltering hot day. Her coat is beautifully dappled soft and shiny.
