For our volunteers, it was ALL love as we admired this gorgeous big kind mare with a fantastic sport horse pedigree.  Over her racing career, Mostly Love has won 6 races, with 20 in the money finishes. But her owner/trainer says she is letting him know she just doesn’t want to race anymore, so it is time to find her a new career where her beautiful shiny looks, solid build, and big strided good movement will turn heads.  He says she is sound, is a “big pet,” and that she turns out well with other horses, both geldings and mares. Hubba Hubba — on a day when we saw many big beautiful bays, Kitchi Warrior won our volunteers’ hearts as the handsomest hunk of the day!  This gorgeous solidly built guy could easily blend in amongst warmbloods in the show arena.  We admired his balanced build, strong shoulder, top line, elegant head, dappled gleaming coat, and kind intelligent eye– he looks show ring ready. He is clean legged, and his owner/trainer says he is very sound and a very good sensible  horse to work with, with no vices. Kitchi has a good racing record, with 6 wins, and 17 in the money finishes, but his owner wants to retire Kitchi from racing because he has developed a partially obstructed airway at top racing speeds, exacerbated in the hot humid weather this summer. He says Kitchi has no breathing issues when galloping, does not make a noise, and should be fine for any discipline that involves less than the full speed of racing.  Kitchi showed dressage type movement for his jog video, with nice suspension and engagement from behind.  The owner says he had Kitchi on his farm over the winter, and he was great to handle and good to turn out with other horses.  He is offered at a bargain price for such a big, clean legged, gorgeous horse, so call fast!

Yes, indeed, this big, elegant, almost black granddaughter of Dynaformer had us waxing poetic!  We see exceptional sport horse potential. Poem posed like a model, as we admired her strong shoulder, dapples, kind and intelligent eye — and the cute gray spot on her right shoulder.  She is ready to find a career other than racing, because since she broke her maiden earlier this year, she is not as competitive in the next level of race conditions.  Poem slightly bowed a tendon last year, before she raced, but it was fully rehabbed, and is now cold and tight and causes no soundness issues. Since she started her race career last October, she has run regularly, so we do not think she will have any limitations for any new career.   She showed good suspension and engagement for her jog video. We also watched the race video of her one winning race, and as she trotted back to the winner’s circle we observed a very lofty big trot that suggests excellent potential for dressage or eventing.  And her pedigree shouts sport horse!  Her sire Purim was a major stakes winner on turf and dirt, and he is by the great Dynaformer, well known as a sire of athletic jumpers and horses with endurance. Another wonderful durable war horse, the handsome and adorable Buddy Red is still sound and clean legged and quite a lovely mover after 69 starts, with 8 wins and 32 in the money finishes.  He is really just a big puppy dog — his owner/trainer kept saying what a good kind horse he is, not the slightest bit studdish. Just think what a great gelding Buddy will be!  We experienced Buddy’s agreeable good-to-handle nature for ourselves when one of our volunteers offered to jog him for his video, since his owner/trainer has limited mobility.  Buddy trotted politely on a loose lead, stepping out nicely and showing off a beautiful flat kneed ground covering trot. We think Buddy is a true gem, who could excel in any new discipline. This adorable, compact, sweet little gray girl is unraced and clean legged — and a clean slate for any new career. With her small size we think she could make a great polo horse, but we also think she could do well in jumping disciplines, given her pedigree. Her sire is by Halo out of a Secretariat mare. This very pretty and well bred mare dazzled us with her classic, correct, solid conformation, and her in your pocket sweetheart personality. She has been a very good race horse, with 7 wins, and 17 in the money finishes in her 34 starts. In her most recent race in mid-July, she came back sore on a knee that had chips in it (which she had successfully raced on). So now it is time to retire her, and she will need time off to rest her knee.  Her owner has not had it x-rayed since the recent race.  With her excellent pedigree and beautiful conformation and good race record, we think she is an excellent broodmare prospect, either for racing or for sport. She is by top sire Leroidesanimaux, best known as the sire of Derby winner Animal Kingdom.  Her dam is by champion Gulch, who is proving to be a very good broodmare sire.  Her second dam is a full sister to Travers winner Corporate Report, and is from the Damascus sire line through his son Private Account.  Lots of quality black type in her female family. It was love at first sight for our volunteers! Raul was pleasant and kind in his meet and greet with our volunteers again today– just as he’s been in our past meetings despite all sorts of weather! He seems to understand that our time with him is the start of his new off the track life. He enjoys socializing with us, taking in the sights, and genuinely just “hanging out” in the afternoon sun. He was truly a favorite of the day and we would love to follow his future successes. When we asked his connections to describe him for us he kept repeating “he is just a very good boy”. We certainly agree! Roar of Raul unfortunately suffered a bowed tendon in his left front in his most recent race, and will need some time and rehab before he can reach his full potential– but we have seen many horses with bowed tendons come back to lead full careers off of the track. He jogged well on the injury, but it is still swollen. As always, a vet check is  recommended. Roar of Raul has a beautiful, correct build, a kind eye, and the pleasant demeanor that will make him successful as your next horse. Imagine him after a nice let down period with his excellent structure all filled out. He will be stunning! Kentucky bred by Songandaprayer, Kaylyn’s best races were run on the surface of Gulfstream Park in 2014, ending her 2014 with a win at a mile on the dirt (ironically, FLF 2015 alum Go To Work was also in that race!). The year off would have to be discussed with the owner/trainer who states that she has breathing issues and that is why she has tailed off. She is very nicely put together and has a pretty head set off with a striking blaze. While we did her interview on one of the main roads, there were water trucks and a tractor going by and she didn’t seem to be bothered by any of the activity and noise. It was difficult to get a nice jog on a loose lead because she was ramped up but, at the price, a trip to the track to meet her up close and personal is well worth it.

This lovely lass may be the bargain of the day! Look past the dusty coat  and there is a pretty filly who will blossom with some elbow grease and TLC. She was very sweet and quiet while we posed her on the road and, because of a language barrier, we were not able to get a lot of information about her, but we did notice a left knee that looks to have sustained some injury. What a cutie patootie! Never raced Maria walked out of the barn and stood like a Breyer horse for her photo shoot. We think she would be a sweet mount for a smaller rider and her pedigree is remarkable for its strong sport/jumping lines. She’s from the Broad Brush/Ack Ack sire line out of a Prime Timber mare, who is from the Cox’s Ridge line. We observed an irregularity in her left knee but the handler was unable to give information on it, however, a PPE would sort that out. If you like the “look of eagles”, this pretty granddaughter of A.P. Indy  had a lot of that going on during her interview! She was very alert, probably concentrating on the horses she could see galloping on the training track, but she was polite and kept all four on the floor. She also was kept on a loose lead and was very respectful of her handler. Her trainer says she is a very good girl, great to handle.  She was certainly affectionate and curious with us. We loved her athletic build with a big shoulder and engine topped by a pretty head and perfect blaze. As we watched her trot for her video we noticed that she tracked up nicely at the walk and had a lovely, springy trot with great flowing reach. We have a hunch that she is an athletic mare and her race record (50% in the money finishes out of 33 lifetime starts) would suggest that she is not only athletic but has a big heart as well. Alas, Jen isn’t feeling the racetrack this year, but she certainly has potential for just about any discipline away from racing. We can see her excelling in eventing, dressage, or the hunter ring. This tall, leggy, lightly raced,  daughter of Grand Slam has outstanding broodmare  potential for racing or sport, given her build, breeding, and movement!  She has the long and leggy, big sloping shoulder, classic thoroughbred looks, and she is described as a very friendly people horse, a sweetheart with no marishness or vices who greatly prefers carrots over peppermints. It is with a heavy heart that this beloved pet is offered for sale to someone who will love him and pamper him as much as his current connections do. Rico, who has made almost $100,000 on the track, is not in his competitive years and, while sound, the deep, cuppy racetrack is taking a toll on his big, heavy frame and his owner/trainer is electing to stop on him so he can be fully useful in his second career. His flashy good looks speak for themselves but his huge personality can’t be captured in pictures! In some ways, Rico is like the class clown: mugging for treats, craning his neck into the shedrow for scritches and always up for some one-on-one time with his human admirers. His morning routine includes a stop at Aunt Bev’s where he has his usual: a serving or two of peppermints and the affirmation that he is a very good boy!

Over the winter, Rico was turned out with some of his stablemates, including a mare, a filly and another gelding who is the stable track pony. Ever the lover and never a fighter, Rico go t along with everyone and made full use of his hillside paddock with many romps with his pals and stayed fit and strong during his vacation.

He had his glory years on the racetrack and now it’s time for him to have many, many more glory years in the showring or as a permanent fixture in his new person’s riding program. His trainer suspects that he will be ready to start rehabbing in about a month, but ultrasounds have not recently confirmed his current place in the healing process. He was sound at the walk and tracked up nicely.  He was just slightly off at the jog and minimal swelling was noted.  His current trainer has been taking care of it appropriately.  This is a serious bargain for someone willing to put in a bit of TLC with the end result being a drop dead gorgeous, well bred, friendly gelding. Randie is indeed a dream — this barn favorite is described as a big sweet  puppy dog who is always well behaved.  We saw his friendly and laid  back personality first hand as he mooched for mints and jogged quietly, showing off lovely light movement for such a  big growing young horse.  Randie is lightly raced with only 6 starts, and even though he recently broke his maiden, his connections know he isn’t going to succeed in the tougher level of competition he must now face, so they want to do the right thing and let him find a new career while he is still so sound and clean legged.  He has unlimited potential for any new direction. This gorgeous grandson of AP Indy is a dream horse for those who appreciate that there are few things more beautiful than an elegant plain bay thoroughbred!  Lightly raced, clean legged and sound, still growing and likely to top out at close to 16.3, Summer Warrior is letting his connections know that he just doesn’t want to be a racehorse. We think he just wants to float around the show ring and beg for treats!  He displayed lovely light flowing movement for his jog video.  Summer Warrior is described as a very friendly horse who loves candy and kids; we saw this for ourselves as he nuzzled and played with the young son of one of the barn workers, and the trainer’s wife showed us photos on her phone of Summer Warrior cuddling with kids in his stall.  Unlimited potential for any discipline — call fast because big, young, sound, lovely movers with kind temperaments are what everyone wants!

If you like black beauties with chrome, then Be Brief is for you! To add to the attractive package, he is a friendly and kind horse, good to handle, and a nice mover too. We first listed Be Brief last fall, but the owner then decided he wanted to keep racing him, and sent him to a new trainer. This year, the new trainer has convinced the owner it is time to let Be Brief move on to a good new home to enjoy a new career. We were told that Be Brief is sound, but he has a paralyzed flap which impairs his racing ability. He has not had tie back surgery, so that remains an option.

This handsome, solidly built guy with a very kind, gentle eye is ready for a new career.    Starship Liberty has excellent bone structure with correct, uphill conformation.  We were quite impressed with what a nice mover he is,  with good reach and suspension with movement from his shoulder.  His trainer reports he is sound with no vices, but he has let them know he just does not want to race anymore. In a race this spring, he refused to leave the starting gate, so now he needs a new job..  This is another opportunity to get a solid, sound, young gelding for a  bargain price.

Update July 2:  Broadway Market recently got a puncture wound on her leg, and it is being treated with antibiotics and wrapped, and she is recovering well and will eventually be fine. But she now needs to find a good new home as soon as possible, so her price has dropped significantly to a good home.

Another flashy girl that will help you stand out in any ring!  Broadway Market is very lightly raced, with only 1 start, and is just too slow to continue training.  She is a big stocky girl, and at only 3 years old, she will continue to grow and fill out.  She is a great option for a taller rider looking for a young, lightly raced girl to bring along.  She was very quiet during her meet and greet today, which her connections report is very typical.  They state she is always kind to work with, despite her young age.  Her legs are nice and clean.   She has no vices.
