Seeking Anita, 7 year old, dark brown 15.2+ gelding: Placed through FLTAP

Update:  Seeking Anita is at the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program barn on the track, as of July 2013, where he awaits his new home. You can go see him there, and even try him out under saddle. Call FLTAP at 585-924-9510

Looking for a Black Beauty all your own? This gorgeous guy will fill the bill. His lovely expression tells the story on this flashy guy. Cute and compact he handles well. She said he is good to gallop and has turned out well at the farm. His sire, Seeking the Gold, is a multimillion dollar winner and this boy looks a lot like him. He was very quiet despite all the activity going on on the nearby track and stood very nicely as he watched all the horses going by. She said he just isn’t interested in being a racehorse any longer and would like to find a good home for him. She says he’s a nice boy who needs an experienced rider who will be rewarded with a guy who likes to do the work. She said he  is sound on an old ankle and has no vices.

Time to Go Girl , 5 year old, bay 15.3+ mare

Sold to be a hunter.

As her name says it’s time for this sweet lady to leave the track. This girl was so quiet and very attentive to her trainer. She had just run the day before but was a happy girl and let us play with her pretty forelock and give her lots of mints. Her riders say she is good ride and very easy to handle. She has a gorgeous topline and neck that gracefully comes out of her great shoulder. With her level topline and short back we feel she might be a great candidate for dressage. Her trainer says she is retiring sound and with her lovely disposition should should transition easily to life after the track. She says she cribs at feeding time but doesn’t otherwise and doesn’t wear a collar. You should definitely come out to look at this nice girl if you are looking for a wonderful companion/competitor and view her when the weather will show you her soft shine. Videos to follow later.

Asking: $800 that is highly negotiable to the right home.

Helyna’s Dreaming, 4 year old, dark brown, 15.3+ filly: Placed through FLTAP

She found a great new home through FLTAP!

This striking mare is now at the Finger Lakes Adoption Program barn, where she is still looking for her great forever home.  If you are interested contact FLTAP at 585-924-9510.

This striking girl has decided she just doesn’t want to be a racehorse anymore. We were very impressed with her pretty face, compact build and nice topline. She has a nice shoulder and is well balanced. Her trainer says she is very quiet to handle but a bit protective in her stall. She has been turned out at the farm and is mid level in the turn out group. Her trainer says she is clean, sound and has no vices and could go in any direction. She feels she could do well with a novice rider after some further training. The weather that day was overcast and dull and doesn’t do her fancy coat justice. Her unique coloring certainly will get her noticed anywhere she goes. She will be very flashy under tack showing off that fancy tail. Her trainer has lovingly cared for her and would like to see her to go to a good home.

Western Deed 16.3 h bay 8 y.o. gelding – New Price

Western Deed is a kind sweet war horse who is ready to retire. He’s a classy guy who is playful yet quiet. He is healing nicely from a bow and should be ready to find a new career soon. He has a great shoulder with a quiet walk and trot and looks to have good potential in multiple areas except racing or upper level eventing. He would be glad to come home with you to be loved and fussed over and, no doubt, grateful to have a new job to do.

Cool Mountain, 8 year old, bay, 16.3 gelding

Another gallant war horse who has certainly earned his retirement to a loving home.  His owner raved about what a sweet and loving horse he is, always trying to please. You can see this in his wise old soul face and eyes. She also said he is great to ride, with a big smooth stride. He has shown great heart in his racing career, winning 7 races. But this year, he is not running well, telling his people he is ready for a new life.  He was perfectly behaved for his photo session. She said he had a tendon strain a few years ago, but it is well set and he is completely sound on it, racing regularly.  We can see this wonderful horse giving someone many years of pleasurable rides and great companionship.

Howie and the Cat, 3 year old, chestnut, 16h gelding

Here is a handsome, quiet, and loving guy who needs someone to give him a chance at a good life.  He injured his knee is his last race, and needs time to recover before he can be used for light pleasure riding and companionship.  His owner/trainer loves this horse, and really hopes someone will step up for him, even though he will not be suitable for a sporting career.  He has not had the knee x-rayed. Howie was bred to be a top race horse, and started out in a leading stable. He won, showed great competitiveness, and was claimed away several times, finally landing in a barn who has given him excellent care and is dedicated to finding him a good home.  Please someone step up for Howie!

City Look, 4 year old, grey 16h, filly RIP 2008-2012

Unfortunately, she got a severe case of colic and did not pull through.  RIP sweet girl.

Very pretty, lightly raced, and described by her owner as a real lover.  She has shown no racing ability, so her owner wants to find her a new career.  With her good conformation and great sloping shoulder, she should be suitable for jumping and other sporting options. She also has an excellent pedigree, by leading sire City Zip. The day we saw her she had recently stepped in a hole and her rear ankle had puffed up as a result. Her owner had it x-rayed, and it is fine — just needs some minor recovery time, like any slightly twisted ankle does. Otherwise, her legs were nice and clean.  She was very quiet and well  behaved for her photo session, and displayed a nice flowing walk.  This lovely girl presents a great opportunity!

Felinefelon, 7 year old, 15.3h chestnut gelding

This wonderful wise soul has been a hard trying war horse who has won races for many different owners over his successful career, racking up over $126,000 in earnings with 8 wins and 17 in the money finishes.  He has now earned a well deserved retirement to a non-racing life where he will be loved and enjoyed.  He is clean legged and sound, and his groom described him as a very sweet and kind horse.  He posed and jogged quietly for us, and showed intelligent interest in the goings on around him. We saw him the day after a race. His groom said he has always had a slight hitch behind at the trot — that is just his way of moving, not an unsoundness. We saw him move out well. Honest, sensible and giving horses full of heart and try like this guy are real treasures.  If ever a horse deserved a forever home it is this one — and he should be able to do anything you want, whether trail riding, hunter paces, cross-country, pleasure riding.

King Kong Kingdoms, 7 year old, bay, 16.1 gelding

A king indeed!  He is a gorgeous, quality sport prospect who is a lovely mover.  His trainer says he is a very happy horse, who has no vices, loves people, and gets along well with other horses on turnout or in group riding situations.  She says that his owner, who is her mother, is generally afraid of horses, but loves King Kong and always wants to walk him.  He raced well in the past, but this year has tailed off, so his trainer knows it is time to find him a great home that can help him excel in a new career. She says he is completely sound, and his legs are clean.  With his looks and quality and movement, we can see him as a fancy show horse, or an event or dressage prospect.  He has an excellent pedigree for sport and jumping. His grandsire is Cryptoclearance, who is by Fappiano. His dam is by Personal Flag, who is by Private Account, by Damascus.  There are also crosses of Buckpasser and Hoist the Flag and Ribot.  A horse this nice will not last long – don’t wait to call about him!

This handsome classy guy  is sound, a nice mover, and described by his trainer as a really good boy. He was an excellent racer last year, but now he is letting his trainer know he is just not interested in racing anymore. Because he has such excellent potential for a new sporting career, she wants to find him a great new home.   His barn nickname is “Bear,” as in “teddy.”  She says he has no vices and is so easy to work around and quiet that a child can handle him. We observed him standing like a perfect gentleman as his bridle path and muzzle were trimmed for his photo session. We also admired his nice suspension and movement, and can easily see many different sport disciplines in his future . This is a high quality prospect, but he would also be perfectly happy taking you on trail rides.

Clever Flight, 4 year old, chestnut, 16.1+ gelding

This very pretty, quiet and friendly young guy impressed us with his good looks and great manners. He posed and walked and jogged quietly even though wind gusts and driving rain suddenly appeared through sunshine just as he came out for his photo session. He has a flowing walk with a big overstep.  He had just raced a couple of days earlier, and his knee came up a bit sore.  It was x-rayed, and there are no fractures or chips — just some fluid.  It was already not hot or puffy when we saw him.  Because he had not been showing any great talent as a race horse, his trainer does not want to push him further, and wants to find him a great new home where his potential for a new career can be realized.  His groom said he is a very good boy, and we watched him snuggling with his person.  Please step up for this lovely boy and become his new person. Grand Rapture, 4 year old, chestnut, 16.1 gelding

With his long strided daisy cutter gorgeous trot, and his quiet demeanor, we think this pretty young horse is a fancy show hunter in the making. We ran into his exercise rider on our way to see him, and she raved about how nice he is to ride, very soft, with a smooth and rhythmical stride.  His trainer says that in his races he just likes to get into a steady pace and gallop quietly along near the back — something that we can see being a real asset in cantering around a hunter course in an easy soft way. Even though his feet had just been trimmed and he was barefoot, he showed beautiful movement with a big and flowing stride. He has been on a farm for two months being let down, so he is ready to restart right away. His trainer says he is very sweet, and completely sound. There are some great jumping lines in his pedigree, with With Approval,Copelan, Buckpasser, Hoist the Flag, Ribot, Princequillo. This  is a very high quality prospect.

What an athletic, nice moving, intelligent mare with huge potential for a sport career.  She was very well behaved for her photos and jog on a cold windy day, as we admired her solid boned and balanced build. Even though her feet had just been trimmed and she was barefoot, she moved very well on hard ground, showing good suspension and push from behind, good reach at the trot, and a long strided flowing walk. Her trainer said she is a good girl to handle, and has been a good racer, but it is just time to stop and find her a new career.  She has been on a farm letting down, so she should easily transition.

Flashy, great mover, and with a great personality — come see why he is his trainer’s favorite, and you too will quickly fall for this beautiful  horse.  There is so much to admire about this prince, that we couldn’t take our eyes off him: very well balanced, excellent shoulder and deep chest, solid bone, nice topline, clean legs except for one old splint, a long strided flowing walk, excellent suspension, reach and float at the trot.  His head is so pretty that we just kept taking pictures, drawn in by his kind eye and intelligent alertness.  His trainer says he is quite a character, a horse who loves to work, enjoys life, and shows his happiness with squeals of glee.  She kept telling us how much she loves this horse, and it is easy to see why.  With his looks, movement, and obvious athleticism, we can see him going in many directions, from fancy show hunter to upper level eventing.

This pretty, well balanced boy is doing well with his work outs but his trainer feels he’s ready to leave the track. He says he is an easygoing guy who could, once gelded, transition easily to a new career. He was super quiet despite all the activity going on around him when we took his pictures. He is certainly eye catching, likes mints and lots of attention. His trainer says he is sound with no vices. Come out to evaluate this fancy gray horse for yourself. Walkin Boss, 5 year old, dark bay, 16+ gelding

As she was bringing him out, his trainer told us she thought this horse is an excellent hunter/jumper prospect, and as soon as we saw him and watched him move, we wholeheartedly agreed!  He has a good solid build, with a pretty head, and he is a very nice mover, with good suspension and step from behind and a fluid flat kneed floaty stride. His trainer said he is very springy and athletic, very light and nice to ride, and good and kind in his stall. She described him as a very friendly guy, who loves people and mints. Mizz’s Midas Touch, 2 year old, 16.1 + bay filly

This pretty big girl looks very well balanced for a two year old.  She has a beautiful face, deep chest and sloping shoulder.  Her front legs are clean, although her knees don’t seem quite fully closed yet. She has had three races, and showed some ability but her trainer says her knees were not ready to hold up, and he does not want to push her and risk injury, since she has so much obvious potential for another career. He thinks, and we agree, that if you give her some time to grow up and physically mature, you will have a really nice show or sport horse.  When she jogged for her video, she showed beautiful movement. She was also remarkably quiet and well behaved for such a young horse, and she seemed alert and intellilgently interested in what was going on.  There are some excellent sport lines in her pedigree — from the Touch Gold, Deputy Minister sire line, with Buckpasser, Hoist the Flag, Ribot, Gone West, Cox’s Ridge, In Reality and Never Bend. Great reward for those who are patient.

What a pretty solid bodied hunk of horse, and he also has personality plus! His groom kept saying how much he likes him, how great  he is to work with, and a funny playful goofball. Just look at him sticking his tongue out at the camera!  Because he has such good bone, strong shoulder, chest, and hind end, he seems much bigger than he is –which suggests he could carry a bigger person.  He was described as sound, and we have rarely felt such cold, clean tight legs on a racehorse. They say he is a morning glory who doesn’t run as well in the afternoon, so it is time to find him a new career. He has only had 15 races, and was not pushed when young. When he jogged for his video, we saw a beautiful mover, with good suspension and reach.  We think Ziggy is made for the children’s hunter or small junior hunter show ring.

A pretty Artax daughter, out of a mare with Best Turn and  Turn-to and Private Account and Damascus close up in her family — terrific sport and jumping genes.  We admired her beautiful kind eye and nice topline, as well as her solid compact build.  She has some ankle rounding from racing, but her legs felt cold and she jogged well.  She was very quiet for her photo session, and just wanted to snuggle and munch on mints. She just doesn’t want to be a racehorse anymore, and she kept looking at us as if to say “please take me with you.”  She also has some broodmare value, since her dam was a very durable racehorse who won over $200,000 and has produced many hard knocking winners.  Come see her and she will work her way into your heart too.

Secrets Only, 5 year old, dark bay, 16.2 gelding – price reduced

Wow, what a high quality stunning horse — even more impressive in person than in the photographs.  Dappled and glowing with good health and care, he is solid boned, well put together, with an intelligent and regal attitude. Although it was cold and blustery, he was very well behaved for his photographs and jog. His trainer raved about what a nice horse he is, sound and clean legged, wonderful to work with and to ride. He showed beautiful movement, with a long strided, lofty walk, suspension and a toe pointing reach to his floaty trot.  We also watched videos of some of his races, and they showed a fluid, efficient, long strided gallop and canter.  He has been successful on the track, winning seven races and placing in stakes, but his speed is not holding up against tougher race competition so his trainer thinks it is time to find him an exceptional home that will bring out his unlimited potential in a new sporting career.

Tanzillion, 4 year old, 16.1 bay gelding – Placed!

Good looking, athletic, well put together, and clean legged, this young horse has unlimited potential. Don’t be put off by the fact that he had not yet been washed off after his morning exercise: he was listed last year before being sold to new people for continued racing, and those photos were taken earlier in the summer, and show what a pretty bay dappled coat he can have when it is not approaching the wooly season.  He was feeling full of himself on a cold blustery day, and showed great prancy suspension for his jog video.  With his slightly uphill build we could just imagine him showing off in dressage. Based on our memory and the video from last year, he is a very good mover with lots of athleticism.  The only blemish on his legs is cosmetic, where white hair grew in over a scar from a cut he suffered as a 2 y.o.  His legs were cold and tight.  He is just not showing any racing ability this year, and he needs to find a new home as soon as possible.  Another diamond in the rough with huge potential, at a bargain price.

Offshore Score, 3 year old, dark bay, 16.+1 gelding

This elegant youngster impressed us with his beautiful head, lovely topline, great shoulder and excellent balanced conformation. The overall picture is a horse that will excel in the hunter show ring — but with his athleticism eventing should be a great direction too.  This picture was reinforced when we saw him jog for his video — he is a beautiful mover, with a toe pointing trot that will get ribbons in the hunter under saddle or dressage ring. Good things come in plain brown wrappers!  This sweet and quiet guy impressed us with his kind eye, good shoulder and hind end, and balanced build.  With his build and demeanor he should be able to go in many directions, from sport to loving best friend. He trainer said he is good to handle and sound, just not running well anymore.  He was beautifully behaved for his photos and jog.  Other than slight ankle rounding that comes from racing, his legs are clean, and they were cold and tight. He is a nice mover, and all around nice guy.  He has a very interesting pedigree for jumping potential, by a son of Indian Charlie and a Halo mare, by a dam who is a daughter of Dixieland Band. If you are looking for a thoroughbred who looks like a warmblood but with the beautiful refinement of the thoroughbred head, this gorgeous and dashing horse is for you. Big and solidly built, he is also very balanced and well put together.  He has a huge shoulder and an uphill build, which should attract eventers and dressage riders.  He has such a beautiful face, and a wise, kind and soulful look to his eye. Please forgive his dusty appearance – he was bathed before his photos so his beautiful black coat would gleam, but then he went into his freshly cleaned stall and rolled. Trust us – he has one beautiful rich coat. He was very mellow for his photos and jogged quietly for his video, showing very good movement. His trainer said he is very nice to handle, but just not racing well this year so it is time to find him a new career. He is described as a light cribber, but we did not see him try it all while we were there.  What a bargain!

What a big, solid boned, handsome athlete! His handler described him as intelligent and bold, and she thinks with those attributes he would make a great event horse – and we agree. She also told us she has seen him show a passage- like collected, elevated and suspended trot under saddle.  He was quiet and well behaved for his photos and jog, and showed us that he is a lovely mover, with a big flowing stride.  The photos do not do this horse justice – he is stunning in person.  He has had some success on the track, but now has to run in tougher conditions where he is less competitive, so his trainer wants to find him a new career where he will shine.  Don’t wait long if you are interested in this one.

Mount Karakorum, 5 y.o. grey g. 16.2+ Update: New Price!

This very handsome grey is also friendly and sweet – a real people horse.  His groom described him as lovely to ride, and so quiet and well behaved that they use him to accompany and calm other race horses. We observed this in action, as she led him over to help retrieve a loose horse, and walked the two horses back together, with Mount Karakorum seeming to help steer his stablemate back to home.  He has a good shoulder and hind end, and such a pretty elegant head.  He will certainly get attention in the show ring. He is also a very nice mover, with the flat kneed toe pointing action that does well in the hunter ring.  His trainer wants to retire him to a good new home because he is no longer running well.  He has old and set osselets on his front ankles, but he is described as completely sound on them, and he certainly looked sound for his jog.  There are some great jumping lines in his pedigree. His sire Wheelaway has produced some successful show horses, and he is from the Fappiano line famous for producing eventers and jumpers. His dam comes from His Majesty, Ribot, Prince John, and Never Bend lines – all well regarded for producing  jumping ability.

His gorgeous head and soft kind eye really captured our attention. This elegant young horse has the classic thoroughbred look, and should be quite stunning when he gains weight and has his very overgrown toes trimmed. He just does not have enough racing talent to make it worth pursuing, so his trainer wants to find him a new home where he can blossom in a new career. He is very sweet and quiet, and good to handle. He posed very politely for his photos, with an intelligent alert interest, and he was very well behaved for his video. He showed a nice flat kneed movement at the trot. His trainer says he is sound and has no vices, and his legs are clean. We see real diamond in the rough potential here.

Run thru the Woods, 3 year old, 16.1 chestnut filly

This pretty, solid boned homebred has had only two races, and has shown no interest in being a racehorse. But she sure looks like a show hunter will be her niche. She has a great shoulder, strong hind end, and very balanced build. She is sound and clean legged. The resemblance to her handsome brother Bad Neighbor is obvious . She has the same quiet, sweet personality, and good movement – and the same dam who has already produced a successful jumper. Her trainer says she is very nice to ride, and has no vices. She has been hanging out at her owner’s farm near the track, so she should transition quickly to a new career – no racetrack let down time needed. There are excellent sport lines in her pedigree. Her sire Badge has produced several successful eventers and hunters who are good jumpers. On her dam’s side there are His Majesty, Ribot, Buckpasser, Tom Fool. Better call quickly – young, sound, pretty lightly raced show prospects like this girl don’t last long.

Nicejewel Cat, 4 year old, bay 16h filly: Sold to continue racing

Her trainer says she is a nice jewel indeed – very sweet and quiet with no vices. She has a nice compact balanced build, and is very pretty with her flashy white blaze and rear socks. It is time to retire her because she has an ankle that gets sore after a race; it was still a bit warm when we saw her two days after her last race. But with some rest she will be fine for a less strenuous career, since she has been sound to race on it this season when her races have been spaced a few weeks apart.  Because she will no longer race, she needs to find a new home very quickly, so please someone step up for this sweet and pretty girl and give her a chance at a good new life.

Led Advantage, 5 year old, 17h chestnut mare – price reduced!

We loved this big girl when she was listed last year, but then her trainer decided to keep racing her. She raced well earlier this year, but is now facing tougher conditions, so her trainer is ready to retire her to a new non-racing home. She is at least 17 hands, solid boned and very well put together, with an amazing shoulder and a deep chest.  She has noticeably filled out since we saw her last year.  She is a lovely flat kneed toe pointing mover with a very large stride. We can definitely see her as a show hunter.  Her trainer described her as quiet, sensible and good to handle. She is described as cribbing lightly when confined at the track, but did not do so over the winter at a farm. She has old set osselets on her right front ankle, but is described as completely sound on them – and she certainly jogged sound. There are some intriguing sport horse lines in her pedigree: Dixieland Band, Copelan, Tri Jet, Alydar, Ribot, Bold Ruler.

President Eaton, 4 year old, chestnut, 16.3+ gelding: Placed through FLTAP

President Eaton had been sold to keep racing, but is now at FLTAP!

Horses don’t’ get much more gorgeous than this big guy. When we were at his barn waiting for the trainer, we looked at him in the stall and said “Oh, we sure hope this is the one to list!” He is beautifully conformed, with clean straight legs, a huge shoulder and strong hindquarters, an elegant slightly dished head and a lovely soft kind eye,  and a dappled caramel color.  With his size and good bone, it is hardly surprising that he has a big stride and good suspension.  His trainer said he is quiet and good to handle with no vices. She also said he is good in turn out.  He was very quiet and well behaved for his photos and jog.  There are some good sport lines in his pedigree: Alydar, Gone West, Secretariat, Buckpassser.  A very high quality prospect for many disciplines!

Red to Positive, 4 year old, 16 bay filly

This flashy, white socked, pretty, and well made filly has a regal look about her, and she is also very sweet and friendly. Both her groom and trainer obviously love her. She raced well earlier this year, but has been less successful recently, so it is time to find her a new career. She is described as good to handle, and sound.  She had raced just a few days before we saw her, and she  was very well behaved for her photos and video. She is a nice mover, and with her great shoulder jumping should come easily to her.  She has multiple crosses of Secretariat, Buckpasser, and Bold Ruler in her pedigree – good sport genes.

Win the Day, 4 year old, bay, 16.2 h, gelding

This good looking, athletic young gelding has a great shoulder, clean legs, and a pedigree with great jumping genes.  Just imagine what he will look like when he has filled out and is cleaned up!  He was very quiet and well behaved for his photos, and looks like an athletic good mover.  He has not shown enough racing aptitude, so his trainer is anxious to find him a new home and new career as soon as possible. He is by the champion Pleasantly Perfect, from the Pleasant Colony, His Majesty, Ribot sire line. His stakes placed dam is by Oh Say, from the Hoist the Flag/Ribot line. Remarkable for a modern US thoroughbred, he is free of Mr. Prospector blood.  He is a light cribber, but please don’t let that deter you from giving this guy a chance. His potential upside is great, and he is quite the bargain.

Morden, 4 yo 16+h drk bay gelding: Video added!

Morden is a stunning horse that we just couldn’t take our eyes off of. His kind, intelligent eye seems to say it all. His trainer says he just isn’t interested in racing but would flourish in a new career away from the track. He is beautifully bred and is loaded with jumping and dressage potential.  We were able to get a recent video of him trotting, adn as you can see, he has a lot of suspension and is a good mover. He’s still a growing three year old boy so can you imagine what he’ll be like next year? We don’t think he’s going to last long so schedule a visit to see him in person soon.
