Big, handsome, friendly and quiet, clean legged and sound… and GREY!!!  His owner/trainer says this guy is a quiet and kind horse to ride and handle, has absolutely no vices, and is so sound and clean legged that she does not even wrap or bandage him after workouts or races. He just doesn’t seem that into being a race horse anymore, so she would like to find him a great new home where he can excel in a new career.  She says he is good in turn out, whether with other horses or alone. He was well behaved and alert while we took his photos, even though there was a lot of commotion going on around him, with horses coming and going from the track at the peak of morning training hours.  Because of all the horses being ridden around us, along with cars and trucks, we could not get a clear path to jog him for a video, but we saw a hint of nice suspension. We watched some of his race videos, and our impression that he is a good, balanced mover was confirmed.

Update June 23, 2014: Proud Parent has been accepted into the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption barn, located on the track premises, and you can see this sweetheart there and apply to be her adoptive home.

Described by her trainer as one of the kindest, sweetest horses she has even been around, this liver chestnut beauty wants to be your pampered pet and best friend.  Her trainer says that she is always sweet and quiet, even after she has had a week off. The trainer says she is a good to ride, with a soft mouth, and no spook. She turns out well with other horses, and does not try to be dominant in the group. Her trainer says she would love to be able to keep this mare for her own children to grow into, if only she had the facility.  Sounds like she will make some other family or horse crazy girl very happy. The trainer says she is sound on an old ankle chip that is not in the joint, and that she has raced on without problems. She wants to retire her to a great home because the mare is telling her that after enjoying the winter off, she just doesn’t want to deal with the stress of the track anymore. The mare showed off a nice flowing trot for her jog video’ we can see the hunter ring as a possible new career.

Classy and striking looking, with a well balanced build and a nice mover, this handsome grey has potential for many new career directions. His trainer says he needs the right person – an experienced horse person who will bond with him and appreciate his forward, strong work ethic. He says the horse can be a bit grumpy, but warms up to a regular kind handler.  We observed a friendly and very well behaved horse, who loved the peppermint treats his trainer gave him.  He also showed very nice balanced movement.  His trainer says he came back after a recent workout with a slight filling in a knee. They x-rayed his legs, and both knees and ankles came back clean, but with signs of usual racing wear.  But they feel he is too nice of a horse (he was Saratoga graded stakes placed at 2) to risk injury, so they want to retire him and find him a great new home where he can excel in a new career.

Wow! If you’re looking for big, sound, quiet and classy, look no further than this very impressive fellow. His owner/trainer is reluctantly parting with him, knowing that, while he is done racing, he has tremendous potential in another discipline.

Out of his stall, he obliged us by posing quietly for his photos while also politely honing in on the hidden mints in this writer’s bag! For such a big horse, he has very balanced conformation with a deep shoulder and powerful engine. When he came out for his video, he showed off a “floaty” trot. His owner/trainer also gallops him and states that he is sensible and very nice under saddle.

He has an old knee injury (as a 2 y.o.) and has been racing sound since.

This lightly raced beauty really caught our eye and, the more we saw,
the more we liked. She came to this trainer  underweight and she has
steadily put on weight but still has more to go. Once filled out and
topping out (probably in the 16.2+ range) we think this gal will be an
athletic stunner.

Out of her stall we saw a leggy, correct filly with a light, floaty
trot with lots of suspension. In our opinions, she has tremendous show
horse potential and, to add to the package. she is very sweet and
willing. Her trainer states that she trailers well, has a great
appetite and is very easy to work with.

We like her so much that we are very anxious that whoever her lucky
new person is will regularly give updates about her progress so we can
live vicariously through them.

The connections for this lovely boy never disappoint with horses they show us and, once again, they brought out a winner!

Daddy is described as a quiet, kind, laid-back fellow with absolutely no vices. His trainer states that he is 100% sound and is just ready to choose another career outside of racing. With his build and movement we think he has a hunter stamp on him but, truly, he is a blank slate.

If his looks aren’t enough of a score, his winning personality bumps him up a few notches. He let us give him lots of scritches and, as we fed him peppermints, his trainer joked that he is “well broke for peppermints”!

It is telling that he is the State vet’s favorite! The trainer will guarantee Daddy: if, for whatever reason, he doesn’t work out, he will take him back.

This little darling has a terrific pedigree for racing, so should be considered as a broodmare prospect. She is by Alphabet Soup out of a Catienus mare, Yet Again who is a stakes winning mare. Yet Again is a half to Carlow, also a stakes winning mare. Nonotyet also boasts balanced conformation, butt high now but it looks like she could easily top out at 16h or more.

She recently sustained a right front sesamoid crack for which she has been on stall rest. We were able to take her out of her stall for pictures and she was quiet and well behaved and quite sweet. Her x-rays are available as well as discussion about veterinary care and prognosis.

This little tank of a filly is adored by her groom and it is easy to understand why. She is lovingly referred to as “Midget” in the shedrow and was as sweet and kind as she could be. She has chips in both knees although she is sound and continues to train. Her x-rays are available for review.
