We admired his sweet face, soft eyes, lovely topline, as he stood like a perfect gentleman for his photo session and jogged quietly despite commotion around him. Beautiful and puppy dog sweet — we just couldn’t stop stroking Lateef’s lovely face as he begged for more attention and treats. His owner/trainer says he is a very quiet, well behaved and friendly horse. She says her young daughter goes in his stall to brush and pet him, and that he is very kid friendly.  She is retiring him from racing because he has developed some arthritic changes in an ankle, and she wants to find him a new career while he is still sound and happy.  She said the ankle has been x-rayed and there are no chips or fractures — just calcification changes that will require some rest to fully set and a career less stressful than racing. He had just lost a shoe (but she said he has really good feet), so he did not jog for a video, but we watched the video of some of his races and based on how he galloped out after the finish and trotted back, he looks like a lovely mover with a light, floating stride.

Beautiful, solid bodied, unraced, sound, ready to go right into training for the show ring or eventing! Ming’s Revenge has recently been started in race training, and had his first breeze the morning of his photo session.  He was started so late simply because his breeder had several horses, and not enough time –his trainer assured us he is completely sound, and we noticed that his legs are clean. Beautiful athlete, very good mover, light and balanced — huge sport potential here.  This very pretty filly with a great shoulder and clean legs is telling her trainer that she just doesn’t want to be on the racetrack anymore. Update June 2013:  Empire Express has been hanging out on his owner/breeder’s farm, near Saratoga. He is now fully let down from racing and is ready for a new job. He has been ridden occasionally on the farm, but has not yet had serious retraining. This is one of several horses bred and raced by the DeVittos. He is a son of champion Tiznow out of a stakes winning mare. We had been introduced to his spectacular full brother, New York Style (aka “Cheesecake”) just prior to seeing Empire and both of these fellas are equally drool worthy. Empire raced well and stayed sound and sane with over $100,000 in earnings under his belt(girth). At 16.2 hh, he has beautiful movement and would make a lovely dressage prospect, but one can also definitely seeing him eventing or drawing attention in the hunter show ring. We all commented on his beautiful head and eye! This gorgeous guy has been well cared for and loved his entire life, and only the best of homes will do for him.

Impress the Chief– impressive indeed!Beautiful, well balanced, good mover, sound, quiet and sensible, not at all studdish. Get him gelded and then he will be good to go in any direction. His groom said he is very nice to handle, and he was a perfect gentleman for his photos and for his jog video. He has not been racing well at all recently, since his current owner claimed him, so this owner says let’s not keep racing him and  ust find him a good home . But the owner wants him to move fast, so he is bargain priced for a horse of this quality. He has old pin fire marks on his front shins, which are at this time a cosmetic issue only, and is described to us as sound (though with an ankle chip)– and looked great while jogging for us. Gorgeous, elegant classic thoroughbred! This stunning young, clean legged big boy has quite a regal presence, as he should given his royal pedigree. Presidential history buffs will realize how cleverly he is named: he is by Quiet American out of AOL Hayes. His dam is a daughter of AP Indy, and both his first and second dam are stakes winners. His sire is from the Fappiano sire line, which is famous for producing sport horses/jumpers. Rutherford B was a perfect gentleman for his photos, and showed very nice movement with suspension and cadence for his jog video. His trainer says he has no vices, is fine to handle, and sound. He is just not running well, so they think it is time to find him a new career, since he has so much potential in other disciplines. With his great shoulder and uphill build we can see this horse excelling in any sport discipline, from dressage to eventing to the H/J ring. Classy beautiful young prospects like this one don’t come along very often — better call fast!

Metaxie, known as Mattie, Beautiful, sweet, smart, sound, lovely floaty big strided mover! We see show hunter stardom here. Our volunteers fell in love with this gorgeous girl, and came away convinced she is one of the nicest prospects we have listed. Her groom and the assistant trainer also love her, and just raved on and on about how nice she is, how sweet, how responsive, perfectly behaved, and nice to ride. They said the exercise riders fight over who gets to ride her. You can see from the photos that she stands to groom without even being tied — and they said she is like that in the wash stall too. She is clean legged and sound (the wraps on her front were just because the horses had been done up and put away for the morning by the time we got to her barn.) Her owner/trainer wants to place her because she is not proving to be competitive against the tougher class of race competition that she is now eligible for.

AKA Sassy this lovely filly is showing no aptitude for racing. She is out of training now and ready to transition to a new career. “Wally” is a homebred who is much loved by this owner/trainer and her family. Wally has a sweet, in-your-pocket, disposition and has never offered to kick, bite or put a foot wrong. This lovely fellow has simply never had a bad day with people.Wally is an imposing fellow, standing a true 17 hh with a substantial body. His owner/trainer/rider describes him as well balanced and able to carry a rider effortlessly.

Wally has a front suspensory injury that is not going to hold up to racing. His vet has ultrasounded the suspensory and is confident that with 3 months of rehab (e.g. controlled turnout such as in a round pen, hand walking, etc.) he will be ready to go on with his training, including jumping. Wally jogged sound for us, as you can see in his video.

We left this boy after much oohing and aahing and scritches, eager for the right someone to scoop up a truly spectacular-and special-horse.

Updated information April 2013:  She has filled out wonderfully over the winter, and looks stunning.  Her knee is sound, and she has been galloping. Her trainer plans to try running her again, but she is still available for purchase to a good non-racing home.
