If you are looking for a big, athletic, sound, upper level prospect, “Lazy” is it! This beautiful horse is the all-time favorite of his owner/breeder, and since she retired him from racing she was hoping to keep him as her personal riding horse. Health issues interfered with that plan, and she has reluctantly decided that he is too nice of a horse, with such great potential as a sport horse, to sit in her pasture. In late January she sent “Lazy” to a dressage trainer to restart, and after just three weeks he is showing big forward balanced gaits, steady contact in the bridle, and good engagement from behind. He should make an excellent dressage horse, but he is also a spectacular jumper. He was introduced to a jump chute, and wow, does he have scope, tight knees and a round bascule! Eventing may be the ideal direction for him to take advantage of both his dressage potential and jumping ability, but with his movement and jump he could do hunters or jumpers too. His owner/breeder says that he is very sound (and his legs are indeed clean), and that he is a very kind, people friendly, want to please kind of horse. The trainer says that at this stage of his development he is best for an experienced rider/trainer, because of his size and power and because his ground manners need work since he was spoiled by his time hanging out in the pasture. He turns out well with both geldings and mares.
He had only 17 starts, with two wins, and then spent three years turned out, so there’s not much wear and tear on him. He has a great sport oriented pedigree. His sire, Comeonmom, is by Jolie’s Halo from the Halo sire line out of a mare from The Axe and Stage Door Johnny lines. His dam is by Gate Dancer, out of a mare from a stout Tri-Jet/Crozier Fred Hooper family.

From The Point, 2011, 16h Bay Gelding

From The Point is approximately 16h tall and approximately 17h wide. Pictures do not do this boy justice, he is a TANK! His current connections feel he would make an excellent “husband horse” with a big western saddle because he is just thick all over! From the Point is relatively lightly raced with 7 starts. He has not raced in a few years. His trainer reports he has been a bit of a barn mascot. They bring him around and trailer him from track to track. Although he trainers, he has not had an official start in a few years. She reports he is a laid back easy keeper who enjoys his traveling. More recently he has been enjoying the farm life. He gets turned out daily in an individual paddock. It is reported that From the Point has no stable vides and is very, very easy to handle. From the Point is described as having only one goal in life-eating. A good home with plenty of grass and good feed is very important to From The Point! His trainer reports he is totally sound. He had a knee surgery many years ago to remove a chip but he returned to work sound and has remained that way. Clean X-rays are available. From The Point would likely be a good choice for someone looking to get into the OTTB world (but still has horse experience and working with a trainer) because of his calm demeanor. Amy’s Smile, 2009, 16h Dark Bay Mare

Located at a farm in Victor, NY (near Rochester, NY). Amy’s Smile is an adorable girl with a cute snip and an interesting story! She is very lightly raced with only 4 starts a few years ago. She is reported to have retired sound to her trainers farm in November 2015. Since then she has been enjoying the farm life and is used to daily turnout. Her owner reports she is typically very quiet and good to handle in her stall and in turnout and that she has no stall vices. She was a bit excited because of her friends running in the nearby pastures during our photo shoot. She showed nice movement at her jog video despite the mud and hilly jogging terrain. Because she has been hanging out at the farm, she will need to go to an experienced home familiar with restarting horses. She is a great bargain for someone looking for a big, sound, nice moving mare on a budget! She is by Orville N Wilbur’s out of a Wild Rush mare.

Flying Shaniko, 2009, 16.1, Dark Bay Gelding–retained by owner

Looking for a horse that’s ready to get back to work in a new discipline today?! “Calvin” has been let down, turned out and barefoot since his last race in September of 2016 and he is ready to restart your way! We observed this guy to stand perfectly still to be groomed. He is reported to have a wonderful temperament for any discipline. During our meet and greet at his owner’s farm, we saw a laid back, kind hearted, horse who was easy to handle and respectful of his handler despite his pasture mate calling for his attention. He was happy to hang out with us, beg for treats and scratches as we took his photos. He is by Shaniko out of a Mountain Cat Mare and earned over $119,000 in his time on the race track! Calvin is reported as sound with no vices, excellent stable manners and was a barn favorite to ride and gallop on his time at the track. His trainer reports he stands quietly for the vet and farrier, clipping, bathing, and grooming. He also cross ties well. He was turned out with a mare while we were visiting the farm, but his trainer reports he also went out with geldings over the winter-he is quite versatile! We could see this handsome guy going any direction! Calvin has already been let down and ridden a bit at the farm, so he may be an excellent option for someone new to the world of OTTBs intimidated by the thought of buying a horse directly off the track.
