Victory Tango is not only one of the chillest and sweetest fillies you could wish for, she is also a young, sound filly with a dream pedigree for sport. She was bred to go long on the grass so her lack of success sprinting on the dirt is no surprise. Her sire, Simmard, is by Dixieland Band out of a Spectacular Bid mare. Our last listing of the day was just as nice as all the other beauties we photographed, and our third gorgeous gelding by Frost Giant! This towering boy seems to be all legs and his racing performance hasn’t been promising, probably in part because of his size and his youth. His trainer explains that Frost N Fire was a bit wary of everything when he first arrived at the track but has done a complete turnaround and is now a personable and eager youngster who loves attention and peppermints, not necessarily in that order! He further tells us that he has a wonderful, even-keeled temperament and is every rider’s favorite horse to gallop. He is reported to be completely sound and his owner is only stopping on him because he is reducing his stock. We think he has tremendous potential and will get a lot of interest, so don’t wait on making a call.

Although he isn’t large in stature he has notched a pretty decent race record with 29 starts, 4 wins, 5 seconds and 2 third place finishes. He was very quiet and friendly while the racetrack life bustled around us and his trainer stated that he is a good boy and easy to work with. He also reported that he thinks he may have a chip in his left front knee although it has not been xrayed. A lightly raced gelding by a son of hot sire Tapit (his son, Tapwrit, just won the 2017 Belmont Stakes), this beautiful, young, sound gelding is as sweet and friendly as they come. His trainer described him as super sound, mellow, a pleasure to work around and a dream to gallop. We loved his cute, dishy face and bright expression. We know that gray/roan horses typically garner a lot of enthusiasm and interest from our faithful followers, and we expect the same for this lovely, classy mare who oozed elegance. She was perfectly quiet and cooperative while standing up for her pictures and we couldn’t help but comment on her substantial heft: this is one big mare! Her huge neck and shoulder are proportional and her muscled hind end suggests a lot of power behind. Trippi (her sire, but it’s a good nickname for her!) has been a better than average racehorse and we think she can fall into the category of “warhorse”. We listed this gentle giant last year and he was retained for racing by his breeder/owner/trainer. He was wintered in Florida and returned to Finger Lakes this year where, three weeks ago, he broke his maiden and now, for certain, he is being retired from racing because they just don’t think winning that second race will be easy for him. He is adored by his connections and they can’t say enough nice things about him. He has a winning personality, loves his treats, loves people and is, in our opinion, an exciting prospect for sport. For such a big horse, he is wonderfully light on his feet and, indeed, is said to be very comfy to ride. References will be checked. We think he has grown a tad since his listing last summer and is pretty close to 17 hands now.

Super Nicky’s trainer couldn’t find enough good things to say about him.  She reports he is super sweet, easy to work around, with absolutely no vices.  She is confident that he will make his next owner very happy. This sweet boy is so deserving of a forever home where he will be treated like royalty.  Lucci the Lion was a $65,000 two year old, so someone saw quality in him at a young age.  He has raced in various tracks along the east coast and even has a win at Saratoga.  He has earned over $171,000 in his 57 starts with 5 firsts, 10 seconds, and 9 thirds.  His trainer is ready for him to retire happily into a new career. Lucci the Lion stood perfectly quiet for his photo shoot despite horses acting quite excitedly around him.  His trainer speaks minimal English, so it was difficult to get lots of details on him, but another trainer in the shed row reported that Lucci is a barn favorite.  His ankle was recently blistered so we will try to get a video at a later date.  Geldings surgeries are relatively cheap and easy and well worth the investment.  Finger Lakes Finest has a gelding incentive fund for Finger Lakes horses going to approved homes.

Stunning is a good word to describe Balac!  This dappled beauty is a real head turner and his handler said he is a love that is good to work around.  He is lightly raced with only 8 starts.  In his last start, Balac sustained a slab fracture to his knee.  This injury typically has a good prognosis for return to sport.  It is reported that he needs 3 months of stall rest before a rehab program to return to riding.  His trainer will release X-rays and veterinary assessment to serious parties.    Balac stood very quietly and seemed to enjoy soaking up the sun during his photo shoot.  His handler reports this is typical of his behavior and that he is a laid back guy, even while on stall rest. Gregg’s Beauty really is a beauty!  This gorgeous girl came to Finger Lakes this spring and won her first two starts here!  She has earned over $50,000 in her 22 starts with 3 firsts, 3 seconds, and 1 third. Unfortunately she recently fractured her splint bone, an injury that usually has a good prognosis.  Gregg’s Beauty has a great uphill build that should appeal to a rider looking for a mount for jumping.  Her handler reported she is good to work with.  She is by Ready’s Image, a son of More than Ready, from the Halo sire line, and whose dam is from Icecapade, Best Turn, and Majestic Light lines.
