Stunning big flashy blood bay, and a gorgeous mover. His trot is light and lofty with a lovely cadence and reach. We see serious potential for dressage, eventing or show hunters here.  Although he is currently running well – indeed he won the day before we took his photos – Nearly There’s owner knows it is time to move him on to a new career while he is still sound. Note that one hind leg was wrapped simply because he had a small scrape from the race the day before, but it did not affect his soundness at all. Silverado has been used this year as a race horse pony horse at the track (i.e. a horse who accompanies race horses to the track for morning exercise or racing, to keep them calm) but he did not like the commotion of people jumping around in his face and shouting, so he has recently spent more time in the pasture than working. His owner wants to make some room and knows he is happiest when he has a job. She has told us she got him from a boy scout camp program, so he is obviously kid friendly. But he is also a big powerful flashy mover with an amazing trot and we even think he could be a dressage horse! By Raffie’s Majesty, Maj has been his owner’s pet project since he was a yearling. A beautiful daughter of the great Holy Bull, who is known for producing horses who are good movers and jumpers with great temperaments. She has solid bodied well balanced conformation and a quiet friendly personality. She was described as a polite quiet ride with no vices. The trainer says she has old osselets in one ankle, but it has been x-rayed and there are no chips or other issues. She had just raced two days before her photo session, and was still feeling some effects of the race, but despite that in her jog she showed the potential for very nide flat kneed trot movement.  This lovely gray girl could go in many directions, from broodmare to show hunter, or your all around pleasure horse.

The solid bodied and impressive Monty has been a highly successful race horse; he is stakes placed and has earned over a quarter million dollars on various tracks. He showed speed as a two year old and he sold for $400,000 at the two year old sales. He has been on stall rest since sustaining a non-displaced sesamoid fracture last spring. His vet said that he would eventually heal and could race once again, but his connections choose not to take any chances with their special boy. On the day we saw him, he had every excuse to blow up after not being out of his stall and the blustery, gusty weather, but he stood quietly for his owner/handler. He is a solid beautifully conformed boy, has the lovely deep, colt neck and is described as being kind and nice to handle. This very cute and friendly gelding came off the walker for us to admire and cuddle him.  He was so mellow he already acted like a kid’s pony!  He stood quietly while all of the mud was washed off of him for his pictures, and all he wanted to do was  get close enough to the volunteers for scratches- even after he discovered there were no mints involved!  We admired his balanced build and clean legs, and he jogged quietly, and looks like a cute mover. Big, young, solid boned, sound, beautiful mover, and a bargain price!  Don’t hesitate to call – a horse with this much upper level eventing or H/J potential will not last long at any price. Torrey Park was a very friendly sensible boy for his photo session, and the owner of the layup farm where he had recently arrived from the track said he was fine to handle and has no vices.  He is lightly raced with only 11 starts, but after winning a couple earlier this year he has tailed off in a tougher level of competition, so it is time to move him on to a new career.  With his solid boned balanced build, strong shoulder and hind end, we see unlimited potential in many sport careers.  When he jogged, his movement was floating and effortless, with nice suspension. We also watched some race videos to get a better sense of his movement, and we observed a fluid gallop and a huge reaching extended trot full of suspension and lightness.  This is one amazing prospect – step up quickly and snap him up!  He is located at a farm less than two miles from the Finger Lakes Race Track, and he can be seen there by appointment – no drops ins.

This very pretty mare has a soft and lovely mink-like coat. This big fellow looks like one of the antique paintings of statuesque thoroughbreds but is endowed with a party-boy personality. A warhorse who is still running strong, his trainer tells us that Raffie has  already dabbled in jumpers and some dressage three years ago

This is one fancy, athletic girl — a great show hunter or eventing prospect! Badge’s trainer says she has tremendous endurance but lacks the speed to win. With her work ethic, this clean legged sound girl with only five starts wants a job. The flies were awful and she was still quiet and tried to stand very well for her photos. Her mane stood up like a punk rocker, but when this well put together mare livened up to trot out, it was evocative of Da Vinci’s Horse. We saw beautiful movement with suspension. It is hard to view a career path that a mare with this build could not handle. Her sire, Badge, has produced several horses who have gone on to be excellent jumpers excelling as eventers and hunter/jumpers.

Little and cute, this personable fellow is being billed as having no vices and a great potential kids horse by his trainer. His trainer really likes him, but slow and cute doesn’t pay the bills. We thought that he should not be over looked by people on the hunt for a

This happy-go-lucky fellow was so interested in the photographer and handler and so relaxed, it was hard to get him to stand up for his glamor shots. He just wanted to chill with the crowd. His rider said that he goes like that to the gate, but when its time to run he is actually all business and has won $131,000. It wasn’t hard to see him sauntering into the startbox but being game enough to go cross country. He has a cute heart shaped star on his forehead and is described by his trainer as a “big goofball” and having no vices.

Girls don’t come much more ladylike than this well behaved sweetie. With a nice overall balance and a spring to her step, her lovely manners just fill out the rest of the package. Despite being in race training, Isabella is a solidly built mare with a nice neck who is still hanging onto her dapples despite the beginnings of a winter coat. Her owner wants her to go to a home where she can continue to be loved on and cared for. She runs best in the mud where her strength and solid feet give her an advantage and that seems to hint at eventer to us, and she has nice enough movement to appeal to those looking for a show hunter, but this pretty lady would probably be happy to go in any direction.

A son of Grand Slam, who is known for producing horses with great minds, great work ethics, and jumping talent. He is a recent acquisition for his current trainer,  but this fellow is not running fast enough to keep over the winter. The trainer groomed him loose in his stall and Hit the Cycle just stood there soaking the attention up. We were impressed as this rangy fellow moved out into the sun at how substantial he actually is. It is easy to picture that once Hit the Cycle is let down and fattened up, that this fellow with a nice balanced build, deep shoulder, and good movement would be very solid and masculine looking. His trainer says he has no vices and just wants to be a pet. This one is a diamond in the rough, and we think whoever steps up for hiim will be richly rewarded. This big, pretty, dappled gray sweetheart is very well bred — she’s a daughter of Holy Bull, out of a mare by Red Ransom, a son of Roberto.  Her trainer says she is so quiet and mellow she just doesn’t want to run fast.  She is lightly raced, and he described her as sound, easy to be around, nice to ride, good to bathe and clip, with no vices. She was indeed mellow for her photo session and jog video, and showed good movement and stride.  She might just want to be a show hunter, like other Holy Bull offspring.  People we know who have horses by Holy Bull rave about what great minds and temperaments they have, and many have excellent jumping talent and are very nice movers. This filly just exudes quality!

There is one appropriate phrase to apply to this guy: Drop Dead Gorgeous! Wow, were we ever impressed when this guy walked out for his photo shoot. He has incredible potential as an eventer or field hunter, but he could surely adapt to about any discipline. His trainer states that he has an issue in his right knee upper joint and she is unwilling to continue racing him, recognizing that horses this beautiful are shoe-ins for a successful showing career. His almost black shiny coat glistens with good health, and he loved being the center of attention.Trainer says he is a nice sweet quiet boy who is sound with no vices and is up to date on everything. A beautiful, solid bodied, well balanced stunner — he looks like an elegant show horse. His long-time handler, who also gallops, describes him as “one of the soundest horses” she has ever worked with. He was alert, inquisitive, friendly and well behaved for his photo session and jog video. We couldn’t stop admiring his beautiful shoulder, deep chest, elegant head, and lovely conformation. He showed very nice movement when jogged. Although Cody has run some good races this year, because of his outstanding potential for a new career in the H/J show ring or in eventing, they would like to retire him while he is completely sound. This lovely mare has been a hard knocking successful race horse, stakes placed with ten wins and over $160,000 in earnings. Her trainer says this lovely girl is out of conditions to race so she would like her to find a forever home. Her rider says she is a really nice  horse to ride and is a solid performer. She was very sweet and quiet when we took her information. The trainer mentioned she has been turned out with her stablemates Aivazovsky and Aracnaphobia and they all get along well together. Here is a gorgeous boy by Hook and Ladder with a great solid build – pedigree and conformation to excel in jumping disciplines. His trainer says he is a very quiet guy who is just too quiet to be a racehorse. He stopped running about a month ago and was recently gelded to get him settled for his new career. He has since started jogging and we were impressed with what a nice mover he is. We just couldn’t get over how solidly built this handsome young boy is!  The rainy weather the day ofhis photo session just didn’t show how pretty he is. So friendly and curious. The Trainer said he hadn’t raced in a month and has been in his stall, yet he was so quiet while he visited with us. The Trainer says this guy is so quiet his 2 y.o. son loves to pet him. He says River Griot is sound with no vices and could do just about anything. He could be a great field hunter or even a trail horse he’s that quiet. This time it’s a lovely mare by Hook and Ladder. This pretty lady has amazing dapples that just didn’t show up on the rainy day pictures. Nice topline, fancy spots on her white socks and a super mover describes her. She has a light lovely trot with the type of suspension that will get great scores in dressage. This almost black beauty is beautifully bred, by  AP Indy’s successful young son A P Warrior, out of a Storm Bird mare who is a Secretariat granddaughter. She is ready to move on to a new career because she is just too slow to be a successful race horse. We admired her very pretty good looks, well balanced conformation and sloping shoulder. Her trainer says she has cold tight legs and no soundness issues. She has the right size and spunk for polo, or for many sporting endeavors. With her pedigree she might also make a nice broodmare. It was stormy and windy when we took her photographs, and she had done nothing but hand walk for a while, so her energy level was very high (hence the lip chain). Under these bad weather conditions we could not get a video, but we will try to get one on another track visit.

If it was the day for much loved pets, this guy certainly falls in that category! Lamster is a very handsome boy and for those people who are suckers for plain bays (raises hand), he’s got enough presence and flash to be stunning under tack. Lamster has had quite an impressive race record with earnings well over $100,000 and a decent percentage for hitting the board. His handler on this day, who knows a thing or two about riding horses, says that he’s great to gallop and “knows his job”. She also says that he is sound, sound, sound and we saw tight, cold legs. Horses with a lot of turns around the oval who are sound and happy as eight year olds have a lot of years ahead of them. When we saw him he was quite up after not doing much after his last race two weeks ago.
