This big-bodied gelding has done his time on the race track and is ready to be let down and retire to a new career. He has been a good race horse– with 53 starts and career earnings of over $100,000. While he was very alert during his meet and greet, he was respectful of his handler, despite the excitement of the day. His trainer reports that he has not yet had the benefits of turnout time off the track, but he will likely settle right into a turnout routine in his next career. Reading Group had a splint removal procedure several years ago and returned to racing sound.  Because of this, his trainer would like to see him go somewhere with lower level event/jumper goals. This gorgeous son of Smarty Jones has the looks and personality that scream “Smart!” and had the volunteers swooning from the moment we saw his big, relaxed, reachy, walk out of his stall.  His balanced conformation and correct, uphill build make him a fabulous prospect for any discipline, but the movement observed by our volunteers today make us think he could be fabulous in the hunter ring. Again, a sunny day in February made his interview video much more exciting than our typical backside jog videos, but his trainer is sure that with some turnout, this kindhearted gem will flourish to make a perfect sporthorse. His trainer reports he is always a gentleman to handle and has a quiet temperament.  We observed his impeccable manners in his stall as he was brushed and doted on before his photo shoot. He has been in their care for quite a few years and report he has never had any soundness issues.  They feel he is suited for any upper level discipline.  His legs appeared clean and, wow, was he ever a nice mover!
