Appian, 2013 16.0h chestnut mare

This mare was a volunteer favorite, aptly summed up by one of volunteers as “so quiet, so sweet”. We were told that she is also a barn favorite, and rightfully so! We saw a nicely proportioned mare with a pretty, nicely arched neck, with solid bone who was deep through her body and had a well-sprung ribcage. She stood quietly and was friendly and relaxed as she daintily ate the peppermints we offered. We were told by her handler that she is “100 % sound”; but noticed that she has a large bump on her knee. It is not attractive, but her trainer told us that she has raced on it and that this blemish has never bothered her. Her trainer has also had x-rays done as a precaution and is perfectly willing to provide or forward those to interested parties for their veterinarian to examine. We were even more impressed when Appian was asked to jog. Even though she raced only two days prior to our visit, she remained very relaxed, and jogged soundly on a loose lead with fluid, easy movement. We could easily picture her trotting down the centerline of a dressage test! She has been a very good performer at Finger Lakes with over $89,000 in earnings in 29 starts with a an impressive 10-2-5 record. Her trainer also stated that she believes this well-bred mare holds appeal as a broodmare prospect. She is sired by Roman Ruler, a son of Fusaichi Pegasus out of a Silver Deputy mare. Appian’s dam is by Tale of the Cat. We’d classify her as very amateur-friendly! Will you find your way to your equestrian goals with this lovely, sweet, and quiet mare?
