Bert Stone, 2012 16h dark bay gelding

Bert is one of the sweetest cuddlebugs we have ever listed. While we were getting his information, he just put his head in our chest and stood there soaking up having his pretty head stroked.  The assistant trainer tells us that Bert is always as friendly and kind and well behaved and great to handle as he was on the cold winter’s day when we photographed him. Although he had just been walking for a month, he stood like a model, and jogged quietly. Bert, a son of Derby winner Grindstone out of a Bertrando mare, has been a good racehorse, and even won twice at Saratoga last summer. But he came up with a sore knee, and after his last race in early December the trainer had it x-rayed and there is a chip. Their vet consulted with Cornell, and was told that further racing was not advisable. But Bert could be a fine pleasure and trail mount, and with his quiet laid back demeanor,  very sweet personality, and almost black good looks and meltingly kind eye, we think he can make someone very happy. The assistant trainer will be happy to authorize their vet to share the x-rays and discuss Bert’s prognosis with a prospective good new home. The owner has not given Bert much time to find a good new home, so please step up to give this lover boy a chance!
