Big Ragu 2014, 15.2, bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester).
Ragu is a barn favorite that charms everyone he meets. The woman who ponies him to the track in the mornings and afternoons states he is “little but mighty” and has a “long, big stride”.  She states that he is  a very good boy and is always very quiet and sensible. He’s reported to have no vices and no injuries and is currently barefoot behind.  He has an uphill build, with a nice topline, and the elegant physique of a show hunter.  Ragu wanted to be a bit playful during his jog, but remained quiet and respectful, and he showed very good balanced movement, with good engagement from behind and reach from the shoulders. We saw him only 4 days after a race, and he showed no post-race stiffness or other ill-effects. Big Ragu has 28 starts, with 3 wins and ten additional in the money finishes, so he has been a useful racehorse.  But with his recent win, he must now face tougher conditions, so his trainer thinks it is a good time to let him move on to a new career, where his prospects are unlimited.
Big Ragu sold for $150,000 as a two year old, and he is by Drosselmeyer, who is by Distorted Humor. His dam is by Bernardini, an A. P Indy son  whose progeny are sought after by eventers and dressage riders.
