Blue Cherokee, 2010, 16h bay gelding

A barn and volunteer favorite! This handsome fella was listed by us almost two years ago and, when he didn’t sell, he was retained for racing with his current connections. His handler had nothing but superlatives for Cherokee and stressed that he, of all the horses she has ever had, would be the one she would keep if she could. He’s had an impressive career with 9 wins, 6 seconds and 8 thirds out of 42 lifetime starts. At age 8, he is ready to be retired from racing although he has many good years for another discipline. As a sprinter, he either has to ship to other tracks, such as Charlestown, or catch the sprint races at Finger Lakes which are more plentiful at the start of the meet. His connections are ready to call it a day. He does have some old, set osselets that are cold and tight and don’t affect his soundness. We admired his solid good looks with a strong engine and beautiful shoulder. He has a been-there-done-that demeanor and is described as a smart horse with a good brain and friendly personality. He is by Kafwain (Cherokee Run) out of a Victory Gallop mare. Cherokee stood quietly in the road on a very chilly blustery day on a loose lead. It had dropped over 40 degrees in the past two days, which had most horses feeling quite exuberant!
