Carla’s Express, 2008 16.3h dark bay mare: retained by owner

Everything about this stunning bid mare is a WOW — conformation, beauty, movement, soundness, temperament, intelligence, athleticism. One of our premier offerings of the entire season, in the opinion of the volunteers who did her meet and greet.  We think there is upper level eventing potential or A circuit hunter potential here, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see her excel at upper level dressage as well. We admired her solid bodied and very well balanced conformation, great shoulder, strong hind end, and clean legs. She has a very pretty refined head, with an adorable little snip on her otherwise black face.  When she jogged for her video, we saw suspension, cadence, strong push from behind, loft, a big stride… all the things one looks for in a beautiful mover.  She had worked out just the day before, and showed none of the stiffness that some horses do after a speed work or race. The assistant trainer says she is a very nice mare with no vices and good to gallop. He says she can be a bit ticklish when being groomed.  She is ready to move on to a new career because she has developed a bleeding problem while racing that is making her less competitive — but pulmonary bleeding is rarely an issue in other disciplines,, especially when horses are in an environment where they get good turnout. But she still has 11 wins and over 50% in the money finishes in her successful career, with over $111,000 in earnings. Her pedigree is excellent for sport and jumping. Her sire, Western Expression, is a son of Gone West who has Majestic Light, Buckpasser and Secretariat close up in his pedigree.  Herr dam is by Montbrook, which brings in another line to Buckpasser. We know several people who have successfully transitioned Western Expression and Montbrook offspring to eventing or the hunter/jumper ring.
