Do you want a really pretty horse with a great personality? if so, then Clear Surprise, who is affectionately known as “Perry Platypus,” is the horse for you! His owner/trainer kept raving about what a “cool horse” he is — she says he is a friendly “talker,” always nickering and whinnying for attention and treats. She says he never does anything wrong, she has let her young kids bring him in from turn out over the winter, and that he gets along well with other horses in addition to being loved by all the people who get to know him. They claimed him from another barn at the end of the meet last fall, but after enjoying winter turn out with them he seems to have lost interest in racing this year, and she doesn’t think she should keep him for another winter to try to bring him back to the races. But that decision is your gain, because this cute, solid bodied, almost black beauty is a great prospect for any new discipline. She says he is very sound with no vices, and his legs are clean. She says that in the summer, before he starts growing in his winter coat, he looks completely black. Clear Surprise is a nice balanced mover — the video is blurry because it was taken from the trainer’s phone and texted to the phone of one of our volunteers. But we also watched videos of his winning races to further assess his movement, and we observed balanced fluid movement at the gallop and trot. He was 4 wins and 7 in the money finishes in 18 starts, so he obviously has heart, and there’s not much wear and tear on his legs. He has an outstanding sport/jumping pedigree. He is by Giant Surprise, who is a son of Giant’s Causeway out of an AP Indy mare. His dam is by Crytoclearance, a son of Fappiano out of a Hoist the Flag mare, and her dam is a Danzig granddaughter.
