This flashy guy won our volunteers’ hearts with his chrome and compact solid build, and he really sealed the deal  as a volunteer favorite when we saw his lovely movement and heard his regular exercise rider enthuse about how great he is to ride.  His rider says he is “like a smooth sports car” under saddle, with impulsion and responsiveness, but never any nonsense.  She says he is unflappable, with a “been there done that” attitude. She raved about his prospects as a show hunter or dressage or event horse, and we agree. Commersant was a friendly and laid back guy for his photo session, and trotted out for his video on a loose long lead.  He showed off lovely balanced and light movement, with good engagement from behind with suspension and a flat kneed reach.  We certainly thought he could excel in the show hunter ring, or in any discipline you want to do with him.  His trainer said he is very sound, but he is ready to move on to a new career because in the last couple of years he has slowed down on the track. We were also told that Commersant has spent time on his owner’s farm and has turned out well with other horses.
