As he walked out of his barn, we first noticed his unusual facial markings/kiss spot. Dettifoss has been a useful racehorse, having started his career on the NYRA circuit and breaking his maiden for special weight at Belmont. In his first year of racing he earned over $100,000, but, since then, his form has changed and his owner/trainer recognizes that his heart isn’t in the racing life any longer. Dettifoss is described as a good natured, sweet horse who is easy to work with. We saw a very quiet and gentle horse with a pretty head and kind eye. He has old osselets that are cold and tight and do not affect his soundness. He is by Desert Party out of a Saint Ballado (Halo) mare, a very good sporting pedigree. We think this handsome boy will be a suitable partner in just about any discipline.
