Eucalyptus 2012 17 h dk bay gelding

We listed this volunteer favorite last year and he was subsequently retained for racing. This time he really is retiring from racing and what a special offering he is. Eucalyptus is adored by his handler and she will be choosy about who gets to take him home. As observed last year during his interview, this big sweetheart has a heart of gold, craves attention and drew one of our volunteers into a hug with his neck and head! Eucalyptus was a $350,000 yearling purchase and his owner’s certainly had high hopes for him, with his stellar breeding (by Arch out of a Holy Bull mare) and solid conformation. He started his racing career as a 4 year old where he won his debut in a Maiden Special Weight heat at Belmont on the NYRA circuit. He prefers the synthetic track surface at Presque Isle, and, while he has had one win this year, his form has definitely tapered down. Eucalyptus has osselets in both front ankles which are cold and set, and he is sound. His handler reports that he is quiet and a classy gent in every aspect of his life on the track and is so uncomplicated that he doesn’t need a track pony while in the post parade before races. If temperament is a primary criterion for your choice of a new partner, don’t overlook this exceptionally sweet guy. Throw in his solid good looks to the mix and you have a winner! His contact person will require references which will be verified.
