Romeo sure did capture our hearts! We were impressed with his elegance, intelligence, presence, and big strong boned build. There is an obvious bond between Romeo and his trainer. He jogged Romeo on a loose lead, and Romeo stopped when he stopped, immediately started trotting when the trainer said go, and was very focused on the trainer. And Romeo was rewarded with an affectionate pat. The way that Romeo focused on his trainer, and so politely and immediately did everything he asked, suggests that this is a very smart and well handled horse, who will give his all to a new person in a new discipline if you are consistent and kind with him. The trainer says that Romeo is sound and just a great horse, wonderful to handle and work with, full of stamina in long gallops. He says that when Romeo recently came back to him from another trainer on the mid-Atlantic Delaware/PA circuit, Romeo was underweight and stall walked — something the horse never did when he was last with the current trainer in Gulfstream Park in Florida a couple of years ago. Romeo also had white line disease in his left hind foot, but it is now cured, and there is just a small section of hoof wall yet to grow out. Romeo showed good movement for his jog video, even, balanced, flat kneed. This handsome big guy has great potential for any new discipline… jumping, eventing, hunters, hunter paces, fox hunting! His has a turf oriented pedigree, by Shakespeare, from the Theatrical/Nureyev sire line. Dixieland Band and Secretariat are prominent names on his dam’s side. Romeo is offered at a very enticing bargain price for such a nice horse because his trainer feels he is done racing, deserves a new career, and the trainer has new horses coming in and needs the stall. So better act fast to scoop up this horse — everyone says they want big, handsome, nice moving, sound geldings at a bargain price, and here he is!
