Katy Drama, 2012 15.2+ chestnut mare

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY).  This pretty girl was very friendly, especially with any volunteers holding peppermints! We were immediately struck by her very unique coloring (liver chestnut with a lovely copper glow) and markings (she’s peppered with what one volunteer knows as ‘bird catcher spots’, white flecks speckling her coat). She’s described as a good girl to work around. We liked her compact, balanced build, and powerful hindquarters and observed straight and well-formed legs with good bone. Her trainer told us that she has previously had a shoulder issue, and doesn’t run well in heavy going. But we did not observe any problems or unsoundness. She was a tad ‘fresh’ for her video but we saw cute movement with a springy jog. This is one of those times when you research a horse after you’ve see them in person and say, Wow! Because this unassuming little mare has a VERY impressive backstory! Sold at auction as a $115,000 two-year old, she fulfilled her early promise with 50 lifetime starts, racing at tracks all over the country, and winning more than $243,500 with a record of 8-12-10, hitting on the boards a very impressive 60% of the time. She’s meets our definition of a war horse and has definitely paid her dues, racing very consistently without ever having much downtime until earlier this year. This is a testimony to her durability, positive attitude and work ethic. But wait, there’s more! She is by Tale of the Cat (Storm Cat/ Terlingua/ Secretariat) and out of a mare by the highly coveted sport sire Maria’s Mon, noted for producing offspring who are kind, smart and having great movement and jumping ability. We continue to like her more and more! And so will you. This mare is a hard worker who would relish getting a new job. So if you are shopping for a lovely little mare with great sport potential and no drama, who has seen it all and will get right to business, this might be your girl!
