Kitstrickortreat, 2009 16.3 chestnut gelding with chrome: retained for racing

“Kit”  left us saying “wow” — this big, flashy, sound, lightly raced horse is a fabulous mover, with suspension, balance, and that floaty reach to his trot that will turn heads in the dressage phase of evening, or in the show ring. Kit did not race until he was four, and he has had only 12 races, yet to win.  If he does not win before the year is out, he will be ineligible to race as a 7 year old maiden.  But that will be the sporting world’s gain, since we see upper level potential is this big, uphill horse with a great shoulder and light beautiful movement with suspension. Kit’s trainer says he is sound and clean legged, and we certainly observed clean legs. His sport potential is underscored by his pedigree. He is by Readthefootnotes. from the Smoke Glacken/Two Punch sire line.  The trainer reports that Kit does occasionally bite in his stall, and can kick out when girthed up, so he needs an experienced handler. In our experience, these issues are often greatly alleviated when a horse comes out of the confined stressful track environment and gets turn out; ulcer treatment also often eradicates such symptoms. While Kit may not be the horse for people looking for a cuddly pet, he should be on the “must see” list for anyone looking for a serious top level Hunter/jumper, eventing, or dressage prospect.
The trainer tells us that Kit will race later this week, and if he wins, the owners might decide to keep him for racing next year. But if he does not win, he will definitely need to find a new career.
