Latika Love, 2008 16.3h bay mare

Classic thoroughbred beauty, elegance, and athleticism all come together in the gorgeous Latika Love.  On a day when our volunteers saw many horses who are very nice movers, this gorgeous mare took our top prize for the loveliest mover of the group! When she trotted for her jog video she floated over the ground with a light rhythmical trot with balanced reach.  Her handler, the assistant trainer, confirmed that Latika is a very mellow good mare, great to handle, without vices.  Latika has been a good consistent race horse, with 16 wins and 42 in the money finishes in 75 starts, racking up over $235,000 in earnings. But this year, although she has 5 top three finishes, the wins have been harder to earn. She is a synthetic track specialist, with most of her wins coming at Presque Isle, Woodbine, and Arlington. Since the Presque Isle racing season is coming to an end, the trainer realizes it is time to let Latika Love move on from the track to a new career.  Latika Love had a minor suspensory injury over two years ago, and it was fully and properly rehabbed, and she returned to race well with no issues whatsoever. The assistant trainer says she has been very sound, and we saw clean legs — and that gorgeous movement!  She has no limitations for a new career.  With her looks and movement we think she could excel as a show hunter, but she certainly has the size, balance, heart, and athletic ability for eventing.  She has an excellent pedigree for sport/jumping disciplines.  Her sire is Strong Contender, who is by Maria’s Mon out of a Dynaformer mare.  We know lots of people who have horses by Maria’s Mon or his sons and daughters who rave about their movement, temperament, and jumping ability. Latika Love’s dam is by Conquistador Cielo out of a mare from Northern Dancer and Damascus lines.
Do not overlook this mare just because she is older — she is a gem and she has many more good years to give to a new career.  Take her to the 2019 RRP and be a leading contender to win their special award for the highest placing war horse!
