Little Mary Ellen, 2012, 15.3 Bay Mare

A volunteer favorite for the day!  This $55,000 yearling has been a good racemare earning over $50,000 in her 30 starts.  She had two wins this year but was not as successful in the next condition level, so her trainer decided to give her a break from racing.  She has been hanging out at the farm, which should help ease her transition to post track life.  She is used to daily turnout in pastures and in the indoor arena.  She was very polite and quiet during our photo shoot despite a storm moving in.  Her owner/trainer reported this was her typical demeanor-kind, intelligent, and classy.  He reports she is retiring totally sound and he believes she should have unlimited potential in her next career.  He reports she is a strong turf horse and feels she would be best suited for an eventing career, but surely she could successfully go in many different directions.  He also reports she has no stall vices. We had a hard time getting a jog video because the trainer has some physical ailments, but we did take get to see her at liberty in the indoor arena where she displayed very nice movement with nice suspension and reach from the shoulder (she also enjoyed a few rolls and bucks in the sand).  This is a bargain price for an athletic, well bred mare with so much potential!
She is a well bred daughter of Indygo Shiner, a son of AP Indy who is known for offspring with great brains and jumping ability.  Her dam has excellent sport/jumping bloodlines. She is by top sire Elusive Quality, a son of Gone West, and out of a mare by Polish Numbers, from Danzig and Buckpasser lines.  There is also broodmare potential here, since her female family has strong black type. Little Mary Ellen’s second is a stakes winner and graded stakes placed; her third dam is a multiple stakes producer including of graded stakes winners. This is the direct female family of champion Lord Avie.  She is another great prospect for RRP 2018!
