Mer Babe, 1999 17+ h gray mare

Mer Babe has been a broodmare for many years on the farm near the Finger Lakes Racetrack where she resides and, in that time, she has endeared herself to her owners, who are also her breeders. Wow! We haven’t seen many TBs as big as she is. A solid 17+ h gal, with a broodie belly, she has substantial size, good bone and much as we love our TBs, she could be an incredible prospect for sporthorse breeders of the warmblood persuasion. She sports a fantastic sporthorse pedigree for soundness and stamina, without Mr. Prospector or Storm Cat, a rarity in today’s thoroughbreds. Her sire is Cam a Rhett, by Tri Jet out of champion Susan’s Girl, by Quadrangle… the best of the famous breeder FW Hooper’s program. She has a son, Ynot Tony, who is reported to be a good jumper.  She has had several foals, who all have good bone and correct conformation (we saw one of her daughters, now in foal herself, in the paddock). But, her owners feel she has not produced enough good racehorses to continue in their race oriented breeding program, so they would like to see her go to a sport horse breeding situation. Mer Babe is an easy keeper, can go barefoot, and loves pasture living. She is reported to be an easy foaler and a good dam. She should have a few more good foaling years ahead of her. Although she has not been ridden in several years, she could also be brought back to fitness for pleasure or trail riding.  When we saw her,she was hollering for her pasture mates, with whom she has been on 24/7 turnout during nice weather and was brought in for her photo shoot. She wasn’t entirely happy about the situation but was a gem for her interview, posing majestically. We only videoed her at the walk, because she is not fit, and her handler was not feeling well, and we did not know how she would react with her pasture buddies running alongside.
