Handsome handsome handsome! New York Tough or “Toughie” as he is lovingly called has been a successful race horse earning over $195,000 in 64 starts with a whopping 21 firsts, 14 seconds, and 9 thirds-WOW! That alone shows what a hardworking horse with a big heart he is! Toughie is described as incredibly sweet and quiet-possibly the sweetest horse his trainer has ever worked with, which is a wonderful endorsement! His trainer feels he would be a good prospect for someone looking to get into the world of OTTBs for the first time (but still has horse experience) or for a junior/amateur rider working with a trainer. Toughie popped a splint early in 2017 and was sent to a hunter/jumper barn in the Rochester, NY area to rest and rehab. He is now reported to be totally healed and sound and without any limitations. Although he could be brought back to race, his owner has decided they would like to see him move on to a second career. He has been lightly started under saddle (but is still RRP 2018 eligible) in an indoor arena. The rider at the stable reports he was quiet to ride, not spooky, and just an overall “good boy”. They report he has excellent manners and is easy to clip, groom, and handle on the ground. He stood quietly for clipping. Toughie is very loved by his owner and references will be required to ensure he goes to a good home. He is by Good and Tough out of a Valid Expectations mare.
