The memo on this black beauty says that to see her is to love her — our volunteers were certainly smitten. We watched her stand politely to be groomed and admired her beautiful feminine head and kind eye, as her handler emphasized what a well behaved and sweet filly she is, with no vices or issues. Her velvet black coat shone in the sun, and she eagerly but politely accepted our peppermints. She has a strong shoulder and compact solid build. Her legs are clean and tight, and her handler said she is very sound — she just hasn’t run fast enough. After just 4 starts, it is obvious that she did not get the memo about the racing game — although she won her first start as a two year old on a synthetic track, she has no liking for the Finger Lakes dirt. Although the conditions for jogging her were hardly ideal — the road outside her barn was very uneven and had a big pothole recently filled in with loose stones — she showed nice movement that made us think she could be a lovely hunter. She has has an excellent sport horse pedigree. Her sire is Teuflesberg, who is by Johannesburg out of a Devil’s Bag mare. These Hennessey/Halo bloodlines are popular in jumping/eventing disciplines — we know several people who seek out Johannesburg descendants for their brains and talent. Her dam is by Rizzi, out of a mare from Best Turn/Turn-to lines.
