Royal Burgh, 2012 16.3+h bay gelding

Just one look at this handsome big horse and we knew he had to be very well bred — and we were right!  He is a son of Derby winner Street Sense, out of a stakes winning mare, and he was a $150,000 yearling who started his career in the barn of leading trainer Todd Pletcher running in graded stakes races. He was claimed out of a race at Saratoga, and at the end of his three year old year was given some time off. But since returning to the races, his heart just isn’t in it anymore, so it is time to let him find a new career where he class, size, good looks, and good movement will stand out.  He came to his current trainer at Finger lakes in mid-April, and he has raced three times for her.  She says he is good to handle; she reported that he sometimes mildly cribs at meal time, but she hasn’t had to put a cribbing collar on him, and she thinks that off the track, in an environment where he gets turn out, he probably won’t crib at all.  She says that he came to her with a small amount of fluid on his left front knee, that it has been there for a while, but that it is never warm, and causes him no issues, and that he has been sound to race and feels fine after he races. We felt it ourselves, and it was cold and he did not flinch at all from palpation and flexed fine.  He jogged politely on a loose lead, and showed very nice movement, with balanced lightness and suspension and good engagement form behind.  We think Royal Burgh is an excellent prospect for dressage, and lower level jumping.  He is quite the bargain for such a big, good looking well bread and nice moving horse, so please give him chance at a great new life.
