Sailen Ray J, 2009 16.2h+ bay gelding

“Ray” had us admiring him when we first saw him in the stall, with his distinctive white blaze with its cross shape, and his friendly, treat- seeking personality. Then his trainer brought Ray out, and we liked him even more — although furry with a growing in winter coat, we could see what a big, solid boned guy Ray is, with an uphill build and a strong shoulder that suggests jumping ability, and a very kind, intelligent eye. Ray’s trainer says he is a playful, affectionate horse with a great work ethic and a lot of “go,” who is a long time barn favorite, sound and with no vices.  We were drawn in by Ray’s kind and intelligent eye, and his distinctive markings. The trainer says that Ray prefers running on the turf, and the hard dirt track at Finger Lakes is no longer suiting him. So, since he is now less competitive, it is time to find him a great new non-racing home where his good looks and athleticism will allow him to excel in a new career. For his jog video Ray showed off lofty, springy movement that made us think dressage or eventing will be his forte.  He is by Alaskan Frost, a son of Copelan, who is by Tri Jet out of the great Susan’s Girl.
