Sugar Pi Squared, 2013, 16h, dark bay mare

Sugar Pi Squared is a very cleverly named daughter of Einstein out of Sugar Dame, by Ghostzapper. She has been running well this year, with 3 wins in 9 starts, including in her most recent race in mid-September. But with this success comes the reality that there will be fewer races that she is eligible to run in, since from now until the end of the racing season at Finger Lakes the majority of races offered will be for horses who have not won as often as she has. So her trainer is looking to let her move on to a new career where her heart and athleticism will bring her new successes. She is indeed a SugarPie — her groom describes her as sweet, sound, very quiet and eager to please. And indeed, we saw a remarkably laid-back horse pose perfectly for the camera despite horses galloping behind her on the training track, and  she jogged pleasantly while impressing us with her fluid and flat kneed toe pointing trot, although she was on very uneven ground full of potholes. Sugar Pi has an excellent sport horse pedigree. Her sire Einstein is by Derby winner Spend a Buck, a grandson of Buckpasser and Speak John.  Her dam sire The great Ghostzapper, is by Awesome Again, from the Deputy Minister line, out of a mare by Relaunch from the In Reality line. We think that whoever makes this sweet pretty mare their sugar pie will be lucky indeed!
