What a gorgeous, flashy athletic horse with unlimited potential for eventing, dressage, or other sport disciplines. And he still has room to grow and fill out his frame and balance out — he currently shows some typical baby “butt high” build, which usually evens out as a horse matures. His trainer says he is good to work with, and has no vices, but does not have enough higher class racing potential for his owner to want to invest in keeping him over the winter and then putting him back in race training. He is lightly raced, with only 8 starts, none as a two year old, and he is described as very sound. He is also very well bred, selling for $145,000 as a weanling. He is by the excellent young sire Henny Hughes, out of a Marquetry mare whose dam sire is Spectacular Bid. The Marquetry lines are well known for producing good minded, good moving horses who can jump. Because it was windy, and he was cranked up to race the next day, we did not get to see Teahupoo really stride out in his jog, but we did see good suspension and athleticism.
