Affectionately known as Gracie, this very special girl must find a very special person. Gracie is lightly raced, beautifully and solidly built, pretty, and a sweet horse when she finds a person she can trust. And oh wow, can she ever move — one of the nicest movers we have listed this year. When she trotted she just floated, with great engagement from behind, reach from the shoulders, and a big flat kneed toe pointing stride. This was with only one shoe on, feet badly in need of a trim, and on a hard packed rocky driveway. Just imagine how well she will move when her feet are done and she is on good footing! Gracie’s trainer thinks she had an abusive experience with a whip earlier in her life, because she is guarded and defensive until she realizes she can trust a person, and she is apprehensive of the race environment and jockeys brandishing whips. For this reason, the trainer will be very careful and choosy about who is lucky enough to get Gracie. It must be a very experienced horse person with patience and understanding. No first time horse owners or first time OTTB owners, please. Gracie’s current trainer, who also rides her, has been working with her for several months, and has gotten her to where she is very good to handle and work with. She says Gracie is a lovely floating forward ride, who enjoys going but never pulls or acts up. She says Gracie is very sound, and very intelligent. We watched Gracie get groomed for her photo session, and she was patiently tolerant of having burdocks pulled out of her forelock and tail, and seemed to love getting curried and brushed. She was friendly and inquisitive with our volunteer, mooching mints. Gracie is submissive in turn out, and gets along well with the dominant mare she is currently out with. We think that Gracie will make a spectacular show hunter or dressage horse, and will richly reward the right person.
