Tony D., 2010 17h dark bay gelding

The big and gorgeous Tony D sold for $400,000 as a yearling — a testament to his regal pedigree and great conformation and movement. A full brother to two graded stakes winners, he never lived up to his pedigree or siblings’ success on the track, managing only one win in 23 starts.  But that is the sport horse worlds’ gain, because we are confident that Tony D will find his true calling as an eventer or hunter/jumper.  Tony D has a well balanced solid boned build with a great strong sloping shoulder.  He is so well balanced that we did not realize how big he is until we stood next to his shoulder and withers, and he towered over our 5’5″ volunteer. We admired his kind and intelligent eye and beautiful head.  He showed very nice movement, light with excellent suspension.  His trainer says he is sound and has always been bute free. She says he has a small old splint and old minor ankle rounding.  She described him as a horse who loves to work, and can be full of himself for a couple of days after a race… although we saw him just a few days after a race and he behaved like a gentleman.  Tony D has an exceptional sport pedigree. He is by Touch Gold, from the Deputy Minister sire line, and his graded stakes winning dam is by Alleged, a son of Hoist the Flag, which is the Ribot line.
