Dublin Lass, 2013 16.1h+, Chestnut Filly

This adorable young lady has the good fortune to be in one of the finest shedrows on the Finger Lakes back side. Even on a dismal fall day, her coat gleaned of good grooming and her structure is filled out with signs of excellent care. Her sweet personality and kind eye made her meet and greet session with our volunteers a pleasure. She is reported to have no vices and is good to work around in her stall. She has a recent sesamoid fracture that the vet has deemed minor and the prognosis is excellent for any discipline. Walk only video available due to the injury– she is progressing well under veterinary care and instructions. Xrays are available to qualified buyers and buyers would be welcome to discuss the injury with the vet overseeing her care.   Dublin Lass is in a barn that prefers to follow their horses’ second careers and enjoys updates (especially with pictures included).  References will be required.

Unsanctioned, aka “Nugget”, 2014, 15h Chestnut Gelding

This little “nugget” as he is called by his connections is the real deal, in a smaller package. He is well built with a strong, correct, uphill conformation. He is reported to be clean legged and sound with no vices (which is exactly what we saw). His handler reports that he is easy to work around and goes well under tack. He has started race training well, but shows no aptitude for the track. He is a groom favorite, which is always a good endorsement. Despite his young age, he stood perfectly still and was totally chill on this brisk, rainy day. He had nice reach and movement for his jog video which had the volunteers oohing at what an adorable boy he is! This clean slate seems to be one of the bargains of the meet and we would suggest calling quickly!

Red Tassel, 2011, 16.1, Dark Bay Gelding

Our volunteers are in love!  Looking for the perfect mix of temperament, looks, personality and athleticism? Look no further. This classy fellow checks all the boxes for sporthorse prospects! This gorgeously built boy is a barn favorite and only the best of homes will do.  His trainer and grooms had nothing but wonderful things to say about him.  We thought he was quite handsome to look at…and then we saw him jog.  WOW!  Red Tassel gets our “fabulous mover of the day” award.  On this brisk, rainy day, he stood and jogged very politely for his trainer but also showed tremendous reach at the shoulder –a ground covering gait that will be sure to turn heads in any discipline! We suggest calling quickly on Red Tassel as his qualities are highly coveted amongst most shoppers.  He has no vices.

Hellcat, 2010, 16h+ Dark Bay mare: sold for racing

Don’t let her name fool you– there is not an ounce of hellion in this beautiful young mare. This clean legged, sound and well balanced mare has been a good race horse, with 20 in the money finishes out of her 44 starts, earning over $92,000. She is slowing down a bit this year so her trainer would like to retire her while she is still sound and clean legged. That will be the gain of someone looking for an athlete who can excel in many new careers! She has balanced conformation, clean legs, and her solid body will take up plenty of leg but her feminine head will draw the crowd’s attention in the show ring. Her dark coat is dappled with good health, although the cloudy day did not show them off. Hellcat was friendly, cuddled with her trainer, and was beautifully behaved for her photo session. Her trainer states that she settles right in at the farm and enjoys the laid back atmosphere as opposed to the hectic environment of the track. She has no vices, a beautiful flowing gait and is ready to start her new career!!  We were unable to get a new video today as she was entered to race, but she showed lovely movement when we listed her in the past and will get a new video when we are at the track next weekend.

Thirty Percent, 2012, 15.3 Bay Colt: retained by owner

Hubba hubba!  We admired Thirty Percent’s beautiful neck and overall build.  After 19 starts, he is showing his connections that his heart is not in the racing game.  He is being retired sound and clean legged. Thirty Percent is a nice mover who has no stall vices, but could benefit from a simple “brain surgery”  (that’s a gelding procedure). A gelding procedure is a simple and inexpensive way to make a fancy colt into a fancy, easier to live with gelding!  This very affectionate colt may need an experienced rider and handler.  What a stunning upper level prospect he will be!

Special Dinner 16.1h, 2010, Dark Bay Gelding

Our flashy boy of the day!  Special Dinner is a favorite of his trainer, who couldn’t find enough wonderful things to say about him.  Special Dinner is described as very intelligent with a strong work ethic.  His trainer, who is also his exercise rider, states he is excellent to ride, goes right to work without any funny business and is “all class”.  His trainer reports he has never had any soundness issues and is completely clean legged.  Between races he spends time at the farm and is used to being turned out.  He has no stable vices.  Special Dinner is sure to turn heads wherever he goes.  It is difficult to take videos at his farm due to the lack of straight paths, but he showed nice movmenet in both locations we videoed.  He has earned over $80,000 in his 35 career starts with 5 wins, 6 seconds, and 5 thirds.  We know he will be just as successful in his second career!  A good home is a must and references will be checked.

Sweet Birdie, 2012, 15.2 Dark Bay Filly

This gal is aptly named: she is oh so sweet, but she is not quite cut out to be a racehorse. Her connections suggest that she’d be an outstanding hunter/jumper mount and our volunteers agree– her floating trot with beautiful movement screamed athleticism! She is reportedly easy to ride with clean legs, no vices and sound. What more could you ask for?! Her handlers predict that she will be a horse who is easy to let down and restart because of her easy going, yet workmanlike demeanor around the barn and when she goes out to work on the track.  She was recently taken on an outing to a nearby farm to be tried and reportedly had excellent behavior (good brakes and no spooks) despite the new surroundings.

Johnnie O, 2008, 16h, Chestnut Mare

It takes a special thoroughbred to live in the hustle and bustle environment of the race track and maintain a steadfast, quiet, low key personality, but the adorable miss Johnnie O has just that! She is said to be an easy ride– her connections report that she has the same laid back personality every day and could make an outstanding kids horse, even in a lesson program. Not many horses could go from the track to that type of job, but our volunteers agreed: this gal seemed to have a perfect personality. She is easy to work around, sound, clean legged with no vices and this girl exudes class. Her exercise rider states she is “the most intelligent horse she has ever ridden”.  Johnnie O is reported to also enjoy swimming and caught on to swimming at the racetrack pool immediately.  Johnnie O has been with her connections for quite some time.  They are very attached to her and want to ensure she goes to only the best of homes, so references will be required and they would love updates! We thought she was an adorable mover who would make a great children’s hunter.   Johnnie O has a fantastic sport pedigree, and her sire Holy Ground is Barbaro’s half brother, out of the same mare.   Her sire is a grandson of Halo, and her dam is by Stage Door Johnny — a sire you rarely see so close up in a pedigree these days.

Keep Bustin, 2010, 16.1 Dark Bay Mare

Keep Bustin has been a very successful racemare earning over $329,00 in her 38 starts with 9 wins, 8 seconds, and 4 thirds at the Belmont and Saratoga tracks (allowance level) as well as Finger Lakes. She recently has been diagnosed with a knee chip which has been causing some unsoundness. Because of her success on the racetrack, her trainer would love to find her a broodmare home to hopefully pass on her racing talent, but reports she would also be sound for riding with some time off. He reports she is easy to work with, very sweet, and has no stable vices. She is otherwise clean legged and had never had any previous injuries. She is by Bustin Stones out of a High Yield mare. Her second dam is multiple stakes winner and Grade 1 placed Darby Shuffle, who ran second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile fillies. Darby Shuffle is a stakes producer.  The third dam is stakes placed and a multiple stakes producer, including a son who is a successful jump racing sire.

Kellster, 2009, 17.3, Dark Bay Mare

For everyone who insists they need a 17h horse to take up their long legs, here’s your girl. Despite her mammoth size, this girl is nicely conformed and light on her feet. Her trainer couldn’t find enough nice things to say about Kellster, who is a barn favorite. Her trainer states she is easy to live with and has no vices. We admired her correct, uphill build and intelligent expression. She has been a good racemare earning over $121,000 in her 33 starts with 7 wins, 4 seconds, and 9 thirds. She has some mild ankle rounding from her years on the track which obviously do not impact her judging by her fabulous movement she showed off today.
