HANGOUT, 2018 16.2h dark bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Wouldn’t you like to be able to hangout with this gorgeous black guy every day?!  Even on the wet and cloudy day that we photographed him, the dapples on his gleaming black coat were visible. We think this solid boned horse is one of the best eventing or jumper prospects we have listed this year — but he could do any discipline.  Hangout’s trainer says he’s very athletic, sound, has good feet, and has a playful clown personality — which we saw as he nibbled at the strings on her jacket and she tapped on his lip.  She says he trains in the morning like a stakes horse, but just doesn’t show interest in passing the leaders in the afternoon. She describes Hangout as a “happy” horse who’s strong to gallop, so an experienced rider looking for an upper level athlete would be best for him. She also says that he loves swimming in the track’s pool, and likes to go through any sort of water — ideal for the cross country course!  She reports that Hangout is good in turnout, and that the people who have had him on their farms the last couple of winters love him, and say he settles right down on the farm.  Hangout was a bit up for his jog video, showing his power, but also showing good hind end engagement with a light loft to his step.  He is by Upstart, who is a son of Flatter — both sires are known for getting horses with good brains, athleticism, and jumping ability. His dam is by Bernstein.

DUCK POND ROAD, 2017 15.3h bay gelding

Located on a farm very close to Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY

Sweet, has a great brain, levelheaded, kind, great to handle, very sound — as the owner/trainer told us all these attributes of Duck Pond Road we thought — wow, he is the horse that everyone wants, and he can go in any new direction you want!  We photographed Duck Pond Road at his owner/trainer’s farm — which is just a mile down the road from Finger Lakes Race Track — on a cold and rainy day right after he had been brought from the track to the farm. Like a duck takes to water, Ducky was loving the weather, and wanted to get back out to his pasture. His owner/trainer says Ducky is great in turn out and will happily stay out all day no matter the weather, and gets along well with other horses. The owner/trainer told us he thought Ducky would make a great trail horse, or could be a kid’s horse after professional retraining.  Duck Pond Road is adorable, very well put together, clean legged, and a very cute mover — we have videos both on uneven muddy ground on the farm, and on pavement at the track. The owner/trainer is downsizing, and Ducky has not won a race this year, so he would like to find him a new home and a new career. Duck Pond Road has 4 wins, 10 seconds, and 7 thirds in 48 starts, and he has never had any unsoundness issues — he has been a hickory racehorse! From when Duck Pond Road was a yearling coming two, and into the spring of his two-year-old year, he was at a farm to be started under saddle where one of our volunteers boards a horse. Our volunteer remembers him as cute, friendly, and an uncomplicated and willing horse for starting under saddle. Those initial traits are still what Ducky is today.  Duck Pond Road is by Soaring Empire, who is from Empire Maker, Unbridled, and AP Indy lines.   His dam Shangaloo is by Roaring Fever, and out of a mare whose offspring have been placed through past year’s FLF listings, and went on to successful careers in eventing, and as all-around trail horses.  If you are looking for a rock-solid, sweet and quiet, pretty, and sound horse who can go on to do any discipline you want, Ducky is your horse!

STORMY NEW YORK, 2017 15.2+h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Stormy has been with his owner/trainer for his entire racing career, and he is definitely a trainer and barn favorite.  She says he is a “sweetheart, that anyone can do anything with,” sound, friendly and lovely to handle.  Stormy has spent winters on his owner/trainer’s farm, and she says he is wonderful to handle on the farm and turns out well with other horses. Stormy has two wins in 26 starts, with 8 additional placings, so he has been a steady earner, but this year he hasn’t been as successful in his races, so his owner/trainer realizes it is time to let him move on to a new career — and he is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.  With his stocky build, powerful hind end, and smaller stature, we can see Stormy being very handy around the barrel patterns, but he could go in any direction you desire.  Stormy displayed good movement for his jog video, with good hind engagement and some loft and reach. He i by Stormy Atlantic, from the Norther Dancer line, and a sire that sport horse people seek out.  His dam is by Kitten’s Joy from the El Prado/Sadler’s Wells sire line, out of mare from the Rubiano/Fappiano line.  Kitten’s Joy offspring have excelled in dressage and eventing. The owner/trainer cares deeply about getting the best of homes for her horses, so be prepared to demonstrate to her that you are worthy and will cherish her beloved Stormy as much as she has.

SMART STORM, 2019 16.2h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

A trainer favorite, this big young gelding by Lookin at Lucky is described as “super sweet — loves my kids and they love him”, sound, and an all-around great boy.  His trainer has owned and trained him for a couple of years, and everyone in the barn loves him, and they wish they could keep him, but he just hasn’t shown enough racing ability to justify overwintering him and bringing him back to the races next year.  But their loss is your gain, since this horse has unlimited potential for any new discipline. The trainer reports that Smart Storm is great to ride and an exercise rider favorite, calm and well behaved when walking the shedrow or on the walking machine. “He’s going to make someone a really nice horse,” she says. As we photographed him, we admired his kid eye, and well balanced conformation with a strong sloping shoulder and strong hind end.  For his jog video he displayed good movement with nice engagement from behind.  Lookin at Lucky, a son of Smart Strike, has become a very popular sport horse sire, both for eventing and show hunters, known for offspring with good brains, kind temperaments, a good work ethic, and jumping ability.  Smart Storm’s dam is by Stormin Fever.  Smart Storm has one win in 25 starts, with ten placings, and he is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.

REGAL EMPIRE, 2019 15.3H BAY GELDING

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY Rochester)

Presenting one of the last of the Lemon Drop Kid offspring, Regal Empire is from the penultimate crop of this great stallion, who is a very popular sire in the sport horse world, known for good brained, durable, sound, athletic horses with a lot of heart and jumping ability. Reflecting his excellent breeding, Regal Empire sold for $90,000 as a weanling and $125,000 as a 2 year old — but he’s now available for a new non-racing career for a fraction of those lofty prices! Regal Empire was described to us as very friendly, great in turnout with other horses, good with dogs, sound and with great feet –which is not an attribute that can be said about a lot of thoroughbreds. He has minor filling in his ankles that has been there for his whole racing career and has never bothered him.    Our volunteers found him to be very sweet and friendly, and we enjoyed hanging out with him in front of his stall as he soaked up our attention. He was very quiet and well behaved for his jog video, and displayed lovely movement, light and even with some spring to the trot. Regal Empire never lived up to his pedigree on the track — he has 16 starts, and while he has picked up a lot of checks, he has yet to win. His pedigree for sport horse disciplines is outstanding. As we said, his sire Lemon Drop Kid is a coveted sport horse sire, by Kingmambo and from the same female family as AP Indy. Regal Empire’s dam is from Officer/Relaunch,  Quiet American/Fappiano,  Tri Jet, and Skip Trial/Damascus lines — all stout, sound lines that have produced many horses excelling in eventing, steeplechasing, and other jumping disciplines.

R BOY BODE, 2016 15.1+h chestnut gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

Bode was his trainer’s first racehorse when he started training three years ago, and he will always be a favorite near and dear to his heart — but he knows that it is now time to let his favorite horse move on to a new discipline. Bode was described to us as a very sweet boy with lots of personality who is good and straightforward to ride, sound with no vices. His trainer describes Bode as “little and fast,” with good acceleration, quick on his feet, and athletic. Sounds like he would make a perfect barrel horse!  He was on the muscle for his videos, so he couldn’t really show his stuff trotting out — he hadn’t been doing anything but walking the shedrow for a couple of weeks since his owner/trainer decided it was time to move him on from racing. We watched some videos of his races, and observed a fluid quick stride with flat kneed efficient action. R Boy Bode has had a successful racing career, with 7 wins in 47 starts and earnings over $172,000.  He is sired by Kantharos and his dam is by City Zip — good sprinting bloodlines.  We would love to cheer R Boy Bode on in the barrel pattern at the 2024 RRP — or in any discipline you want to pursue with him.

AFTER ALPHA, 2019 15.2h bay filly

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington, NY (near Rochester)

A barn favorite, After Alpha is reported to be a complete sweetheart, much loved by her owner and trainer.  She’s easy going and sweet to handle, reported as sound, and with great feet and no vices.  She can be a strong galloper on the track, and prefers a rider with soft hands. She displayed beautiful movement for her jog video, with great push from behind, and a light and lofty step that led us to think she could be a great dressage or eventing prospect for a smaller stature rider or kid working with a trainer. And her sire, Alpha, has produced some horses who are fantastic scopey and brave jumpers — our volunteers know of some succeeding at rated hunter shows and events.  With her smaller build and athleticism, After Alpha is also an excellent polo prospect.  After Alpha has won two of her 8 starts this year, but now that she has to face tougher competition, she’s not as successful, so her trainer knows it is best to let her find a new discipline. She is by Alpha, a sone of Bernardini from the AP Indy line.  Her dam is a granddaughter of Unridled’s Song and Bernardini.  The inbreeding to Bernardini is also a good sign of her potential for dressage and eventing, since he has sired many horses succeeding in those endeavors.

SMOOTH OPERATION, 2016 15.3h bay gelding

This stocky guy would smoothly fit in amongst a bunch of quarter horses.  In addition to his solid build, we admired his kind eye and alert intelligent look, and his quiet demeanor.  His handler attested to his great brain and quiet temperament — she described him as a classy and very well-behaved horse who’s very sound.  Smooth Operation was running well for his trainer up through last year, but this year he seems to have lost his interest in racing, so the trainer decided not to push him to do it anymore.  He has been hanging out and just going on the eurociser and walking machine for a couple of months. Despite this lower level of activity, he was very calm and perfectly behaved for his photo session and jog.  His handler said that is always how he is — quiet and respectful and even tempered.   He showed off a nice overtrack at the walk and a springy trot with good hind end engagement that had us thinking he would make a nice dressage horse or eventer, but he truly could be aimed at any new discipline you want. With his quiet temperament, you can also enjoy nice trail rides! He has 6 wins in 29 starts and $125,000 in earnings. He is by Dr Large, a son of A.P Indy.  His dam has ideal sport horse lines.  She is by You and I, a son of Kris S from the Roberto line. Her dam has Northern Baby close up in her pedigree — who is one of the all-time top sires of steeplechase horses, so good jumpers are in his blood for sure.  His dam line also brings in the Rahy/Blushing Groom/Halo sire line.  This horse has unlimited potential, and is offered for a bargain price.

BOBBY RIDE, 2020 16.1h bay gelding

BOBBY RIDE, 2020 16.1h bay gelding

Located at Finger Lakes Race Track, Farmington NY (near Rochester)

Our volunteer who does dressage was drooling over this lovely young guy’s potential for her discipline, and our show hunter volunteer was also quite taken with him.  Bobby Ride was with his current trainer last year and earlier this spring and ran very well, including in a stakes race, so the owners sent him to a tougher racing circuit, where he didn’t fare as well.  Bobby arrived back at Finger Lakes in late September, and the trainer had his vet give Bobby a thorough evaluation.  They found a small chip in the upper joint of the right knee. The vet thought it wouldn’t cause any issues and that Bobby could keep racing. But the owners decided it was best to move him on to a new career, and the vet thinks he has no limitations. X-rays are available to review.  Bobby’s handler said he is very sweet, quiet and sensible, just a very good boy who is good for everything and has no vices. On the day we saw him, Bobby had done nothing other than handwalking for over a week, yet he was cool, calm, and collected, stood quietly for his photos, and jogged politely on a loose lead.  He showed beautiful movement, with loft and rhythm. He has a cute face, kind and intelligent eye, and a long legged build that will surely fill out as he grows up.  Bobby is by Central Banker, a son of Speightstown. Central Banker is siring some horses who are excellent jumpers and succeeding in eventing, in jumpers and hunters. Bobby’s dam is by Shakespeare, a son of Theatrical, with Alydar and Ribot on her dam line. This is a very nice young prospect offered at a price much less than usual for a big young lovely moving gelding with a great brain and quiet temperament.

SUNSHINE GIRL, 2020 15.3h dark bay filly– owner retaind to race

Despite being almost black, this sweet girl shines brightly! Sunshine is reported to be sound and to have no vices.  Her trainer reports that she has beautiful movement on the track, is very athletic, and a strong galloper who feels good about life and her job. She would therefore be best paired with a person experienced with young OTTBs who wants an athletic sport horse prospect.  Her trainer feels that with her athleticism and good movement she would exceed as an eventer, jumper, or a barrel horse. She stood politely while volunteers photographed her, and she soaked up the scratches and attention. While she was a bit excited for the jog video as she has been just walking since her last race, her trainer states she really “strides out” under tack.  Sunshine Girl is by Frac Daddy, a son of Scat Daddy, who has both Johannesburg and Skip Away lines that are desired for their athletic sport horse abilities. She is out of a Thunder Gulch mare, from a sire line also known for jumping ability!

BENCH WALK, 2019 16 h bay colt

This gorgeous hunk has an outstanding sport horse pedigree that should make him very enticing for a sport horse breeding program to cross with warmblood mares.  He is by the great Bernardini, and his dam is by Medaglia D’Oro. His owner/trainer describes him as a “playful clown,”  not a mean bone in his body, but he does have the playful nippiness that many stud colts have.  The trainer demonstrated her obvious affection for Bench Walk when, to show us that he was playful and friendly, she went into his stall and started hugging him and kissing his face and playing with his lips. Bench Walk seemed to enjoy the game. The trainer reports that he is “a pleasure to ride,” well behaved on the track.  She says that he has old set osselets that do not bother him at all, and that he is racing regularly and soundly. He’s had 26 starts with 2 wins and 6 additional placings.  He is a stunning horse when you see him in person, with a shiny coat  and a strong sloping shoulder and powerful looking hind end.  He was a bit on the muscle for his jog, but respectfully listened to his handler. He showed a flowing toe flicking walk and trot. His sire Bernardini, from AP Indy and Quiet American/Fappiano lines, is deservedly very popular as a sire of dressage and eventing horses. There are several sons of Bernardini who are competing in dressage and eventing while also breeding.  Will Bench Mark be the next?  Bench Walk’s dam, Rosseza, is by Medaglia D’Oro who is from the Sadler’s Wells sire line, and this too is a highly sought after sport horse sire line. Rosezza’s dam Blush is a multiple graded stakes producer — so there’s certainly the type of quality in Bench Walk’s female family to warrant a breeding career for him.  Blush is by Menifee out of a Rahy mare. While Bench Walk’s trainer hopes that someone who wants to keep him intact for breeding will get Bench Walk,  we of course remind everyone that lovely studs make even lovelier gelding.

YOUR AWESOME BOSS, 2017 16.1+h bay gelding

We were drawn in by this beautiful gelding’s sweet expression and kind eye, and we got to see another trainer in his shedrow — who adores him — cuddle with him in his stall. She said that Boss is one of her favorite horses, and she is so eager to help him get a perfect new home that she has offered to help pay the entries for the 2024 RRP if that is what you want to aim him for next year.  She, along with the contact person, both attested to how sweet Boss is — they said he especially likes women.  He is reported to be a gentleman on the track that the pony riders like to handle, and he is reported to be nice to ride. He will be best suited for a kind and patient person with experience restarting OTTBs. He apparently “went through the ringer” in a previous barn, and his current trainer has been patiently restoring his trust and has brought his sweet nature and robust shiny good looks back to the fore. He has an old osselet that has been there for over three years, and that he has raced well on. He has well balanced solid bodied conformation. For his jog video, he showed very nice movement, with a light loft to his step. His sire is Street Boss, who is by Street Cry. His dam is by Awesome Again from the popular Deputy Minister sire line.  His second dam is a sister to Cross Traffic, who is a sought after sport horse sire known for horses with great brains and good movement and jumping ability.

WINNING WITHHONOUR, 2010 16.3h bay gelding

This amazing, classy and handsome war horse has indeed won with honor, over and over and over again!  He has an impressive 18 wins, 16 seconds, and 28 thirds in his 107 race career — and he’s still remarkably clean legged and sound enough in mind and body to keep racing if horses his age were still allowed to race at Finger Lakes. Understandably, he is very special to his owner, and she wants to find him a perfect forever home where he will be cherished for the amazing athlete that he is. The trainer described him as very mellow and easy to ride. She says he has automatic lead changes — just shift your weight, raise the hand, and he smoothly changes. The owner was hoping that her daughter would keep Winning Withhonour as a track pony horse so they could keep him in the family, but after restarting him for that hew job (which he was very good at) she realized she had too many pony horses to keep them all.  Winning Withhonour has no limitations for any discipline. His trainer thinks he will be an easy restart due to his great brain, intelligence, and tractability. She thinks he could be a good horse for a kid who works with a trainer.  He has the old school TB classic show or fox hunter look, and he displayed lovely flowing balanced movement as he jogged quietly for his trainer.  We think you could probably take him to a hunter pace or hound jogging right away!  He has good feet and is currently barefoot behind; his trainer recommends that he remain in front shoes. Winning Withhonour is by Lunarpal, who’s by Successful Appeal out of a Quiet American mare. His dam is by Bag, who’s a son of Devil’s Bag (Halo line).

We know there are a lot of fans of the wise old durable war horses out there, and this one is truly special.  Potential new homes will be carefully vetted.

BROADWAY BANKER, 2020 16.1h chestnut gelding

Located at his owner’s farm near Saratoga.

This very flashy young son of Central Banker has let his track people know, after 6 races without hitting the board, that racing is not his preferred game — but that can be your gain for any new sport horse discipline.  The trainer and groom both said that Broadway Banker is very sensible and good to handle with no vices. We visited with Broadway Banker in front of his stall while his trainer went to find his groom to bring him out for us, and he was very friendly and appreciative of the horse cookies we offered.  While he was on the muscle for his jog video, since he had only been walking since his recent race, we could see good push from behind and light movement up front. We see great potential in this young horse for a new sport horse career — let him finish growing up, and give him time to fill out, and he will be stunning!  He has very good lines for a sport horse career. His sire Central Banker is by the great Speightstown (Gone West) out of a Go For Gin mare, and in keeping with those bloodlines Central Banker has quickly become a sought-after sire for sport horse prospects. Broadway Banker’s dam Dancin on Broadway is by Menifee out of a Skip Trial mare.   A few years ago, we placed another of this dam’s offspring, Forever Utopia, who proved to be a great eventer and dressage horse.

WINTER SIREN, 2019 16h liver chestnut filly

Calling all fans of Frost Giant offspring — this lovely filly is sending you the siren song!  Frost Giant offspring are coveted by people who do sport horse disciplines, especially eventing, for their athleticism, great brains, and jumping ability — and Winter Siren is surely going to be the next Frost Giant baby to excel as a sport horse.  Winter Siren was described to us as a horse who will gallop all day, and will most likely eat up the cross-country course.  The contact person, who has been her groom, says she is well behaved and good to handle with no vices. She brushes her in her stall without even tying her up. Winter Siren is clean legged and reported to us as sound.  Last year she was racing very successfully, garnering three wins and two seconds. She then spent the winter turned out in a group on a farm, and since coming back to the track this year she has let her connections know that she no longer enjoys the racing life. This year, her racing record is 11 starts without hitting the board.  In our experience, this shows she is a durable, and a very smart mare, who has decided that she wants a new lifestyle that includes turnout and galloping without the stress of racing.  Winter Siren was very polite and well behaved for her video, showing a balanced and even trot. In addition to being sired by Frost Giant, a son of Giant’s Causeway, her pedigree is also great on her dam side for sport disciplines such as eventing. Her dam is by Theatrical, a champion on turf by Nureyev (Northern Dancer).  And her female family traces in direct line to the dam of the great Cigar — her fourth dam, a Seattle Slew daughter, also produced this immortal racing superstar.

ROZ, 2019 16h dark bay filly

The lovely Roz is beautiful and elegant, and her owner and trainer report that “she is an angel to be around,” and “sound as a brass bell.” They also attest that she is very nice to ride, a favorite of the exercise riders.  We were drawn in by her kind eye and intelligent expression. We chatted with Roz’s owner as he bathed her in the wash stall, and she was certainly well behaved for her bath. Roz has the uphill build and strong shoulder that should translate well for sport horse disciplines — and her pedigree is outstanding as a sport horse prospect.  She is sired by Fed Biz, who is a son of Giant’s Causeway out of a Wild Again mare.  Roz’s dam, Naples Rose, is by Bernardini and out of a Distorted Humor mare.  Roz ended the 2022 racing season with 2 wins in a row, and she has hit the board in half of her 17 starts.  But this year, she just doesn’t seem to have the same interest in running, and she’s yet to crack the top three in five starts. So her owner and trainer realize it is time to let her move on to a new discipline that she enjoys more. She has unlimited potential for any discipline. For her jog video she jogged quietly and politely on a loose lead and displayed nice, even, balanced and smooth looking movement. We can see why exercise riders love to ride her!

This dappled beauty is reported to be sound and vice free.  She is also reported to be the sweetest in the barn.  She was very inquisitive as our volunteers pet her and didn’t seem to mind strangers fawning all over her.  She jogged very politely on a loose lead, with no shank, and demonstrated a rhythmic, toe-pointing trot that is sure to get you noticed in any arena! She’s reported to be perfect to ride! Shane is by Outwork who is by Uncle Mo and Indian Charlie, and out of an Empire Maker mare. She is out of a More Than Ready mare. These bloodlines are very desirable for their amateur friendly brains and jumping and dressage abilities!  Don’t miss out on this one- she’s sure to be someone’s next heart horse!

JUDGE CARR, 2010 16.1H, chestnut gelding

If you’re looking for your very own OTTB that has a few post track miles on him, look no further than Judge Carr! This in your pocket, sweet boy has been a pony horse for his current own for the last two years! This guy’s connections could not say enough good things about his sweet, overly friendly personality and comfortable gaits! She said on the track, both his trot and canter are super smooth but that he can be “lazy” in an arena.  He does great in turn out.  Judge Carr’s connections believe that he is no longer happiest ponying and she would love to see him go be a show pony!  He does have slight rounding on his ankles but is reported to be ponying soundly.  It is reported that his only vice is that he does not prefer to be in his stall while it is being cleaned.  This guy’s trainer really, truly loves this horse and wants him to find “his person” to spoil and love on him. Because of her commitment to this, she is willing to trailer him offsite to a farm in Canandaigua where prospective buyers can actually try him out! It isn’t often to have that opportunity with horses at the track!  Judge Carr is by Mizzen Mast, a highly desireable sport horse stallion, known for their Dressage and Jumping abilities, along with their level headed demeanors.  He is out of an All Gone Mare, who is from the Fappiano and Buckpasser lines.  Don’t miss this rare opportunity to try before you buy with a very sweet, smart guy!

THE GRAND CANAL, 2016 16.2h bay gelding

Are you looking for a beautiful, flashy, big, sport horse prospect? Then The Grand Canal is your horse! With a droolworthy sport horse pedigree,  well balanced conformation, lovely movement, and a quiet temperament, he’s the whole package.  His handler/contact person says she thinks he would make a wonderful show hunter for an amateur working with a trainer. But his pedigree shouts eventing or dressage as well. She reports that he is sound with no vices, quiet and very good to work with.  While he was running well last year, he is showing less interest this year, and the owner does not want to overwinter him to try racing again next year. He joggged very politely for his video, showing a big overstep at the walk and a flowing balanced trot. His sire is Bullet Train, who is a full brother to the great Frankel — both are by Sadler’s Wells out of a Danehill mare.  Bullet Train has quickly become a highly sought after sport horse sire. The Grand Canal’s dam is closely related to Pioneer of the Nile — another coveted sport horse sire.  She is by Empire Maker, who is the sire of Pioneer of the Nile, and her third dam is Pioneer of the Nile’s dam.

WESWORLD, 2017 16.1h chestnut gelding

What a hunk!  Wesworld is a solid bodied boy — and adorable as well with his unique spotted face.  A true barn favorite beloved by many on the backside, his trainer says he’s her big pet.  She has even trained him to bow for treats, which he obligingly showed off for us. She claimed him two years ago, and soon learned she had just acquired a horse with an infected hind leg and white line disease.  She poured her time, love, and funds into getting Wesworld back to full health, with good feet.  She reports that he is completely sound, and we observed clean and tight legs. Since she got him back to the races last summer, he has accumulated lots of third and fourth place finishes last year and this year, but winning seems elusive, so she wants to find a new career for her beloved boy where he can succeed. With his solid uphill build, strong shoulder and hind end, combined with an outstanding sport horse pedigree, we can see Wesworld shining in many disciplines. His trainer — who also gallops him — says he is strong to gallop, so she would recommend an experienced rider. We saw Wesworld three days after he had raced, and he was very laid back for his jog video — a slow western jog was his agenda.  Wesworld is sired by Verrazano, who is from the More Than Ready/Halo sire line and out of a Giant’s Causeway mare.  With this pedigree it’s hardly a surprise that Vaerrazano is sought out as a sport horse sire, known for producing good brained horses.  Wesworld’s s dam is by Hard Spun, a Danzig son who is another popular sport horse sire.

NEWPORT MITTENS, 2020 15.3h bay gelding

When the trainer messaged us about this cute stocky guy, she wrote in all caps: “BARN/BACKSIDE FAVORITE OF ALL TIMES!!!”  She describes him as a loveable ham, who just loves people and attention. We agree — he is adorable, and loved our attention as we took his photos and told him how cute he is.  Racing clearly is not his game — in three starts he has been beaten a total of 80 lengths. With his light and lofty movement with enticing suspension, we can see him excelling in dressage, but he has unlimited potential for any new discipline.  He currently has a skin condition that the vet thinks is a reaction to something in the track environment, possibly in the track surface since he developed the rash after he started working out on the main track in May. It is clearing up and does not bother Mittens.  The trainer reports that while he was on the farm over the winter his coat was fine. Newport Mittens is by Lookin at Lucky, who is by Smart Strike out of a Belong to Me mare.  Lookin at Lucky is deservedly becoming a popular sport horse sire, known for siring horses with good brains and friendly temperaments.  Mittens’ dam is by City Zip.

The best of homes is a must for this beloved barn pet!

FOREVER AMY, 2020 15.2+h bay filly

This cute dappled girl is stocky enough to fit right in with a group of quarter horses.  With her solid and smaller stature, we can see her as an excellent prospect for polo or barrels, but she could do any discipline you want.  She is reported to be good to handle and without vices. Lightly raced, she has one win and two seconds in eight starts. SHe jogged politely, showing good push form behind.  She is sired by Redesdale, a son of Speightstown out of Harpia, a Danzig daughter who is a full sister to the great racehorse and sire Danehill (also sought after in the sport horse world). Her dam, Fast Franny, is by Freud, a deservedly popular sport horse sire who’s a full brother to Giant’s Causeway.  Fast Franny is by D’Accord, a son of Secretariat — it’s rare to see Secretariat this close in a pedigree these days.  Forever Amy’s half brother (both out of Fast Franny) is Napoleon Complex, also smaller and a beautiful mover, who was a highly sought after commodity when we listed him last year, and he is adapting well to a potential show hunter career. Perhaps his sister can go in the same direction.

DON’T EATTHEAPPLE, 2017 15.3h chestnut mare

“Eve” would be the perfect nickname for this girl! Her trainer describes her as “super sweet” and very good to handle. She is also reported as sound, with no issues.  The trainer informed us that Don’t Eatthe Apple does crib, but they haven’t bothered to use a collar because it’s mild. She has 5 wins in 26 starts, with 8 additional top three finishes, showing her athleticism and heart. But this year, she has been slower out of the gate, and since early speed is her forte, she hasn’t been as successful in her races, so it is time to let her find a new career.  She was very relaxed and quiet for her jog video, showing a nice flowing walk and a light and lovely trot with nice hints of suspension.  She is sired by Awesome of Course, a son of Awesome Again from the Deputy Minister line. Her dam is by Hear No Evil, a Carson City son, and is out of a Saint Ballado mare.  Blushing Groom, Affirmed, Norther Dancer, and Halo are some of illustrious sport horse lines in her pedigree.

BRODY’S WAR, 2020 15.2+h bay gelding

This beautiful young gelding is described as “Mr. Personality Plus,” sweet, cuddly, and quiet. Not surprisingly, with those traits he’s “just not a racehorse,” but those are ideal traits for a new career. Still growing, he’s likely to top out at 15.3-16h. His trainer reports that he is sound with no vices.  He showed how quiet he is in his jog video — a slow jog! Lightly raced, he has one win in ten starts, and he is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP. He sold for $57,000 as a yearling, and he has an excellent pedigree for sporting disciplines. His sire, Brody’s Cause, is a son of Giant’s Causeway. His dam, War Kill, is from Danzig and Rahy/Blushing Groom lines.

SCARF, 2019 15.2 -3h+ bay filly

A lovely accessory indeed!  Scarf has striking roaning on her face, so she will certainly stand out from the crowd.  She is solid bodied, with a strong sloping shoulder.  She came to her current trainer at Finger Lakes in late June, after running on the Parx/Monmouth circuit.  Previous trainers ran her regularly almost every two weeks, and while she physically handled it and remains sound and clean legged, her mind is saying “enough with this racing game.”  Her current trainer is listening to her, and knows she will be much happier in a new career. Since she arrived in his care, they have had her scoped and thoroughly checked over by a vet, and she is reported to have nothing wrong with her — other than being done with the racing game.  Her trainer reports that she is a cribber, but they have it completely controlled with a collar.  He thinks that once away from the confinement and stress of the racing life and able to enjoy turn out, the cribbing may alleviate. Scarf is sired by Mosler, who is by War Front out of an Arch mare.  Her dam, Scarfire, is by Friesan Fire, a son of AP Indy, who is out of a Rahy mare. The Danzig, Fappiano, Roberto, and Seeking the Gold lines on her sire’s side, and the AP Idy, Blushing Groom, Cozzene, Caro, and Halo lines on her dam side should make her a very enticing prospect for sporting discipline.

JACKIE B GOOD, 2019 16.1h chestnut filly

Jackie has a fabulous pedigree for sport, and we think that once she fills out she will be quite the beauty with her lovely dishy face.  Her trainer says that Jackie has only been with him for about six  weeks, and she arrived from a farm where the owner had sent her for a break in poor condition — skinny with severely neglected feet.  In the time that Jackie has been in the good care of her current trainer, she has been putting on weight and her feet are getting much better with farrier attention. They have gotten her into good enough fitness and condition to get three timed workouts for her — which makes her fully RRP eligible.  Jackie has come back fine from those workouts, but she is not showing enough speed or racing talent to persist with a racing career, so her trainer would like to find her a new career where she can excel.  He says Jackie is a good horse to handle and ride and work with, but she will need a new home experienced with OTTB care that can continue to put weight on her and give her regular farrier attention. So if you are the sort who thinks you can get a horse off the track and put them out in a field barefoot, you are not the right home for Jackie. She walked and jogged very politely for her video, and despite a brief stumble in a pothole, she showed very nice movement.  Jackie is sired by Khonzan, who is a son of Distorted Hunor out of the champion mare Delta Princess. Her dam, Chocolate Almond, is by Candy Ride out of a Giant’s Causeway mare, from the direct female line of champion Hollywood Wildcat.  If you like Cryptoclearance/Fappiano, Giant’s Causeway. Danzig, AP Indy, Blushing Groom sire lines, then she is the girl for you — these lines are top and bottom in her pedigree.

RICHIE’S B L, 2017 15.3h bay gelding with chrome

Richie wins the “most adorable” contest for this FLF season — and the cutest, and the sweetest and quietest!! That’s a lot of great boxes checked right there, and then add in the fact that he is sound and clean legged, very friendly and a very cute mover.  We think Richie is begging to become a children’s hunter for a doting kid — but we can also see him doing any new discipline you want with him. But wherever he goes, it had better be a home that will give him lots of peppermints, since this sweet guy is reported to adore that treat. His trainer says that she has ridden him and he is very good to ride. Richie is ready to find a new career since he just doesn’t want to run this year — in six starts he has only hit the board once, while in previous years he was a consistent winner and placer.  We photographed Richie 4 days after he had raced, and although he had only hand walked since then, he came out of barn as chill as they come, posed like an angel without moving, and jogged off ever so politely on just a loose rope lead.  He showed a good overstep at the walk, and an even, balanced and flowing trot that suggests he could show quite well in the hunter under saddle classes. Richie is sired by Wicked RIch, who is from the Yes It’s True/Raja Baba sire line — a great old sire line sought out by sport horse people who want durability, soundness, and great brains.  Richie’s dam is by Freud, another very popular sport horse sire. This abolutely adorable gem of a horse si offered at an enticing bargain price, so don’t hesitate to act fast if you are interested in this guy!

STUCK UP, 2017 16.1h bay gelding

Located on owner’s farm in Shortsville NY near Finger Lakes Race Track

Anyone this gorgeous can be excused for being Stuck Up!  But, contrary to this beautiful solid bodied gelding’s name, he has a very friendly and kind personality. We chatted with his groom and his trainer, and both raved about what a quiet, kind, friendly easy to work with horse he is, with no vices.  His trainer reported that he is “98% bombproof… and I won’t say 100% just because horses have their occasional days.” Stuck Up is described as very sound, without any vices, and we observed clean legs.  He has beautiful balanced conformation with a strong sloping shoulder and a big hind end. He showed very good movement for his video, although he did try to drag his trainer over to the grass! He has won over $100,000 in 34 starts, with 6 wins, so he certainly has heart and athletic ability. This year, although he has finished third in 3 out of 5 races, he is telling his owner/breeder that he would prefer a new career.  She loves her homebreds, and has listened to him, so she is ready to find him the perfect new loving home. He has unlimited potential for any new discipline.  He is by Mr. Sidney, who is from Storm Cat and AP Indy lines. His dam, Shush Up, is by Silent Name, who is by the great Sunday Silence.   Many coveted sport horse sire lines appear on his dam side:  Halo, Blushing Groom Danehill, Danzig, Damascus. This beautiful gelding is a great sport horse prospect offered at a very reasonable price, and we think he should be a deservedly popular offering, so call quickly if you are interested.

SEA URCHIN, 2019 16.3h chestnut gelding with chrome

Located on owner’s farm in Shortsville NY near the Finger Lakes Race Track

This big, flashy, beloved homebred son of Will Take Charge is affectionately known to his owner/breeder as “Willy.” He is a half-brother to Sea Captain, who was last autumn’s most coveted FLF listing. The trainers and grooms for both horses say that Willy is even nicer than his exceptional brother… both in temperament, rideability, handling, and general loveability.   Sea Urchin has had only 7 starts, without ever finishing better than 4th, so his owner/breeder has reluctantly concluded that racing is not his aptitude, but she realizes that he has unlimited potential for many new careers. He was recently brought to his owner’s farm and had his shoes pulled. He has quickly settled into the laid back farm life, enjoying his turn out — he was even reluctant to trot for his jog video, and was completely unfazed by trotting barefoot on pavement, with only a rope lead, in between a pasture with weanlings and one with mares all looking on with curiosity.  We talked with people who groomed Willy on the track last year, this year, and on the farm, and all agreed that he is one of the sweetest, kindest, great to handle and work with horses — they all adore him!  Sea Urchin is sound and clean legged and has no vices.  He showed very good movement for his jog video — as we said, barefoot on pavement, just after having his shoes pulled.  With his looks and laid-back attitude and quiet flowing movement he screams “fancy show hunter prospect”  o us… perhaps because we know of some Will Take Charge offspring who are excelling in that discipline. But eventers and dressage riders also love Will Take Charge offspring — so Willy can go in ay new career direction. His sire Will Take Charge is by Unbridled’s Song  and out of the great broodmare Take Charge Lady, who is from Deputy Minister and Fappiano lines.  Sea Urchin’s dam Tapitbythesea is by the great Tapit, from AP Indy lines, and out of a mare from Mt. Livermore (Blushing Groom/Cox’s Ridge) and Unbridled and Roberto lines. These are exceptional sport horse bloodlines.

CANDYROCK, 2015 16.1h chestnut gelding – retained for racing

Candyrock is a classy war horse, sound, clean legged, a lovely mover, with a great brain and very kind temperament.  His trainer kept gushing about what a class act this lovely horse is — and we agree!  Candyrock is a laid back, wise soul, and while we can see him excelling as a show hunter, he has unlimited potential for any new discipline.  Candyrock has run consistently in the higher level allowance races, and has racked up 8 wins and 12 additional top 3 finishes in 55 starts.  This year, he seems to have slowed down a step, so his trainer would like to see him move on to a great new non-racing home rather than dropping him down the claiming ladder. The trainer reports that Candyrock is lovely to handle and work with, and that exercise riders say he is the nicest horse to gallop. Candyrock showed lovely flowing and balanced movement for his jog video. He is by Sidney’s Candy, who is a son of the great Candy Ride from the Fappiano sire line. Candyrock’s dam, Untainted, is by Speightstown (Gone West) out of a Saint Ballado (Halo) mare.  The Fappiano, Gone West, and Halo sire lines are outstanding sport horse lines.

GINNY BABE, 2018 15.3+h bay mare

This homebred daughter of Big Brown out of a Freud mare has the gorgeous lofty movement , uphill build with a strong shoulder and solid bone, and pedigree to excel in eventing or dressage.  Ginny raced only once in 2021, but she has timed workouts this year, so she is fully eligible for the 2024 RRP.  Her owner/trainer/breeder reports that she is completely sound, but raced only that one time for a variety of reasons:  She stepped on a shoe that got yanked off along with some foot in that one race, and she has bad memories of the main racetrack; while she gallops like a dream on the training track, she is reluctant on the main track. Additionally, as someone with just a few horses, her trainer has had difficulty getting regular exercise riders who are available for main track breezes.  And, he is getting out of racing.  For all these reasons, the lovely, athletic, gorgeous moving Ginny Babe is available to be your next star sport horse prospect. The owner/trainer states that she “was the easiest horse he ever broke,” and that Ginny has great stamina and is very smart.  He says that because she is so smart, she will know if a rider is timid and inexperienced, so he thinks she will be best with a confident kind and  experienced rider that Ginny will respect, trust, and can form a true partnership with.  Ginny has clean legs, and her owner/trainer is also a farrier, and he says he completely fixed her foot after the mishap in her one race and that she has no feet issues at all now. Our volunteers loved Ginny as she posed for photos and displayed her well put together athletic physique — but when she walked and jogged off for her video, our jaws really dropped. She has a huge overstep at the walk, and her trot is light, floaty, and shows great engagement from behind.  Ginny is sired by Big Brown, a Danzig grandson who is a very popular sport horse sire.  Her dam, Flirtatious Spring was a durable, hard-knocking successful racehorse, and is sired by Freud. Freud is a full brother to Giant’s Causeway, and may even be a more coveted sport horse sire than his illustrious brother.

BETTY RUBBLE, 2019 15.2-3h chestnut filly with chrome

This very cleverly named daughter of Bustin Stones should appeal not only to Flintstones fans, but also to anyone looking for an energetic, flashy, and sweet filly with unlimited potential for many new careers. Betty’s trainer says she is very quick with a good turn of foot, and they think she would make a great polo or barrel racing horse.  Betty has a feeling good go-go attitude in the track environment, but on the farm she settles right down into a more laid back demeanor.  Her owner told us what a sweetheart she is, reporting how she will lick your face and soak up your attention. Betty is described as sound, and we observed clean tight legs.  She won a race earlier this spring– her third career win — which put her into a tougher level of racing competition where she is not faring as well, so it is time to let her find a new career. Betty showed cute movement for her jog video.  This past winter while rident on the farm, they introduced Betty to ground poles, and she was very willing in trotting and cantering over them, displaying a cute little jump.  This suggests she will quickly take to jumping. She is sired by Bustin Stones, a son of City Zip.  Bustin Stones offspring have proved popular with barrel racers, but have also done will in both show hunters and eventing. Her dam is by Buddha, a one of Unbridled’s Song, and has Seattle Slew on her dam side.

JOSE, 2016, 16.1H Bay Horse

Located at the trainer’s farm in Clifton Springs, NY, not far from the Finger Lakes Racetrack (Near Rochester.)

This hunky and gorgeous bay is an absolute sweetheart in the barn– he’s well-mannered and good to work around, turns out well in a group of geldings, and is overall a solid citizen. If you are looking for a true blank slate to bring along your way for your discipline, then Jose is a great prospect! Jose was broke to saddle and then started race training when he was young and showed a great temperament and aptitude for training. But he experienced bucked shins, and then was recommended for “tie back” surgery due to a partially paralyzed “flap” in order to compete athletically at his highest racing potential. Then, in short succession, the husband of his owner/breeder passed. So his connections decided to stop his training and bring him back to their farm to grow up and turn out, anticipating that when their life got more settled Jose could return to race training. Well, one thing in the human’s life after another, Jose has remained on the farm, never had a racing name registered with the Jockey Club, and has greatly enjoyed being a pampered and loved horse who gets to enjoy turnout and his pasture buddies. But his breeder/owner has to downsize due to her continued health issues. and she also knows that Jose has great potential for a career other than pasture pet. Although he had a partially paralyzed “flap” that might have limited a racing career, this should not limit a sport horse career. As you can see, he has grown into a gorgeous guy, and he is sweet and lovely to handle and work with — not a studdish bone in his body. He will be an even sweeter gelding! He jogged on a loose lead in a pasture with uneven ground, and was perfectly behaved, mellow, and showed very good movement. Jose is unregistered; his dam is Tough City Girl (Good and Tough/Carson City). Some of her offspring listed by FLF in previous years were lovely floaty movers who are enjoying success in sport horse careers. Jose hopes you will give him the chance to learn to do what his siblings are succeeding at!

OHMYGOLLYMSMOLLY, 2013, 16h, Grey Mare

Located at the trainer’s farm in Clifton Springs, NY, not far from the Finger Lakes Racetrack (Near Rochester.)

Hey lovers of beautiful, dappled greys –this lovely mare is one you should definitely check out. She has been a very solid, sound, and durable racehorse for her owner/breeder, with 9 wins, multiple placings, and over $154,000 in earnings in her 49-start racing career. Molly last raced in November 2021, and her owner/trainer/breeder then took her to her farm, hoping to breed her in spring 2022. But human health issues changed those plans, and the owner/trainer/breeder must now downsize, so her beloved Molly is offered as a great prospect for a new career — whether it be as a sport horse, or as a broodmare. Fully let down on her trainer’s farm, Molly is barefoot and turns out well with a small group. But she would love a job! She is reported as sound with no stable vices. Jogging politely with just a lead rope on grassy uneven ground barefoot, Molly nonetheless showed athletic movement with good engagement from behind and a lofty trot step. We can see that movement earning praise in the dressage phase of eventing! Molly is by Cosmonaut, who is a son of Lemon Drop Kid (Kingmambo), and her dam Tough City Girl is by Good and Tough (Carson City). These bloodlines on both sire and dam side are excellent sport horse lines! Her full sister, who was placed through FLF a couple of years ago, is succeeding in a sport horse career, and we think Molly will as well!

LOVER’S LEAP, 2015, 16h+ chestnut gelding – retained for racing.

We admired this very handsome dappled beauty for his lofty athletic movement, great shoulder, and enticing aptitude for upper level sporting disciplines. His owner says that he “is as sound as they come,” and that jockeys who have ridden him in races report that he is “the soundest horse they ride at Finger Lakes.” His trainer reports that Lover’s Leap is a gentle giant and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Lover’s Leap is reported to love turnout at the farm with other horses.  Lover’s Leap has been a successful racehorse, with  59 starts, 8 wins, 18 additional top three finishes and over $162,000 in earnings. But he has been less successful on the track this year, so his owner wants to move him on to a new career where we think that Lover’s Leap’s athleticism and movement will make him a star. We think he has top level potential in eventing, or the H/J ring.  Lover’s Leap is by Bridgetown, who is a son of the great sire Speightstown, a son of Gone West. His dam is from the Kris S./Roberto sire line. This gorgeous, sound, clean legged, and good moving young gelding is an excellent upper level prospect.

Storm Alfeet, 2015, 16.1h,Chestnut gelding

Hubba Hubba Hubba, these pictures don’t do this boy justice. This well built boy came out and impressed us with his lovely presence and good nature. Even when other horses were jumping around on the walkers he stayed calm and cool. We were told that he has no vices and is so easy going that his trainer’s kids are begging her to let them take him home for themselves.  The trainer says he is not strong under saddle and that he craves attention. No known vices or injuries.

Storm has raced at many larger tracks in New York at some point in his career- Aqueduct, Belmont, and Monmouth. With 39 starts and a 2-4-3 record, his trainer is ready to retire him onto a new career. He has a lovely uphill build and a floating flat kneed trot that made us take a second look. We think he will excel in a sporting discipline! He is thickly built and well put together with a broad chest and strong hind quarters. Storm Alfeet is by Afleet Alex out of Ommadon’s Storm. He will be a fabulous prospect for next years RRP!!

DEAN VERDILE, 2012, 16.3h, dk. bay gelding

War Horse Lover Alert! This handsome, solid, and muscular boy impressed our volunteers. We were wowed by his beautifully arched neck and a classically masculine well-shaped face that you might expect to find on a handsome, mature stallion. In person, he gave the illusion of being an even larger horse than his estimated height of 16.3. The volunteers felt that he exuded great presence.

He was well mannered- quiet, polite, and expressive during his photo shoot. We were told that he is good in his stall with no vices being reported. He’s even described as an “easy keeper”. Most horses with his durability at the track often have good brains that help them take everything in stride. We suspect that this is true for him.

Dean is a well-travelled boy having raced at many larger tracks in New York at some point in his career- Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga. His race record is impressive- lifetime earnings of $239,412 from 70 starts with a 12-7-9 record. He has some ankle rounding but we’re told that he is sound and it doesn’t bother him. He does have a sway back but other than a little additional care regarding saddle fit, this should not prove a significant issue for his second career. His durability has been more than demonstrated by his impressive and consistent record. All of the volunteers can attest that several sway back horses we’ve known over the years have been great horses- including several excellent jumpers. Dean sold for $42K at auction as a yearling, we suspect that his athletic potential and functional structure were clearly recognized. And certainly, careful and correct work to develop his topline will help fill out his appearance, only making him even more handsome.

He jogged quietly and politely for his handler. We appreciated his relaxed, swinging walk, and his springy jog where we were excited to see him reach and stretch his neck down.

His current connections say that they have owned him for going on 5 years, where he has been a good earner for them. But now, at the age of 12, it is time for him to transition to a new career. His owner / trainer compared him favorably to ‘Sandy’ in terms of class and athleticism (‘Sandy’ being South Beach Sandy, another great warhorse who came from this barn, who placed 7th and 11th respectively in the Field Hunter and Show Hunter standings at the 2019 RRP Makeover). We’d say that’s a pretty good endorsement!

Dean Verdile is by Yes It’s True, who is from the Raja Baba sire line — a great line that is hard to find — and he is out of an Unbridled Jet mare.

BOO BA LA,  2019 16.1+ bay filly

Calling all Frost Giant fans! This beautiful, dappled, leggy daughter of the late sire coveted by eventers is from his penultimate crop and thus is one of the last few of Frost Giant’s offspring that will be available. So if you have been looking for a Frost Giant mare for sport horse breeding or for enjoying their gutsy sport horse aptitude, Boo Ba La is your ooh-la-la!  Boo Ba Lah has an uphill build and a deep heart girth, ideal conformation traits for sporting endeavors. We saw her three days after her last race, and her trainer reports that she came out of that race “a little ouchy” on an ankle, due to what they think might be an osselet. When her current trainer got her last year, they fully x-rayed her ankles and the x-rays were clean. She has been racing well — indeed, she just missed winning in her recent race.  But the trainer thinks she would benefit from a career a bit less strenuous than racing. With the usual letdown period form the track,  they think she ought to have no limitations for a new career in any discipline at the lower levels (which is what most of us do anyway, let’s be honest!). Boo Ba La is described as a “happy” horse, who will prefer a rider who understands her happy and forward attitude and lets her do her thing.  The trainer reports that she was turned out at their farm last winter, and was good in turn out and enjoyed farm life.  Boo Ba La has 12 starts, with 2 wins, and three additional top three finishes. She an ideal sport horse pedigree. Her sire is Frost Giant, a son of Giant’s Causeway, and a well-deserved favorite sire amongst eventers.  Her dam, Bobity Boo, is by Pico Central, a son of Spend a Buck. Her Buckpasser/Roberto, Hoist the Flag/Ribot bloodlines are the gold standard for durable Tb sport horse lines.

PASCAL, 2017 16.3h bay gelding

This big boned gorgeous guy last raced in November 2022, and the person who worked for his trainer and also as a track pony rider, and adored Pascal, acquired him to try to make him her next pony horse.  As it turned out, Pascal did not love the job of being a track pony horse, so she is reluctantly offering him for a new non-racing career. As she says, “I love him, but I can’t keep them all.”  She reports that Pascal is sound, a great horse to ride, very comfortable and sensible.  And he loves treats and attention! He was on the muscle for his jog video, and she explained that she only has time to get him out and briefly ride him approximately once a week, and he had not done much for the last several days before she showed him to us. If you are looking for big, solid bodied, flashy with chrome, and a great sport horse pedigree, then Pascal is your guy. Pascal is by Bodemeister, a son of Empire Maker from the Unbridled sire line, who has quickly become coveted for producing good sport horses.  Bodemeister is known for big offspring who have inherited his chrome and who have good brains and eventing ability. Sounds like Pascal is all of that! Pascal is out of a mare by Brahms, a son of Danzig, and her damsire is Lord of War, another sire known for stamina, soundness and sport horse aptitude.  Big flashy geldings like Pascal are what everyone is looking for, and we expect him to be very popular, so if you are interested we advise quickly contacting Adrianne, the designated contact person.

Four Quartz, 2020, 16.1h,  Dark bay filly

This lovely girl came up from Aqueduct this year and is just not showing much racing promise.  With only 6 starts she should have little wear and tear and her connections report she does not have any known injuries.   They do report she came from Aqueduct underweight and they have been working to plump her up a bit more. They report she is steadily gaining weight, but will need a home who can continue this process. Four Quartz is reported to be somewhat of a shy girl who really bonds with her “person”. At only 3 years old, she still has some growing to do. We think she would be an excellent prospect for some turnout and “chill” time at a farm while she finishes growing before being brought back into training. She was extremely quiet and well behaved during her photo shoot.   She has a lovely uphill build and with some more groceries and muscle she looks to be a stunner!

She looks to have nice solid feet, and has a lovely overstep at the walk.  No known vices. Our volunteers loved her beautiful face and her kind eye. Four Quartz is by Big Brown out of a Rock Hard Ten mare.

OLIVER’S FORTUNE, 16.3+h 2018 dark bay gelding

Tall, dark and handsome Oliver puts the “ooh” in “ooh la la”! Oliver has the lanky look of a classic old-time thoroughbred. Oliver was quiet and respectful of his handler as she stood him up for his pictures and was very sweet and friendly. He’s described as an in-your-pocket type of guy and, though he isn’t naughty or pushy, he would be best suited with a confident rider. His handler reports that he is sound and his legs were clean and tight this morning. He last raced on 6/26 and showed a nice loft and engagement from behind in his jog video. Oliver has compiled a decent record in his 34 lifetime starts with two wins and seven more in the money finishes. But he bled in his last start, and his connections don’t want to [push him anymore. This has never been an issue for Oliver in workouts and galloping. Race bleeding (EIPH) is almost never an issue — even at upper levels of eventing –once a horse is off the confined and dusty track environment and gets turn out. Oliver brings to the table an enticing sport horse pedigree with Laoban as his sire. Laoban is a son of Uncle Mo out of a Speightstown (Gone West) mare. Uncle Mo and his sons are known as exemplary sport horse sires whose offspring move well, jump well and are brave with great brains. Oliver’s dam is by Johannesburg (Hennessy), a notable sport horse line.

Bijemini Slew, 2017, 17h, bay gelding

By golly, this handsome boy is just as keen as they come. He is big and beautiful and his connections report that he is fabulous to work around with no stall vices. It’s reported he is another “gentle giant” with not a mean bone in his body. He has been turned out on the farm with others and is reportedly well mannered in group turnout. His trainer reports that he is clean legged and has not had any injuries, but he’s just not making the movement on the racetrack anymore and they’re ready to let him find his next career. Bijemini has 35 career starts, with 3 this year, making him an excellent candidate for some downtime this fall and a fresh start for the RRP next year! We could see him making a great all around horse for someone looking for size, athleticism, and a “can do” attitude. Bijemini is by Take Charge Indy, out of a Zanjero mare.

BELLAGIO, 2018 17+h bay gelding

Hello gorgeous! This dappled hunk has it all — flashy chrome, size, good movement, and an  ideal sport horse pedigree. He comes from top connections who always have lovely horses well represented. His trainer says that Bellagio is ready to find a new career because this year he just isn’t showing the same level of interest in racing that he has in the past.  She describes him as a fun horse with a “happy” attitude, no vices, an easy keeper, and great to work with in his stall.  She reports that he is a feeling good horse to ride, and that combined with his size suggests he is best suited for an experienced rider with serious sporting ambitions.  Bellagio has an old small osselet on his left ankle, but it has not caused him any problems, and does not limit a new career at all. He displayed lovely flowing ground covering movement for his jog video. has won over $75,000 in 22 starts, with two wins and several top finishes.  He is sired by Union Rags, who is coveted as a sport horse sire — known for siring big beautiful good movers just like Bellagio. Union Rags is by DIxie Union out of a Gone West mare.  Bellagio’s dam, Elarose, is by Storm Cat and is out of Take Charge Lady, one of the best racemares and broodmares of recent history.  Take Charge Lady is dam of Will Take Charge, who is also coveted as a sport horse sire. BIg, young, gorgeous, well bred geldings with unlimigted sport horse potential don’t come along everyday, so if this is what you have been looking for we suggest you act fact on Bellagio.

JERUSALEM GATES, 2016 16.2h bay gelding

For everyone who is looking for a big, quiet gelding with a great temperament and an outstanding sport horse pedigree with unlimited potential for any sporting discipline, then check out this handsome son of Point of Entry — who is a champion son of the great Dynaformer — out of a mare by Unbridled’s Song. Yep, you can’t beat this pedigree for a sport horse! These bloodlines rock in the eventing world. Jerusalem Gates sold for $210,000 as a yearling, so the quality and conformation and pedigree are obviously there.  He is lightly raced, with only 15 starts — and 9 top three finishes.  His trainer says he is “100% sound,” but since a race about a year and a half ago when he got bumped hard by another horse at the start, he has shown a reluctance to break quickly from the starting gate. After several recent races in which he hesitated at the start, he was put on the “starter’s list,” meaning he had to get cleared in a morning workout breaking from the gate and then exceeding a certain time, before he could race again. Well, long story short,  he hasn’t been able to meet that standard, so it is time to move him on to a new career which does not involve a racing starting gate. His handler and his trainer described him as a very chill gentleman with a levelheaded brain.  His trainer reported that he gallops in a D-snaffle, and that he has recently been used to pony 2yos newly arrived at the track and has been unflappable in that job. He has good bone, a strong shoulder, a kind eye, ad clean legs.  He hasn’t done anything other than walk the shedrow or on the walking machine for three weeks, so he got a bit up for his jog video, but was very respectful of his handler. We could see moments of very nice movement with good engagement from behind and a good reach from the shoulders. If he moves like this on uneven pavement in obvious need of farrier attention with his overgrown front feet and barefoot behind, then imagine what he will be when properly shod, remuscled and with a top line.  Jerusalem Gates is sired by Point of Entry, who is by Dynaformer out of a Seeking the Gold mare.  His dam, who was a $400,000 yearling,  is by Unbridled’s Song out of a Deputy Minister mare. The sire lines in this horse’s pedigree are the dream list of sport horse sirees!

DRAW OFF, 2019 16.1+h bay filly

If you are looking for a horse who is beautiful, athletic, a lovely mover, and with great sport horse pedigree, then this very pretty filly is for you! She had our group of new and experienced volunteers all exclaiming over how shiny and well put together she is, and we got really excited when we saw her jog off, showing off very fancy light movement with good engagement from behind.  Her trainer reports that she is very sound, and last year was consistently winning or hitting the board in allowance or higher level claiming races. But after enjoying the leisurely lifestyle of winter turn out on their farm, this season she is showing less interest in racing, preferring the view from the rear of the field instead of the front. Since Draw Off has done so well for them, the trainer realizes that she owes him nothing and he owes her the best chance at a great new life and career. We were told that she is not marish but can initially make “mare faces” in her stall before showing her friendly side.  She is reported to be more of the “go go” type on the track, but very kind and settled on the farm.  Draw Off has unlimited sport horse potential for many disciplines, and would be best for an experienced rider. because of her youth and athleticism.  She is by Gormley, who is a young son of the great Malibu Moon — a coveted sport horse sire. Her dam i by the great Distorted Humor out of a Langfuhr (Danzig) mare.  She has two crosses of Danzig, and other illustrious names in her pedigree include AP Indy, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Hoist the Flag, and Kingmambo.

YAH HUH, 2017 16.1+h bay gelding

This beautiful, solid bodied son of Tapiture (by Tapit) is described by his trainer as a “friendly puppy dog with a wonderful personality, but who just doesn’t want to run anymore.” She says he is very sound, athletic, and could go in any direction for a new career. She reports that he is great to gallop and train, and with his good brain and demeanor she would love to make him into a track pony horse if she had the time. But she does not, so that is your gain, since he has so much potential for just about any new career.  Yay Huh has been turned out over the winter at his trainer’s farm, and she says he has gone into mixed groups, with mares and yearlings, and is good with anything and excellent to handle on the farm.  Because he had not done anything but go on the walking machine for a couple of weeks, he was a bit tense for his jog video, but he was respectful of his handler and showed a good push from behind. Yah Huh has 26 starts, with 2 wins and 6 additional top three finishes.  He is sired by Tapiture, who is a son of the great Tapit (Pulpit/AP Indy). His dam is by Seattle Slew out of a Canadian champion daughter of Secretariat.

LOUELLA DE VIL, 2020 15.2h dark bay filly — to FLTAP

This very flashy and sweet filly impressed us with her solid bodied balanced and beautiful build, shiny dapples, and chrome as she quietly posed for her photos, soaking up the attention.  Louella is unraced and has only one timed published workout on her resume — but that one work makes her 2024 RRP eligible. Louella has uncoordinated movement in her hindquarters, and her trainer realizes that she is just not racehorse material.  Her trainer told us that they checked her for EPM — she was negative — and had vet evaluations that did not turn up anything.  While she may be helped by finishing growing, or modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic and massage, her handler agrees that, at the present time, she is not a candidate for a sporting career. But for someone who is looking for a trail riding partner or low-level riding, the beautiful and sweet Louella would put some lovely bling in your barn.  Louella is reported to be a very sweet and good girl to handle, happy and eager to please, and with no vices. With her smaller stature, flashy good looks, and lovely conformation and excellent sport horse pedigree, we think that Louella could also make an excellent broodmare prospect for crossing with Welsh pony stallions — the TB/Welsh cross is highly sought after in the show ring, both for pony hunters and pony jumpers. Louella is by Sky Kingdom, a son of Empire Maker from the Unbridled/Fappiano sire line and out of a Kingmambo mare.  Louella’s dam is by Don’t Get Mad, an AP Indy grandson, out of a mare by Mt. Livermore from Blushing Groom, Gone West, and Secretariat lines.  Halo and In Reality are other sought after sport horse sires in her pedigree.

WOWSPELLEDBACKWARDS, 2019 15.3h chestnut filly

Whichever way you spell it, a wow is a wow — and this total sweetheart may not be much of a racehorse, but she is a wow mover with a great quiet temperament who can excel in the show hunter ring. We first listed Wow when she was an unraced two-year old, and her trainer at that time realized she was showing no racing aptitude but had excellent show horse potential (that trainer had a H/J background). But another track trainer bought her, hoping that he could make her into a racehorse, but after 17 starts between him and her current trainer with but a single placing to her name, the astute prediction of her original trainer has proven true — while Wow is just not racehorse material, she has unlimited potential for a show career. Wow has all the attributes that people are looking for – she is very sweet, quiet, levelheaded with an unflappable temperament, sound, and with nicely balanced conformation.  Our write up from two years ago, based on an extensive interview with her then trainer (the one with a H/J background) reported that Wow has a bombproof sensibility, wise beyond her years, one of the most pleasant demeanors of any horse that big and active track barn had ever had, and nice to ride and train — a horse “who always makes the right choices.”  The current contact person for Wow, who handles her and helps her current trainer (who speaks limited English) reports that Wow is not happy in the confined track environment where she does not get turnout, and she stall walks. But with her previous trainer, who kept her at his farm and shipped in to train and race, where Wow got to enjoy turnout, she never stall walked or showed any vices — and she kept much better weight. Based on this information we think that once out of the track environment, able to once again enjoy turnout, Wow will quickly put on weight and fill out and will look and ride bigger than her 15.3 stature. Indeed, when we listed her two years ago, she was plump with a good topline and looked much bigger.  Wow was happy to post for us and enjoyed the attention, and she politely jogged for her video, showing off a lovely flowing trot and a big overstep at the walk. Her movement had all of us imagining her in the hunter ring, she would make an awesome children’s hunter — but she has no imitations for any new career.  Wow is sired by Shimmering Forest, who is from the Unbridled’s Song sire line — and who has offspring who are showing great jumping aptitude in eventing and in H/J arenas.  Her dam is by Fusaichi Pegasus.

JUNCTION POOL, 2020, 16h+, Chestnut Gelding

Located at the Finger Lakes Race Track in Farmington, NY (near Rochester, NY). Our volunteers fell in love with this adorable face! Junction Pool was cool as a cucumber for his photo shoot and jog video. His trainer reports he’s a friendly guy and is well liked in the barn, but he is showing no promise as a race horse. He is very lightly raced with only 3 starts. He did not hit the board in any of those races and earned a measly $630. Surely he will be much more successful in a different career! His trainer reports he is totally sound and clean legged. He’s also reported to have no stall vices. Over the winter, Junction Pool turned out well with other horses. We think Junction will make a great project horse! He showed nice movement for his jog video with good reach at his walk and hunter-y movement at the jog. Junction Pool will be eligible for RRP. He is by Camelot Kitten out of a Precise End mare. We think this one will get snapped up quickly, so please call quickly if he checks all your boxes!
